Asia: East and Pacificearly airline ticket purchase?

has anyone done the obvious and purchased a plane ticket early to save a thousand dollars??..i understand you can purchase the ticket now and change the date of flight online..for a fee of course..but how far out can you go with the date?..does this increase the price of the ticket also...thx...

I don't know about changing schedules on a purchased airline ticket, but I know it took Delbros four weeks to deliver my fiancee's visa to her; twice as long as we would have expected and what is normal - and ours was a simple, clear-cut K-1 visa. Glad I didn't buy hers early!

Asia: East and PacificParties and the Filipino Culture
Filipinos like to party! And they know how to have fun at parties...good clean fun! First, kareoke is a requirement at any filipino party. Second, filipino parties are LOUD. Lots of talking and laughing. Third, filipino parties involve lots of food. My wife arrived here 2½ months ago. Through networking on theworldoffilipinas.com, she has met many other here in the states and was introduced to someone in our city who got us involved in the local chapter of filapino/americans; couples just like us. That was last week and we've been to two parties already. I can't say about others, but these parties involved no drinking, smoking or drugs. We have a 5 year old son and he goes with us. Children of all ages are there. I'm not very social or outgoing either but these parties are great! Not all husbands go. I suppose they are the quieter type but filipino women are very close to one another and my wife loves to interact with other filipinas. To me, it's whatever makes her happy.

This is a question for anyone who grew up in the Philippines. I'm surprised at how many times Jinky gets invited to a Birthday Party, a House Blessing, a wedding shower, etc.. Lately, she's been attending one party after another, sometimes 4 or 5 times a week. I realize that Christmas time has also added to the amount of parties, but do most of you also attend that many parties per week?

And for those who are now married and live here in the states, is that something you miss? Has it been a difficult adjustment for you?

My concern is that I'm not that outgoing...I'm not anti-social but if I were being invited that often to social gatherings, I'd decline most of them. So I try to think, what if I were living in the Philippines and we married, would our lifestyle be that way? Will she be content with a more family centered life when she is here? I have two teenage children and she has a 5 year old and between us both working and raising kids, I don't see how we'll have much time for being that social. I don't think that becoming a parent means we stop having a social life, but it certainly changes our priorities.

Can anyone give me some feedback?

Thanks! :star:

Asia: East and PacificManila International Airport
I had my fiancee meet me at the airport too and she handled the communications with the cab driver. But if you want to get one on your own and meet her at the hotel, there is a desk/booth inside the airport that will arrange a taxi for you. That is the safest way to do it. As another said, make sure it is a metered taxi. If it's not, get out and find one that is. There will be lots of taxis there. Some are legitimate; others are looking for naive tourists who don't know any better. Even agreeing on a price beforehand does not guarentee that's all he'll be asking you to pay.

Asia: East and PacificANY CHEAP WAY TO CALL PHILIPPINES OR INDONESIA???
I asked my long distance provider (QWEST) and they offered me unlimited calling for $4/month plus 16 cents/minute to the Philippines. Some calling cards might be cheaper, but you can't beat the convenience and reliability of an established long distance phone provider. Plus I get an itemized list of all calls I've made each month.

Can someone please tell me why you talk via telephone, especially to Asia?

My fiancee goes to an internet cafe and it costs her 50 cents per hour, or 0.8 cents per minute, and we get to look at each other.

Many cafes are not open 24/7 and are subject to power outages.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionco-sponsor's involvement
If there is insufficient evidence, they will notify you in the form of an RFE. Your sister can look at it as like a co-signer on a car loan. If she is certain you (and your fiance) will be able to afford your own expences, she will have nothing to worry about.

can anyone tell me what the co-sponsor needs to do other than the paperwork? will they be contacted directly for any reason? or need to send more information at any time?

I was going to ask my sister to be a co-sponsor just to avoid any problems, but before I do I want to make sure I can explain to her what she's signing on for. Think its reasonable for me to reassure her that she won't need to do anything else?

Thanks!

I've asked this before but never got any answers other than check the guides (which I have done a thousand times).

How do my parents (who are co-sponsoring my fiancee's visa ap) prove their ownership of their two homes? What EXACTLY needs to be provided?

What about stocks and bonds?

Thanks

My mother is also co-sponsoring. I am having her include the deed. She also has sticks, bonds, IRAs etc the bank is giving her statements for. Of course I will make copies of all this for the interview and bring originals(cert.copies) back and return to her.

You should retain copies in case they're lost. Think about it; you would have no evidence in that case......

I have all our chats and emails on disk. I'll make copies of the phone bills. My fiancee has all the greeting cards and snail mails I sent her. If worse comes to worse, perhaps this will be enough? We'll only be out the greeting cards she sent me and the western union receipts.

Do I need to make copies of all this evidence also? As far as I'm concerned, they can keep it all except for the greeting cards.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134

Hello --

I'm filling out my I-134 form, and I have read that certain items must be notarized.
I have notorized the 134 itself. Do I need to notorize my 1040 copies? How about my current W-2? Also, should my latest stock and bond statements be notorized also ?

Thanks...

A notorization only validates the signature on a form comes directly from the person who signed it. Notarization does not certify the content of a document, only validity of signature. Indirectly, that should answer your question.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support

Here is a checklist I made for myself:

AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT CHECKLIST

A) -- Statement from a teller at BECU and Frontier Bank
? Date the Account was opened
? Total Deposited for the Past Year
? Present Balance

B) – Statement from employer (see AffidavitTemplate.doc)
? On Company Letterhead
? Salary Paid
? Whether position is temporary or permanent

C) – Additional Materials
? Copy of Life Insurance which includes the value

I've checked the poverty line critera and made sure the petitioners income is 125% above as stated on the I-134. Does he need to submit pay-stubs? I remember reading somewhere that he needs to submit 3 pay-stubs

Pay stubs are good...the past 3-4 will be enough. Also, W2s and tax forms are good a source for proof of financial stability.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFurther Processing Questions

Hello friends,

I just got an email from NVC stating that my case has been forwarded to the Embassy in India for further processing. I guess I on the fast track now. Anyway, I need some help gathering the documents I will be required to send my fiance over in India. I made a list with the help of the 'Guides' section and just wanted to double check with you all just in case I am missing something.

Here is the list:

- Copy of the Original I-129F petition.

- A letter from my fiance and I still affirming our desire to marry.

- I-134 with the supporting pay stubs, letter from HR etc. etc.

- Do I need to send additional pictures? If yes, will it be for both of us.

- Copy of the NOA2? I don't have the NOA2 yet. I think it has been lost. I have emails from NVC, that's it.

- Copies of the latest phone bills, my airline boarding pass (Last visit to India in Feb, 06).

What else will I need?

Thanks again for all your help!

- Vishrit

Your fiancee will also need to provide evidence of an ongoing relationship. If you have any mail or chats etc. you can send her, this will help.

need the copy certified of the Birth certificate of the american fiance(e)as well? Because
today I got Package 3 but it looks unclear how they mention it.

Thanks again to all who helps me!!!!

I sent my fiancee a total copy of our I-129F packet to provide the consulate at her interview. Your fiance's birth certificate should be in the copy of the I-129F packet he sends you.

Certified copy of birth certificate is necessary. It does not need to be notorized. Notorization is affirmation of the signature and person signing it.

Hello,

The foreign consulate will not want to keep these, will they?

If perfect teeth were a requirement, there would be many more denials. It is not even a consideration.

Dental costs are very low there so you may want to consider going ahead and getting the cavities fixed. It won't cost very much.

You got that right. I'm pretty sure I paid for our dentist's new car and a vacation. LOL I say wait until they get here, since all the work my wife had done there had to be done over.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCosponsor?

Hi guys,

I'm just looking for some advice regarding the financial side of things. When I get my NOA2, I understand I need to show that I'm able to support my fiance. I'm able to do so and my salary itself is high enough, but the problem is that I am a recent college graduate and just began work in July. Therefore... I have very few payment stubs and my bank account isn't exactly huge yet. Would it be safer for me to have my father cosponsor my fiance, or will they just judge based on the fact that my monthly income is high enough?

Thanks for the input,
Emily

I was in the same boat. Graduated college and only been working 4 months when I sent in the I-129F petition. No employment the previous 2 years. Included a letter from my employer stating salary, full-time status, and position. Included what pay stubs I had. Included my mother and all pertinent info as co-sponsor. The consulate did not even look at the co-sponsor information. Visa was granted.

Exactly. Get the new passport and let it go at that. IF a question arises, simply explain the situation.

Hi Everyone

Does my Fiancee has to do medical and criminal background check again, she did all that when she got package 3 & 4 and even receive a interview date before IMBRA hit.

I would like to know if any of you have that happen to you, I am hoping the embassy will pick up where they have left off sending her an interview date.

She shouldn't have to. We had not yet received out NOA2 when IMBRA became affective and my fiancee had no problems at all. My understanding is those petitions submitted before the IMBRA came into being, would not be affected by it.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEvidence of Relationship...

Hi All,

I am write in the middle (or maybe closer to the beginning) of the K1 process; we've already submitted the I-129F and don't foresee (fingers crossed!) any problems with it. I am slightly concerned about the interview, however, as my fiance and I can't really document our communication. He's not a computer person at all, so we rarely chat or email each other. We are lucky enough that we get to speak on the phone almost every day, but we use phone cards and skype to do this, so no records.

My question is this: What kind of evidence should I be trying to gather for the interview in light of this? I know it's going to be quite a while, but I figure it's best to get started ASAP rather than risk not being able to find what we need.

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Snail mail letters are considered valid evidence also. Remember, the evidence required is of an ongoing relationship - not of communication.

Hello everyone. I am hoping that all is going well for everyone in your visa process. I am gathering up everything that I need. But I have a couple of questions. Is 3 years tax returns required? Once I gather these returns are they only needed for the interview or do I send them somewhere prior to the interview? I would greatly appreciate someone answering my question. Thank you and Good Luck to all!

Three years is plenty.(I sent only one). Be sure to photo copy them so you can keep the originals in case Manila asks to keep a copy. Send them to your fiancee and she will take them to the interview with her. I put sticky notes on which were copies and which were origninals so my fiancee had no questions as to which to allow Manila to have.
