IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurescan u submit the AOS and DS230 the same time?
You can only send them the forms once they've generated them. You'll find out when you call their automated system or if you paid online you should also be able to print them out. But if neither one of these is completed, you should never send them anything ahead of time.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshow long does it take before they approved ds230?
I'm confused by your question because you're asking how long does it take for the NVC to approve the DS-230 but your timeline says that your case already left the NVC. So your entire case has already been completed.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCalled to get an IIN, weird response
You have to keep calling until an NVC rep gives you the IIN. Once you get it, you will be able to pay for your AOS and IV bills online. Once the web site shows both bills as PAID, you should be able to print the I-864 and DS-230 coversheets. Many people here have done it successfully since the online payment option started back in April.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC timeline on IR-1/CR1 visas

I believe thats true. What I am not sure is NVC updating the status again, once it processes DS230 and doesn't find any issues, Does the system changes again and says "NVC Completed this case on xxxxxxxx ??? Similarly what is the message when case is transferred to local embassy?

NVC just entered my DS230 in their system on Aug 15th.

The NVC's automated system will say that your case has been completed. I don't know how long it takes for them to forward it to the Islamabad embassy. You can call them each week to find out.

I would call again next week to see when they'll put it in their system. You will probably get a letter saying they are missing the payment but you can just disregard it.

That's probably because we are using James' shortcuts. As soon as the NVC's automated message says the AOS bill has been generated, you can follow the shortcuts and send it in, no need to wait for it.

So, do you have to talk to an agent to find out if they've generated the IV bill? I know you have to talk to one to find out about the AoS, but I don't care about finding about that since I'm a step behind on the DS-230 track anyway....no sense in rushing the AoS in :(

Not sure who you asked this question, but I will answer it anyway. I just called the automated message system and found out about IV Fee Bill generation. Yes, AOS (I-864) is the only package you have to talk to rep to find out if it has been generated or not. Good Luck

Well... that's what I thought until today. I've already talked to 3 different people at the NVC and they don't have a specific date on when the DS-230 is generated. They only say the instructins on how to dowload it were "supposed" to have been mailed "the week of". That's why the automated system doesn't say that it has been generated. So, now I can't use James' shortcuts because I don't have the exact date they mailed out the DS-230. IF they did because it's not guarranteed that they did so.

Ishaque,

You need to go to the National Visa Center forum. There you will find a pinned post (at the very top) that's called Timesavers... then go to pages 10 & 11 and read the shortcuts that you can use for the CR1/IR1 visa once you get to the NVC. You'll find them to be very useful even if you choose not to use the shortcuts.

Do you have room to add the dates on when the actual I-864 packet is sent back to the NVC, as well as the IV bill? Those are the two things that I'm trying to keep track of when looking at other people's timelines but it's a bit tough.

BTW, jediknight used James' shortcuts as well.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAnything else needed by me?
So you already sent the DS-230 with the stuff they asked you to send? I wasn't sure since it's not listed on your timeline. If you did, then you should hear from the in about two weeks, either if it's an RFE or a case completed auto message at their number.

I'm not sure how soon they schedule appointments with the US embassy in Tokyo, but for most they make the appointments on the second week of the month for the following month. See if you can find other members going through Tokyo for CR1 visas and ask them. But if it works like most embassies, and there are no RFEs, you should be able to have an interview while you're there with her.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPreparing for interview and need some help/advice.
We were also puzzled by this and did not want to go through the hassle of getting additional original documents. But we did make copies of everything before we sent them to the NVC and that's what we took to the embassy with us. Once we got there, the embassy had everything we had sent the NVC with the DS-230 and I-864 so there was not need to bring all that stuff.

If you have copies, you should be ok.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresprocessing fee bill
Hello Cory,

Since the NVC received your Choice of Agent, they will now send you the visa fee bill which is the $400 one. The $70 is for the AOS which you should be receiving shortly. If you don't want to pay and generate these bills and forms online, you can just wait for the NVC to send them to you and you can pay them using a cashier's check or money order. You can also follow James' shortcuts to generate your own forms and not have to wait for the NVC to send them. It's all up to you.

Once the NVC receives any payment, it takes them about 2 weeks to generate the forms and mail them to you. Did you mail it with signature required at the time of delivery? Because once they sign for it you will know for sure that they did receive the payment.

It depends though. Did you send the DS-230 with the required documents before the NVC they had generated it? If so, you will have to resend the DS-230 packet. If not, then you're fine and your case should be completed within 2-3 weeks.

It varies depending on the service center and even the time of year. Some times it can take as little as a week and others it can take up to 7 weeks.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F faster that I-130.?
K3 visas are faster for some embassies not all. While the process at the USCIS is pretty much the same, some embassies will process K3 visas faster than CR1/IR1 visas. You will need to do more research on this and see if the US Embassy in Tokyo takes longer to process CR1/IR1 visas than K3. If not, then stay with your I-130 for the IR1 visa because if your wife comes to the US with a K3 visa, she will have to file for AOS which can take a minimum of 6 months to process and she will also have to get a work permit if she wants to work before her green card is approved. On top of that, you will have to pay an extra $1,010 for her AOS. If you stay with the I-130 alone, she will be given an IR1 visa since you've been married for more than 2 years and her 10 year green card will arrive in the mail a few weeks after she gets to the US.

But like I said, try to do more research on this because if the embassy in Tokyo takes forever and a day to process CR1/IR1 visas, then the K3 is the way to go.

One last thing, a K3 visa holder does not have to wait two years to leave and enter the US.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling I129F, will it help? or will it hurt?
Even if you file an I-129F in Vermont for a K3 visa it does not mean they will speed up the process and approve both petitions. The only time when the I-129F makes a difference during a the spousal visa process is if appointments at a particular embassy will take less time than CR1 visas, for example like in the Dominican Republic. Otherwise, the time both petitions spend at the USCIS is pretty much the same.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam
I'm not sure about Brazil but in Colombia the beneficiaries have to have a lab test done before going to their medical exam. At the exam they will check that they have all the needed shots which are varicella, TD and MMR. If they don't have them, they will give them to them, and they will take their weight and height. The one doctor who happens to be a male has all their patients undress, wear a robe and then he quickly checks their "privates", we're thinking to see if they're male or female. If not, then he's just a perv.

But that's pretty much it.

Call the NVC and find out when they stopped making appointments with the embassies. I know they work on this the first two week of each month so they probably stopped making appointments on the 11th. If they did, they will make your appointment during the first two weeks of August for a September interview.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMissing one paper to send in DS-230
I'm assuming you're going for a CR1/IR1 visa since you're asking your question in this forum. You will need the actual Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales or the NVC won't complete your case and won't make your appointment with the embassy. If you send the DS-230 without it or with a photocopy of it, you will receive an RFE requesting the original and that will delay your case even further. Just tell your spouse to get another one and wait for it so you can send it with the DS-230 because like I said, they won't complete your case without it and it'll just sit there until you send it.

They will most likely have every piece of document you sent the NVC with the I-864 and DS-230. However, things may get misplaced, or lost and you never know what else, so it's a good idea to make copies of what you've sent them just in case they're missing something the day of the interview.
