Now my AOS journey begins :crying: . I have just finally stopped breaking out in hives from the K-1  .
Best wishes to all those that are waiting and all those that have just begun.

Don't worry. It's not THAT bad  And the best part is that at least he's here with you now so you can go through it TOGETHER

She then told us they got approved and off we went. The whole process was painless, yet nerve racking!

Congrats  I don't think they had any private rooms at the old Embassy. At least nobody on here has ever been taken to one!! Must be something new.

Sometimes I wish that I could get 20/20 to do an undercover story on what really goes on in the embassy  I guess I have ALOT of time on my hands and too much imagination.

I think that's a great idea  It's as if they're NOT accountable for anything! There's no rhyme or reason to anything they do or what order they do it in. Are other embassies this bad too?

I'm not working this weekend  Ever since Thanksgiving they have cut way back on the overtime here. I'm getting spoiled  And we have Monday off for MLK day so we have a 3 day weekend. We might go to a comedy club Friday night. We're also supposed to go to the International Auto Show Sat. or Sun. Motorcity Baby!!! Home of the BIG 3 :energetic:

I have to start packing too. We're going to Barbados for 1 week - we leave next Saturday (Jan. 20) B) :goofy:

I am using a 5 dollar card every day. We use it up too. My last bill on IDT was 250 bucks. If we use a 5 dollar card a day for the month it comes to 140 bucks. So this is my method of saving and tracking time. One IDT I can't track my time and we talk for hours.

I used to buy phone cards from a local liquor store to talk to Tony. When I had used up the card I kept it - I thought I might need them later for evidence. After a while I had a HUGE stack of these used up cards at $20 a piece so I got the brilliant idea to add them all up to see how much I spent. I practically cried :crying: I had spent about $700 :o I could have bought a plane ticket and then some and seen him in person!!! And we got a pretty good deal with that card - unfortunately the rates went up and it's not worth it anymore.

IDT was wonderful but I just can't bring myself to paying .25 a minute.....unfortunately Roy only calls to cell phones.

Back to trying to find a good one......

Same here. I don't think Tony calls ANYONE on a land-line. We're trying a new card right now - Mobile Caller - I'll let you know how it is.

Passports:

Well, next month is coming fast and I want to know can I have it renewed ASAP. I never renewed my passport before...

Anna,
Your local post office should have the form you need to fill out to renew it. You need to send in the current (expired) passport along with new pictures (I think) and the fee. Then they will mail you the new passport. I'm not sure how long it takes, but I'm sure for an additional fee you could have it expedited.

Welcome back to the Yardie thread. So, you guys got married and then he decided he didn't want to move here? :o That's crazy!!! What are his reasons? Why did he get married then? I feel so bad for you :(

The Phone card thing I check Rhonda. I get a minute at 6.9 cents. I bought a card for 20 dollars at I Chat and got 292 mintues. Using division and multiplying it comes out right. Tell me if that checks out to be right. There is 0 connection fee and no rounding up after a certian dollar amount. You have had me puzzled all day. hmmmm ???? :)

If you go to the site and click on "I Chat" on the left hand side, THIS is what comes up:

Phone Card Name: I Chat Phone Card Rate Highlights: No Connection Fee calling card.
Super Aggressive Rates To Latin!

Honduras 55 min. Trinidad 118 min.
Dominican 286 min. Haiti 94 min.
El Salvador 157 min. Cell 121 min.
Panama 820 min. Peru 331 min.

Argentina 1360 min. B.A. 2632 min.
Bahamas 421 min. Belize 76 min.
Bolivia 172 min. Brazil 541 min.
Colombia 241 min. Cuba 17 min.
Chile 922 min. Ecuador 112 min.
Guatemala 148 min. Cell 97 min.
Jamaica 244 min. Cell 73 min.
Uruguay 184 min. USA 604 min.
Venezuela 622 min. Caracas 1204 min.

These minutes are for a $20 phone card. I also did it the way you're doing it, click on Jamaica cell and input I Chat and it comes up at 7 cents a minute! It is very confusing.

Sorry I bailed out again. Too many happy people here for my situation. I spent the majority of the 8 months in Jamaica with my wife. I'm about ready to try for the third time, if I can ever get past the madness in Kingston. My wife's 3 years is up. This time it should only be fresh photos and another interview, if we can ever get ahold of someone to reopen the case.

Welcome back stranger :P We're not always THAT happy on here  What happened when you appealed your case? There have been more people on here to get denied for the same reason as you guys who are wondering what their options are. I'm glad her 3 year ban is now up - good luck with the interview. Please keep us posted.

I don't know  I wrote down the info. and everything. It said it was 7 cents for regular calls but when I looked for cell phone calls, I got 27 cents. When you got 292 minutes, are you sure it doesn't use them up quicker if you call cells?

I'm gonna have to go and look at that website again. I know I looked at I Chat because I knew that was the one you mentioned. This whole phone card thing is a pain in the butt. I was happy with IDT until they raised their rates recently <_<

Has anyone had to renew their Jamaican passport since they have been in the states? Roy's doesn't expire for a year (I'm a freak, I know )

Oh boy Mindy - you have me freaking out now  I have NO idea when Tony's passport expires and we're leaving for Barbados in less than 2 weeks!!! What do we do if it's expired??? How long are they good for from the time you get them? Isn't it 10 years? If it is (like our U.S. ones are) he has plenty of time left on it. He just got it right before we started the Visa process.

I was able to print out a form from the SS website, filled it out, sent it in with a copy of the Marriage Certificate and boom -- got a letter in the mail from them about a month later and it was done.

You need to do the same with your Passport. <I believe> you can just go to a Post Office that will accept the Passport Application and do a "change of name." I'm sure they will require your old Passport, new pictures, fee and a copy of the Marriage Certificate. I haven't done this yet but need to.....

**I would make sure that the Marriage Certificates that you send are ORIGINALS. I know that SS required this -- and they sent it back to me with my "letter."

I updated my passport the EASY way. No new pics or fees necessary  I just filled out a form at the post office and sent it in with my old passport and they "amended" it - they just type a little sentence in the back of the passport stating the name change. I've used it since then when leaving the country and it works just fine. My passport is good for 7 more years so I'll do it all then!

As for jayandmars, you're the Jamaican citizen right? You will have to update your passport in Jamaica somehow. Maybe you can do it through the mail? I'm not sure exactly.

Question for the married ladies..Did you change your name when you got married?
I am thinking of not changing mine to avoid the hassle of changing so many documents.

Do you know if Social Security needs to be notified if there is not name change?

I used my maiden name for my new middle name and took Tony's last name. Yes, it's a pain, but it's not hard to change everything - just time consuming!

I found a phone card for 7 cents a minute. It is on the web site http://www.therichcom.com/ and I used the I Chat phone card. IDT was painful at 25 cents a minute pinzoo still painful.

Sounds awesome! Is that rate good for calling cell phones too? A lot of the companies have a seperate (higher) rate for cell phones.

I looked it up and it's not good for calling cell phones. It's 27 cents a minute :o I was bored at work and looked up a bunch of them you guys have recommended. phone-card-pin.com is pretty good - only 16.4 cents a minute. Mobilecaller.com was the cheapest rate at 15 cents a minute. I'm switching to them because everyone Tony calls has a cell # and no home phone. Thank you for whoever recommended this one :luv:

**Disclaimer: these rates are ONLY for calling cell phones in JA. The regular rates are much lower if you're calling a land-line.

I went to a Caribbean night last Friday and two girls tried to pick me up :o Damien could not stop laughing.....boy, was I upset.

If I may ask a personal question, why were you so upset? I would take it as a compliment which I'm sure it was. I have a friend who's a lesbian and I've been to gay bars with her on occasion and if someone hit on me, I just said I'm sorry, I'm straight and that was it.

I'm probably opening a can of worms here, but it may be a very interesting topic!

If I'm not mistaken you can cancel your medical and interview and ask for a reschedule for a later date. If you're not sure about his ganga status then I'd look into doing that then to risk testing positive and being banned for 3 years because of it.

How can you cancel the medical if you're already done it? I've never heard of that  Has anyone ever done this? If you can do it, I would recommend it for the case in question for sure!

Probably not a good idea to chat about someone when said person (me) can actually see what you wrote.

I stand by what I said. I have looked through this site many times and still stand by my previous statements. I did not find this site as useful as others have expressed. Things that were said on here are the opposite of what we experienced.

 You waited THREE months to come back on here and respond to what she said??? I don't think it was meant to be any kind of secret that you weren't supposed to see. It is hard for me to believe (and I'm not the only one) that you did not find this site useful. This is the ONLY site I used through-out my entire process and I got everything right the first time. Im definately doing a pre-nup. But I decided a long time ago that I would do it with ANYONE when and if I ever got married it has nothing to do with Jamaica. What's mine is mine. I worked hard for it. And I would have no problem signing one if someone asked me to. I guess Im just a realist.

I am the same way! I had made up my mind long before I met Tony - whoever I married was gonna sign one  You never know if a relationship is going to work or not - why add even more stress to it if you don't have to? I am all for pre-nups.

Question: I just read some old pages and someone said that their fiance was denied because of past drug(weed) history. Im I stupid or do they really check for ganja? If so we aint getting our visa   If anyone is willing to share I would appreciate it. :help:

YES, YES, YES - they will DEFINATELY do a blood test to check for ganga  Many people have gotten denied for this already and others have gotten denied just for admitting to past drug use even if their test came back negative :o Tell him to stop smoking NOW and don't even hang around people who are smoking and risk getting it second-hand. You will be fine. 6 months worth is a LOT! Me and Tony only KNEW each other for 6 months when we filed :D - some people are less than that. It sounds like you have plenty of "proof". Do you have pics of the two of you? That's a big plus.

Yes, I would definately go if at all possible. YOU are the best "proof of relationship" there is! And yes, they have been known to harass (for lack of a better word!) couples that have a huge age difference. All the more reason for you to attend the interview!

Some of his "favorites" are The Mummy, anything with Jet Li, the Rambo movies, ect... I usually tune them out so I can't think of any more right now.

6 months - that is not bad at all!! What was the most stressful part about it? Waiting? Paperwork?

Ours took about 5 months altogether before he arrived in the U.S. (See our timeline at the bottom) For me, the most stressful part was the stuff that Tony had to do himself down in Jamaica. I am a control freak and hated having to wait on him to get stuff done and there was nothing I could do about it  And they are all on "Jamaican time" down there so NOTHING happens in a timely manner. He will have to get his birth certificate, passport, police records, get the medical dones, etc.... You can do almost all the other paperwork and then just make him sign his parts!

FIANCE VISA OR SPOUSAL VISA?? Which one did you find easier?

With the Fiance Visa, you will have your man here much sooner. You will still have to do a lot of paperwork once he's here, but at least he's living with you and not 2000 miles away! The majority of us on the Yardie thread went with the Fiance Visa.
