K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
if I understand correctly, that was meant as "don't overstay your Visa" since Canada is a part of the Visa Waiver Program. Correct me if I'm wrong though

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
Thanks so much everyone this helps me a lot. He left to go back to Denver this morning and I miss him so much already :crying:
The more I get to see him the better between now and (hopefully) our approval

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
Wow thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it.
One last question: do I have to tell them at the POE that I'm in the process of applying for the K-1?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
Oh good!
I wonder where I got the idea that I couldn't lol.

I'd only likely be going for a week at a time by air so no danger of overstaying the 6 months

What would be considered sufficient proof of ties? And would I have to tell customs anything about the K-1?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
I'm from Canada and my USC fiance is in Denver. For some reason I have it stuck in my head that I can't go visit him in the US while my I-129F is processing ( as in I'm not legally allowed to enter the US ).
Thinking back I have no idea where I got this from, but I would like to know if it's correct or not, because it is easier for me to visit him as he's in college and I'm not.
Thanks much :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWho's actually processing my K-1 Petition?
I think I'll be tracking your two (is that proper grammar? Eh? Oh well) timelines as well because fiance sent in our 129 on Thursday, and it was Rec'd in Nebraska this morning at 6 am. Good luck to you both for speedy processing!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOooh this isn't a good sign already lol
Well ####### we just sent the thing in on Thursday and already I'm obsessive about checking email and bank accounts... I checked the tracking number compulsively every 5 minutes until it was delivered... It's going to be a real problem when I get a reciept number and can check for touches

No notification yet, I'm guessing the NOA1 wont come until substantially after the petition has been transferred from NSC to CSC. Hopefully they hired some temps at CSC and we can get things moving along for everyone!

*Passes out champagne and party hats*

Hang in there everyone!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHere we go again!!!
I'm sitting here giggling about the "Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler" comment.

I'm not gonna even pretend I know what half of you are going through, as my 129F was mailed like, an hour ago, but I will say it has me worried because it will be going to CSC via Nebraska, and by the sound of it I'll be sitting here twiddling my thumbs (read: ripping my hair out) come February

I know it's still early I'm just a chronic worrier and I'm sure this will be the death of me by the end of it.
For all of you who are still waiting from April and March, my heart goes out to you and I hope you are all approved as fast as possible (L)
For all of us who have filed recently, lets hope things start to speed up a little

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew here
I'm half expecting an RFE because I don't think that the USC birth certificate was a state one... I'm pretty sure it was from the hospital, and I read in the RFE thread that was an issue, so there's one possibility. I will agree though... coming from Canada I don't need a passport to enter the US so there was no point whatsoever in photocopying mine... I showed them the passport at the border, they looked at it and waved me through. Coming from Germany though they may want to see your entry stamps. If that is what they ask for remember to photocopy -all- of the pages of your passport.

Welcome and good luck :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurescrossing borders while 129F is being processed.
If you search the forums there's a bunch of threads on this (I know because I made one  )
But basically the answer is yes.
Your USC Fiance is certainly able to visit you and you are able to visit him/her...
BUT
Both of you (more importantly the alien fiance) must take proof of your ties to your home country with you to the Port of Entry (PoE)

A letter from your employer stating you are expected back on XX-XX-XXXX date
A rental agreement
Etc.

If the Customs & Border Patrol officer decides you don't have enough proof of your intent to return to your own country they can and will deny you entry. Hope this helps!

Eh this has me worried because although we did send pictures and itineraries, ticket stubs and hotel reciepts, I sent a lot of proof of relationship stuff because I hadn't been on VJ long when I sent it :(

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI feel like crying. Guh.
Yikes what happened to this thread?
IMHO, all Cass was trying to do was rant a little to make herself feel better. It wasn't a personal attack on VSCers. No one from CSC hates you, we envy you that's all. Dont take everything so seriously even when we get a little jealous. We're all still very happy when you get approved, we just wish we could sneak some of our petitions in there :D

No, I haven't, nor has Cass, been waiting that long yet. Who knows, maybe CSC will clean up their act and start approving people in three months again. But until that happens, even though we haven't been waiting long yet, the reportedly long wait ahead of us is depressing to contemplate. Yup it sucks @$$. Nope, it wont be the worst thing in the world we have to endure by far. Yup, in the scheme of things 6-8 months isn't all that long, but its because its these (past for all the IMBRA filers) (future, for all those who filed recently) 6-8 months, they stand out more in our heads than stuff we haven't experienced yet, or stuff in the distant past. OR stuff we haven't experienced happening around the world.
Hell I bit*h and whine to my roommate on a daily basis about how much my "life sucks, I hate this, I'm going to be waiting so lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng (really whiny tone of voice)" Is it really that dramatic? No, but it makes me feel a little better just to get it out.

Life wont be roses after the approval. There's still the expenses associated with interviewing, medicals, moving, AOS, biometrics, etc. etc. etc. Then there's expenses for living while the new USC looks for work. Insurance. A Vehicle? House? Children? It will be tough the whole way until things settle and you begin to establish yourselves. Some people will have it easier and some harder, some through poor planning and others through luck and still others through no discernable fault of their own.

I dont get where all this snappy BS came from honestly. These forums are meant to be a source of support where people can vent when this idiotic process bothers them, not where other members will rip their face off when they disagree with something being said. If you have a difference of opinion by all means spit it out, but don't toss personal attacks at people. If you wouldn't say it to their face in that tone of voice, dont type it out like that either.

Let the flaming begin

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI feel like crying. Guh.
I also get that sinking depressed feeling when I watch people getting approved in a month. It's pretty ugly; jealousy and anger, even though I am glad those people can move on with their lives.

Cass, also in hindsight I must have been really lucky when I went down to Denver to see Rob in April because bringing proof didn't occur to me. I didn't really know about having to. I live in Winnipeg and right after my University grad he flew up here one way so we could drive back to Denver (20 hr trip, it was horrible lol) and stay with him until the beginning of August. When we hit the border the officer at the window looked at my passport and his Birth Cert, then sent us to the garage to have the car searched. I had 3 months of stuff in my car... clothes, golf clubs etc. I really got lucky I think.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAugust filers...

You bet, ready4ONE. I'm definitely encouraged for the moment. I don't think this hoard of approvals is going to last long. The $500 million appropriation that USCIS received five years ago to reduce their backlog (HAHAHAHA! Yeah, THAT was money well spent...NOT!!) runs out at the end of this month (fiscal year). I suspect that what we've been seeing is a huge push to make things look as good as possible before the money is completely gone. There is no more appropriation money in sight. Between now and January, a whole slew of contract workers will be leaving USCIS permanently, as I understand it. I'm guessing that slowdowns must lie ahead. Hopefully they can get as many of us pushed through as possible while the contract workers are still on board.

Here's to a lot of speedy approvals!!

Wow that just thoroughly depressed me.

It's getting my hopes up that's for sure, but I don't know if that's a good thing considering there's still a good chance it could drag on for another 4 months! So I'm hoping.. but trying not to hope too much or get too excited... even though it's hard because wow are things ever looking up.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHear-say question :D
I apologise if I'm not posting this in the correct forum.
A while back when we were getting ready to file I recall reading that sometimes couples come under scrutiny if the "address your fiancee intends to reside at" is the same as oh say, his parents.
This is the case for us currently because my fiance isn't planning to move out until I'm in the country. We just recently found a rental that will be ready and waiting for us whenever we get approved.

So I figure there's no need to change his address from his parents' because he's still living there while in school (he's 24, will graduate in spring) but will we have to explain anything to CIS or file for an address change later on? I'd be happy if we could leave the address the same (have his parents watch the mail) until processing is complete, then change the address after that.

Any advice?
Thankee kindly!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSomething Concrete, Finally
Keep your chin up, looks like since you filed in May this is your IMBRA RFE. If that's the case, you're still in better shape than (sadly) quite a few other people. On the optimistic side this means your case is moving along. Get the info sent back asap after the RFE arrives in the mail. In all likelihood, you could wind up getting an approval shortly after your RFE is recieved... this seems to be a trend lately.
Good luck! Try not to dwell on the negative side of it! Your case is moving along
