K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2009 K-1 Visa Filers

Everyone cross your fingers, toes, and your friends fingers and toes for me today. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna need y'all to just go ahead and find a crossing buddy and cross yourselves together for me.

Do you have your crossing buddy????? ;)

I literally just walked over to Matt, crossed his fingers and his arms and then walked away. I think he's confused now. :D

(My Matt, I mean, obviously. LOL. Too many Matts! )

YAY MAGGIE!!! :) And I've still got all my fingers and toes crossed for you, Kayla!

As far as the employment issues go this way? Yeah, it went from bad to worse yesterday. He sent a message to his boss asking if there was any work, and his boss said "If there is, it'll be in a few weeks."!!! A few weeks puts us AT the interview. We needed to save up money to even get there, let alone everything else for it!!! After an afternoon where we both pretty much resigned to the fact that we were pretty much on the last step of the journey and had to give up, I suddenly remembered he had a bit in stocks left over from a few years ago. We fished up one of his more recent statements, and it'll be JUST enough to help us out. Crisis (somewhat) averted!

I can't take much more of this emotional roller coaster!!! I just want this to be done with!!!
(Though, due to the money issues, we may be POEing sooner than August, just so that I can go back and get going on that job. Just means we'll have to get married sooner... which isn't something I think I want to complain about lol)

rofl..men

Yeah, can't live with them, can't live without them. Haha. We were racing around at 11 PM trying to figure out what to do because we both forgot the passport pictures for his medical. He ended up going in there and saying that he forgot them. The lady was nice and told him that he could just go get them after the appointment and bring them back, so it worked out.

Now if this whole issue with his employment would work out (ie: he would actually start working), then things will slowly de-stress around here. I hate seasonal employment sometimes. I mean, he technically works there year-round, but it's whether they actually get sales that decides whether they actually work or not. His boss told him that they didn't have enough to put 4 trucks on the road, so Matt's the one sitting out for now. We're pretty sure that it's because he's leaving in August (despite his boss saying otherwise...), but this kind of puts the screws to just about everything. He's looking for a second job, so hopefully that will turn up something. :(

*FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!* I hope he can get it, Kayla!!!!

My Matt just finished up his medical and is heading back to Burlington as I type this. He ended up staying up all night last night because he couldn't sleep, so he's exhausted. I'm exhausted because I was running around all night trying to figure out where all of his paperwork is. Luckily, I have a full copy of P3, because he managed to lose 5 pages of it. :bonk: Everything is now safe in my multicolored folder and I know it won't be lost now, lol!

Awww, Kayla! I really hope you get it soon! :( I keep my fingers crossed for you whenever our mailman shows up in hopes that his will bring his visa to him!

I just got back from getting my grandfather's signature on the I-134 form. We have all the stuff we need (with the exception of the medical exam, that is.) and ... wow. It's like this huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now the anxious month wait until our interview!!! (Maybe I should use that time to catch up on my schoolwork, since the two teachers I have left after dropping Philosophy both stated that they'd work with me. I have 3 papers for Composition II to do! )

Oh ok. I have no problem with people who chose that route, my cousin did and she has no regrets. I just wonder how do you stay faithful to your vow, temptation is strong...

It can be, but it's something we've both discussed in great length, actually, and since the beginning (almost 5 years ago) we both decided that we just wanted to wait.

Since you put it out there I hope you don't mind me asking. Holding out until the wedding? If so that's great!

Yup. I get so many weird looks *surprisingly enough* but I am nearly 26 and still a virgin. Hell, we both are, to be completely honest. But you know, though, it was a decision I made at 13, and it's one of the things I'm the most proud of when I look back at my life. I'm fairly vocal about it, too, but not to the point where it's like "OMG you did it before marriage!? SHAME!" because the way I see it, to each their own. I'm not about to judge someone because of that, nor do I look down on those who do.

Congrats on the approval!!! Trust me, I'm ecstatic, too! I'm hoping that all the paperwork will be together when we go over there tonight, but I know that we'll have it before the interview no matter what. So far, I gotta say I'm enjoying being with him, again, too. I don't really think it's set in yet that ... this is it; I don't have to say goodbye to him again. I'll be with him here until Sunday, and then in Canada until his POE's in August.

I sorta feel like I'm dreaming, to be honest.

Really exciting to hear about possible babies, too! I'm rather immune to the baby dust, at least for now...

BOO, KAYLA! I'm glad it's at least been printed, though!! THEY JUST NEED TO GET THAT PUPPY IN THE MAIL NOW!!!

In my own bit of happy news: Matt's on his way right now! He had ZERO problems at the border, and apparently, the border guard was very pleased to see that he only had 1 bag with him. Apparently, people have been trying to move before they are supposed to lately! Tsk tsk! He gave her the interview date letter and NOA2 and she wished us both luck on our interview and sent him on his way. He goes "That was the easiest border crossing into the States I've ever had!" Just a little over 8 hours and he'll be here! :D!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA-2... too early?!?!?!

Hi everyone, my fiance and I sent the I-129F in mid-February because we read that it was taking around 5 months to get the NOA2. I am currently in Mexico doing social service in order to get my MD degree late July... After looking at some timelines, we started freaking out since we might get approved before July... The problem is I am not able to go to an interview before July because of the social service..

My question is, once you get the NOA2 for how long can you delay the interview???

Thanks a lot! :D

CanadaK-1 May interviews Montreal !!!!

Is there anyone else that is flying into Montreal in May for their fiance's interview? I have started looking at tickets and it seems the cheapest was about $430 U.S. dollars. Anybody else finding better prices?

Nothing from here. I don't fly, lol. We're driving the 6 hours from Burlington to Montreal. Should be interesting :D (Though he did try to get me to fly from Toronto to Montreal so we could attempt to get me over my fear of flying...)

So are you going up to Canada in advance of the interview since 21 days sure won't get you to the May dates from today?

Yeah, I'm heading up there on April 17th. We need a few paychecks between him coming to get me and our interview date to save some money. He works in lawn care, but they also do Christmas lighting, so things have been pretty slow the last couple of weeks, paycheck wise, as they transition from the Christmas lighting to the actual lawn care. We just want to make sure we have everything taken care of. Luckily, his parents loaned us the money to book the hotel room early so now it's just paying them back and then having money for Montreal. We're both really looking forward to it, and we're making a whole weekend of it, too. :)

Frenzy I just noticed your wedding date, did you guys choose that day on purpose? lol..

Yup! We're actually going to theme our whole wedding around it, sort of. We're doing a play on binary code, since we're both tech dorks. Our colors are black, white and silver, and I'm still working on our invitations, but those won't have the "binary" theme. We just found it really funny that everything in our relationship since we filed has been done (almost) in increments of 10 - we filed on 9/11 (which adds up to 20), approved 100 days from filing, etc, etc.. So far, the only thing that hasn't been a '10' is our NOA1 to Interview date, which is 245, but oh well, lol. :D

I am so glad you finally got out of Administrative Processing! May to August is crazy! Enjoy getting your wedding planned and all the things that go with it. Glad to hear you got into the U.S. safely! Goodluck.

Here's the hilarious thing - She went through AP, and they are STILL getting married before Matthew and I. I'm the last of the May interviews to get married, and the last of the September 2009 filers to get married.

... Yes, I am going crazy over it right now, but all in good time. 10 is our lucky number, after all. :) 10/10/10 at 10 (well, hopefully at 10. still waiting for the venue in Niagara Falls to get back to us about switching the time from 3 to 10...)

Congratulations, again, Bev. Welcome home! <3

CanadaToronto Medical Vaccination Record for AOS
Update from us: We decided not to risk it, so we started calling around to the CS in our area. Most places wanted $200 or more, because they "don't do just the transcribing" and he "had to have another medical". RIDICULOUS! Luckily, one of the places he called will do it for $10, and his appointment is in 2 weeks. PHEW.

CanadaToronto Medical Vaccination Record for AOS
Alrighty, so my husband and I were finally married on October 10th, and we're getting things together for AOS. I was looking through all of our paperwork, and I'm curious about the "Vaccination Documentation Medical Worksheet Two" (title of the form) that he received from Dr. Seidan's. Nowhere on it states that it is the DS-3025 that we're supposed to include, so I'm just wondering if this is it, or if we need to take this somewhere else and have it transcribed. He's 100% current on any and all shots he needs for immigration, and this form appears to be filled out with dates and/or "not age appropriate", but I definitely do NOT want a RFE. We also have his shot record booklet thing that's been filled out completely, too. I'm hoping that those who have gone through Dr. Seidan's will know which form I'm talking about and be able to answer...

Thank you in advance! <3

Is your wedding the legal one or ceremonial, frenzyheart?

Ceremonial! I've been planning my wedding since February, so it'll just be a matter of buying all the stuff. Besides, my mom planned her wedding in about two months, so between her and I, we'll be good. Once we get the interview date, I'll start buying stuff. The fact that it's so far in into next year, the only thing that will throw it all off is if they take a long time to give us the interview date, but even then, I think I have it all covered! smile.gif *fingers crossed*

CanadaMy own tax question!
The thing I'm running into is that I don't need to file anything since I didn't really make anything. I obviously paid the taxes, but on my W2, my Fed Income Tax Withheld is 0, so my mother (who does my taxes when I actually need to) said I didn't have to file. I just didn't know if HE had to file here since I don't have to.

I know that his filing up in Canada will actually get him something in return(he made a lot more money than I did, lol), and he obviously didn't work after we were married, so I don't know/think he'd have to file married? I guess I could leave that up to his dad to find out, haha.

Thank you for your response! It was helpful! :D
frenzyheartFemaleCanada2011-01-29 13:36:00
CanadaMy own tax question!
Okay. I did a thorough search and turned up situations that were close to mine, but didn't quite answer. I've searched the IRS website, and I'm still a little lost.

i worked from Sept to Dec last year, and I paid everything into the government, but I probably won't have to file because I'm not getting anything back. (I didn't make a lot of money, it was EXTREME part time seasonal work, and my federal tax witheld on my W2 is 0, lol) My husband moved down here in August. We are sending off his AOS packet in a few weeks, so he's not eligible for work here. He DID work in Canada last year, up until he moved. His dad usually does his taxes for him. Will he need to file here in the US even though he's not a resident yet? I saw many conflicting things, like if he made under a certain amount he didn't have to, or if he worked in a certain area or something.

I'm not really good at all this tax stuff, and maybe someone else worded it differently and had the same situation, but I couldn't find it. Hopefully someone can help! Thanks in advance! :)

CanadaGetting your driver's license in iowa

Wow, smart!
Just one question: how do you now get your Canadian license back? Do you report it stolen, or do you report that you illegally yet totally voluntarily surrendered it to a foreign authority?

Okay, I really don't appreciate the sarcasm. I've seen quite a few posts asking about license converting between the US and Canada, and I was simply trying to help by posting that any Canadians moving to Iowa aren't subject to the driving/knowledge tests, and they get the equivalent of what they had in Canada... you know... AN EXCHANGE.

That said, we still have his actual license card, but he obviously doesn't intend to use that down here in the US.
frenzyheartFemaleCanada2011-05-31 17:06:00
CanadaGetting your driver's license in iowa
Hopefully this post is okay! I've been meaning to post this for awhile! I figured I'd give any future incoming Canadians a heads up on getting your driver's license in Iowa (since it's absolutely nowhere on Iowa DOT website; we found out when we went in!)

All you have to do is go in and they will exchange your license for the US equivalent. My husband had his full license from Ontario, and they gave him his full license here - no driving test or knowledge test. We took in a his old license (which they just put a hole in - he's just glad they didn't take it because he thinks it looks cool, lol), a piece of mail with his name on it and our address (we used a bank statement from January, as well as NOA1 from our AOS application... just to play it safe), his passport and his SSN. We're pretty certain we had too much documentation, but always better to have more than enough than not enough! We were in an out of the DOT (in Ankeny) in less than 45 minutes, and he got his license in the mail within 2 weeks.

Apparently, Canada is one of two countries that we do this with, but we didn't find out what the other country is.

Hope this helps anyone else in the future! :)

CanadaBlizzcon 2011
My husband and I had planned to go last year -- up until they released the dates, and it turned out that it was 2 weeks after our wedding. So we made a pact that we would go this year -- and if they had only moved the ticket dates to the beginning of June, we would have been going. SUCKS. We're hoping to go next year now, and settling for the live stream yet again. It's okay, though. We're both still SUPER excited because we just buy a whole bunch of food and drinks and just veg out the whole weekend, haha.

I hope you have fun!

since it is your aunt filling out the form, she is sponsoring the beneficiary. so it's her relationship to the Canadian.

and usually yes it's 3 years.

Okay, guys & gals, really quick questions!

On the I-134, number 3, where it asks "Relationship to Sponsor" - in regards to a co-sponsor (which would be my Aunt), what would she put? His relationship to me (fiance), or his relationship to her (er.. future nephew?? lol)??

And it's 3 years of tax returns for Montreal, correct?

Just wanted to say that Im so very excited that my packet 3 was logged in today.

We are now officially waiting for an interview. Posted Image

Exactly 6 months after sending our petition.

That means ours should be logged, too, since we sent ours in a few weeks before yours.

I feel a little weird, though. Did anyone else not spend all their time calling DOS? I haven't called once during this whole process (NVC, DOS, etc..) I guess I feel if I call it'll just drive me batty waiting for it, and there's enough going on to drive me batty right now. I do hope for an interview date, soon, though. I'm just trying to focus on school and getting ready for another summer in Canada. God, I can't wait until May...

Okay, so I'm a little curious now. How do they feel about the USC calling to inquire about P3 being logged and such? Have any of you other USC's done it? Fiance is so busy lately, and I'm kind of just sitting here stewing over it all the time, so I figured I'd do the calling (yay free calls to Canada!) and the inquiring, if possible, though I did plan to wait a couple weeks, hehe.

Inquiring minds want to know!! :)
