Yes next is the passport.

Actually the Dallas office has a booth for passport application. They announced it after the ceremony. So there's a ton of people in the line. We wanted to, but my little boy is so tired already. Been up since morning.

After the ceremony, we went straight to SSA (at least our boy had a chance to nap in the car) and filed a status request. The lady accepted it even though the USCIS hasn't updated their file yet. She said she will submit it after 10 days and will call me if there's a problem and I will get a new card two weeks after that. Same number, just a new card.

My appointment was 9:50am. Me, my husband and our 2.5 years old boy were there at 9:30am. Purse, diaper bag, jackets were put under the scanner. Wallets, belts, keys were put in a basket under the scanner too. Then physical check. No patting ;).

Asked to go upstairs and wait and I was given a buzzer. Yes, just like the buzzers you get in some restaurants.

I saw some applicants go in the interview with relatives. I planned to ask if I could bring my family in but I didn't since my son got into the toys they have in the waiting area. So might as well leave him playing and happy there with my husband.

My buzzer buzzed and there waiting for me at the desk, my officer. He's a nice black guy. I brought the buzzer back and he led me to Door A. Inside the door is a long aisle with a lot of offices on each side. He led me to his office and before he asked me to sit, he asked me to raise my right hand and swear that I will say nothing but the truth.

He asked the information from the N-400 itself. Signed papers and asked for my confirmation if my Alien number is correct as shown and stuff like that.

Then for the civic test:

1.) Who is the father of our nation?
2.) Name a war that happened in 19 hundred?
3.) How many members are there in congress?
4.) How many years do we elect for congressman?
5.) What month do we vote for our president?
6.) What is the capital of Texas?

Writing Test: "We vote for our president in November"

Verbal Test: "George Washington is the Father of our Nation"

After all these, he gave a paper stating that I passed the test and that I am recommended for approval... but he continued and asked if I am interested of coming back by 1:30 for the oath taking. Of course I do!!!! Then he gave me a paper that should be signed just right before the oath taking. There's question there something like, "between your interview and oath taking, have you been arrested.. have you changed your mind to fight for the US.. if you have been ticketed on the road.. "..something like that.

I was out of the officer's office in maybe 20 minutes.

And as for the oath taking. It's nice. I actually had some tears when the "God Bless America" video was shown. Pretty neat.

All in all it was a wonderful experience. It's like everything from K3 application upto before the oath taking stress has been stripped away and been replaced with just sweet memories. It's a nice feeling. And I need to say, I'm proud to be an American ;)

US Citizenship General DiscussionOld timer checking in, plus question

Couple of additional questions, based on this:

1) The sheet 'Who is eligible for Naturalization' states that if I'm over 18 and have been here for 5 years (plus the moral standing, etc), I'm eligible. The sheet 'Document checklist' states that the other paperwork is required if I'm "applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a US citizen." Now, I am married to a US citizen, but I'm not applying on that basis. I'm applying because I've been here over 5 years & I qualify. If I had only been here 3 years, the other stuff would become necessary, is how I read it. I'll get all the other stuff together, if it's needed regardless, but to me that's not what it says.


You entered the United States through K1 and no divorce, right? So I think you are going to apply N400 on the basis of marriage to a USC. Even you are above and beyond the 3 years.

But maybe I'm wrong and some people here could give you better suggestions.

I could make this lengthy and exciting, but I will make it easy on you, okay?

You are invited to a birthday party. The invitation reads: bring a bottle of wine and your kids!

Yet, you have no kids. Now you are thinking about having sex all night tonight so that you at least can say that your wife is pregnant.
Does that make sense to you?

If someone ask you to bring something you don't have, you can't bring it. Does that make sense to you?

There is no law in the United States that would require your wife to have a driver license or a State-issued ID, when in fact she has a Government-issued ID, named the Green Card.

She is also required to bring her passports, did you know that? Yet, if she has no passport, which she also is not required to have, she can't bring one. Does that make sense?


:star: :yes: funny but clear cut explanation. I hope things will go smooth on your wife's interview.

The new certificate will have a picture of you printed on it from your biometrics. But it won't hurt if you bring a couple. I didn't bring any during my interview and I was fine.

Thanks again for all your nice comments!! Yeah I wish I can get a naturalization certificate for christmas, that would be awesome. I have a question to get all of us more involved here. I read somewhere that that person thought there were US citizens A and US citizens B. The A group being the born citizens and B the naturalized citizens, he wrote that they were not the same and naturalized citizens were not equal to born citizens. What do you guys think about this? One arguement he used was that we cannot run for president. Please everybody post to know how you think!!!



I haven't heard of that before that there's Class A and B. Interesting.

But I do know that naturalized citizens cannot run for presidency, and I don't argue with that. I think it is the right thing to do. One loyalty. One allegiance. No strings attached with other country, the original birthplace. Because no matter what we say, our nationality will continue to flow in our blood. You feel bad when something happened to your birth country. You feel ashamed too when they do something stupid. There's a chance that presidential decisions might be affected. We're connected, even not on papers... and even how proud we are to be Americans (to be).

I would like to encourage everyone to create their timeline so that it will be available for everybody to compare in just one page.

It doesn't hurt to try I guess. It still depends if they are busy or not.Here in Sacramento CA, some we're allowed to do the early bio, and some were denied. hope this helps!

Has somebody tried "walk-in" biometrics in Fort Worth, Texas? My appointment is on the 1st of Nov and is a very inconvenient day and re-scheduling it backwards is not an option. I called the USCIS toll and the lady said "NO" walk-in. Can't find the direct Fort Worth telephone number. But who knows :) Anyone?

Yeah after the oath, I suggest go to SSA for update first. Then your driver's license. Go there ready for a picture because they might take a picture of you. In my case, they tore my old driver's license and gave me a temporary paper license.

And then last is the passport. Of course unless you have urgent travel plans. I am saying this because you need to send your original certificate with your application. And for SSA and driver's license, they also need to see the original so.

I can say I have the best in-laws in the world smile.gif They are quiet people. Professionals yet sweet and sincere. I've been here for almost 60 months and they've been as loving as I've seen them first. They live 300 miles away from us but every trip is sooo special. Either us or them visiting. Gifts here and there but you know what it's really them that I love. Who they are and the upbringing that I'm now treasuring of my husband.

I'm glad we're all enjoying our in-laws. They are treasures.

I don't have so much wisdom to share but I can share my experience.

My former fiance (now hubby) only sent me money for wedding expenses. I was working so I din't need help from him.

I set-up a spreadsheet for our wedding budget vs actuals.

From my first pay check after college, I was giving my parents 3K a month. That's sort of my room rent :).

One month just before our wedding, I resigned from work. From then on, my hubby equalled my paycheck and a little bit more.

.. that means the 3K every month continued ...

When I got here.... hmmm... what ya think? Am I a gold digger because I still need to send money back home?

The first month I got here, hubby volunteered to give my parents $100 a month. ... (I started working after 7 months of being bummed)

... just look at it this way... my parents found the comfort of 3K pesos a month from me. ... if I stop doing that, that would give them stress on looking for some 3K or tighten their belts to help with food and bills. We're not talking about because my parents can't support themselves. Both of my parents were retired teachers. Have some houses for rent. But it was my pleasure to give them 3K every month. Just to see their look on their faces. Everyone grow old and fade. But those smiles I will treasure forever.

My dad passed away two years after I entered the United States. But I will never forget those hugs and kisses that my proud daddy gave away every time I give.

We sent my sister and sister-in-law to college. That way we won't be hearing a lot of "help me" stuff from them. (Recently graduated-both of them)

Up to this day, my mom receives the gift from us.

I know everyone's financial situation is different. Maybe if it was a little harder, I may not have done it. But all I know is that there's joy in an honest giving.
