You can follow the NVC process by reading the EZGuideSpouse shortcuts.

You can't send the DS-230 if the IV fee bill is not paid. So pay that online first and then print out the DS-230 and send it to the NVC with all the necessary documents. If you already paid the AOS fee bill then you can send the I-864 and documents to the NVC. If not, then you need to pay it first.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhen does the Conditional Green Card comes?
The SSA office needs to wait for the USCIS to enter your husband's info in the system before they can issue him his SSN. It can take the USCIS about 2-7 weeks to enter his information in the system, so wait a few weeks and if you still haven't received his card, call them to find out where they are in the process. As for his SSN, wait an additional week after he receives his green card, if he doesn't get it, go in there in person and file for a number. That's what we ended up doing since my husband's SS card never arrived in the mail even though we had checked the box in his DS-230.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresJust a clarification about translations

Hey all!
do you guys know, if the translations need to be done by an "official" translator? I need to have a police certificate translated into English (certificate is from France hence in French), and as I have studied French and lived in France for a while I should be proficient enough to do it - at least in my own opinion :D - however not a certified translator, will it be enough if I translate it myself? *wow what a long sentence, sorry!*

The transcript itself is empty since I don't have a criminal record in France, but still the few phrases need to be translated I guess... Can I just add on the translation sheet a statement saying that I am competent to translate and the translation is accurate, sign it and date it and it will be good enough?

thank you so much for your help!! And good luck with your journeys!!
-eve

The only documents that need a translation are the ones not in English or in the official language of the country. In your case, the only translation you will need is for the document that is written in French. Any person who is proficient in both languages can do the translation and certify it with the statement below. So if you understand both languages, meaning French and the language you will be translating it into, then you can certify it yourself.

Translator’s Certification

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduressubmitting additional documents after you have filed

Hello,

Could anyone tell me what is the best way to submit additional documents after you have filed (and making sure that it is actually attached to your file and not lost)?

Anyone has had this experience?

Regards.

Matt

It depends. The best thing is to wait for an RFE if they are requesting the additional documents, that way they'll know to which case they belong.

If I were you, I would start by contacting the members from here that have fiance(e)s from Cuba. Maybe they can give you some insight! Good luck.

I appreicate your input and have actually contacted some of those members, just waiting on a reply. Thanks! (F)

As long as you can show proof of being in the same place, Stamps in passport, hotel receipts, pictures together, airline tickets to and from, ect.

I noticed something about a timeline on your post... I hace yet to make one, but will be doing so shortly. We have not yet filled to I-129F, which is why I am asking the questions now.

Sorry, can't help with the Cuba question, but for couples with straightforward cases, it's not difficult to do the paperwork on your own (many of us have done so with help from VJ!)

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! :D

Ok so I have a few questions for any of you all out there with experience regarding bringing your Cuban fiance(e) here. When providing proof of having met up in the past two years, is it a problem that my travel was made via a third country and without a license from the US? Also have you found it real difficult to do this whole process without an attorney or would you recommend hiring one?

WHOA!

You joined yesterday, and made FOUR separate topics already!

Take some time, read the guides THEN ask questions.

True, but you shoulda seen how many posts I had when I first joined - and I had read the guides. I remember the first page always had at least, like, 5 posts that I started. I sorta annoyed a few people, too. Just comes with being new to this, nervous, and excited, I guess.

rebex05, welcome to VJ, and to the visa process. Like they said, take a look through the guides and use the search function on the forum to search for stuff. There's a wealth of information here. :)

Just wanted to say thank you for kindness and I definitely will reread the guides that are on this site. I am lucky to have found this site before all the paperwork and such helpful people. I guess as you said I am just a bit nervous and excited at the same time and want to make sure everything is done right. You all are saints for listening to the newbies rantings. :D

I have a few questions about the biographical info form... my fiance's his father is deceased and has been so for over 20 years. So for the residence city of his father is it okay to just put 'deceased' or is there some better and more official way to record that? Also my fiance's address that he lives at now is not the one on is national indentification card, because it was never changed. So that address in someone in the country with he lives in a small town. Should he just go ahead and put the address that is on his ID or the one he is living at.

Also for my own form (I do turn in four copies myself correct?)... in the record of places lived I am uncertain if I put all places lived even if I never officially changed my address. I was in Nicaragua for a year and lived in Costa Rica for 4 months before that, but always maintained my US address. And before that lived on my university's campus. The thing is my billing address has always been my home address (parents' house)... so which addresses do I put down?

Thanks for the help and I know these may seem like obvious answers, but for a newbie everything is confusing. :D

1.) - my father is deceased also and I put on my form deceased and now have my visa interview next friday so it's no problem to put that as long as you have his name.

2.) My Fiance's address is different to the one he has on his ID so we just put the one he is living at now they do not ask you to prove your ID so don't worry about it.

3.) Yes you do have to have 4 copies for you AND for your fiance. and it should be quite fine to put the address you have always used if your mail has never gone to any other address it won't matter.

4.) :guides: There is a fantastic Guide on these forums that will help you with anymore questions you have Your lucky to have that guide my fiance and I had to figure it out for ourselves.

I appreciate your help and input. I will definitely reread the guides and FAQ. Guess I am just nervous and excited all at the same time... hence the myriad of questions. Thanks again!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance for a 17 years old..

Hello,
I have a son who was born in USA from Cubans parents. He is 17 and works as a part time and studies at college and he will finish next year. When he was about 11 he went to Cuba and met a lot of friends and he has keep communication with them by mail, email and phone. He is in love with one of those girls and they are a kind of fiancé since almost 2 years, she is also 17 and we have also communication with her parents without any problem. My son wants to marry her next year here in US and bring her with a Fiancé Visa.
My questions are:
1-Can they do it because of their ages? (Remember we and her parents can sing if it were necessary)
2-Who can make him an affidavit, can it be done for a friend of us?
3-He never thought he will have to prove his love, and then he has a lot of pictures/letter/postcards of her everywhere but he did not keep any envelop. How can he prove his love….he will go next March, what can he do to help that process?
4-She does not have any relative in US, is that good or bad for that process?

Thanks in advance, they are really in love and we are happy because they both are good children.

Welcome Reb,
Considering that she has been with her fiance for 3 years, I think that we should all assume that she really knows how to get in and out of the country. US CubaVJers know that it's a risk, but sometimes love puts us through that. Some of us have Licenses and some of us use 3rd country's because the straight flights are only for License holding passengers

Reb as far as you quiting your job to be with him throughout the whole process...mmmmhh okay, do you have money saved up, the process on the Cuba side can be pretty pricey. The medical checkup alone is 550cuc and prices might be increasing on the carta blanca begining next year. I think that you should definently plan to be there for the interview or as soon as you know your petition is getting sent to the US interest section in Cuba. If you have money saved up and have a co-sponsor than it shouldn't be a problem...however I just don't know if it would be the best idea to quit your job unless you were studying over there because they might question you about that at the interview. I couldn't make the interview because i'm pregnant, but I think if you can make it, it would help things...however I don't think that you should quit your job (unless your job sucks and you were already going to quit it anyway) After all you guys will be spending the rest of your lives together so this time apart will be forgotten in the future. Good luck with everything!!
cubanlovestory

:D Thanks so much for your input. I defintely value what you have to say being that you can understand my situation a bit more, as far as country specifics. I knew that the costs can be high in Cuba, but guess I never realized the extent. I am saving what I can now, so if the chance comes to be with him during that time then I could be there. I know it would be a huge support for him and plus we have not been together for over 10 months as it is (and counting). But you gave some great advice as far as quitting my job, things that I told myself, guess I just really want to be with him... however need to think a bit more realistically and long term. Push come to shove I will most likely not go, but just wanted to see what the possibility was. As you said... love makes you do crazy things. Thanks again and best of luck in the future. :D

I see your fiance is in Cuba, how can a USC go there?

Either you can go via a third country or apply for a license from the US Treasury Department (a branch of it). The reasons have to be legit, such as religious travel or other such circumstances. So those really are my two options, the latter being much more of a headache and the earlier while being easy is not licensed.

Thanks for your input. Does it provide any sort of problem if I had to quit my job though? I imagine that I need the steady job for the affidavit of support or no? I guess that is my biggest concern. Are there ways to get around this so as to be able to be with him?

I understand that Rebex. But your original post was:
'is it possible to move to my fiance's country and wait with him there for the next steps to come through... '

Will you & your fiance stay together for months, in a 3rd country, unemployed? I was under the impression a USC cannot go at all to Cuba...?

You can certainly quit your job but you will need an affdavit of support for your fiance to receive the K1 visa. I see fm the timelines Cuban visas take around 6 months or more. Can you afford to be out fo work that long?

I understand what you are saying now, guess I was a bit confused myself. I guess I worded my original post a bit weird. what I wanted to know was even if it is possible to visit my fiance during this whole process because after posting I thought about it more and realized being without work for that long is too much. Oh and I would most likely go be with him in Cuba traveling from a third country (such as Costa Rica as I have done before) and not directly from the US. Maybe that makes more sense. Thanks for your input.

no, its not a problem to stay with her, in fact many people do that. I would advice you bring everything with you that you will need to provide for your fiancees interview. Like IRS tax transcripts, letter from employer, etc., as they are much easier to obtain while you are in the USA.

:)

You don't have any pictures?
You can also send proof of an ongoing relationship although this may be secondary...

I do have pictures, though I heard that is secondar evidence. I was going to send between 4-8 of us together and some at his house with his family.
rebex05FemaleCuba2006-12-04 17:19:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestranslated documents

rebex,

To whom are you sending this proof of relationship?

The K1 visa process starts with an I-129f petition - have you read the I-129f instructions yet? The instructions tell you what kinds of supporting documentation is required and the instructions tell you very specifically about translation requirements.

Yodrak

Okay so my fiance and I are starting the K-1 fiance visa process. When sending in proof of realtionship (and is this recommended?) such as letters or e-mails, do those have to be translated into Enlgish? Is that something that I myself can do or must a professional translator do it? ......

I know this is really secondary evidence and more for the interview stage of things. Just guess I am the type of person that likes to have an idea about future steps as well. I understand what is required for the I-129F petition, however I am sturggling because my primary evidence is not super strong. I have no stamps in my passport (Cuba doesn't stamp your passport), no receipts (stayed with my fiance and ate at local places), just my plane ticket stub. So I wanted to send in some secondary evidence that might support my case, though I have read primary is the most important for the petition. Thanks for your replies and hopefully that clarifies any confusion about what I wrote.

So would a friend of mine who is fluent in Spanish and English be able to translate e-mails and letters or is it safer to have a professional do it?
rebex05FemaleCuba2006-12-04 16:13:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestranslated documents

DO TRANSLATE EMAILS.

Under the instructions here on the VJ site it states:

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.
The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I typed name , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled .

Signature
Date Typed Name
Address

USCIS

My fiance does not speak English and so all of our correspondence was translated. I called USCIS and was told that documents do not need to be translated by a professional but that I cannot do it. It needs to be done by someone who cannot benefit from the relationship (you).
I think it is better to be safe than sorry. I was approved rather quickly (for CSC) with no RFEs and I translated everything.
I also left that note by the translator after every email (I sent 5) along with a card from me to my fiance and a letter written by a friend of ours (also translated).
Good luck.

Thanks so much, this does help out a lot. :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDouble checking
I'm from Canada and have been living with my fiance in Denver USA for 3 months. I go home on Thursday, and we are readying the I-129F to be sent after I leave the country. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing and just wanted to double check/get some reassurance

1. On the G325a I had some job overlap (working two at once when I was in highschool during the summer) so I denoted the overlapping jobs with ** and then explained that they were summer employment at the bottom of the attached sheet (I had to attach one, I worked a lot of small jobs as a student!). Do you think this is an acceptable and understandable way to get around the overlaps?

2. His (he is the US Citizen) State Birth Certificate has nothing on the rear of it. Should we still photocopy both sides?

3. I've been reading the RFE master list and a lot of it was lack of evidence as to having met. We have a 3/4 page letter written briefly describing each meeting. Should I elaborate on where we stayed during that time? Only once did we use a hotel, the rest was lodging with either his family or mine.

4. The two times I crossed into the US (once by plane once by car) to visit him, I never recieved a stamp on my passport either time, so I can't very well use this as evidence. My fiance doesn't have a passport and was admitted to Canada using his Driver's License and Birth Certificate. Will this be an issue?

5. As far as evidence goes we have copies of my travel insurance giving Denver as my destination, e-mail itineraries from Orbitz and the like for flights, a photocopy of a snail-mail itinerary for my flight, boarding passes (unfortunately not the "whole set" - I flew via MSP and the tickets only say Winnipeg to MSP and so on, not actually Winnipeg to Denver. The destination is coded on the ticket and I highlighted that and pointed it out with a post-it note), a Guest Lodging Confirmation letter from the rental we stayed in in the mountains that has his name and address on it, copies of ski-passes with the dates highlighted from our mountain trip, 5 photographs taken in different locations/dates, my engagement ring reciept photocopied, the diamond certificate for my ring photocopied, and finally emails dated from the time we first started talking up til the time I left to come visit him for three monts in April (with the swears edited out with a sharpie!)

I'm hoping this is enough to avoid an RFE, I used tabbed and labelled dividers to make everything easier to navigate, highlighted every bit of pertinent information I possibly could, used post-its gratuitously...

Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this and reply if you do, I appreciate the support immensely!

I read this and had a little bit of a panic attack because we met online in June/05, met in person in Oct/05 and were engaged in Dec/05
BUT on the other hand, we havent yet filed the I-129F, it's being sent out next week. We decided that we should spent a long period of time with eachother to see if this was really right for us. So in 3 months ago in April I drove to the US to stay with him, and I'm only now leaving and going back home on July 27th. The petition will be filed a few days after I leave the country. I'm hoping that the time we spent building the relationship -after- the engagement will be helpful to our cause :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
You're right, Canada isn't a part of the VWP, it has something to do with bordering countries. However Canadians may stay in the US for 6 months as opposed to the 3 on the VWP.
It took me a ridiculous amount of time to find that last part out for sure. You would think they would make it easier.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisitation while K-1 is processing?
I feel kinda dumb, but if it isn't that's definately news to me. I may have misread it at some point then, but I do know the max limit of stay in the US for a Canadian Citizen is 6 months, and I thought that long of a stay was only permissible on the VWP. After that you have to pay taxes and some other junk that I never really read through.
