K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExpedite based on financial hardship

It's a lot cheaper to give birth in Philippines than over here. C-section over there in Philippines is still a lot cheaper than normal delivery over here in US unless you get free medical insurance premiums for your health care at work for your dependents?

Yes it is much cheaper than here in the US, however I have premium health care so it is only $100 co-pay. Plus I added the cost of being with my child at birth if I had to go, as I would have to make another trip to get her and the child after the CBRA and her visa approved vs a trip to go get her now. I am very bitter towards the overall process due to the fact I am discriminated on by the state I live in and align with VSC. If I was a Cali, she would have been here months ago, the cali part of the statement was put in the request as well.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExpedite based on financial hardship

Here's the USCIS Expedite Criteria:

All expedite requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and are granted at the discretion of the Director. The burden is on the applicant or petitioner to demonstrate that one or more of the expedite criteria have been met. The criteria are as follows:

Severe financial loss to company or individual
Extreme emergent situation
Humanitarian situation
Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States
Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)
USCIS error
Compelling interest of USCIS
Note: Discretionary expedite requests for petitions and applications that have Premium Processing Service available will not be considered for expedite processing. The only exception is when the petitioner is a not-for-profit organization designated by the Internal Revenue Service. For information regarding premium processing, please refer to the premium processing webpage.

If you have already filed your application or petition:

You can make an expedite request by contacting the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at 1-800-375-5283. The NCSC will take a “service request” and forward your expedite request to the office with jurisdiction over the application or petition. You also have the options of 1). visiting your local office by scheduling an InfoPass appointment or 2). writing a letter to the local office or service center.

I'm not sure if your situation falls on the 1st condition but I'm pretty sure it won't hurt to try.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExpedite based on financial hardship
Has anyone got a 129f expedited based on finance hardship due to cost of pregnancy and c section? I called yesterday and the agent was very nice and supportive, but he is not the guy deciding. I contacted my senators liaison but my guess is that will not work as she sent the request to Texas, I have no clue why.....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE question
As many others have said Detroit is your first POE, when you stop in Japan, I assume you are going through Nagoya you will only get off the plane, and go through a security checkpoint then to your gate, you will have time for a quick bite to eat and shopping then off to Detroit. Detroit is pretty easy to get through, is your fiancé going to be with you? You will clear immigration then they will take your bags and put them on the flight to JFK. Good luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC timesavers

I e-mailed my choice of agent on July 19th and have not had a response yet. [On a side note I did courier the following week because of seeing the delay with others, it was received by NVC yesterday and the recorded message for our case now reflects that].

It seems that with the summer there has come a backlog - others had a way quicker response with e-mailing their choice earlier in the year.

I read another post where the person called everyday and they got a response. I never called to try to speak to an actual operator.

I emailed my Choice of Agent form on 7/21 with no response. I've called everyday for a week and was told to send another email. :(

I have no date at all. has anyone had this problem? or are there others with october completes and no date yet?

My case was also completed in October but no interview date. When I spoke to DOS, he said it depends on the amount of cases they allow for each visa category. Because I noticed someone with a K1 get an interview for Dec who applied after me. The DOS rep said its probably because of the visa category. Sending out prayers that we all hear good news about interviews soon! rose.gif

I knew from the NVC website that I need to send my wife's passport photocopy along with DS230-I to NVC. Yesterday I received DS230 instruction and went to the website to double check and found that I need to complete and send both parts of DS230 to NVC (part-I signed, part-II not) and need to send the originals and photocopies of her BC, police certificate, and our MC. Then I called and talked to a live operator this morning and was informed that no need to send other documents except the passport photocopy with DS230-I. Now I am confused what to do. Should I rely on her (risk-receive a RFE) or should I send all originals to NVC now(risk-lose all originals)

Please advise

Looks like you have to send all to NVC. It has been effective from July 13, 2007. For certain U.S. Embassies and Consulates, NVC provides additional document collection and review, and schedules the cases for interview. DOS refers to these embassies and consulates as Appointment Posts.

We did not have to send all, as we completed our process last year. Previously, only few countries' (Phillippines, Lebanon, etc) applicants required to send all documents to NVC. Here is the link that I have found that about this change.

http://travel.state..../info_3734.html

I have a co-worker friend who applied for his wife in Bangladesh this year. He just sent the photocopy with DS230-I in September. Case was completed in October with no RFE. I would call and speak to another NVC rep.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLatin naming - two last names - how to put on forms?
Just for another response - my husband is from Mexico and we used both his father and his mother's name as his last name and did not enter any name for the middle name. I believe this is the correct way because this is how the information is interpreted on his Mexican passport and it's important for all of his documents to reflect the same name.

Best advice - do what you want but just be consistent!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Hello Fellow VJ'ers

I am curious as to what some of the latest interviews that have been scheduled at the embassy in Amman, Jordan are. Our case was complete at the NVC on June 26th and we still don't have an interview date. I know they only schedule interviews during the 2nd week of the month for the following month...did any of you get in for August????

Since we did not get in for August...I can only hope for a September interview date but of course won't know a thing about that til the 2nd week of August when they do September interviews.

Please let me know where you stand in the process.

Best of luck to you....

Thanks...and have a wonderful day!!!

Middle East and North AfricaInterviews in Amman Anyone??
I appreciate the suggestion but I have already emailed the embassy a few times. They said they still have not gotten the file from the NVC yet. When I talk with the NVC they tell me that we didn't make it into Amman's schedule for August which was completed the 2nd week of July so now we have to wait until the 2nd week of August to see if we get scheduled in for September. I think because what we filed is the I130 CR1 form the process is longer than going through an I129f. I don't know why..but they seem to put the I129f's first. Then again I have seen unstable timelines with them going up and down all over the place with no consistency at all. Thats why I still call. Anything can happen. And what else do I have to do, right? haha

Another email couldn't hurt either....

Thanks for the suggestions!

Middle East and North AfricaInterviews in Amman Anyone??
I called the NVC and they told me we didn't make it into the interview group for August....so now we must wait for the September interviews to be scheduled...and they will be scheduled in the 2nd week of August......

Now we wait for the 2nd week of August....and if that comes and goes and no interview date for September..thats when I will be pulling out my hair. August 26 will be 2 months from case complete....I just hope by August 26 we have a date of some sort!!

From what I can see...there are 2 things....it seems faster to get to the interview date if you are doing a K1 vs. CR1 and also it seems to be alot faster to get scheduled into other embassies.....but Jordan is very slow. I see people (not from Jordan) whose cases were complete after ours and they already have interview dates so quick....I think Jordan gives out very few appointments every month. And I don't understand why the scheduling also only takes place the 2nd week of every month...that makes no sense to me at all but like everything else...we have to grin and bear it. And old habits are hard to break...I still call the NVC almost every day to listen to the "case complete" message and see if one day it happens to change to "your case has been forwarded"....freakier things have happened.

Everything's great with me....but life does take on a sort of "on hold" feel until Esmat gets here. I am taking up a dichroic jewelry class...that should get me going on a new hobby...that can help take some of my "thinking" time away! Esmat is visiting with all family and friends and having dinner at their homes here and there to say all of his goodbyes....then before he leaves he will invite everyone to his family's home for a big party. I think him and his friends will have to take a bus to the airport when he comes...he has like 15 friends that want to come with him to say bye.....

Where did you have your collages done? Do you have a page with pics on it? Would love to see if you want to share.

Hope u are having a great day!

Would it be a possibility, since as I understand it, to give NVC a call to find out the interview date? How does it work? O seems to have the impression that he would have an interview within 2 months. Nice to see that he's being optimistic! good.gif

I just ordered collages of our time together. They're 11" by 14". And in 3 "themes": tourist, family/friends, just us. Heh. I'm too lazy to do some hand picking and pasting pictures.

I told Odai to start working on getting the police certificate. He is also preparing to have the important documents (ie school records, nursing degree, etc) translated for his use in the US. I'm not sure what else he needs to get in preparation. I still have to order a certified birth certificate. My "original" seems like a $---ty piece of paper *ahem* so don't want the consulate complaining (I plan to get 3 copies. 2 to keep, and 1 to send to O for his interview). I'm waiting to hear from the possible co-sponsor. *cross fingers*

I don't mean to bust your bubble, but I would prepare myself for a longer wait if I were you. We filed for our process in Jan 07, and by the time all the paperwork was finished and approved, it was July before his interview date. Then we were put in AP and RFE, filed those papers the same week and still had to wait until October before he was approved for his visa. It seems with any of the embassy's it's either feast or famine! Either the approvals come thru very quickly or very slowly.
So, my best advice is to find something constructive to do until he has his interview. Believe it or not, once you get the news that he has his interview date the time does fly by!
Best of luck in your wait, and GOD SPEED!!

Yes...we were so not thinking we would be apart our whole first year of marriage, except for my couple of trips over to see him....but we sure do realize it now!! I am thinking that it could even be October before he is scheduled to be interviewed.....if not, I will definitley have to take a trip over. Not going now is killing me but I just started a new job and don't want to take vacation right now.

Thanks for your note and dose of reality...I do have to be patient!!

We have been apart now since March 4. I think through everything, this waiting for the NVC to schedule the interview was the hardest part so far. You cheer when USCIS gives approval and get all happy...then go through what you go through at the NVC with all the forms and cheer and get all happy when they tell you your case is now complete...then its hurry up and wait again for a month or two while they get around to scheduling your interview...which I think could be backlogged due to a limited number of interview slots given by the embassy.....for whatever reason its driving us insane because there are no forms to fill out, nothing to do but WAIT.

Please let me know where you stand in the process.

Best of luck to you....

Thanks...and have a wonderful day!!!

Middle East and North AfricaK3 Interview in Amman Scheduled
I too.....like Lulu...got a K3 interview at Amman this weekend...got an email from the Amman embassy to inform me of an interview on Nov 3 at 7:30am. kicking.gif

This is way far away (sort of) and I thought it would be sooner.....but the good part is I am feeling some relief because there is some closure in getting an actual date....

Still waiting on the I-130 CR1 interview...which was complete at NVC on June 26 and has been waiting for an interview to be scheduled since then.

The NVC got my approved K3 from USCIS on August 1....they transferred it over to the Amman embassy on August 5. By August 11 my interview was scheduled by the Amman embassy and a package was mailed to my home in the US (I have not received it yet). That was so fast...because all NVC had to do was turn it over to the embassy.

Now, even with a completed case on June 26, it is August 18 today and there is still no interview for the CR1 scheduled....we didn't make the list for August interviews...now I am waiting for them to complete their "once a month during the 2nd week of the month" scheduling of interviews. They are understaffed or there is some sort of bottleneck in the process somewhere when it comes to embassies that are on a different time schedule?? I don't know what it is. I thought maybe its because the Amman embassy is possibly smaller...they have limited capacity but if thats the case, why did they schedule me immediately for Nov 3? The NVC tells me that the Amman Embassy supplies them with a set amount of interview appointments each month....they work with what they give them. I guess they reserve the rest of the time back in Amman for interviews scheduled via their infopass system for all other types of visas for walk in people in Amman. They need to give more interview slots up for CR1 visas if this is the case.

I just called NVC and they told me they haven't finished scheduling for the month of September yet....they did the same thing last month. They told me to call back on Friday for a possible update to our case. If the CR1 doesn't get scheduled before Nov 3rd then the K3 interview appointment will be changed to CR1.

Its a "ways" away but at least we got a date to work with now. Our plans to get married here on the same day as we did in Jordan last year, October 29 are not going to be able to go forward....who would have known...it was going to take more than a year for him to be allowed to come and be with his wife.

Anyway...looking on the bright side...that year is almost through and now I can get excited!!! I am so happy my Sweetheart will be here to keep me warm this winter...and then for the rest of my life!! smile.gif heart.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif heart.gif

Middle East and North AfricaHotel rooms in Jordan
Yes, it is the rule and you will be asked, esp if it is a cheap hotel. My husband and I were asked to provide proof of identity...I had to provide my passport to prove I was in the country legally and we had to provide our marriage agreement...this was in two different hotels in Amman and one in Aqaba. We stayed in the Kempinski for one night when I first arrived and we did not have to do that there...but I booked that online through expedia before I left and my name was on the hotel and it was a 5 star hotel.....at the smaller hotel you will be asked and usually there is 1-3 men downstairs monitoring who goes up and down and they also like to keep your key at the front desk. And at these type of hotels, the person at the front desk probably doesn't know english...for the most part and if so, very little. So, if you have anything to say you will be speaking through your husband...unless you know arabic very well.

The rule is, if the hotel is 4-5 stars then they dont ask. Otherwise, they will ask you. It doesn't matter if you are American or not, the country has its rules and everyone has to obide by them. That's the reason they made it easier in 4-5 star hotels, for tourists. That will cost you a pretty penny though.

Good luck!

Well.... I stayed at a place downtown -- clean and decent and quite large rooms, but definitely not a 4-5 star hotel. laughing.gif Mahmoud wasn't with me, but there was another American woman in our group with her Palestinian husband. He just went to the counter and asked for a room for himself and his wife. No further questions were asked about it, and they did not have to produce their marriage certificate. Maybe they just "looked married" or something, or maybe it was because she was obviously American, or maybe at other places it may be different. Who knows ?

Anyway, Palilover, I really doubt you will encounter difficulties. Just bring a copy of your marriage certificate -- does it look like an "official" American courthouse document ? That should be enough "evidence," if they even ask.

Well that is the official rule, I'm sure not everyone enforces it.

Middle East and North AfricaIs it just the distance, or is it something more...
Kristen,

I think it says a lot and is very sweet that he came here to try to contact you.

I think you are running scared and need to talk with him...can't you see he is crying out for you? If he didn't love you wouldn't he just stop and let you go?

Don't you want a man that is willing to come find you and try to get you back????????? Or would you like it better if he just walked away and if you want him to just walk away, did you ever really love him at all?

Come on...give him a chance!!!

Not a promiscous society? I think, because of the repression of sexual urges, there is backdoor, in the night nookie that is just not discussed in Jordan. It's there, just no one talks about it or acknowledges it. Of course more prevalent in Amman than in the villages. The hookers I saw tho were in the little village of al husn.

Men and woman will mix no matter what country they are in. Just cuz mom & dad & grandparents dont know about it, doesn't mean its not happening. I saw 'women of the night' on every trip to Jordan. hoochie mama's ...lol

I hope you get thru this separation quickly. Nothing like a good reunion to make you forget the horrible wait.

Hi Jackie,

I wasn't trying to say promiscuity does not exist in Jordan...of course it exists everywhere. But if Jordan was like the US, when my husband is going out for the night...I would wonder about him a lot more than I do now. His "going out" is going over a friends house and playing cards until 2am...not going out with a bunch of friends club hopping, intermingling with a lot of women. There is a HUGE difference between Jordan and US in this regard. I would be more worried about the casual meeting when out having fun than the prostitutes....but thats just me. By the way, I saw them (the women of the night) in Amman...and also in Aqaba they are very prevalent. However, they don't make it easy!! You know this if you have ever attempted to stay in a hotel with your husband in Jordan...we had to provide our marriage agreement and IDs to prove we were married to stay together in the hotel. So, its not like you can just grab a prostitute (or even any woman) and rent a hotel room like you can here. Of course, at the Kempinski they didn't ask for any proof...but thats a 5 star hotel...and was rented online by me (from the US) before I went.

As far as being let down because he is going out and doing something with family or friends instead of talking online....he's gotta spend time with these people because he won't see them again for a long time and life is about to change for him a lot. I have had times when I was planing on being with my husband online all night and he informed me that he will be going to a friends home to play cards for the evening. Or they will come to his home. This does not make me jealous at all and I tell him to enjoy while he can and I take advantage of that free time and do something I want to do. We call each other during the night sometimes a couple times just to say we miss each other.

I wanted to comment on something else that is sort of related....I notice a lot of women here seem to take on a lot of the burden for their significant other...between paying the immigrant fees, phone bills and travel costs. I don't think you can have a long distance relationship like this without coming out with some cost burdens...but I have expected and relied on my husband to pay all of his immigrant fees on his own. He wired me the money for all of it whenever money came due. He paid for all of my trips to Jordan in full and sent me the itinerary via email and he also pays for all calls...I call him and do a missed call and he calls me right back so I don't have the burden of the cost. I think its important to do this (make them responsible) because its hard enough work on us already...doing the forms, keeping a job, home, etc. and they must accept some of this burden. And it is their responsibility, also. My husband has also sent me money for gifts for family members (birthdays) and money to help out with the bills now and then. Even though I make very good money and can afford all of these things...he does this to help out where he can.

I just hope that some of us are not being taken advantage of in this regard...thats why I brought it up. I have heard women on here complaining about the money they dish out for travel, calls, even sending money to their husband to live on!!!!!!

Be careful ladies!

I'd like to keep it in the MENA sub-forums, please....

Got the interview date -- as someone else mentioned, seemed more tension comes up. I'm not sure. But the tension has been on-going....

Anyway.... I was wondering if it's just the distance of being apart for so long, or if it's something much more concerned about: wondered if any of you had some trust issues (to the point of having to fight / defend) while apart -- but it does not occur while together in person here?

As you know, going through this is not for the weak. At times I can tell my husband gets a little worried but he would never accuse me...its when he tells me how much he trusts me and he knows he picked the best for his wife and has all trust in her...thats when I know he is a little worried.....And this is his way of reassuring himself instead of doubting me. I can understand somewhat why one would ask questions esp if we are in the US alone...being here in the US...in the middle of the fast life where anything goes...anything can happen. Whereas on the flip side...I don't worry about him at all because I know he does not live in a promiscuous society....what if he did? I am sure I would be worried. The trickiest thing my husband does is sit around with his friends outside of the house drinking coffee. The trickest thing I do is go for a walk in the park with my granddaughter or go to the gym.

I think its more than just the trust issues....I think nervousness (about the immigration) may play a part and can manifest itself in many ways. The date is getting closer....there are many facets of worry associated with that...from worrying about going to the embassy to worrying about what to pack and bring to the US with him to leaving his friends and family. Just reassure him in every way you can and try not to get frustrated. Remember he is about to uproot his life for you...leave his home, family and everything behind that he has always know...and its all dependent on you and your love...maybe its his way of looking for reassurance.

Middle East and North AfricaWhich Name to Use on Legal Documents in USA
My husband's passport was translated by a Jordanian who made it - into english....and they did not properly spell his name the first time around. He did nothing about this and just accepted it thinking maybe all this time he has been incorrectly spelling his name in english or just going with the flow....but every time he spelled his name himself in english it was not as how it is on the passport...then I started seeing the name spelled in english from some relatives and they all spell it the same in english ....and it was not spelled like this on my husband's passport or...as a result...on our marriage agreement.

I asked him to go back and get a new passport with the correct spelling of our last name. He did and they changed it for him with no problem. They realize that they don't always translate perfectly or as it should be pronounced in the US. I am so happy about this because I did not want our last name to be butchered every time someone here used it.

My husband also had to go get a new marriage certificate with the new name because our original marriage agreement has the old spelling from the old passport. I have been waiting for the new marriage certificate so that I can change my name here...which I have waited to do until the name was fixed.

Just make sure that he has the correct name as last name on his passport and that is what should be used for his US last name. I emailed the embassy and asked them about the passport name change...I wanted to make sure it would not hinder the immigration process if he shows up to the interview with a passport with his name spelled differently and they said it would not be a problem.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Middle East and North AfricaOctobers Interviews Issued this Week? Esp Amman??
Yessssss.....I was hoping for a CR1/IR1 interview in October but just called NVC and they said "not yet"..... mad.gif

I love the way their message tells me..."your case was completed on June 26th, if it has been more than 8 weeks since this date and you haven't heard anything, please press zero for an operator"...because they don't do anything but give you the same old reply huh.gif (the operator)..we are still waiting for appointment dates from Amman and we are still scheduling, try to call back again next week.

Good thing this week I did not call them twice a day like I did last month wacko.gif . I am used to this whole long drawn out routine...thank God I filed for the K3 and I am praying that I can change my K3 interview to an CR1/IR1 when the time comes. At the end of next week when scheduling is complete I will start sending emails to the Amman consulate and the NVC asking them to change the Nov 3rd type to regular immigrant visa interview and forward my paperwork to Amman immediately.

It looks like (at least at this point), that Nov 3rd will be the magical interview date for us. good.gif

I know there are many of you out there that are saying...whats the problem, thats right around the corner!?? Well, the problem is that I have not seen my husband for almost 7 months and my case has been complete at NVC since June 26, way before I received an NOA2 for my K3 and my K3 is scheduled but not my CR1/IR1 interview. Just goes to show you that rushing through NVC doesn't always help or make any difference...You rush through and get all excited...just to sit and wait. This is not always the case...but definitely is with Amman. It is one of the longest to wait for...so if you are going through Amman-GET READY TO WAIT!

Anyway...thanks for listening to me complain....it helps to just get it out. Now its time to get happy (which I am very much so-don't get me wrong) about our Nov 3rd interview.....It is, after all, right around the corner. kicking.gif And really I think I need about 6-8 weeks to go through all of my clothes drawers and closets to make room for my husband's things.

For those of you that still have a "ways" to go...good luck.....I hope your case goes fast!!

Those are all K3's Jackie...assigned by the consulate.

We are still waiting to hear about the CR1/IR1 interview scheduling. I called tonight to check on it and they are still doing the scheduling for October.....I was told to call again next Friday....when they expect all slots to be full. Don't forget AMM also processes for Iraq as well and those slots fill up quickly.
