Middle East and North AfricaOhio MENA meet up
QUOTE (Aymsgirl @ Apr 24 2009, 07:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm a Buckeye!! I'm located between Dayton and Cincinnati on the Southwest side of Ohio. Indianapolis isn't that far from me if you choose. We also need to let HLM know about it if we go that route because she is in Indy as well.

Oh yea!!! I think this could possibly work. good.gif

Ok, so we have location ideas... what about WHEN?

Middle East and North AfricaOhio MENA meet up
I've always wanted to know more MENA couples and I've seen there are a few of us in/around the Ohio area. I was thinking maybe Columbus would be the best place (since it's in the middle of the state) but I'm open to suggestions as to when and where.

Middle East and North Africaasking people with moroccan SO about K-1 & K-3
QUOTE (karimcharleen @ Apr 24 2009, 03:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i was wondering which way is better, the K-1 or K-3 visa? i'm kinda comfused. does one visa take any longer, have more papers to prove, cost more to file, are there any advantages or set backs for either visa? do we have a better chance if we are married verses just being engaged? helpsmilie.gif

From what I've seen/heard the K1 is faster.

Personally I wouldn't want to get married and then wait, alone in another country while the USCIS decided whether or not to send my husband over or not. What would happen if you were married and they said no? I think the K1 is "better" although both most likely not easy to go through. There is a lot of paperwork either way.

I would also like to welcome to VJ!

Her and I met on a flight from Morocco in 2007. I was crying because I was leaving my Tarik behind in Casablanca while I flew back to Ohio. Tarik was trying to escort me through the line but they sent him away. I saw a blonde girl with a blue jilaba. I looked at her passport and saw Blue. I looked at her and asked: "Are you from the US?" she said yes and helped me through my tears. She went through security while I sobbed my last goodbyes to my then fiance. I walked through security and when I entered the waiting area for our flight, there was the same girl, saving a seat for me. We were on the same flight to JFK smile.gif We talked most of the way back to the States. The flight was not very full so I moved my seat back to where she was, and when we got tired, we moved again so we could lay out and sleep smile.gif

I'm just so happy to see her on here now smile.gif

Sorry, who is Monica?

Good morning! Happy TGIF to everyone!! Enjoy your day!

Lol Sorry. She commented on the Moroccan MENA thread.

A (western) friend of mine has a son who has been in love with a girl for many years and this girl happens to be four years older than him. He wants to marry her but his (Egyptian) father will not approve of it because of the age difference. The son says if he can't marry this girl, he won't ever marry anyone. Well, now the concern is that he may have married her secretly. My friend told me today this is her suspicion, anyway. And, she says, if that's the case, she may just have to honor kill her husband. What a sad position to put the entire family in, eh?

Middle East and North Africais good to marry within the first time we meet?
I think that is a bad idea.

First of all I hear that K3 visas take WAAAAAYYYYY Longer than K1 visas.

When I went to Morocco to visit my husband (fiance at the time) we had an engagement party and I got to know him and his family better. Then we applied for the K1 visa and it took about 9 months from beginning to end.

I heard the K3 visa takes YEARS!

I mean think about it.... what good is a marriage if you can't be together? I would just wait.

You know, seeing the picture of Egypt reminded me of Morocco. Recently I've been severely torn between living here and there. I should live here for so many reasons, but Morocco has the potential to be great for other reasons. Hmm.....

Good Morning MENA!

I'm still kinda groggy.

But let me tell you how excited I am that a new Meijer just went in near my house! They sell FRESH MINT and.... LAMB!!!! Holy #######! Maybe I'm a nerd.... but none of the other chain grocery stores around here sell those things and so many Moroccan recipes call for those ingredients. So I'm pretty much excited about that. whistling.gif (Holla!)

Middle East and North AfricaIf you could go back...
Hey Monica! smile.gif

I asked Tarik a lot of questions before we got engaged/married. I think you and I covered that a little when we first met.

I think it's important to say that you need to watch out for perfect answers to every question. I don't think it's possible to agree on 100% everything. Especially cross culturally. I've found that there are a lot of things Tarik and I needed to compromise on.

I asked Tarik a lot of "trick" questions when I first met him. ("Am I allowed to......", "If I ....... would you......" ). Make sure that he is ok with you living the life you lead now, but with him. Unless you are willing to sacrifice some of that. He will have to sacrifice too if he gets here. So keep that in mind.

One thing I did that was a mistake (but happily fixed) was: I became someone I thought I wanted to be. But I wasn't that person. When I changed back into the real me it took us through a rocky few months. But I assure you we are MUCH happier now than ever.

Best of Luck to you Monica.

Good morning everyone!! Happy Friday Eve! I am at work and already wishing it was time to leave. sad.gif

I was looking at pics from the last time I was with my husband and now I miss him even more. crying.gif Come one June!!!!

Amanda sad.gif I understand the immense anticipation you must be going through. At this time last year I was in the same boat. It has been 10 months since I had seen my then fiance. His interview was also in June. You will be surprised about how fast it actually goes. The days kind of crawl by... and almost seem like one gigantic day. But then all of a sudden you're booking the plane ticket and the next he's in your arms! smile.gif That feeling makes all this waiting MELT away like warm butter.

I remember when he was on his way to America. That day I scheduled a bridal shower (to help take my mind off the fact that within hours I would have my man with me smile.gif). I was so anxious ALLLL DAY! Then, I got a phone call at about 10pm from Tarik. He was in Atlanta GA and said his flight to Ohio was CANCELLED and I had to wait until the next morning for him to fly here. He was scared to be alone in the airport over night. He bought numerous phone cards to call me from the pay phones and called me multiple times during the night. I could not sleep anyway so it didn't matter. The next morning my mother drove me to the airport (because I was shaking lol) and we waited and waited. The next thing I knew, I saw Tarik in a green and white polo shirt and khaki pants. Watching him come down the escalator was the longest period of time I've waited in my life! Then finally, I held him. I kissed him. I smelled him. Wow. smile.gif Trust me. It's alllllllllll worth it.

Good Morning MENA!

Tarik always complains about being the only one working at work. lol It's cute but I'm starting to see that a little at his new job.

Today I'm off dry.gif. I'm a little bummed, cause I need to make money, but I'm going to my old High school to talk to my two favorite teachers and ask them how I should go about getting my teaching degree. I talked to an advisor yesterday and they said from now until my MA in English Education will be Summer 2012. That means I'll be able to start teaching in the Fall of 2012. That's not as bad as I thought. smile.gif

Hope everyone has a great day smile.gif
