Hey Jill,

Glad to hear your sweetie's coming home tomorrow. Sorry he had so many problems with the luggage. Usually if you just pay the fee for the over-weight luggage, you can still bring it on the plane. That sucks. He had to leave some of his stuff in Guyana? I think that's what you were saying. Can you guys have it sent here somehow? Or is it cheaper to buy all new clothes? I don't know but it may be worth looking into.

And yes, once someone goes to America, they're automatically "rich" in their minds. Not only that, but in Tony's case he wanted to appear rich (I think) by bringing things for everyone and buying food and drinks for everyone while we were there. Also, wearing all name brand, new clothing, etc.. It's really a pain. In my mind, he's just making it worse, because now they really do think we have money to blow :o Plus, now he's started a trend where everytime we go back to Jamaica, we'll have to bring a bunch of gifts for everyone :(

As for the pineapple, yes you can bring certain fruits into the U.S. We brought a bread-fruit back with us last time. I LOVE it and we can't get it here.

Happy Monday to all. I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

Damien had the weekend off so we did a little bit of shopping for his father and brothers. Damien's baby brother was born right after he left Jamaica so they have never met. Everyone says the baby looks just like Damien. I love buying baby clothes so he's spoiled already.

The trip....my mother and aunt decided to go with us so this will be interesting. It's good in a way because my mother and I have never been on vacation together and she will get to meet Damien's family. I hope she's on her best behaviour because she can be out of control sometimes  She's quite a comedien. We are total opposites because she's life of the party and I'm the quiet one in the back of the room. Thank God it's a short trip.

Good luck with that  It ought to be an interesting trip! What day do you guys leave? I know you must be so excited.

Good Monday morning,

I am at work as usual. I am so tired I have not been sleeping well lately, I dont know what my problems is.

Michele - There should be no problems with you visiting JA while the process is in progress since we (USC) can travel pretty freely to JA. It is only if the fiances tried to come to the US that there might be a problem.

Joanna

Good morning everyone :star: It's been way too quiet in here lately :( Where is everyone?

As far as going back & forth to Jamaica during the process, yes I did. I WAS harassed though. Not because of the Visa application, but because I was a single white female traveling alone to Jamaica VERY frequently. I think they thought I was smuggling drugs or something  I was searched just about every time I went after the first two trips. Telling them I my fiance lived in Jamaica and that I was visiting him did not seem to help any. They even searched me IN Jamaica while I was trying to leave to come back to the U.S. They delayed me so long I almost missed my plane :o This last time when Tony & I went down, we had no problems. I think they target people traveling alone since most people go on vacation as a couple or a family. After my initial cruise to JA when I met Tony, I made 5 more trips by myself over a 7 month period! I swear they had me tagged or something.

Hello all,

To those of you that have been through the process already, I have a question...I am bored so I thought I would get papers together (I hate waiting till the last minute for anything) for the interview......

What stuff did you turn in at the interview as far as the tax stuff, I just did my 2005 taxes a couple weeks ago and my statement is 16 pages long...DO they want all of that??

My personal income stuff is a couple pages but add in the stuff that I deducted for my business it is about 16 pages long....I am going to use my business as income evidence because my full time job I make well enough over the 125% poverty guidelines.

Thanks everyone and I am sure I will have more questions as time goes on....I am so glad I have all of you to ask questions to.

Joanna

Same as Jonesie said. Take everything you have  It's better to have it and not need it, than be missing something once you get there. They took 3 yrs. worth of W-2's and tax returns and all the required paperwork (police record, affidavit of support, etc.) We also had pictures and other evidence with us but they did not look at any of it.

Hey ladies,

Tony got summoned for Jury Duty! :o And it's scheduled during our trip to Punta Cana! So anyway, I called to postpone it or whatever and I asked the lady if he is eligible since he's NOT a U.S. citizen. She said NO, he should have never been summoned. We filled out a questionaire a few months ago and the first question was "are you a U.S. citizen" are we answered NO. She said there's been a lot of mistakes lately. It happened to another guy and he spent a whole day downtown before they realized he shouldn't have been there in the first place!

So just so you all know, in case this happens to you, NON-U.S. citizens do not have to do Jury Duty. At least that's the way it is in Michigan. Tony will be very relieved when I tell him. He really did not want to do it.

Hi Ladies,

Congrats to the wedding dates coming up in the next couple of wks. Please post pics soon. It's snowing here too in Chicago but I'm glad I'm in the house.

Well, as for me I took out all 4 of my wisdom teeth yesterday so i've been laying up doing nothing but absorbing the pain. I'm the biggest baby when it comes to the pain, I swear at times I surprise myself esp when I had my daughter. I'm in so much pain it ain't even funny I've been crying all freaking day :crying: My daughter has been real helpful, she made breakfast (scrabble eggs & french toast sticks) for her and my cousin she's 7. Yes I'm sick and I'm still stuck w/other ppl kids. My daughter got up and cleaned my face plus fed me a yogurt. I just took some Vidakin (sp?) so I know I'm going to be on cloud 9 in a few.

I'll be checking in throughtout the weekend since I'm home until Tuesday. I hope everyone else enjoy the weekend and dress warm.

anna

Oh I feel your pain girl :( I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 18 or 19 and I remember it vividly. It sucks! Hang in there and make sure you drink plenty of fluids. I got sick from being put under and then i got de-hydrated and ended up in the hospital :crying: It was NOT a fun experience for me. It's nice that your daughter is helping you out. Feel better soon.

ok now we're up to 20" of snow and they just closed West Farms mall!! :P

Oh my gosh :o 20" of snow?!!! You went from 8" to 20" in about 4 hours! That's crazy :o

Well the No'easter/blizzard is in full force here in Connecticut and expected to last throughout the daylight hours. I'm thinking of the the Squittos as they are supposed to fly out to Vegas and pick up their marriage certificate today. The airports are shut down right now here and all flights are expected to be cancelled today; I hear it's the same with NY airports too :( . I hope they are able to keep their original plans since airport cancellations like these often take days to get back on schedule. Keeping you and everyone else in my thoughts.

Michele (F)

Joanna-I have no plans to file right now.

Good luck to the Squitto's! I hope they made their flight, but the info. on the news looked grim. It said all the airports were shut down and flights cancelled :o Let us know how you guys are doing as soon as you can.

Hello everyone..just checking in.

I finally found my dress. I'll send pictures on Wed.

Good bye for now.

I found my special bra at walmart.

It's snowing here as well, it's going to be 60 on Tuesday.

We look forward to seeing pictures of your wedding day. Wow 60 is great for a mid-February wedding. Congratulations!

Wow! We have a lot of people getting married within the next couple of weeks  Mrs. Squitto & Dee on Feb. 14, Mindy (possibly Feb. 17), Rita, and Jonesie. Am I forgetting anyone? Mindy~

We will have the comcast bill (cable and Internet) in both names. I am gonna try to get the house phone back on in his name. Not sure about any of the other bills. I added him to my savings account at the credit union....did anyone else's fiance have to fill out a W-8 to add them to an account...something about because he didnt have a greencard??

I went to pay some money at Davids Bridal for my layaway (dress and shoes) I ended up buying more stuff and putting nothing more down on my dress. I got a veil, tiara, gloves, and a bra for $177!! I have a strapless bra but when I originally tried on the dress I was wearing one of their EXPENSIVE bras so I figured I better go with what I know works with the dress. I am looking for a salon that does extensions around here. I want my hair to look nice :)

I guess that is all for now...hope everyone has a great weekend!! Shemanya I miss talking to you and I will hopefully have a house phone soon....try to stay out of that snow!

Blessings,
Rita

Hey Rita, I know what you mean about the "special" bra from David's Bridal  I bought my dress there too and tried it on with a regular bra when I got home and it was not gonna work! Their bras are great (if you got the same one I did) they come all the way down to your belly button and keep everything nice and sucked in so you look smooth in your dress  Tony called it my girdle  Refresh my memory, when are you guys getting married? You're coming up on your 90 day deadline arent' you? :o

Also, I didn't even put Tony on any of my bills. I just added him to my checking & savings account and my health insurance coverage at work. I think I also printed a paper showing him as my emergency contact for work. They didn't give us any problem. Oh, and I had our vacation itinerary for our future trip to Florida that we had booked showing us both traveling together.

Rita, it looks like I just missed you. I don't think anyone else is awake this early on a Saturday! I'm at work or else I'd still be home asleep in my nice warm bed  I didn't really want to work today but my boss told me to come in and I really need the money. We're leaving for Punta Cana in 17 days and even though it's All-Inclusive, we need spending money for shopping and water sports and such. Only non-motorized water sports are included.

Hey Rita -- Glad to see things are beginning to get back on track. I don't think I could ever live without my house phone. Cell phones are great, but..... There is nothing like having a "land line."

Have you and Tashi decided what you are all putting in both your names?

I actually went without a house phone for over a year and just used my cell. But, then we had the huge Black-out in August of '03 (I think) and no one's cell phone worked, we had no power so couldn't charge cell phones even when they did start working, etc. It freaked me out and that's when I got a house phone! I don't use my house phone much but it comes in handy when I get too high on my minutes on my cell

I am here! I agree we need something to chat about...I am literally falling asleep here at work. No big weekend plans...just watching the big game on sunday.

Hey Rhonda how crazy is detroit? I hear its amazing how many people are there.

Yeah, Detroit is home of the SuperBowl this year  That's all you hear about on the news all day long for the past couple weeks! They have a big winter festival going on downtown all week too. There are concerts and parties and all kinds of festivities. I don't know if we'll be going down there or not. Just to park your car is anywhere from $20 to $30 and up! :o We have other things we need to do with our money right now! I'm not a big football fan and neither is Tony, but I watch parts of the game to see the cool new commercials that come out. The commercials during the Superbowl cost about 2 million $$$ for like 30 seconds or something crazy! :o

He dosen't know what it means to yeild and he always has the right away  SO he got mad at me for screaming at him.

This has been the cause of many little arguements between me & Tony :( It took him a long time and his first ticket to realize that you can't drive here like you drive in Jamaica. I made him go to court to fight the ticket by himself so he would learn his lesson. It's very difficult but sometimes you just gotta wait it out - he'll learn eventually.

I'm so excited for you guys getting the new puppies :D That's a great way to keep Andre happy & occupied. It's also a great time to have new puppies when someone will be home with them all day. I have a 3 year old yellow labrador retriever named Harley. together----to answer your question, i honestly didn't look. it opened up a bunch in February and March. From my perspective it was very easy to do, so I wouldn't do it until you are ready to go to the interview soon. EXCEPT if its around xmass or summer...that's when it will get busier.

jamie-----getting this visa would be so great because his daughter can continue to see him and start travelling to america. We both think its so important to keep a good relationship and henry would love to have her for 1 month in the summer, maybe some xmass's....i want her to gain the experience and so does henry. Also, it will be much cheaper for her to fly here and stay with us in our house then both of us flying down and spending lots of money and doing a couple days in hotels, etc. it's a big savings. It would be nice if not every one of our vacations were to JA every year too...we both have other places we want to go. Does anyone know if a 6 year old can fly alone?

an update on the appointment. we spoke to the mother last night and the date we picked didn't work for her...so i just went online and entered my password, etc. and it let me change the date to 2/27/06 at 9:45...which was what she wanted. it's not as much of a rush that way...

I'll be around all day :star:

Darah,
I agree with you, it would be cheaper for us too! We'd like to bring Tony's daughter up here but she's also (almost) 6 years old and I'm worried about her flying alone. I'm not sure how that works. Obviously someone would have to guide her through security, to her gate, make sure she gets on the plane ok and finds her seat, etc... Not to mention going through Immigration by herself. I'm not sure what process they have in place for children flying alone, especially from outside the country  Tony also has a son who's only 2 1/2 but I think he's too young to be away from his mother yet. Maybe when he gets older. Good luck with everything, sorry I don't have an answer for you.

No, we are unable to go to Jamaica again so soon. We just can't afford it (especially since we already booked our trip to Punta Cana  ) Tony hasn't even mentioned going down there - I think he knows we just can't do it right now.

Michigan only had 65 so don't feel bad Jamie  It looks like most of them are going to New York and Florida. So Squitto, Popcorn, Elizabeth, & Joanna - you guys are in the right place  I think Miami is the 2nd largest Jamaican population in the U.S. after NYC.

anntaylor-

we filed everything at once. I don't think it slowed anything. If anything, I think it almost made it go faster. From the day we filed everything to GreenCard it was 5months. I feel like we wasted money on EAD/AP becuase 5 months would've been reasonable to wait for a savings of $400 approx. But you never know how long it can take. I say apply for everything. Imagine if something happened in JA and you needed to go. Without filing AP you have to wait...and that would be awful.

I agree with Darah. We filed for AP, EAD, and AOS all at once. We never actually used the AP since Tony got his Greencard before we went back to Jamaica, but I would rather have it in case of an emergency or something.

We got bad news last night. Tony's uncle passed away last week :crying: It was his mom's brother. She had been trying to call him but just got through last night. I feel so bad for Tony. It really sucks having all your family in another country and not being able to be with them whenever something like this happens. Tony feels really bad because we didn't visit this particular uncle in December when we were in Jamaica. We just ran out of time. Now he feels bad and guilty :( Do you guys have any ideas of how I can help him feel better and get through this difficult time? Please keep us in your thoughts.

Good Morning,

Just wanted to pop in to tell you all the good news. My Grandmother had her interview in Kingston this morning and was granted w/a 10 yr tourist visa!! I am so happy.

Congrats  That's awesome. Aren't they pretty hard to get? We want Tony's kids to be able to come here and visit when they get a little bit older. Would they have to get the tourist Visa also? I wonder how hard that will be

It's boring in here today. Where is everybody?

Sorry Doodle, I don't know any recipes off-hand. I just throw a bunch of spices on the chicken breasts and grill them on my George Foreman grill :D

just checking in to let you know I was still alive and kicking. I am feeling better in health. I am having a few issues with my youngest childs father....custody issues so if you could please keep my family in your prayers that would be greatly appreciated. On a birghter note I found my wedding dress at davids bridal and I also got my NEW ring. The princess cut diamond was only the engagement ring...now I have a wedding set :) I will get pics uploaded as soon as time allows. I am still busting my hump with two jobs, fighting for custody of my child, planning a wedding, and still trying to maintain my sanity. Tashi and I are doing as well as ever and again I appologize for being away soooo long but as you see my absense is warranted by all the irons in the fire. I see that everyone is doing well and that pleases me. I will try not to stay away so long this time.
Continued Blessings,
Rita

Rita,
It's good to see you on here :luv: Sorry to hear you're having problems with your ex. Hope you can get it all worked out peacefully. Congrats on finding the wedding dress and ring. When and where are you guys getting married? Talk to you soon.

Oh my what a day  I just got a call from Andre at work and the first words out of his mouth are “Promise not to get mad” well you know it can’t be good after that. Andre went driving alone  First thought is he got in an accident or a ticket but praise God he didn’t. He found 2 puppies in the middle of the road. He picked them up and saw a farmer out in a nearby field so he went over to ask if they were his. Well the farmer went on for quite a bit to Andre about how people don’t have any hearts these days and how wicked society is…people come out to this area and dump unwanted litters. How sad is that! Well Andre picked up 2 of them and brought them home. He called my mom first and she told him that she would send my sis (Becky) over to help him bring them to an animal shelter. But then I get the call from Andre…he relays the whole story and throughout the whole convo he is telling me how sweet, adorable, wonderful, cute and cuddly these puppies are. Finally he gets to the end of the convo and says that he is going to tell Becky that she can’t have them and wants to know if I am ok with that. We just have to keep them he says :luv: Well I agreed that we would make a decision when I got home. So he was all excited to tell my sis that she can’t take them…that we might keep them. So I quick asked my boss (my landlord) if it would be ok to have dogs and he said yes…and my other boss overheard me and said that he has a kennel and dog house that he isn’t using…so we can have that! Can you believe this?!?! So anyways I am headed home in a half hour…this is crazy! Andre and my sis brought them over to my mom’s house (she has dog food and stuff) and she says they look like German Sheperds  I will keep you guys posted!

Thank goodness Andre didn't get in an accident or get pulled over! Hopefully, you lectured him on why he shoudln't take the car out alone  Yeah, when they start out the conversation w/ "promise not to get mad" you know you're in trouble  I'm glad it worked out positive for you guys. Now Andre will have something to occupy him while you're at work. What better way to do it than with 2 puppies

Good morning ladies :luv: I hope everyone has a good Tuesday! I'm here at work as usual just waiting for everyone to wake up and come chat with me

Does anyone know how to post multiple posts in a row? I don't like all my posts all together  That is the one thing I do NOT like about this new VJ format. If anyone figures this out, please let me know.
