CanadaImporting possessions after POE

I usually cross L/Q unless there's ridonkulous traffic. As I have to drive east from Buffalo, the Peace Bridge is out of the way, and there's discount gasoline at Smoking Joes about 5 miles down NY-31 just this side of the L/Q that I usually stop at.

Yvonne bought a 2009 LTZ -- lots of tricks and features in it; she did a good job picking it out. :)

I'm slightly confused on all this now. So my wife and I are going to do our POE tomorrow afternoon, but we are only bringing her car and the stuff she can fit in her car. So for this crossing do we not need to fill out any forms for the goods she is bringing now? She went ahead and filled out the 3299 form for when her dad is going to be bringing all her stuff down in a few months, but there is no form then for when we cross tomorrow?

thanks and sorry for the confusion.
JaJo08MaleCanada2010-05-07 14:58:00
Canadahow detailed does the border declaration form need to be at POE?
When you crossed the border with all your stuff, how detailed was your customs form? Did you inventory every single box and item? Or was it more general such as 1 box of clothes, 2 boxes kitchenware, 1 box office supplies? Just curious what others did.

thanks!

Canadahelp on filling out form 3299 declaration for free entry of unaccompanied articles
My wife and I drove over the border on May 8th and now her father will be driving her goods down next month.

We are filling out the form 3299 which is what I was told we needed her father to bring with him and her goods when he crosses the border.

http://forms.cbp.gov...p_form_3299.pdf

My understanding is we need to give him the forms as well as a copy of her visa and I-551 stamped in her passport and that should be all he needs.

The form is a bit misleading compared to the other forms so I wanted to make sure we fill this out correctly for her father as we don't want him getting hung up at the border.

Part I.

#6-I assume since we drove over the border (as opposed to arriving by air) we just put "via personal vehicle"

#7-since she crossed the border with me, then would we put my name in there?

#8- A, B, and C? is this for this entry? I'm assuming this would be if we had imported these goods before so we would leave this blank?

Part II.

#10- Do we check both A1 and C1? Is she considered a 'non-resident' or a 'resident' by this form?

Part IV.

A, B, and C
Again here, do we check A1 and B8 I assume?

D is the list, we are good here.

That's it for now, hopefully this isn't too complicated....and as always really appreciate the help!

CanadaUhaul and other moving suggestions
Thanks for all the responses. I think the trailer may be the way to go. I just check the ABF site and called to get a quote and for 6 linear feet it costs $1750 from Edmonton to Denver or $1850 for 8 linear feet, so we are back near the 2 grand range going that way. Not sure why it's only $850 to salt lake from Edmonton when Denver isn't that much further. Renting a Uhaul here and taking it all the way there is just as much as it's by the mile and I can't find a place locally that does "no mileage". At .79/mile, and 1,400 miles each way, I'm back to exactly $2,000. Thanks again, time to downsize.....

CanadaUhaul and other moving suggestions
Okay, so we are looking at trailers/trucks now for the move down to most likely take place in late April. We have our interview 4/15 and so are getting the truck rented to haul the wifes car and goods down.

So far, every place we have checked is a minimum of $2000 to go from Edmonton to Denver, Colorado. That seems outrageous to me that to rent a small truck and a trailer to pull the car costs that much! When I moved my stuff from Denver to Los Angeles a few years ago a Uhaul was onlyl $350 and then I had to pay for the gas of course, but 2 grand?? I feel like we could buy a small truck for that much and then sell it when we get here. Curious what other people did and if you found a cheaper alternative?

Also, on another note just to confirm that to bring the car over, all we needed was the letter from the manufacturer stating that it was suitable for the US correct? I forget the term, but we did obtain the letter from the car manufacturer, but that's all we needed right?

thanks again for all your help everyone!

At what point does my wife need the passport photos then?

I sent my (scanned) pictures with the DS-230 yes.gif

Here's a list of what I put in, as listed on my cover letter:

- Document Cover Sheet (with barcode)
- Form DS-3032, signed
- Form DS-230 (4 pages) and Complementary Information (2 pages), signed
Supporting documents:
o Marriage certificate
o Police certificate
o 2 Passport size photos
o Passport biographic page
o Birth certificate, front and back, original (Copie d’acte de naissance) and translation

and then I wrote: "Scanned copies of documents submitted are exact copies of unaltered documents and I understand that I will be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer at a later date."

Good luck!

Excellent! So you included the 3032 with the 230 email? Interesting, I thought this was to be submitted first before you could even begin the 864 or the 230.

My suggestion would be, if your income is sufficient, that there is no need to send an employment letter. Take that extra stuff to the interview if it will make you feel more comfortable - the I-864 only requires the 1 tax return.

Whoops, sorry, my bad- was giving GUZ-specific info about that I-864. sad.gif

Turn that frown upside down laughing.gif

Appreciate the help everyone! I think I may just go with the one year of returns and even skip the employment letter since it's not even necessary.

So for the DS-230 form, I assume everyone scanned the original copies of the marriage cert, passport bio page, police certificate, and birth certificate and this is adequate since it's all electronic.

At what point does my wife need the passport photos then? I remember asking her to get 4 of them, and other than the one we sent in with the I-130, when else do we submit them? Do we bring them to the interview?

Oh and Congrats COBound! You'll love living in Colorado!

We started the EP process and are regretting it now. Every email we have sent the NVC has gotten held up in their third party email router for a minimum of 2 weeks until it is forwarded to the NVC.

I agree with one of the previous posts: EP stands for 'Ever Pissed' mad.gif

Your timeline looks about right for the NVC at this point. There is no way to get through the NVC in 2 weeks now. Its just another hurdle to overcome in the process.

Okay, so my wife submitted the OPTIN email to NVC Montreal on Oct 27th along with the DS-3032 scanned and signed by her naming me as the agent. I paid the $70 AOS bill online a few days prior and it shows "PAID" as of now.

We have NOT received the confirmation back from NVC stating that we have opted in for EP. I did call NVC and give both of our emails to an operator last Thursday.

Based on what I've read here thus far, can we go ahead and submit the I-864 along with the printed "PAID" AOS fee now even though we haven't received the confirmation optin email back from NVC?

Then once we send that in, we wait for the IV Fee to be invoiced, pay it, wait for it to show as "PAID", then print that sheet off and submit with the I-230 package correct?

is this all right? Thanks for your help VJ'ers!

J

I emailed the I-864 package as soon as it showed paid. I did not wait for the confirmation email. It takes about 2 - 3 weeks for them to accept this package. Either way you choose to do it, send it immediately, or wait for the confirmation email is up to you. I don't think either way is incorrect. But note, there is a size limit when you send in your emails.

QUOTE
When most people submit the I-864, do they actually include 3 years worth of tax returns? That's an awful lot to scan in specially since mine are 20-30 pages each year! It says one year is sufficient, but 3 may be submitted if one believes it will help qualify. I have rental properties as well, but don't really know if I want to go through the hassle of listing all of those assets, my yearly income alone is more than enough above the 125% level to qualify me. Don't want to fill out more than is necessary you know.

I included 3 years worth of returns. But you are not required to do so. If your returns are that big, I would only include one and see if they RFE you for more evidence. If you are not using assets as proof, then use the 864EZ form and send in at least 6 months of paystubs...

Yea, the latter part sounds about right.. but you might want to wait till you get an email for the OPTIN to be applied since that has the potential to cause problems. Mine took about 2 weeks to come aswell, during which I got impatient and sent the I864. After a couple of days later, I got the OPTIN confirm email from them, and the lady had said ''they might just delete your stuff because on their system it doesn't show that youre enrolled in the EP".

Oh and remember whenever you are submitting documents, the same rules apply as if you were submitting them by paper (Cover sheet, contents page etc.)

Thanks for the response!

Good to know! Thanks Darnell. Another quick question, when we send the email to OPTIN, does the 3032 need to be attached to it, or can we send that separately in another email? Also, when sending things in the future, do you always have to put OPTIN in the subject line or how do you know what to put?

thanks! Your wiki page is very informative as well!

When you guys are sending in the forms electronically, the DS-3032, I-864, DS-230, do you have to scan some barcode as in as well for the top of the form?

I'm still deciding whether or not to OPTIN and do this electronically, I have an NVC case number, and the AOS fee was generated and I paid it online and it's still listed as "in progress".

For the DS-3032, if I have my wife fill it out, and send it in with the OPTIN email, the form says it needs some barcode at the top, how did everyone here handle that piece or did you just ignore it?

thanks!

Help me decide between two hotels: Sofitel vs Square Phillips. Prices are about the same...difference is negligible.

Sofitel Golden Mile

- 4-star
- internet surcharge
- fluffy down quilts & bed
- modern small room
- marble bathroom
- ranks #18 on tripadvisor

Square Phillips

- 3-star
- complimentary continental breakfast
- free wi-fi
- big rooms (suites in fact) with kitchen
- hard beds
- ranks #3 on tripadvisor

Anyone who been there have any reviews?

Wow, the W Hotel right on Victoria Square is running a great deal for those of you staying longer in April. We are going 4/11-4/15 and it's a rate at $116/night or basically stay 3 nights get the 4th free on hotels.com. I was going to book the Dauphin based on everything here, but the difference was only $8/night so why not?

Process was pretty painless, no RFE's from the very beginning with the CR1 and all the way through to the IR1. Took about 6 months and we submitted the bare bones for evidence. Joint bank accounts, tax returns, and Drivers licenses with same address. Other than that, we just did the required paperwork.

My fiancee comes from CDO, I am apprehensive about how the new system will work, that is why I would rather set the appointment for Jan 18 now under the old system and pay before the 30th at BDO. I had my fiancee last week go to a BPI branch to inquire about the paperwork she needed to pay for the appointment after Dec 1, and they told her that they did not know what she was talking about, that she should go to BDO. You would think that BPI would be training for the transition. That is why I am apprehensive.

where do you live in the Philippines ?

Meg actually went to the main office of 2GO in Cagayan De Oro, and retrieved her package from there. At the time, she did not have identification with her, but the cleck noticed that she was wearing her college ring. He asked to see the ring, and Meg's name was inside the ring. He was then able to give her the package.

My suggestion to you is to find out where the main office of 2GO is in your area. Go there and see if your package is there. If that is not feasible go to the nearest office of 2GO, and start your shearch from there.

That is the best I can think of.

Bulon,

I had that exact same plan when Meg would arrive here maybe in March, but quickly changed my plans upon visiting the local social security office here in Arvada, Colorado. What they told me is that if you get married before you get your social security card, you will lose your K-1 status, and you will have to wait 8 months until your AOS is complete. I know it sounds silly, but every Social Security office in every state interperts the parameters for this rule differently.

I would do some leg work before you plan your wedding in Las vegas and make sure you will be able to get your SSAN as soon as you get married. I would not advise you on getting married before you secure your social security card, you can do it but you may have to wait to get your SSAN.

By the way, Meg passed her interview yesterday, and we plan on her arriving in Las Vegas in mid March. We will wait 2 weeks and get her social security card, then fly to Vegas to get married.

Br Good, and Good Luck !

The $820 price I found was with China airlines. If you fly into LAX they have a arrival at about 1130am so you have plenty of time to get east bound flights and there isnt a long layover in Tapei. Cost $645 w taxes.
From there she goes into Denver then Kansas City for $174 or directly to KC for another $65.00.
All of these prices I found. I havent booked because her visa was just approved on the 18th. I prefer to go to the Airlines website directly. Remember travel websites dont all have access to every airlines booking so you could be missing out on a better flight with lower cost. I flew China airlines in May and found them to be wonderful. Good food, courtious attendants, personal TV with free on demand movie library. I have no complaints.

Are citizens in the US allowed to book flights for a Filipina in the Philippines. I read somewhere where we could not book a one way ticket out of Manila to the United States. I could be wrong, or maybe it was something I read on Philippine Airline Website. So, can we book the flight and pay with a credit card here in the United States for our Filipina to come here ?

The misspelling of Meg's name appears on an x-ray that was taken at a doctor's office during a check-up that Meg had in 2009, not at SLMCEC. They say in SLMCEC that if you have an existing x-ray, that you should bring it so they can compare it to the one that they will take during your physical. Since she is flying from Mindanao, and does not have 3 days extra, we will not bring the old x-ray.

Hi I have a question, my parents already has an interview schedule and I've read here you need to fill this form in this website: http://www.ustraveld...ppointment.html

To enter document delivery address. Do they have to do this before they go to their medical? They haven't got any schedule for medical but we are planning to have them fly 2 weeks from now to have their medical at St Lukes.

Now, I have my parents try to enter their info on that website to put their delivery address since they already have the interview schedule but we can't seem to proceed. It always gets stuck on the Application Validity Page, it won't accept the password we put on there. What gives?

Anyone having the same problem? Or is it just us? When we put in a password it will give us this red asterisk (invalid message): Posted Image

Anyone who could shed some light for us, we really appreciate it.

It is dated December 3, and she received it on December 9.

Our NOA2 Notice Date was October 28, 2010, and our Letter from NVC was dated November 3, 2010.

To me it seemed that USEM scaled back their participation in K-1 production the last 10 days of November to get ready for their transition to the new system.

When I called the Immigrant Section of the Embassy to ask if my file was entered into the system on November 12, she sais it was not, but the electronic file was there, the woman also said that the embassy was aware of the problems that were ahead, and were willing to extend the NOA2 time period of four months if the cases required it. They would be very lenient in that respect.

Meg paid her MRV Fee on December 6, and I made her appointment 9 hours later.

Patience People !

Idaho,

Are CC statements not really needed ?

I have almost no savings because of a divorce that I had to deal with earlier in the year.

That scares me a little.

But my salary and investments are in extremely good shape.

Still you think I should leave the CC Statements out ?

Thanks
