  We just got our AOS interview letter - It is set for June 8th!!

Rhonda - Hope you have a good night at work, sorry you're stuck on the night shift

Congrats on the AOS interview  It's such a good feeling.

Thanks for the well wishes  It's really hard with Tony working days and me working nights :(

Hello everyone :star:
It was awfully quiet in here all weekend. Where has everyone been? Still no news from Eric I see :( I hope no news is good news in their case.

I'm here at work til 11 pm and hopefully some of you will pop in to say hey.

Hey, who is keeping the baby making list - we have decided that we are going to go for it!!! :o  As of today, I am one day late - but that is nothing. So keep me in your prayers.

Elizabeth,
It's good to see you back on here :luv: Congrats on Henry getting a job. Don't let anyone's opinion faze you. A job is a job - who cares what or where it is.

Good luck with the baby making :D I'm not sure where that list went. I'll have to make up a new one in my spare time

Hey Joanna,
Are you at work tonight? It is so quiet in here

What do you think??? of course I am at work till 6:30am

I don't know what's worse - afternoon shift or midnight shift? All I know is I haven't seen Tony (at least not awake!) since Sunday :crying: I'll be here again tomorrow. I'll send you an e-mail!

Rhonda, I am here at work also...What time do you get off?

I've been working from 2:00pm til 10:30pm for the most part. That's just 8 hours. If I wanted to I could stay til 2:30am which would be 12 hours, but I just don't want to be here  I'm just waiting for them to tell me I have to start staying later.

Has anyone heard from Eric on the interview? :clock:

I was wondering the same thing! I wonder how it went?

I miss you guys :( Is anyone on here at night? I hate afternoon shift!

Eric - Good luck with the Interview  We can't wait to see how things go for you. Your's is a "unique" case to say the least

Doodle - Congrats on the Visitor Visa for your step-daughter. That's exciting that she can visit in the summer.

Rita - Where you been girl? We haven't seen you in ages :crying:

How's everyone else doing? I catch up on everything every night at work but I feel so left out being on the "off" shift.

Squitto - I'm so sorry you're having so many problems with AOS stuff. That sucks :( Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

I am miserable here on afternoon shift :crying: I never get to see Tony or any of my friends and family. When I'm at home everyone else is at work and vice versa. Now they tell me I have to work Saturday too  They want me to work Sunday too and I said NO WAY! I need at least one day off out of this Hell hole. I really need to find another job :help:

I remember those days :P That's the best part of finally getting approved - you no longer have to deal with the Jamaican Embassy  I don't understand why normal, simple things are SO difficult for them to handle. How hard is it to pick up the phone, look up the name, and tell you the interview date?!!! Only in Jamaica.

Don't worry, it dies down quick once both of you start working full time jobs <_< Especially if you're on separate shifts :crying:
True about the separate shifts. I don't know how you deal with it. I tried it for two months and quit. Has he ever considered working the same shift as you?
With the type of work Tony does (landscaping, roofing, siding, etc.) it can't be done on 2nd shift. It has to be done during the day while it's light outside. And I have no say at my job as to what shift they put me on. I am at their mercy as long as I want to keep my job  I can't afford to quit - I make too much money, the benefits are good, and I've been here almost 5 years

Hello ladies :luv:
Just checking in from the afternoon shift. Kinda quiet in here today. Does anyone know where Jamie has been? I hope she didn't hurt herself doing the Dutty Wine

I'm taking Friday off as a vacation day so I'll have a 3 day weekend  My sisters birthday is coming up so we'll have a little get together Saturday evening to celebrate. Then I think we have a BBQ at Jackie & Craigs (the other U.S./Jamaican couple we're friends with) on Sunday. What's everyone else doing this weekend?

Good morning (F)

Tomorrow is Julie & Michael (Sbys) AOS interview. Please everyone, send them your best wishes for a speedy and easy interview. :dancing:

Good luck Julie and Michael  You both will be in my prayers. I mean it's not like they can deny you, you're walking up in their with your big belly

Good morning everyone ;)

 Yes, good luck Julie & Michael. The baby will just add to the evidence of ongoing relationship :luv: Jackie was pregnant when her and Craig went for their interview. It was a breeze for them. She wasn't too far along at the time, but she purposely wore a maternity shirt that really emphasized her growing belly

Perhaps, its becuz its something that he FEELS like he SHOULD be the man about, and just doesnt know how to deal with things in this country like he would back home, and it makes him feel helpless and emasculated. Yea, that must be it....

Seriously, this is very true  They're not used to feeling "helpless" and not knowing where everything is, how to get there, what to do, etc.. I know it was really hard for Tony having to depend on me for everything when he first got here. We got him a bicycle and that seemed to help some. At least he could go up to the store or whatever without having to ask me to drive him there  Try to be patient and understand where he's coming from. I know this is much easier said than done. Things will get better when he can start working. That's another huge blow to a man's self esteem - to feel like they can't contribute.

Oh I do that every week - at least once. I slam a door or a heavy book, cry and say "YOU DON'T LOVE ME! THIS IS OFF!!" Then we make up. And when I think he is running his fingers thru my hair, he is actually looking for horns!!

Glad I'm not the only one

Trust me, you are NOT the only one  Me and Tony are the same way. It's like a big, long roller coaster ride - lot's of ups and downs. As long as the ups outweigh the downs, we'll all be fine :P

My horns stick straight out of my head -- no further looking needed

Just caught up on everything. Wow! I used to get perms when I was younger to give my hair some curl - it's naturally very straight.

As for reggae music, I like so many different artists: Bob Marley, Sanchez, Elephant Man, Sean Paul, Beanie Man, ..... I'll have to ask Tony who his favorite is. I don't don't if he has just ONE favorite

BabyJules - congrats on the new baby boy  Glad you stopped in to say hello!

:help:
I am going to research this on the internet, but I still would like to see if you ladies have any advice.
After being abstinent (Christian & Single) for so long, I have no idea of the newest trends in birth control. I dont want to get pregnant right away even though Rohan doesnt believe in birthcontrol. sooo. I am looking for method of birth control with no hormones in them (like the pill) and not so noticable to the guy. Maybe something I could do before sex. I only got 2 weeks to go so I am bout to do some major research...any suggestions would be appreciated

Well, there are lots of options out there, but you are REALLY limiting yourself if you don't want anything involving hormones. That rules out the Pill (once a day), the Patch (once a week), the Nuvaring (once a month), and the Depo-Provera shot (every 3 months I think). You're left with the Sponge which I've heard is messy and doesn't prevent pregnancy all that well, the diaphragm which is similar to the sponge, or an IUD (Intra Uterine Device) but that has to be inserted by a doctor and I don't know if insurance covers it and or what side effects it causes. And obviously you can't use condoms if you don't want him knowing you're trying NOT to get pregnant  Hmmm..... Anyone else have any insight on this or something I'm forgetting about???
rhondapayterFemaleJamaica2006-05-31 19:44:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies, at home and a farrin'

Let's see.....notes to self.....
Sit on your butt as much as possible -- NO EXERCISE AT ALL!!
No fruits, veggies or beans - or for that matter, anything that is good for me
Drink lots of Diet Coke, Vodka and don't forget the chocolate. Throw in some Red Bull just for kicks
Learning when I ovulate -- just to make sure I double the above during "that time"
Clean up with bleach, ammonia AND Pine-Sol

....there, now I feel so much better. Thanks Elizabeth!!

Joanna - glad to hear you're doing alright. Don't forget to check in with us from time to time

Happy Birthday to Mr. Squitto

Kim what name are you going to give your new fish? Have you gals ever discussed why they have such werid nicknames for people in JA? I think some off them are so silly. I go for Ray Rey for the name  :P

That's a good topic - what are your man's nicknames in Jamaica?? :P Tony (aka: Anthony) has at least 3 that I can think of: Dread, Matterhorn, and Franklin  Don't ask me how they came up with them. The only one I understand is Dread because he was very bad when he was a kid and always getting in trouble. I guess it's short for dreadful? His parents and certain family members call him Franklin. How the heck did they get that out of the name Anthony? :o

Hello everyone :star:
I'm just enjoying my first day off of this wonderful 3 day weekend. I washed my car today - it's beautiful weather here :D Then got my nails and pedicure done :P Unfortantely Tony is working today and he's STILL at work (it's almost 8:30pm here) :crying: I haven't even seen him yet today :(

Jill - If I were you, I wouldn't even give him the satisfaction of talking to you after what he did to you. If that other girl wants to keep on seeing him, she is just being naive, but you are stronger than that. I wouldn't even answer my phone if he called.

Shemanya - have a great trip with your daughter - I know you guys will have fun :luv:

Kelly - good luck with the interview coming up!

Everyone else, have a great weekend. (F)

Questions for this morning... Who's the better cook between you? What's their favorite "American" dish? What Jamaican dish is their speciality?

Tony is the better cook  I'm still learning! As for American type food, he likes burgers and steaks and Italian food. As for Jamaican food, anything Tony cooks is excellant  I love curry chicken and jerk chicken and his soup the best

I only have 1052 posts :crying: I'll never get 2 (L) I can't chat as much now that I'm on afternoon shift.

I finally just got caught up on all the reading - wow! After reading all your posts about how to cook rice n peas I had to call Tony and ask him if he stirred with a fork or a spoon. I never really watched that closely. Of course, he said a fork - or else you ruin the rice

Nannygirl - so sorry to hear about the delay :( Hopefully it won't take too long. Hang in there. It's like they keep making it harder and harder to get your loved ones here. And they wonder why there are so many Illegal Immigrants here?

I have to work tomorrow (Friday) but I'm off Sat, Sun, and Monday :P Thank goodness - I've worked every Saturday for months now with the exception of Easter weekend. I need a break. Make sure you ladies chat tomorrow so I'll have something to read when I get to work ;)

Question:

Does your man really know how to swim or does he just play inna di wata?

We went snorkeling and the water was about 15 feet deep, if not more. I cannot swim to save my life. He claimed he could. We get out of the water and guess who had on lifevest, and wouldn't let go of the side of the boat?

Tony knows how to swim really well. I'm a fairly decent swimmer, but he is awesome  He was a certified lifeguard when he lived in Jamaica and worked on the catamaran. He can stay under water so long I'm always pulling him up because I'm thinking he's drowning :(

Whoa Whoa Whoa! You all are reading my mind! Just last night I was thinking about how when I was here alone I was the tv dinner queen...Lean cuisines all the way! Now we have to have "cook food"...which I attribute to my recent weight gain. Also I always ate out for lunch or never ate and now I have to be making him a lunch for work...and sandwiches are snacks...not "real" food...What?!?! I swear our food bill has quadrupled since he got here :o

A maid :) such a dream of mine

Yes, I have to agree with you ladies  Ever since Tony got here, I've been eating more  and I had to learn how to cook since he started working and has no time  Also, have to clean the house more often - it's not just me that has to look at the dust bunnies now! Of course, if I leave it long enough, Tony goes on a cleaning frenzy and cleans from one end of the house to the other because he can't stand it anymore  :innocent:

Your age? Your SO's age? 27/29

Where are you from? Born and raised in Lincoln Park & Allen Park, MI (near Detroit) - still live in Allen Park

What part of JA is your SO from? Originally from Port Maria, St. Mary but lived in Ochi for the last 10 years

What's your Connection to JA - How/Where/When did you meet? We met on the catamaran that Tony worked on while I was in Jamaica on a "singles cruise"!

What's your favorite things about the Yardie thread?

(F) B) Hi, I 'm one of the lukers. I absorb all the great information for my K-3 process. Enjoy all the comic relief (especially ray, ray ray). Commiserate with all the frustrations, angst and other problems. I am quite a bit older than most of you. Way past baby making age. Wish you all happiness and generally just try to endure this journey. (L)

I know many of you have done the whole resort thing, so I'm interested in some reviews.

I'm interested in going to Negril (since Squito's never been and I've only been there once when I was like 11). Can any of you recommend any good hotels/resorts in Negril??

Me and Tony usually stay in Ochi, but we stayed in Negril one time for 2 weeks. I loved it! 7 Mile Beach is just awesome. There are lots of hotels and resorts. We stayed at Fun Holiday for the first week and Bourbon Beach the second week. Both very cheap but still decent. If you go to an All-Inclusive Resort, I don't know if you guys will like the food. The couple that I have been to serve very "Americanized" food. No Jamiacan fare to be found. You may be better off staying at a nice hotel and then going out for your meals.
