Oh my what a day  I just got a call from Andre at work and the first words out of his mouth are “Promise not to get mad” well you know it can’t be good after that. Andre went driving alone  First thought is he got in an accident or a ticket but praise God he didn’t. He found 2 puppies in the middle of the road. He picked them up and saw a farmer out in a nearby field so he went over to ask if they were his. Well the farmer went on for quite a bit to Andre about how people don’t have any hearts these days and how wicked society is…people come out to this area and dump unwanted litters. How sad is that! Well Andre picked up 2 of them and brought them home. He called my mom first and she told him that she would send my sis (Becky) over to help him bring them to an animal shelter. But then I get the call from Andre…he relays the whole story and throughout the whole convo he is telling me how sweet, adorable, wonderful, cute and cuddly these puppies are. Finally he gets to the end of the convo and says that he is going to tell Becky that she can’t have them and wants to know if I am ok with that. We just have to keep them he says :luv: Well I agreed that we would make a decision when I got home. So he was all excited to tell my sis that she can’t take them…that we might keep them. So I quick asked my boss (my landlord) if it would be ok to have dogs and he said yes…and my other boss overheard me and said that he has a kennel and dog house that he isn’t using…so we can have that! Can you believe this?!?! So anyways I am headed home in a half hour…this is crazy! Andre and my sis brought them over to my mom’s house (she has dog food and stuff) and she says they look like German Sheperds  I will keep you guys posted!

Thank goodness Andre didn't get in an accident or get pulled over! Hopefully, you lectured him on why he shoudln't take the car out alone  Yeah, when they start out the conversation w/ "promise not to get mad" you know you're in trouble  I'm glad it worked out positive for you guys. Now Andre will have something to occupy him while you're at work. What better way to do it than with 2 puppies

Good morning ladies :luv: I hope everyone has a good Tuesday! I'm here at work as usual just waiting for everyone to wake up and come chat with me

Does anyone know how to post multiple posts in a row? I don't like all my posts all together  That is the one thing I do NOT like about this new VJ format. If anyone figures this out, please let me know.

CONGRATS on Neil arriving safely  What did he think of the surprise party? I think Tony would have been mad at me if I did that to him when he first arrived  That must have been a little bit overwhelming!

Aussiewench~ Thanks for preserving the old thread

Well guys lets get going...we have a long way to go to get back up there.

How is everyone this morning?

I'm here at work, bored as usual  I'm trying to figure out how to use this new site. I clicked on "reply" instead of "quote" as we used to do. We'll see what happens.

OK, it worked. So then what is the "quote" for? If you click on it, it changes color and goes from a plus + sign to a negative - sign. Does anybody know?

It must be that no one in their right mind comes to Vermont (except me, go figure). It always appears to me that the person I am in front of has never seen a foreigner in all their lives and has no idea what to do with my situation. I may as well have landed from Mars. No one seems to know if I can drive on a foreign license here.

Call your local police station and ask them. They're the ones who are going to give you the ticket if it's NOT accepted! So they should know. I would think you could drive on your Jamaican license for a while. (Do NOT call 911! Call the non-emergency number ;) )

My mom is taking me and sis to a spa for the day on Saturday :dancing: :joy: And I told Tony we would go shopping at some outlet stores about 90 miles from us - I put aside some income tax money for it.

Wish I had my tax money sounds like fun. I haven't been shopping forever.

We are each getting $300 to spend. Tony made a face and said "that's it"? Damn ungrateful Jamaican husband :bonk:

Ok, here's a question for you vets:

I have been employed at my job since January 2001 but I am temporary status, meaning no benifits. Will that look bad on my I34? :help:

No. Not if you've been with them for 6 years. And you make enough money to meet the poverty requirement.

I think its an interesting twist though for you to get him an apartment. That could be a good and bad thing. Since he is coming to the US on a K1 you ma y want to use this 90 day "trial" period to actually live with each other and see how that sort of interaction goes before you marry and file to adjust. Just my opinion though. You know what is best for u and your daughter. I hope all goes well when he arrives and you start a wonderful life together.

I agree. I have mixed feelings on the whole apartment idea. Won't he feel alone and isolated (even more) if he has to live by himself? He won't have any transportation to get around. He won't have a TV or computer or radio to pass the time - unless you get him a furnished apt. Plus like Marlita said, you want to make sure you can live together and get along and put up with each other! Not to mention the extra expense of having another rent to pay.

If you're doing this JUST for your parents sake, I wouldn't do it. They'll come around on their own in time. (Mine did and they were really, really against the whole thing) You need to do what's right for YOU.

All in all, Roy is a pretty good driver -- it's all me. I am a horrible "back seat driver." I am the one who ALWAYS drives -- I just feel safer that way. It doesn't matter to me who I am with -- I will be afraid.....I am so nervous when he is driving I think I make him more nervous.

Tony is a speed demon. He already got one ticket for speeding  I'm always telling him to slow down. The guys he works with call him Mario Andretti (Nascar race car driver :o )He drives me crazy. He hates all the rules we have here.

When I finally got down to the meat of the matter...there was a completely intact jawbone staring back at me..complete with molars, premolars and inscisors embedded in the blackest gums I had ever seen. I think the goat was suffering from gingivitis. I dropped the entire bowl and all but puked.

Cow cod soup (which is the ####### and ####### and, incidentally, come from the bull - not the cow)

:o Oh my gosh! I would have definately puked. I can't even imagine. And how can you eat an animals ####### :o That's just not right

Tony likes tripe and bean too - but I won't even go near it!

I have had Chicken Foot Soup and Cow Foot Stew in Kingston -- like them both. NO MANNISH SOUP for me!!!

There was a big rally yesterday in Dallas for Immigration Reform. Mostly mexican immigrants but Im sure it wont hurt all others on the forefront for reform. Last year over a hundred thousand showed up.

Darn it, If people want to come here & work, I say let them!!!!! We have Americans who are born here & dont want to work. Stop the red tape.

CHEAP LABOR?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage Consumers don't want expensive
produce Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a
farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as "cheap labor."

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He
takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents,
he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income
Tax
Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent
He qualifies for food stamps
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school
He requires bilingual teachers and books
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills

.. If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at
TAXPAYER'S EXPENSE. He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance,
or homeowners insurance.

.. Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed
material. He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00
/hour in benefits. Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour
left after paying their bills and his.

.. The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime, graffiti and
trash clean-up.

Cheap Labor. Yah, wake up people. No such thing.

I have to disagree with you! There are not enough jobs available as it is. :ranting: There are so many unemployed people in Michigan - and not for lack of trying!! The economy sucks and all the big 3 auto companies laying everybody off certainly doesn't help. I've been looking for another job for awhile now, but the job market is soooo bad I can't find anything. We have to have restrictions on Immigration!!!

One of my worst nightmares happened this morning --Damien was in a car accident on his way to work. I have no idea how this man walked away without an injury. The car flipped over three times and landed on the driver's side...Damien still went to work and was worried about being late

We had a Jamaican day yesterday - started off with chicken from Jus Jerk and festival, then to the Caribbean grocery store to shop for Easter's dinner. Damien got two large HTB easter buns and cheese along with other good food. I got a small round spice bun with cheese which I ate this morning  The cricket match was on so we stayed to watch some of it...he was happy to watch the match with other Jamaicans. Afterwards, we went to the Jamaican ice cream store (they have flavors like sweet sop, sour sop, guiness, guineup, mango etc) for his favorite grapenut ice cream...it is very good ice cream, all natural. Then we went to the Caribbean club last night....we danced the entire night. Boy, I am still full and tired....

I am so jealous :P That sounds awesome. I didn't know they had all those icecream flavors! The only one I've ever had is Rum n Raisin - and Hagaan Daaz makes it but it's hard to find and not quite the same. I've never had sweet sop or sour sop - the fruit or the icecream! What's it similar to?

Immigration has basicly in my point of view, taken away their manhood.

Yes, I agree with this. When you're in Jamaica you're on THEIR turf. You have to RELY on them for everything. Where to go, what to do, how to get there, the culture, norms, exchange rate, etc.. Then they get here in the U.S. and they have to rely on YOU for everything. They are not the man of the house or head of the house - you are whether you like it or not. They have to learn a whole new set of rules and laws and cultures and norms. It's a complete role reversal. Add to that the major fact that they can't even work and help "bring home the bacon" and it really depresses them.

I don't believe that I am on "his" turf in Jamaica. I personally have never ever ever had to rely on Craig for anything in Jamaica. I already knew the area, culture, norms, exchange, etc etc waaaaay before I met him.

Kelly, I think you are the exception to the rule  I know me personally, other than the original cruise I went on (that was the day I met Tony) I had NEVER even been to Jamaica before. If I had gone alone I would probably have stayed in an all-inclusive resort so I would feel safer. With Tony, he was like my own personal tour guide! B) And he saved me lots of money by getting me the "locals" rate instead of the tourist rates!

I agree, that was a really good post. Everything you said was right on. It's funny because I have been living in JA with my husband for the past few months, and I am certain the roles will change when he gets here.

That's good that you can live with him for a while so you guys can really get to know each other before he comes here. How do you get time off work? I wish I could have stayed in JA for longer during the Immigration process, but it just wasn't feasible for me. The longest I ever stayed at one time was for 2 weeks

I let Roy pull the truck into the garage.....not a good idea. He almost blew the back wall out.....he blamed it on him never driving the truck before. Guess his first time should have been in a parking lot

After hearing all "your" driving horror stories. There is no way I could do this by myself. Let someone else take the brunt of his Jamaican "spirit."

I guess I got luck with my Jamaican, because other than driving a bit too fast, he's a pretty good driver  He didn't have to go to driver's school or anything and he passed the written test the 1st time and the road test the 2nd time. (1st time he failed at parallel parking  ) My biggest problem is trying to keep my mouth shut while he's driving  I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to that :innocent:

we had 2 biometrics. one for AOS and one for EAD. Our AOS one showed up first.

Hey Rhonda,
Good luck on your new shift....do you keep busy at work or are there slow times...I know on my night shifts when we are slow I have a portable DVD player and I can watch movies, but I am sure you work is way different then mine....at my job if someone is not sick or thier house is not on fire and we get pretty slow...thats pretty sad that at my job I only work if someone is having an emergency...although it seems like lately we have been so busy even at 3am in the morning... Me and my friend have a joke between us, everytime when we are driving and we see some idiot driving crazy or some foolish person walking across a busy street and not paying attention..we say "OH theres Job Security"

Well I just got back from my 1st Weight Watchers meeting....wish me luck I would really like to lose 20 lbs before my wedding....although I have already bought my dress and it might be too big...thats ok though my dad said if i lose weight he would pay to have it altered to fit me, he just wants me to lose weight.

It is VERY slow here at work on this shift. I am the only supervisor here, but you never know when/if one of the bosses is gonna pop up unexpectedly to check up on me! I don't know if I could get away with the DVD player! :innocent: I may have to bring in a book or magazine though. I am so bored. I'm leaving slightly early tonight to go pick up my boo from the airport :D He is grumpy and cranky from travelling all day and hungry cause he had no time on his layover to get food :o Should be fun

Good luck with the weight loss  I know how hard it is to lose weight  My sister used to be in Weight Watchers and then she even worked there for awhile as a consultant. She thinks it's one of the best programs out there. Some restaurants like Applebees even have Weight Watchers items on the menu that tell you how many points a meal is!!

I am not happy about it  I start at 2:00pm and work until at least 10:30pm but most likely they work til 12:30 or 2:30am on any given day. I sure hope they don't think I'm going to be working 12 hours a day! :hehe:

:D

I checked out your bridal registry on Bed Bath - you didn't register for very much! Are you having a really small shower?

I am so upset and mad  My boss just told me today that starting this Monday, I have to go to afternoon shift :ranting: I HATE afternoons. I will never see Tony or any of my family or friends for that matter. I have had enough of this damn job. The lady that is on 2nd shift now is coming back to days because she has "issues" with her babysitter and her kids. That's not my problem! How come I get punished? Life sucks

Rhoda:
Have you tried simply telling them no. I find it intrusive and insulting that some jobs think they have this right to uproot you from your fixed schedule. I find simply sticking to a firm but polite " I am sorry , about ______ problems she is facing, however, Im sorry but I cannot change the times I am working on a short notice like this. Are you under some kindah of contract where your employer reserves the right to change you hours whenever they feel like it. Unless you are I dont see how they can fire you, becuase you have other obligations. Of course though you would never want to risk it, not while going through this process.

Unfortunately, the nature of this job is that we have NO say so in what shift we get put on at ALL. Since we are salary and not hourly, we are not in the Union so we don't have any rights or protection. I was on day shift for the first 3 years, then afternoons for almost a year, then back to days for 6 months, now back to afternoons this Monday  I HATE this job. I'm really trying to look for another job. The problem is finding one that pays even close to what I make here. I just want something with normal hours - 40 hours a week and NO weekends!!

The results are in: IT'S A BOY!!!

CONGRATULATIONS  :D Any ideas for names yet?
