hey i am up...still worring about getting all the papers right...i will be so happy when it is over...hahaha....

It's NEVER over   :dead: After the interview, there's AOS, AP, and EAD. Then there's the AOS interview, then 2 years later, lifting the "conditions" of the permanent residency, etc... Am I scaring you yet?

Don't mind me - I'm getting slap happy from being bored out of my mind at work at midnight on a Saturday night    :P  :hehe: :D

I'm still here at work trying to stay awake -_- The hours are just dragging by :clock: I have 45 min. to go now :D but it feels like I've been here for 12 hours - not just 8!

Is anybody still up? What's everyone doing this weekend?

Yeah Rhonda the money tree was great, it had $50.00 on it...
I picked out the cake and it came from Publix grocery store (do you have Publix where you are?) they are going to do my wedding cake. It was so cute!!! they do the bear cakes for birthdays, christmas, weddings and other holidays and special occasions.

No, we don't have a Publix by us. I've never heard of it before  What kind of wedding cake did you decide on?

I have asked Adrian about becoming a US citizen and he said that he did not want to become a US citizen...it is a few years before they can even apply...There is a Jamiacan guy that I work with, he has been in the US for several years and just got his citizenship a couple years ago....the only con that I have heard of is that you cannot vote unless you are a citizen, and if they decide to get rid of "every" immigrant then they can send you back, but I personally dont see that ever happening.
My sister in law is german and she will never become a US citizen, she will loose some German benifits if she does...my brothers childern have dual citizen ship.

So, if me and Tony have children, can they get dual citizenship? I have no idea how these things work. I think the pros of US citizenship include: being able to vote, being able to get government jobs - or jobs that require you to be a citizen (Army, Navy, etc. also), and getting through Customs quicker and w/ less hassle than GC holders. Am I missing anything?

I have a topic starter for you guys. Is your husband/fiance going to apply to become a U.S. citizen eventually? What are the pros and cons of doing so? Tony doesn't want to give up his Jamaican citizenship, but I think I read somewhere that it's really difficult to get dual citizenship.

Also, did anyone know that to become a US citizen, you have to pass a big test about the US government, the Constitution, and US history? :o I didn't know this until the other day. I went on USCIS website and they have practice tests you can take on-line. I only got 41 right out of 60 questions :o Some of them are hard!! And I grew up here and I should know this stuff. It seems like it's very hard to get citizenship. They also have to take a test to see whether they can read, write, speak, and understand English. Tony might have some trouble here too with the reading and writing portions.

I'm wondering what everyone else thinks about all this.

I'm here at work  Not happy about it at all. I haven't seen my baby all week :crying: Tomorrow is gonna be my only day off and the only day I get to see Tony.

I hope some of you will be checking in here tonight. It's going to be a long, boring evening :hehe:

I'm going to catch up now :reading: although it looks like it's been pretty quiet in here today.

How many of your men are REALLY fed up with all the paperwork that is required in America? I know we are a paperwork society, and for some reason it just really gets to Lake, I mean, like a 6 page form to apply for each job, then another 10 forms when you GET a job, and immigration requires a darned book, etc, etc. You all know what I mean.

Actually I fill out most of the paperwork for Tony  I am so ####### anyways - if you want something done right, do it yourself! I did ALL the Immigration/AOS paperwork. I don't even think Tony has a clue exactly how much paperwork was involved for that. I just filled everything out and then presented it to him and said sign here, here, and here  He doesn't really have a traditional job here so he didn't really have to fill out formal paperwork for that. He's working for my cousin's company so that helps ;)

So no, I guess he's not fed up with the paperwork because he's sheltered from it :P Good topic though - you never realize how much it really is when you're so used to doing it all the time.

hi...actually you are right...i put the wrong service center...it is Vermont...
quick question did any of you have to fill out a ds 1858 form??? i bought a visa book and that form is listed...just wanted to make sure i didn't miss any forms....

Ok, through Vermont, that timeline is more realistic  I don't remember doing any DS 1858?? I don't think that's required. The forms found right here on VJ are usually pretty accurate. Those are the only ones I used and we were ok. I've never heard of that other form.

everything is finally all together...sending it to mike today and it should get to him by Tuesday...then if all goes well he should take it to Kingston on Thursday...than more waiting till he gets a interview date and time....i hate waiting..

Hope all is well with everyone!!!!

Shauna

Hey Shauna,
I was just looking at your timeline - how on earth did you guys get your NOA2 so fast through NSC??? :o The ONLY place I've ever seen it happen that quick is Vermont. Wow! We had to wait over 3 months from NOA1 to NOA2. That's great!

Ok Ok Ok...Here I am! You all have to remember its a 3 HOUR drive and of course we had to stop and celebrate!!!

  WE WERE APPROVED!!!

Although I am afraid we are stuck in FBI name check hell  Our interviewer said it could be days, weeks, months or even years...yes she herself said years :o But we are approved thats all that matters

Full Report coming shortly...

YIPPEE!!! :D :luv: Doesn't it feel good? LOL

I was a little pissed that I spent a million hours getting this HUGE AOS package together and making copies of everything and stressing about getting all this evidence and all this stuff together and she looked at NONE of it. NONE!!!

Oh my gosh, I felt EXACTLY the same way  We had so much paperwork and I spent so much time on everything and she didn't look at hardly any of ours either  Like I said, they already have most of the information right in front of them. But, it's always better to be over-prepared than to be missing something you need

Hope you guys get the GC soon. It's like a giant weight being lifted off your shoulders. Then you don't have to do anything else for almost 2 years :P

Shauna

Yes, Yes, Yes  If it's at all possible you should try to be there with him for the Interview. Pretty much all of us who were there w/ our fiances flew through with no problems. They seem to hassle and question the guys a lot more if their fiance is not there. Just my opinion.

Happy Birthday to everyone celebrating today. My birthday is today too!

Happy Birthday to you too  How's the pregnancy going?

Rhonda, Hope you have a good night..I am going to bed now, my mom and I are going to Jacksonville tomorrow to have lunch with my cousin and go look for bridesmaids dresses.

So until later, Joanna

Thanks. Have fun tomorrow. I love dress shopping. Unfortunatley I didn't get to pick out bridesmaid dresses :crying: We planned everything such last minute. My sister was my Maid of Honor and she just wore a dress she already had. And my friend Jackies husband (also Jamaican) was Tony's best man. We only had about 30 people at our wedding.

Hey Jamie whats on your AOS interview list??

When you get the interview letter they give you this HUGE list of things to bring. I will bring it to work tomorrow and scan it in so you guys can see it. I have basically everything on that list. After I organize all of it I will post what I have.

I brought so much stuff to the interview and the lady didn't even need/want most of it :bonk: She had all of our original paperwork right in front of her. Even the stuff the letter tells you to bring (ie: birth certificate, copies of all Immigration documents, etc.) she didn't even collect that from us. Basically the most important things are the current things:

Most recent W-2 showing we filed jointly/married(she already had the previous 3 years worth from former paperwork)
Marriage license/certificate
Bank statements with both our names on the acccount
My health care coverage letter showing Tony as my dependant
Our ticket stubs from our trip to Florida (honeymoon) together

I brought our whole wedding album w/ pics but she never even looked at it. I'll have to look back at my stuff to see if I'm forgetting anything.

By the way, I have a question. Does your man mind doing housework? I happen to believe it's o.k. for the man to pitch in.

Tony does the housework better than me :innocent: He did ALL of it when he first got here since I was working full time and he was home all day. He did the dusting, vacuuming, cooking, laundry, everything! He never once complained or said it was "women's work" or anything like that. I loved it. Now we share it about half & half.

I have always wanted to drive down the Keys...so we might just go stay a 4-5 nights in Key West I would at least like to go some where for a few days just to get away after the wedding and to say that yeah we did have a honeymoon...

Key West sounds good. I've heard it's beautiful there. You may want to beware of the Chi-Chi men though if Adrian is like most other Jamaican men when it comes to that  I hear there's a lot of them in that area. We had a "belated" honeymoon about 4 months after we got married. I didn't have any vacation time left by the time Tony got here :P

By the way, what are "pre-wedding" photo's??? I've never heard of that

is it advisable to purchase a one way ticket or a return ticket?

We bought Tony a round trip ticket because it was cheaper. It really doesn't matter one way or the other. No one questioned us at all.

Ok I had to put this out there...Avoid window 6! The lady is awful and doesn't really know what she is doing

NO WINDOW 6 :protest:

I don't even remember what window we had  It seems like Tony has been here forever  It's been 1 1/2 years already since he moved here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JILL! Glad you had a nice trip to Miami. Sounds like fun.

I'm gonna go finish catching up and make all my little comments now :P

Sorry Rhonda :(
Do you live close enough to your each others respective work sites so that perhaps you can get together for your lunch or dinner breaks at work? Sort of like a once a week picnic?
Michele (F)

No, unfortunately that's not really an option. I work about 30 min. each way from home! And I only get 1/2 hour for lunch so Tony would have to spend an hour driving just to see me for 30 minutes  And he works all over the place doing construction. They eat lunch on the go most days - fast food in the truck or whatever. Thanks for the idea though

Also, have a safe trip B)

I will now be leaving on May 3rd and still returning on May 18th...Adrian is so excieted that I am coming early.

My parents are in Florida right now on vacation. They flew into Tampa then went south to Sarasota, Naples, etc. then across to Boca Raton, then Palm Beach.

Hi Rhonda...it seems as if your parents came through my area. I live in Boca Raton. Do they visit this area often?

Lee

Hey there,

No they don't really go to Florida that often. My aunt and uncle moved down there last summer to retire there and they mainly went to visit them. They decided to do a little scenic tour of Florida for the first few days though. My dad has some friends and clients with homes in the area and they visited with some of them. I think they stayed the 1st night in Sarasota, the 2nd night in Naples, and the 3rd night somewhere North of Palm Beach. They just passed thru Boca Raton - I think they had lunch there yesterday :) I didn't realize you were from Florida also. I knew Joanna was.

Hey rhonda, I am here at work also!!!

I'm here until 11:30 tonight :P 2 more hours to go.

My parents are in Florida right now on vacation. They flew into Tampa then went south to Sarasota, Naples, etc. then across to Boca Raton, then Palm Beach. I think tonight and tomorrow night they're staying with friends in Davenport. Is that close to you? It's supposed to be near Orlando I think. Then they're going to Brooksville to stay with my aunt and uncle for a few more days. I'm dog-sitting for them in the mean time

I'm bored and want to go home.

Hi Rhonda,

Bitter Melon is a type of squash, only its VERY bitter. I was doing some reading on the internet, and I guess its very good for you. I guess its a very ethnic food and the Americans have yet to discover its health benefits. I tell ya its addictive, but the first time you try it, its the most awful stuff you have ever had. Kinda of like eating raw lemons and quadrupling that reaction or more.

If it's so bitter and awful, why do you eat it  I've never heard of it. I'll have to ask Tony if he has. Is it popular in Jamaica too?
rhondapayterFemaleJamaica2006-04-21 20:40:00

Hello everyone :star:
I'm here at work lonely and bored  I'm just catching up. Kinda quiet in here today.

Jill - I love and cook bitter melon all the time. Sometimes you have to soak it in a bit of salt water first to get rid of some of the bitterness (although I like it bitter) - let it sit for a while and then squeeze out the liquid. If you add a bit of coconut milk (a tiny bit) after the curry, it will be much better.

What on earth is bitter melon???

I have good news to start out the day... Michael got a job

Yipee!!!! Congratulations!!!!

DITTO! CONGRATS Michael  What a relief for you Julie

Well Andre is working for my mom tonight and this weekend doing some carpet cleaning work so it will just be me and the puppies all weekend :crying: Actually as much as I will miss spending the time with him it will be good to have some me time. Its been a long time since I watched whatever I wanted to watch and took a bath for more than 10 minutes without interuption
Anyone got any weekend plans?

Jamie, Trust me, cherish the time you get to spend together. Once both of you are working full-time you won't see each other nearly as much. With me being on afternoon shift and Tony on day shift, we never see each other anymore :crying: I miss him!

As for the weekend, tomorrow (Sat.) I have to work  I'm not happy about it at all. The only day this week I will get to see my baby is Sunday.

Rhonda,

Where did you and Henry stay when you went to DR? Squito and I are trying to plan a honeymoon. I'm a bit hesitant about going ahead and booking w/o having his AP document in hand, but I cannot think of a good reason that it would be denied. But with all of the trouble we've been having as of late, I dont want to buy a trip until I know that he can travel outside of the US. We found a great package deal to DR for only 600 pp all inclusive for 5 nights, that's not bad...

Me and TONY  (not Henry!) stayed in Punta Cana, DR. We stayed at Ocean Bavaro Spa & Beach Resort. It was nice except for the nasty food that gave me food poisoning and made me sick  The beach, pools, entertainment, etc. were all good. A few problems with getting service - our A/C had to be worked on 4 different times before they finally got it fixed right :( We will not be going there again because there are so many other places I want to see. We would DEFINATELY not revisit that particular resort because of the issues we had. Check out Tripadvisor.com. It gives lots of peoples different reviews on different resorts. It's very helpful.

Also, check www.debbiesdominicantravel.com -- there are TONS of review on this site. Damn, do I sound like Kelly? [/color]

   Yes, I used this website too for additional info. before our trip. It's pretty good.

And I applied for a new social security card with my new name. I made my maiden name my middle name and my new middle initial will appear on the card (I just can't let go  )

I did the exact same thing with my maiden name too :D I didn't want to give up my old name completely!

How do you know when it’s the right time to have a baby? What things did you/do you want to have in place before you decide to have a baby? Do you/did you want a certain amount of money saved up, assets, certain job wage? What are those things? Do those things need to be in place before you decide to have a baby or do you decide to have a baby and then trust that those things will fall into place? I am asking for personal opinions and experience…no right or wrong…just what is right for you.

Also for those that have had children…how much do they really cost? Is it doable on a “regular” income?

Just curious :innocent:

Jamie,
I ask myself these things all the time  I'm not sure when me and Tony will be ready. We're worried about the cost of child care since we are both working. Also, I hate my job and being on 2nd shift so I've been looking for a new job. I don't want to be unemployed and/or going on job interviews while pregnant :o Most of the people I know didn't really plan on getting pregnant, it just happened and then things just kinda fell into place because they HAD to  I wish I had a better answer for you (and myself!)

I would say save up at least two- three months income

Yes, I definately agree with this  We want to save about 3 months worth of living expenses so I can use the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) to take 3 months UNPAID leave from work. This would be in addition to the 6 weeks PAID leave that I think we already get.

Oh shucks...I didn't mean to do that. I meant to keep everyone's votes confidential. I hit the wrong thing. Sorry folks. So far...out of the 4 votes....3 of them are no. How did I get stuck with the only Jamaican that does???

Hey Jill, Did you close this poll already? I'm assuming it was the one about smoking?

Well.....I wish I could go in and spy on him......

He said a lot of people in the class can't speak English. But, he is learning. I think it's gonna actually do him alot of good. It really is all in the translation and the stuff that they are working on forces him to use proper English -- which, I don't because I don't do it either.....and I can understand what he is talking about. The stranger on the street (and all my friends) have no clue what he is saying

We work on math at home. I'm gonna be in trouble soon because we are moving into fractions :crying:

That's really good that Roy is taking classes and he LIKES them! Tony took the first ESL class and did good but then he dropped out of the 2nd one because he started working and he wasn't getting home in time to go to class :( I wish he could keep taking them, but I'm not sure how to fit it in his work schedule and right now money is more important as you all probably know

My best advice to all you newbies is to get your man in classes ASAP when he gets here. For one, it will give him something constructive to do so he's not bored out of his mind and also, this is the best time for him to do it, before he starts working and gets too busy.

And Mindy, let me know if you need help with those fractions  Just don't ask me anything about Calculus

Let me ask you ladies this....How in the world did you make room for your fiance??? I dont have enough closet space for him...my closet is packed and I dont want to be rude and make him put his stuff in the spare bedroom closet :hehe:

 I had/have the same problem. Tony agreed to use the spare bedroom closet :innocent: He has his own dresser in there too. I have the 2 huge closets in the master bedroom all to myself!!!

We finally have wonderful news......................................Damien's AOS was approved

He received the letter today so the green card should follow soon. It took 1 year, 2 months and 6 days. No more USCIS until January 2008

CONGRATULATIONS :D Finally  Hope for a speedy delivery of the GC!

We want to join a gym...we were even talking about it over the weekend. The hard part is the closest gym is 20 minutes from our house...in the opposite direction from our jobs (so no stopping on the way home from work). To spend 40 minutest just to get there and back   and then however long you spend at the gym...

Then there is the gas prices that keep rising...

I know I am full of excuses :innocent:

So after I get over all that we still have to wait til Andre has a steady job so we can afford it...gyms are crazy expensive :ranting:

I have a lifetime membership at Fitness USA that I've had since I was like 18! I haven't used it in awhile  Sometimes I just go there to use the steam room, sauna, pool, and hot tub!

I bought an elliptical trainer for my house a couple years ago and I LOVE it  It's very low impact and it works out the whole body. And it's so much easier to work out at home - no driving anywhere, paying for extra gas, etc.. I just do 20-35 min. on that, then I lift my 10 lb. weights, then do crunches. I used to be really good about doing this about 2x a week, but lately ......... No time and 100 other excuses I tell myself

We'll we still talking about that. He's always saying says...."I chat to much". :P I was really interested in Eric's latest story and see if he go approved and or what they said to him. Otherwise, more phone bills that are insane and more travel to Jamaica. Just not as much since I have the house now. The K1 or K3 route is still up in the air. Thats why I put that poll on the yahoo site. I'm leaning towards getting married down there sometime. But then again....we still chattin about that. ;) We got nothing but time. Thanks to him..... :bonk:

Jill
Did you have a change of heart? I thought you had called off the entire Jamaica thing and decided to "move on" with your life? I don't know how you can do it. I wouldn't be able to. LDR are too hard. I couldn't do it for 3 years.

Speaking of Eric, it's cruel and unusual punishment to keep us waiting so long for details on how it went :P

OK Mindy you had to ask...I was not going to share and put my dog business out there   but if you really want to know he had an abscessed ####### gland (I know gross  )...poor little thing at first it was a bump till he kept biting it and licking it and now he has 2 puncture wounds near his rectum. I guess it is my fault cause I didnt know that every now and then I was suppose to have his ####### glands excreted  (YUCK)...so now he has a sore rump

Oh my gosh, I have heard it all now :o Poor doggie! Hope he feels better soon.

So true, I will not let it go again...I dont want to have to put medication in his butt again  ...I feel so bad for him, he had to wear the cone around his head so he cannot lick and he kept running into things  ...so mom and I went to the pet store and got him the little panties  that they use for the female dogs during thier time of the month  ...so it covers his butt and he cannot lick, it works out much better then the cone on the head

Oh my God girl, You're killing me here  You don't even want to know the funny pictures I have in my head right now

Hi Everyone! I am sooooo behind…

Rhonda~ Sorry you were moved onto the night shift. I agree with what someone else said – you have a lot of experience…don’t let them push you around!

Jamie, I am so glad to see you back on the board. I've been wondering where you've been  I hope you and Andre are feeling better soon.

As for my job, I have been half-hearted looking for another job, but I'm having trouble finding something that pays as good  Tony's income is still unreliable (his job also depends on the weather) so I can't afford to take a huge pay cut right now :(

You sure you want triplets one day? You better not jinx yourself

Just had to share.

My hubby was right....
He was saying the twins are boy/girl.
I thought girl/girl

Rickie wins! Twin A is a boy and twin B is a girl
Yes, we ARE taking suggestions for names!

Oh, that's so awesome! :D A boy and a girl!! Then you're done  I'll have to think about the name thing

We had our biggest fight ever about his driving, I knew he was mad at me cause it starting yelling at me in patios, It's hard to argue when he's fussing it me in a different lanuage

Oh my gosh, this is JUST like Tony  When he gets really vexed he starts cussing and talking in Patois

It's really hard with Tony working days and me working nights :(

Correction -- that makes for a great marriage   (L)

You're just saying that now because you get to see your man ALL the time! :P I only see mine while he's sleeping - ok maybe that is good - we can't fight if he's sleeping  Seriously though, it sucks  And to answer Jonesies question, I am on afternoon shift indefinately. They moved me with no notice - told me on Friday I'm going to 2nd shift on Monday - and they can move me again whenever they feel like it :help:
