K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew to the process
I hate to put a dampener on things but you might be cutting it a bit fine smile.gif We did the same thing - booked everything thinking we had plenty of time...

What we are doing now is having a non-legal ceremony (no license, not signing register etc) and then having a small legal ceremony once we have the visa. It's risky - I might not get into the country (unlikely but all the same - have to be prepared for it :/) but we looked at all our options and decided that it was the best chance we had smile.gif

By all means, if you will lose money by changing the date/cancelling the wedding then consider all your alternatives. You might get lucky but it is defo best to be prepared!

Good luck!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed some advice
I'm not sure if it is the same for all countries (haven't got that far yet!) but I know you can print the forms from online - I also know that some people have used online copies of packet 3 to send to the Embassy. It might also be worth another call to the embassy to see if they can send you out another packet if you explain that the first one has got lost in the post smile.gif

Good luck!!! You're almost there now!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespeople, what do you do?
QUOTE (Alex & Rachel @ Jan 10 2008, 01:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
- Plan and prepare! To be honest if I could fly out tomorrow I probably wouldn't, because I actually still have quite a few things to tie up here first. I'd also like to save money and think about what I'm going to be shipping out with me.

Totally - I have a great excuse in that I want to be here for my mum's 50th at the end of June but the visa not turning up in time for next month is kinda in our favour - it would be a nightmare if I had to suddenly up and leave - guess that's why they give you 6 months to move biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespeople, what do you do?
Planning. I plan everything from visits, trips together, wedding, what our house will look like. I also found making a wedding list on Amazon takes a nice bit of time as well laughing.gif

At first we drowned in each others company online - calling all the time, webcam, instant messaging... Over time we've settled into more of a relaxed routine - we hang out together online or on the phone but not so much - there is a feeling between us that while this communication serves a purpose it is so unfulfilling that we are happy living our own lives and looking forward to the time we can spend together for real smile.gif

Ummm - pretty much what the title says!!

Is there an official source of what the poverty line is? I know my OH has to be earning 125% of it but it would be helpful to know what "it" is!!

Cheers!

LMAO@3!!! That is pretty funny biggrin.gif

Hmmm - I am thinking of collating all the UK interview questions and putting them on my website - maybe I will ask people to PM them to me from the UK interview thread biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFinal checklist before interview
Will do!!! The evidence of the ongoing relationship though - how much stuff do people take? I've been told some people don't even have theirs looked at but I am thinking that a lot of our conversations at the moment are revolving around our impending non-legal wedding - that is surely going to look dodgy so we will have to go careful about what we take!! Sooo annoying!!

Hopefully things will move faster after the influx of July filers prior to the fee increase.

I've been telling myself the same thing for a couple of months now, but I have to admit that the decreased amount of the approvals at CSC during last weeks hasn't been helping to wait sad.gif

Natalia

Heh... they can only get through the July filers if they actually bother to process some of them... seems that they are taking an extended break post-Christmas mad.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat does it say when you are "touched"?
You need to get a free account at http://www.uscis.gov/ then when you log in it will show you the date. If the date changes and you click on your case number to see that your status *hasn't* changed then you have been touched smile.gif

You can but there is no guarantee of entry - you need to make sure you bring proof of ties to your home country which will help smile.gif

Thanks so much for this!!! Of course it makes sense that they have no reason to turn you away than they do any other time but you still hear horror stories and I have been panicking for ages about flying out next month - going through Immigration in Dublin though so I can sit across the Atlantic stress-free!! w00t!!!

Have a lovely time and thank you for thinking of us poor people back here still cacking ourselves about going through immigration!! biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures90 day visitor under 'visa waiver programme'
At the end of the day they can deny entry at any time if they feel you are using the VWP as a means of temporary residency. It's not there to be abused but if you don't mind being potentially turned away when Immigration get a bit annoyed then by all means - give it a go! I know there are people who have gone back and forth like that and managed it for a few times in a row but then were denied entry on like the third or fourth time smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDrat...Foiled Again!... sort of
Can I just say it makes a refreshing change to read someone (trying) to remain positive despite the adversities faced?! I take my hat off to you... or at least I would if I were wearing one wink.gif

And yeah - I think things happen for a reason as well - it is looking like we *could* make our Feb wedding if the Embassy is super-fast but now we are going to wait until the end of June for me to move so I can be home for my mum's 50th and so we can both save more money and better prepare for my move out there smile.gif It does work out better in the long run... smile.gif

I'm going to phrase it that I am visiting my boyfriend for Valentine's day smile.gif It's kinda true and I always refer to Jeremy as my boyfriend rather than fiance anyway - I feel like it sounds a bit pretentious sometimes laughing.gif If they have any questions then they can ask them and I will answer them honestly and hope they let me in... *nervous still*

Yeah - bring strong ties - I am about to take my chances next month but am going to bring a letter from my employer, rental agreement and NOA1/2 to show I am going through the legal procedures smile.gif The other main point is to not offer any information that is not specifically asked for and answer all questions honestly smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2!!! Where is packet 3 mailed?
Yeah - the non-USC will receive packet 3 smile.gif
JeralyFemaleEngland2008-01-17 03:33:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long does an I-129f really take ?
Ahh - that is for naturalization - if you want to become a USC - that won't affect you just yet smile.gif the I-129f (the first part of the K-1 process for me - not sure if it is used in other visas - am pretty certain it is) took me about 6 months all told - that is from the day we sent the petition to the day it was received at NVC and we got our new case number smile.gif

If you are with Vermont they seem to currently be processing (but not always) I-129fs in around 90-100 days - that is I am seeing a lot of approvals from people who have taken that long - again, they may still be playing catch up with some files. If you are with California... well I don't really know what to say! It seems to be just as terrible as it has been since the fee increase last summer so it might take you around 5-6 months... again - this is just my opinion/estimate wink.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisting partner during K1 visa processing?
Just a quick note about the honeymoon - if you go over on the K-1 visa then you will be able to leave the US but you will not be able to re-enter the US without Advance Parole so you will either need to postpone your honeymoon or go somewhere in the US smile.gif If you leave before getting AP then you will have to go through the whole K3/CR1 spousal visa route... not a good plan after waiting for the K-1!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie here - Help please!
I'm still going through - I'm a July filer so got caught in all that backup - it took me 5 months to get my NOA2 and I think my case is now at the embassy (took a month for CSC to send it to NVC).

Seriously don't make any wedding plans until you get the visa or at the very worst have an interview date!! We have had so much hassle trying to backup and make plans because we didn't know any better - if only we had found this place before!!

VSC is MUCH faster at the moment so 120 may be about right - might be a little longer/shorter but it's a good estimate smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie here - Help please!
1. Passport photo. UK standard size is 1.8" x 1.4" instead of the US standard 2"x2" - how much of a problem will this cause me? I know plenty of people who have had no problems with the UK standard, myself included, but we knew no better at the time! It's prolly best to play it safe and get the US ones if you can smile.gif

2. Proof of having met. We have the stamps from his passport over the past couple of years, and the stamp in my passport at Xmas along with a copy of the E-ticket I purchased for my flight. We have multiple photographs, dating back to 2005. I have one of my boarding cards from my trip, but I lost the other. IS this enough? It sounds ok - we sent a whole bunch of stuff so it is prolly better to include all you have - better too much than not enough IMHO. Remember to make a copy of everything and send the copies - keep an identical package with all the originals in for your reference or for if things get lost smile.gif Another thing we didn't do whistling.gif

3. Proof of ongoing relationship. I have my E-ticket for my next trip at the end of February, and I have all of the above. How much information do I need to give at this point? I was never really one for hoarding emails. I may have a couple but they're not anything of a "I love you, I must have you right now" nature. They're just general stuff. Oh and call records, for me to call the US, I dial an access number which lets me call at 1p a minute - so this means the access number shows on my bill, and not his number. If I provide proof that the access number dials the US, will this be ok? This only needs to be covered at interview to show you have been maintaining a relationship while the application was getting processed. Of course we sent everything so... We sent e-mails, screen prints of conversations on instant messenger etc. We'll prolly use the same sort of thing when I go to interview - online conversations, phone bills, photos etc etc

Good luck!!!
