it took me 5 months from noa2 to my interview, but they are catching up on that now. It shouldnt tske a full year but count on about 7-8 months from your NOA1.

That's what I've been planning on, and that's the high end. It's just enough to drive me batty, though, lol.

I try and make things easy for everyone involved in this wedding planning process. Our projected wedding date has changed roughly 6 times now to accommodate his parents. For anyone else, I'd tell them to go eff themselves, but these are his parents, and his parents have been nothing but wonderful to me.

We finally settled on July 31st... then realized how backlogged Montreal was. Still hopeful, we planned a secondary date of October 10th. It's a Sunday, but leaves quirkiness into the date (10/10/10), and it's also a holiday weekend in Canada. I'm fairly certain we'll have the visa by then... but what if we get it sooner? So I start rethinking again -- and then realize that my photographer is booked on July 31st. I don't want any other photographer, so that day is now null and void. October 10th is viable (his family isn't that large, and not all of them are going to make it down here I dont think..) but GRRRRRRR.

I know that most of this probably makes little to no sense, but I need to ramble. October 10th is so far away, but maybe I should just go with it on a hope and a prayer that we have his visa by then.... sad.gif Montreal's not that backlogged that it would take almost a year to get it ... right? wacko.gif

Hmmm...are you sure it has? I don't think the are moving it to Las Vegas, maybe Los Angelos, but they would have to pay all their employees to go to LV for 2 days. I'll check with my honey when he gets home, but I seriously doubt its actually going to be there. People rumor that every year.

Unless someone booked the LVCC under "Blizzcon 2010" as a joke (which I doubt), you can confirm it by going to the LVCC website and looking up the dates. It's there.

A few rants for the evening hours...

1) A friend was supposed to come and hang out tonight. This is a friend I haven't seen since I drove her home from the airport about a year ago(due to work and school and stuff). She's neither called, nor showed. I've been ditched, me thinks.
2) Here is one for my fellow WoW-nerds: After we watched Blizzcon 2009 online, Matt and I decided we were going to go to 2010's convention NO MATTER WHAT. Well....Blizzcon 2010 hasn't been -officially- announced, but the Las Vegas Convention Center(which is infinitely larger than the Anaheim Convention Center) has been booked for it. For July 30-31st, 2010. Which just so happens to be Matt and I's wedding weekend. (hopefully) Thanks, Blizz. Really. (though the amount of jokes being flung back and forth that we should move the wedding to Blizzcon and have Metzen marry us is proving to be very amusing...)
3) I tried to order a movie from my On Demand service, only to find out that it's down for some unknown reason.

Tonight just sucks. sad.gif

Things have been so crazy! Trying to get all the finalized paper work together, plus my birthday was last Thursday so we all went out for a big dinner. I can't believe we're leaving for Montreal next Friday.

On that subject....

Anyone have any restaurant recommendations? Any sites that are an absolute "must see"??

I just want to say that I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY TO BE BACK IN CANADA!! We got in at about 10:45 or so last night. Port Huron was a ghost town, and it was the easiest crossing I've ever had. So we're driving along the 401, and I see the one sign I've been waiting for: Tim Horton's! Sure, there's Timmy's in the States, but it's not the same. We pull in, and order (they apparently didn't hear my fiance say he wanted a coffee.. ) and once we got our order, I sort of looked like this:

Screw the triforce. Link has obtained Timbits. :D

I'm staying away from that movie, too. Stuff like that scares the bejeebus out of me.. :(

Completely OT... but I'm feeling very ... "home" sick, as of late, despite the fact that I'm the USC. I want it to be May, and I want to be in Canada again. I miss it so much that I sit and look at the street view of my fiance's city on google maps a lot. Pathetic, I know... but I literally think this is more than just missing my fiance; I miss the whole darned place. :(

Bleh.. been trying to get my room finished (all organized and stuff) for the last month. It's driving me batty, but I have SO much stuff that it's crazy. I just got a new computer, too, so I'm all happy about that.

How weird is it that all the shipping/postal things are now closed on Saturdays? I tried to ship a present off to Matt (early VDay present, hehe) and everything was closed today! USPS, UPS... geez! LOL.
frenzyheartFemaleCanada2010-01-30 23:53:00
CanadaDoes SSA office matter?
I don't think they'll have to worry about name changes; the foreigner is male and the USC is female. Otherwise, that sounds about right, from what I've heard.

I'm not hinting or anything but you need to upgrade and get another iphone so you can play words with friends with me. Not that I'm addicted LOL

Aww I sorry. I meant to post it in the September thread whenever they came out with it for you and Maggie but I spazzed out and forgot.

Naaah, it's okay. It wouldn't have mattered anyways. I left for Canada back in April, haha. Thank you anyways, though. (I seriously cannot wait to upgrade my phone in September though...hahah)

Just wanted to also say good luck! I live in Sarnia so if you need directions to anything (like Starbucks or Timmy's, haha) let me know!

Nah, we don't. We're only in Sarnia long enough to cross. It's where we usually cross at anyways, haha.

The good news is though: We're leaving TWO days earlier! YAAAAY!!!! :D So instead of Thursday, we leave Tuesday. I can't begin to explain how excited I am. I miss home. :( A LOT!!!

You'll be fine. I brought a bunch of loose leaf tea with me (didn't even mention it, and they didn't look), and well, we all know loose leaf tea can sometimes look like... uh... something else.

haha, yeah, that's what I was worried about them thinking, even though the one that's loose is in pouches and in a canister and smells like vanilla...

I guess you never know these days, though.. lol

CanadaPOEing soon...
I hope someone sees this because I have another question:

When I got here in April, I found the flavor of tea that I like to drink down in the States (it can be bought down there, too, obviously -- it's from Starbucks) so I bought a whole bunch of it, thinking I'd be done with it by now. Well, I'm not, lol. I've checked the BP website, and I don't see anything about not being able to bring tea across the border, just stuff like meat, dairy, etc. It's all sealed tea (teabags are in sealed packages, I mean), so there'd be no way for them to think that it's something else... I'd just hate to have to get rid of it, because I can't find that specific flavor down there... if that makes sense... LOL.
frenzyheartFemaleCanada2010-07-29 07:36:00
CanadaPOEing soon...
Thanks for all the advice. :) I'm pretty calm about the whole thing. Not sure if I'll make any lists because it will be pretty clear what we have packed -- LITERALLY. We're using clear plastic tubs for just about everything and there's only going to be like 4 tubs, what little furniture he's bringing and our computers, and that's about it, lol. :D

CanadaPOEing soon...
So I've been reading through the POE stuff/reviews for Sarnia/Port Huron, and some mention paperwork fees (or something like that) but some don't, so I figured I'd just ask anyways, just to play it safe. We're driving a not very full at all Uhaul, so no car paperwork. (if they do search the truck, they might laugh at the lack of things in the back - a few pieces of furniture and a couple boxes. Too much for a car/trailer, yet definitely not enough for a 10" truck.. sigh.)

Anything else I should know/do/etc? :D

CanadaPOE Tomorrow!

Wow almost 3 hours at the border? Where did you cross?

Glad to hear you made it back home! We've been having ridiculous thunderstorms here in CO the last couple weeks, so maybe we're passing it on!

We crossed at Sarnia/Port Huron. Most of it was waiting; we got there around rush hour, so it was pretty packed. Once we got to the counter, it sped up even though the guy was having a couple issues with his computer, haha.

CanadaPOE Tomorrow!
Yeah, the drive took a lot longer than usual, especially when we got pulled over by Illinois State Police for improper lane usage at like 3 or 4 am. I think the exhaustion was getting to him, and he crossed over the white line a few times. Let us off with a warning, thankfully. Other than that, lots of thunderstorms and flooding once we got to Iowa. Glad to be home, but the humidity STINKS! lol

POE was uneventful. Waited about 45 minutes to get to the booth, then another 2 hours inside for the whole process. They didn't look in our U-haul at all. :)

Dude, me too! I haven't posted about something important in the Sept09 thread yet, but there has been some big changes with our wedding, too. It's still the same day, but we aren't getting married in Iowa, lol...

CanadaPOE Tomorrow!
Well, tomorrow is the big day! I've packed everything and realized we had a LOT more than I thought, but it's okay, because I have pretty detailed lists of what's in the boxes, along with serial numbers if I could find them. I'm just curious as to who I give the list to - the guy at the booth or the guy we talk to inside? EEEK. Kinda nervous but strangely relaxed at the same time!

CanadaPerfect Timing!

Like my fiance said to me the other day, "we've already hit the home run, now we're just going over the bases. Maybe we'll trip a little, but we'll make it to the plate soon enough."

That is, by far, the greatest quote ever. Your fiance wins for having the amazing ability to mix mushy sentiment with baseball. Congrats on your POE! :)

CanadaK-1 May interviews Montreal !!!!

Hi! So I received my 3rd packet and returned it to the consulate....is there a way of tracking the process now online??

Nope! All you can do is sit back and wait. Check out others around that have sent theirs back around the same time as you, and when you start noticing that they're getting interview dates, you can probably bet that you'll get one soon. You're also welcome to call DOS and they'll ask you for information about your case, but I wouldn't recommend doing that for awhile.

I haven't posted because I haven't heard anything, no response to emails or inquiries from the senator, NOTHING. Going on 9 weeks now. DoS just says "still processing" every time I call.

Aww, hun. I'm so sorry. I was really hoping that we hadn't heard anything from you because you were busy moving and all that. I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for you. Ahh, mmkay. Thanks for the tips. :D

But GRRRR at Royal Bank right now! We've never really contacted them when we're going on vacation, because we haven't needed to. They never gave him any problems ALL the times he's gone to the States, even the first time! No, no. They choose while we're in Montreal to shut his card off, and of course, there's no bank branch open on Sunday. And of course, they didn't bother to call him and tell him that they killed his card. Oy. Luckily, we have my account, so I called and told them I'm in Montreal so they won't shut my card off, and then we transferred the money to my account and voila. Crisis somewhat averted. lol.

I'm experiencing such a huge amount of culture shock, haha. A lot more than I thought I would.

As for the dreary, I think it was mostly because of the fact that it was raining. When Matthew and I woke up yesterday, his dad came down and told us that it was supposed to be "Sunny alllll the way to Montreal! No signs of rain at all!" It was cloudy the whole way and the moment we entered Quebec, it started raining. LOL. That's okay, though; it was peaceful.

I'm trying to decide what time to set the alarm for tomorrow morning. I know I'll be up before he will be, lol. We're going to walk to the embassy today, to gauge our timing, so we'll probably be out the door super early. I want to be first in line, and as of right now, I haven't a clue where to stand by the building. LOL.
