Middle East and North AfricaFriday is finally here!
Happy Friday!!!!!!! kicking.gif Happy Weekend!!!

After the stress from the early part of the week for Esmat's interview to working til almost 11pm two nights this week....after getting to work at 8am I am so happy to see the weekend coming.

I will be hanging out with my granddaughter Lyn tomorrow...can't wait for that. We just found out the Disney Playhouse Live is coming to Philly....we are getting tickets for that for Nov 22...geezz...she's got me wrapped around her finger. I was more excited when I heard about this tour than the last time I found out Def Leppard was coming...hahahaha!!!!

Time to take a deep breath....its lunch time here....time to go down by the Riverfront and take in some fresh air....

Have a great weekend everyone!!

I would go to JFK and meet my honey in a heartbeat!!! Hahaha...JFK is less than 2 hours away from me...and is where I will be meeting Esmat when he comes...hopefully by the end of this month.

I think it would be nice for you to meet him there and fly back to Chicago together. I probably would not be much into site seeing after being apart for so long....I plan to take Esmat straight home! devil.gif

Go for it!!!!

oh...I just noticed that you said fiance.....are you getting married while you are in Jordan? If you aren't married they probably won't let you stay at the hotel together.

I think it will be worth it to be closer to the airport and thats still not very expensive. Esmat and I stayed at a place in Amman right by the big King Hussein Mosque in Amman...it was nice and quiet and cheap at $31.00 dollars...not dinars...for the night...and he drove so we didn't have to worry about a taxi. But we were still out a ways from the airport and that always makes me nervous...I missed one of my flights home once. Being stuck was bittersweet because I had to wait a week to get the next flight but I got to spend an extra week with my sweetheart....haha...how could I complain about that. All I could do is smile. biggrin.gif

Remember to bring your marriage agreement with you...the hotel may want to see it.

He will be coming on October 30th. He will spend the next week helping his family pick olives from their farm. All of them have to work together 12 hour days for like 2 weeks to finish it all. They have a big olive farm.

I can't wait to leave the house to pick him up at the airport.....his flight will get in at 5pm Oct. 30th...I wonder what time I should leave..and I wonder how bad the traffic will be to get there. Its usually pretty bad getting to JFK...at certain times of the day.

I have to make some calls to try to figure it out...and get my butt in gear and get the house cleaned really nice so that when he sees his new home for the first time its as perfect as can be.

I am sosooossososo happpppyyyyyyy!!

My Recipe.

Boil boneless skinless chicken breasts in all spice salt and pepper til cooked. (Save juice)

Fry sliced potatoes (i make em in circles and fry til their 3/4 of the way cooked)
Fry Cauliflower Pieces til their semi soft (dont want em too brown)
*some put eggplant in it too, which you would just fry til brown

once all this is done. sprinkle some uncooked rice on the bottom of a pot. then layer chicken, then potatoes, eggplant, then cauliflower. dump rice over all of it. then add the juices from the chicken. i dont use measurements, i eyeball everything so my best advice is to pour the juices to cover the top of the rice by about 1/2 inch.

once its all in the pot. put it on the stove and bring it to a boil. once its boiling turn it on low and cover. You just steam could it the same way you would cook regular rice. Once all the juices are gone and rice is tender flip it onto a tray and voila. You have the easiest version of maqlooba ive ever seen.

note * some people fry the chicken, imo it makes it waaay too dry. also, you can sprinkle some pretty green stuff on it, almonds, whatever youd like...

Haha....I have Philly cheesesteaks here and there when I am in Philadelphia, its only 30 minutes from where I live...they are awesome!!!!

Nawal - I would like to see the chicken recipe if you would please send that one to me. Thanks for the first one...I am going to try it. Esmat gave me step by step instructions via cam tonight.....for his mom's recipe and I got it down now....she makes it with just onions, rice and chicken and the spice I think...from how he explained it. They had 12 kids so this was (and still is) a good thing for his mom to make that will feed everyone and is not expensive. She usually fixes a giant salad with it and bread along with hummus, olives, etc. Yummm, I miss her food!!!!

Middle East and North Africabeen having a long time on line affair in MENA
I have been addicted to VJ since I started using it for immigration advice. The information I have gotten here has helped me know what to expect and the people that I have met have been wonderful. We are all in the same boat, so to speak and that creates a common bond.

I usually just get on at work here and there in the day for a tiny break from work....I save nights for my honey (cam), house responsibilities, etc. then usually go to bed..by that time I am sick of being on computers (all day).

I don't get on constantly but it is very nice to know its here when I need it. It has been an invaluable resource as well as a great place to meet wonderful people and get a laugh! Not to mention the latest and greatest on what the NVC/embassy is up to with other immigrant cases...which sometimes helps us gauge our own.

Thanks to all of those that are on here constantly and help to manage the site for us. You guys and girls ROCK!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

I have a little more time to get ready...since my procrastinating husband just booked his ticket...he won't be here til Nov 5th..maybe I will make something similar for my room.

I have seen some similar things done in a magazine that Better Homes and Gardens puts out called "Do It Yourself".

Lisa - I am curious about the pleats....I have the idea down ok but don't understand how you got the pleats in there without any staples showing...whats your secret? haha

You have some great ideas...thanks!

Middle East and North AfricaMena house decorating in the U.S??
I plan on having 2 long cushions along the long wall and a short one on both ends of that on the other two walls to make 3 walls that have cushions. I will make a bunch of long rectangular pillows that can be used to rest your arm on when sitting or can be used for that and your back, feet, head to lay down, whatever. Esmat's mom has hers set up this way and its nice...a lot of extra pillows to be nicely stacked up when not used.

Similar to this...but this one just has carpet....mine will have carpet, then cushions along the walls and then pillows like this one.

In Jordan a lot of times they hang curtains outside on the porch to cover the front door...like at the entrance to the porch...I always liked that and want to do something similar at our home.

Inside I want to make an arabic living room after Esmat gets here....I think that will be so nice to have...we have two so we can still have couches in the first one and make the second one more arabic....the one we sit in the most. I just need to find the big long cushions.....anyone know where to get them for a reasonable price? I am thinking I could probably find them in Philly in the city somewhere relatively cheap...then just need to find some nice fabric and cover them. And need to find a coffee table with short legs....or make one from a regular coffee table.

Deb star_smile.gif

how are you planning on doing the arabic sitting area??

I like the idea of curtains on the outside too but i live in seattle wacko.gif nothing ever can stay dry here

If you have the time you can send via USPS pretty cheap in first class air mail. For a standard size letter it cost me 97 cents and it arrived in Jordan to my husband in 5 days...not bad!!

I would not send originals this way without some sort of tracking number which is not available on overseas regular first class mail...but it is very reasonable for sending copies...or a love letter!!

i´m wondering what you are all doing in preparation for the interview...Iknow it´s far away put we must gather evidence of a continued relationship right?
so my fiance and i are living together but no lease, the electricity and water and all is in his parents name not ours (and it would be hard to change) etc...
how can we prove we are living together in an engagement?
i´ve thought of photos, letters addressed to us both....and i can´t think of much else.
ANY IDEAS?
id love to hear em!
thanks guys
good luck!

Well what I am doing to prepare for the interview is having copies of my financial statements and copies of tax returns. Keeping copies of pictures everytime I see my fiance. I also am keeping copies of my plane tickets and his plane tickets. I guess since you are living together you should get alot of pictures with the date stamp on them showing you go out together. Take pictures with friends and family and bring the letters addressed to both of you smile.gif

We've moved back down to 430 on Igor's. Sigh. Ok, i'm ready for VSC to get back to work this week. Really. Maybe we'll get luck and they'll transfer some of our cases to CSC. They are so overburdened at VSC it's not even funny. They have to do SOMETHING. My suggestion is approve all the December files tmrw morning. That will give them a jump on January devil.gif

*kicks Uscis website too*
Why don't you touch me anymore? I know you're touching someone else. I just know it.... crying.gif

Hopefully not that the holiday time is over VSC will get back to full swing and kick out some NOA2!! I know I keep checking the NOA2 approvals list and the August Septemeber people are now being worked!!

Hopefully we will get ours soon!

I am semi-excited again. It looks like Vermont is waking up at least a little bit. The last few days have seen a nice amount of approvals, and Cali seems a little quieter....GO VERMONT GO good.gif

Why do I keep checking my account on the USCIS website, even though I know it is pretty much impossible that they have even touched or will even touch it for at least another month? Oh the toooooooooooooorture........ headbonk.gif

Don't beat yourself up over that. I bet we all do that, too; I know that I do! It's become ingrained in my morning routine even though I know that I shouldn't expect anything for a few more months.... wacko.gif

So right you are there Bono, it's become part of my daily routine as well... sometimes even more than once a day... so yeah, I have a spurt of depression every day when I check and it's the same as every other day blush.gif
BUT soon people, soon we will all be posting our approvals and looking back and laughing at how obsessed we were. laughing.gif it's human nature especially when you're heart.gif heart.gif

Well Ihave to say I am glad to hear everyone else checks the case processing everyday. I was starting to feel like a super stalker by checking my e-mail and the status off the website sometimes twice a day! I am sure the next few months things will start going our way!! Come on NOA2!!!

A foreign language teacher was explaining to her class that, unlike their English counterparts, French nouns are grammatically designated as masculine or feminine.

Things like ‘chalk’ or ‘pencil,’ she described, would have a gender association although in English these words were neutral. Confused, one student raised his hand and asked, “What gender is a computer?”

The French teacher wasn’t sure which gender it was, so she ivided the class into two groups and asked them to decide if a computer should be masculine or feminine. One group was comprised of the women in the class, and the other of men. Both groups were asked to give four reasons for their recommendation.

The group of women concluded that computers should be referred to in masculine gender because:
1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
2. They have a lot of data but are still clueless.
3. They are supposed to help you solve your problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have had a better model.

The men, on the other hand, decided that computers should definitely be referred to in the feminine gender because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay check on accessories.
