IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNew passport during visa process
After reading a few posts around the forum, I get the impression that I should use my married name for the i-130, as changing name midway can cause delays. Can put in my married name even if I haven't officially changed my name yet? Or should I wait it out till the whole process is over with? If so, what happens when I have to renew my passport (after the interview, before I enter the US) ???

Now I'm confused

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNew passport during visa process

Your marriage certificate is all the evidence you need of a name change. You're filing the petition in the new married name, right???

For me, it isn't so simple. Since I am a Danish citizen and we got married in the US, changing my name is a seperate action that can't take place before I get a certified copy with an apostille stamp mailed from the US. Then I have to take it to 1) the local town hall (for official registration of the marriage in Denmark) and 2) the local minister who can officiate a name change. So, technically I still have my maiden name, and I have filled out all paperwork with that.

I plan to change my name and then my passport later during the process. I hope it will not be a problem, as there is really no other way around it - except waiting with the application, which is really not an option. It's bad enough that we have to wait so long to be together already!

I have received fast and helpful replies for all other inquiries, I guess this one just slipped through somehow.

I'll bring my new and old passport to the interview, along with maybe proof of my name change - just in case.

We'll be sending off the first package on monday, hopefully :D

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNew passport during visa process
My fiancé and I are getting married a week from now in Las Vegas. I'm so excited!

Next step is to send off the I-130 and get the visa process going. The thing is, my passport (I'm the beneficiary) expires May 2013, so I've been thinking it would be a good idea to renew it before I (hopefully) get my visa. I can't renew it now, though, because I am travelling to the US to get married and need my passport for that. Would it be a problem if, for instance, I send a photocopy of my current passport for the DS-230 form, and then later renew my passport before the final interview? Or should I get my new passport before sending the DS-230?

I have sent an email to the embassy in Stockholm, but they say I shouldn't expect reply before 3-5 days... I'm the impatient type. Do any of you guys have experience with renweing your passport during the process?

PS: Don't worry. I'm not going to stay in the US after the wedding. I'm going home to Denmark to finish my education and wait for the visa process to run its course :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhen do I need to bring to my POE?

Thanks both! I have a connecting flight to Madison, so I hope everything will go smooth. I know the lines are sometimes extremely long in ORD, but I do have 2 hours before my connection. If I miss it, they have always put me on the next plane in stead.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhen do I need to bring to my POE?

Hi everyone

17 months and 22 days since we filed our I-130, I am finally approved and ready to make my entry for the USA. My POE will be Chicago on the 19th.

My husband is dyslexic, so I've been on my own through most of this process. It's been such a long haul, and at this point it seems like every time I try to read through the official information links, I get dizzy... I feel spent, but at the same time very excited to start our life together!

What I'm trying to figure out right now is what exactly do I need to bring at my my POE? I know the envelope I received from the Embassy, as well as the chest X-ray CD. Anything else? I'm terrified that something will go wrong during this final step.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked a billion times before... And thank you in advance for you help!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTwo weeks since interview, still waiting..

I know how paranoid this process makes you, but you are lucky enough to be going through one of the fastest embasies out there. I don't think you need to worry at all. It's not like they have been sitting there waiting for your file to come in ;) They have many visas etc to deal with. I think you did the right thing by emailing them and all you can do now is just to wait. If they recieved it by now, you will have your visa within a week or so. They process it very fast in Stockholm! (it might be on it's way right now!). They would definately have let you know if something was wrong or missing - they do that pretty fast, too! Good Luck!

Thank you for the encouragement! It's definitely a process that can make you paranoid. Every day I race home to check my mail, but still nothing. I have a feeling everything is fine, or that if they are processing our case further, that it's something minor and trivial that won't take too long.

Just so hard to focus on the future when this most vital part is still missing. :(

Breathe IN and breathe OUT

1) They still have your passport, right? This is a good sign
2) Have you contacted the Embassy and asked? While one may think that "they will let us know" I know from my own experience that, if I hadn't emailed them and asked what was going on, I never would have found out until the passport was delivered. --- So, get a hold of them, pronto!

Trying to stay calm. I e-mailed them yesterday, but I have a feeling it could be a while before they get around to responding. I just hope nothing is wrong because we intend to get married next month on a date which is special to us. Of course, beggers can't be choosers.

Thank you for the response. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTwo weeks since interview, still waiting..
Hi everyone. I had my interview in Stockholm a few weeks ago today, but when I had it, the medical results still hadn't arrived at the embassy. This was mainly due to the fact that I got a very early interview appointment, only a few weeks after Packet 3, so my scheduled medical was too close to that date. I was told that everything looked good and that if the medical looked good I would receive my passport with the visa in a week or two. Should I be worried? The doctor wrote me a letter I got after I got home from the embassy, saying the medical results had been sent off to the embassy and so I suspect they had the medical results as soon as a day or two after I had had my interview. I don't mean to sound impatient or anything, it's just nerve-wracking every day waiting for the visa, missing my Fiancée, and wondering if something went wrong.. further processing, lost by mail service.. just too many possibilities, and I see many people on VJ saying how they got their visa within a week or so, at least from others in Scandinavia.

So I guess my final question is, should I be worried? Would they even let me know if they had denied me/further processing/complications?

Thanks so much in advance! I hope my question isn't too annoying. :P

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer help or not??
Haha...thanks. I think we'll skip the lawyer then....and save the money.

So far we have been able to work everything out on our own...and we already sent the DS3032, and just put myself as agent....and got notice today that they have received the form.

But we are getting a impatient, so we basically wanna do anything to speed up our case, but I guess we just have to be patient, and let time work for us.

Thanks for the replys :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer help or not??
Hi.
My wife and I have a pending I-130 going on at the moment. We have been approved by the USCIS, and they have sent the case to NVC...and that is where we are now.

So far we have done this without a lawyer...but my question is, if it in any way will speed up the process of our case if we get a lawyer to take care of the rest of the process for us, or is it just a waste of money??

Hope to get some quick replies ;)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage certificate

Congratulations on the case closed!

Hopefully you'll get the interview scheduled soon. After your interview is scheduled wait a few days for the embassy to receive the casefile from the NVC. Once the embassy has your case file you can ask them to rescheduled the interview to an earlier date if any are available. Stockholm's Immigrant Visa unit replies fast.

Best of luck!

Thank you :)

I still haven't gotten a date yet, but hope to get it soon. That's awesome that you were able to get the interview rescheduled. I'm gonna try that for sure :)

Thank you for all your information :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage certificate

Great, thanks for the timeline information! Were you able to get a supervisor to review your case?

There are only a few reasons NVC will expedite, medical emergencies, military, financial hardship, and possibly some others that I haven't read about here on VJ. You can try the financial hardship angle, here are some threads that may help you: http://www.visajourn...5951j1159543j39 .

If your AOS has been approved and you're only waiting for the IV to get approved it may speed a bit. BUT, it is definitely worth a try. Read through the threads above and remember to send the email request with the supervisor subject link, see post 2 here http://www.visajourn...il-to-expedite/

Good luck!

No we sent a certified copy to them instead, and then I guess we'll see if it shows up at the interview.

I decided to not try to get the case expedited, and just hope for the best. I just called them and they informed that our case is completed, and they are waiting for an interview date from Stockholm... So I hope it's possible to get the visa before christmas still :)

Can you please fill our your timeline. It helps everyone :)

You should call back the NVC and ask for a supervisor to review your case file. The operators can't see what paperwork is in the file, only what they see on the computer screen.

Thank you. I've filled out the timeline now ;)

Do you think it would help to talk to a supervisor to get the process speeded up too?? I have a possibility to acquire a small business, so I would have a job from day 1 in the states. But the offer expires Dec. 31., and then it'll be sold to another, so it would be nice if I could have my visa before that. Do you think they will listen to that or if they don't really care?

Thanks,
René

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage certificate
Hi.

We sent our I-130 visa application in Jan this year. Then in May USCIS required us to send the original marriage certificate to them for additional evidence....so we did.

We have sent the affidavit of support and civil documents to NVC now, but yesterday they wrote us an email that we need to submit the original marriage certificate. We would expect it to be on the case already, since we've sent it to USCIS, so I just called NVC and was told that sometimes USCIS don't send the original marriage certificate to them. Now we need to get a certified copy of it and send to them instead.

I am shocked!! Anybody else had that happen to them?? We would kinda like to get our original marriage certificate back, it's a quite important document to us. So if anybody have any ideas how to get that, we would be happy to hear it :)

Thanks

Hi.
I'm sure that this has been asked plenty of times, but I can't seem to find any answers.
I looked at the guides aswell, but that didn't really help me, so i will try to ask you experienced people smile.gif

We got approved for the K-1 visa (noa2) on 13th April 2009, as for now, we haven't heard a thing from anyone.

I assume that it is going to the NVC, but how do we know how far it got? How do we know if they received it or even if they already sended it to the embassy in copenhagen?

Is there some sort of a casenumber, and who do we contact to see how far in the process we are? smile.gif

I know you probably get these questions alot, but i would really appreciate it if you would answer smile.gif

Thank you.

Hi all.
We got approved for the K-1 visa at 13th April 2009.

My fiance who is the petitioner called the NVC and entered our casenumber, however it said something like invalid number or so.

He then called the USCIS and got told that we shouldn't worry, they just had loads of applications to do or so, so they are behind.
(I didnt hear the conversation but something like it)

My questions is, is it normal that it can take up to 1 month before it reach NVC?

Might be a stupid question, but are the NVC open from 7.30 am till 12.00 pm midnight or just till 12.00 am in the day, if you call them?
I mean if you want to talk to an actual person smile.gif

I searched on google but i got different results.

Thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionform i134 questions
Hi all.
I have some questions about the i-134 form, that I dont understand.

My fiance's boss is gonna co-sponsor me, they seem to have a great relationship, and since my fiance is still a student and only works parttime, he can't sponsor me himself, so his boss was so kind to offer it.

However, just looking through the i-134 form I have a few questions:

1. Number 3: "Relationship to sponsor".. I don't know my sponsor, so i dont really have any relationship with him, what do I write and is this bad?

2. I read that the co sponsor must provide statements from his employer about salary, start date, status etc., but my co sponsor is kinda of his own employer, do he just write it to him self and signs it himself, since he is the boss in the company he is working in or is there something i have totally misunderstood here?

3.
And do my fiance also have to fill out an I-134, eventhough he isnt gonna sponsor me?

4. And a last question.. About the povertylines and the household size, when looking at the poverty lines, i wonder if it will count me and my fiance also?
We will of cours live in our own apartment, but does it count the ones that he lives with that are dependant on him and then me aswell?

I know it's many questions and they are probably stupid lol, but I just want to make sure ! biggrin.gif

I would really appreciate if I could get some answers smile.gif Thanks all.
