Does your fiance have a friend that lives there or relative? There was a VJ'er a few years ago that lived in Ontario, and had an Uncle living in Surrey. He put in a change of address to his Uncle's house, and requested a change of Consulate. He had his Uncle open any correspondence. After he he was given his interview date. He flew out to Vancouver, stayed with his Uncle, while he attended this interview, got his visa, then went back to Ontario. I believe he was unemployed at the time, so was able to keep up the facade of living in Surrey. I don't think there was anything "illegal" about what he did.

Unfortunately, he doesn't. His family is all in Southern Ontario. sad.gif Not to mention that he's got a pretty decent job -- though he keeps joking about going to Montreal and applying to work at the Consulate. "Maybe I could interview myself!" Heh... silly man.

My other hated favorite... "It will happen, just be patient."

I haven't gotten that one so much yet... but I know it's coming. I sit and listen to my brother and his friends go on about their girlfriends and how they only get to see them every few days, and I'm like "Okay, but remember this: there's always someone out there that has it a lot worse than you do." and that usually gets them to be quiet, lol. (in defense, my brother and his friends are all 18 and fresh out of high school, lol)

On a random note: Visa agression is best dealt with by owning Hordies in WoW. My pvp has gotten considerably better since I filed. biggrin.gif kicking.gif

I'm almost glad I'm going to face my all time fear of flying to go to the interview... whenever that may be. Then they will see what this whole process has done to me, because I doubt I'll walk out of there without sheading any tears. I cannot count the number of times I've said a silent prayer in thanks for finding this forum. At least here I can vent my frustrations and sadness, and people will actually GET me instead of being like "Oh well, just be strong" or the other "favorite" --- "I know how you feel." UH NO YOU DONT. (well, at least no one that's said that to me knows...)

Sigh. sad.gif

Part of me is wishing I could get my fiance to move out west so his consulate could be in Vancouver. Are the US consulates in Canada like the Service Centers are here in the States -- where you HAVE to go through the one that's "closest" to you (or, in the States' case, the one your state is assigned to)????

I haven't even gotten NOA2 yet, and I'm already worried that my projected wedding date is going to go up in smoke. sad.gif I feel horrible for those that have been waiting longer, too... :/

Yes, you have to go to the consulate that is closest to you. What is your projected wedding date? Mine went up in smoke, as did Danu's.

July 31st, 2010. We have a backup date of October 10th, 2010... but who knows now... sad.gif

CanadaAt Least Immigration is Dumb on Both Sides of the Border Lol
Aww, such a bad experience; I'm so sorry! Glad you were able to get through, though.

As for experiences... I've crossed in Detroit twice (on a bus) so I can't really say. My fiance pretty much refuses to drive through Detroit, so we cross at Sarnia/Port Huron, and we've never really had too many issues. We've gotten the same nearly bald-headed guy quite a number of times going into the States -- his favorite (and usually ONLY) question is "Do you have any food?", so we came to the conclusion that the poor guy is just hungry. We crossed pretty late one night, and we think that the guard was testing our alertness, because he goes "Didn't you get denied entry a few weeks ago?" Both of our heads snapped up like "WUT?!" because we had been in Canada for several months... and thus, couldn't have been denied entry to either country 'a few weeks ago'. We've been pulled in for "additional questioning" 3 times - 2 times going into the States, and once going to Canada (my student visa -- that doesn't really count lol). The first time getting pulled in was my fault -- I tossed a blanket over into the backseat, and it looked like we were hiding something (we weren't), so we assumed that was it. The second time was random. The guard even said so -- "Well, everything checks out, and as much as I'd like to say have a nice day, you've been randomly selected for additional questioning. Sorry. Please pull ahead." and he genuinely looked sorry, and we quickly knew why. We stood there for 2 hours for them to ask Matt "When are you planning to return to Canada?"... Yes. that was it. :x

I always get so nervous at the borders, even though I have nothing to be worried of. We're both good people and we don't lie... but it's still enough to put me on edge, lol.

... Sorry for typing so much.. whistling.gif

Yeah, you should be able to do your medical in Vancouver, as others have said.

Also -

Aboard the H.M.S Immigration, there are many other boats in which you could be tossed into. Ours would be the H.M.S. Sorry to hijack your topic, but I have my own car question that is somewhat along the same lines:

What if he's driving down, but then his parents are taking his car(which is technically in his dad's name) back up with them when they come down for the wedding? I mean, we aren't terribly sure how he's entering yet, and he's not bringing a lot (his clothing and his computer, and that's about it, to be honest) so I suppose he could fly, but we're just not sure at this point because we don't know much of the details.

And if you do have to import it, how do you go about importing a used car? I would assume we'd still have to go through Ford to get the letter, right? (I'm almost hoping he'll just fly down here because we have my car, and it's better than his, lol)

I hope that my getting on an airplane is good proof of a relationship (I seriously wouldn't do that for just anyone, or anyone at all up until now...) ... but in case it's not, I will make sure we're as organized as we can be, with lots and lots of evidence!

CanadaFunny things to declare over the US/Canada border...
Here ya go, and these are my two favorites...

Going into the States: Timbits. AND they knocked the box over when they searched our vehicle, so there were Timbits all over the floorboard in the back. !D:
Going into Canada: .. We got weird looks for the 20-30 bottles of Vitamin Water we brought up into Canada once. The guy raised an eyebrow, and I said "Wut. Canada doesn't sell it yet and I love my Vitamin Water." He laughed and said "Well okay then. Have a nice day!" and hey, three weeks later, guess what I found at Shoppers? biggrin.gif

Usually, that's all we have because we usually stop right before the border and dispose of our meal bags. Oh, and if I'm going to Canada for an extended period of time, there is ALWAYS a case of Cherry Pepsi in the back because seriously... Canada lacks it... or at least Ontario does. Boooo. lol biggrin.gif

I'm a bit confused over this post. unsure.gif They do international text messaging and you can opt for the per-text billing..... I think it's 35 cents per message or something. I don't recall there being a restriction on non-domestic texts. Maybe that's a new thing.

Okay, there's an international texting package that you pay $9.99 for, and it gives you 100 text messages. With this package, you're paying roughly $0.09 a text message to Canada. Without the package, you pay $0.25 a text message, but there isn't a restriction. Should you get the package, every text past 100 will charge the standard $0.25 rate. There's no restriction on the number of texts, in general, just on how many you can get for the cheaper rate if you get the package. Does that make any sense?

That's why I just use the program I recommended with my iPhone. However, I know that not everyone has one, so the package is an option if you're willing to spend the extra cash.

You'd think they'd allow some type of unlimited international texting package... sad.gif I keep hoping they will someday, since my fiance texts all of his friends, and he'll likely just be added to my package when he moves down here. Silly AT&T...

Canada to US isn't considered international on any provider in the US and Canada that I have seen. I used Bell in Canada and he had verizon in the US and all txts were included on both our plans as part of the unlimited txt msging. Telus doesn't charge extra either....nor does At&t. I don't think any of them do.

Both AT&T and Verizon consider calls and texts to Canada "international", or at least they bill you that way.

That they do. It's like the only thing I hate about having AT&T sad.gif Everything else has been so wonderful!

CanadaUS to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?
I've used....

US Cellular: They didn't charge me for texting Canada, and it was $0.19 a minute for phone calls. This was a few years ago, but I think it's roughly the same. On a side note, I never had issues with their customer service; always super friendly and helpful!

T-Mobile: When I moved back from Canada after schooling, I switched to T-mobile. This was the WORST. DECISION. EVER. Their text messaging didn't cost to send to Canada, but I couldn't call Canada (even with the plan) and their customer service SUCKED.

AT&T: I switched AT&T a few months ago after getting sick of T-Mobile, as well as wanting an iPhone. The only thing I don't like about AT&T is the lack of international text messaging. I cannot see spending an extra $10 a month for only 100 texts when I spend $20 and get unlimited within the US. This is the only company I know of that doesn't include Canada in the domestic long distance, as far as text messages go. Calling Canada is $0.25 a month, or you can get a package for $4.99 (I think) and then it's like $0.09 a minute. AT&T does have AMAZING customer service, and I love everything except what I listed previously.

IF you go with an iPhone/AT&T, however, the best app I can recommend is Unlimited SMS. It's $2.99 to buy (at least when I got it) but that is what I use to text my fiance, and it's never failed on me; uses wifi OR 3G and they are continuously adding things that are making it the best out there. I give this app 5 stars. biggrin.gif

I dont know if this helps at all, but I'm hoping it does. smile.gif

And I have to say that 2009 was an awesome year, concert wise -- I saw No Doubt & Paramore @ the ACC, and then hit up Edgefest @ Downsview Park a few days later, so I got to see Metric, Alexisonfire, Billy Talent, etc.. etc. What a muddy day that was... but it rocked. biggrin.gif (I haven't seen many concerts in my life. Oh so sheltered I was up until a few years ago...)

CanadaWho is still waiting for NOA2?
QUOTE (Amanda2020 @ Nov 10 2009, 02:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello

Thought Id ask who is still waiting for NOA2? I filed with Vermont in Sept and still waiting for mine, the times show 5 months now so we expect around January or so. Anyone else?

To be honest, you should be getting yours a bit sooner than January. VSC has been churning out approvals left, right and center, and a lot of the September filers have gotten their NOA2, and some even have their interview dates already (though none from Canada, to my knowledge). Hopefully you'll hear something soon!

Here's the thread for all of the September filers: http://www.visajourn...howtopic=215960
(I think there's a main one for VSC, too. biggrin.gif)

It's not so much the entry date, etc.... it's that I'm wanting to spend summer vacation up there, which would require him coming and getting me -- which he wouldn't be able to do if we had an earlier date, and I'm also wanting to go to the interview with him, and don't finish with school until the second week of May. I know going with him isn't a requirement, but it's a moral support thing. I really, really don't want to fly, and if they schedule it sooner, I'll have to simply to make it back in time for school -- be it actual school or finals. :x

Hi,

For the I-864, which you will use for AOS, they want proof that the sponsor can support the immigrant and their own family at 125% of the poverty guidelines. If that can be accomplished by showing employment earnings, then no need to include any asset information.

You can ask to be rescheduled but you are playing with fire, at least 2 on here had to wait several months to be rescheduled in Montreal, plus they are so backed up - it's just a not great idea.

wacko.gif I think if they give us an earlier date, we will just take it and I'll figure out how to get up there! LOL. I'm not waiting! Thanks for the advice!!! smile.gif

And seeing as I can't edit my post above, I have yet another question:

If they give us an interview date of, oh say, March or April, could we ask them for a date in late May or June instead? I plan on going, but I can't make it up there until the middle of May, but I didn't know if they would be willing to schedule it later if we asked. If things go well (and how we want them to...), we're hoping for a late May/June interview, and then he would just POE when he brings me home in August, and his parents will take his car back to Canada when they come down for the wedding....

Thank you, thank you! To save from going insane with the search function again:

For a co-sponsor, what do they need to provide? I have the instructions for the form, but the family member we've chosen likes having all the nitty gritty details before they sign anything (understandably...), and I know that while this one isn't legally binding, the one for AOS is, and we're probably going to be using the same person for AOS, etc, etc. Do they have to provide for every part of the income listing part - like the income, assets, etc, or can it just be here or there to get up to the comfort zone? Also, for my form, should I put in the fact that I "make money" on financial aid every semester? I know it doesn't count officially, but it would show something instead of making me look like I just sit at home and do nothing... wacko.gif

Why can't this all just be easy? :/

Okay, so we got approved yesterday. I've done some searching, but haven't really come up with anything (despite knowing there was a post somewhere that had this stuff in it...) so I thought I'd ask again, even if it sounds a bit like a broken record. I'm sorry. unsure.gif

1) We already know he has to send for his long form BC, and his police check -- we're assuming the police check will be okay to file for in January, even though we don't have an interview date yet. Is this correct?
2) What else should we gather now? I also know we need a ####### ton of passport pictures and such...
3) When it comes to Affidavit of Support, and I know this is a long shot, but does Montreal only allow USC co-sponsors, or could we use a Canadian one? (Like say, his parents, or even his own income, since he's lucky enough to have a job, and I've been looking - to no avail - since I moved back from schooling up there.. wacko.gif )

Thank you, in advance, for answering! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL holiday season!!!!!! good.gif
