Hello Everyone

Has anybody heard of a Medical Fail at St. Lukes?

I do not mean finding and fixing some problem but a out right failure.

Something along the lines of Sorry but your not going!!

Some kind of non-correctable issue?

And what the problem was...

The IV case number is the MNL number that is in your NVC letter.

I could be wrong but...I dont believe the NVC number is the MNL number. The MNL number is assigned by the USEMB in Manila. However, the number on the NVC letter WILL work in obtaining your appointment.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

Not sure this is correct... I just got my NVC letter yesterday. It was actually mailed Jan 2nd but I was in Phil's with my sweety.

On my letter I do have the MNL number and it was assigned by NVC. I do not think Manila assigns and numbers...

We called for an interview about 2 weeks after USCIS sent out an email saying it had been sent to the NVC. We were told to call back in a couple weeks but called back the following week and was told that we were 'eligible for an interview'. If their workload is greater now, it may take longer but I'd keep checking back each week if I were you.

I was wondering if that would be the case.

Well I have a bit of experience with this, and we get similar winters here in maine with a month or two of sub zero temps. Spent some time with my fiance in Europe recently. We took one or two pics indoors of me in a tshirt and her in a winter coat. That's what she was wearing around the house when the fleece wasn't enough. Here's what I'd get. it might seem like overkill but I've never seen anyone so cold while wearing normal winter clothes, and it was barely even freezing. I can hardly imagine what she'd be like with going from 30 degrees to -20. And for those of you who think snow is cold, it isn't. Cold is when it's too cold to snow....makes freezing feel downright warm. Personally I'm gonna try to get out of here before arrives. She didn't much care for the cold and I'm tired of it myself.

Electric blanket
Long Johns
fleece pants
fleece shirts/sweaters(multiple, so she can layer them...indoors)
normal coat
great big fluffy down coat, as thick and long as you can find
snow pants
fleece neck warmer or balaclava
hats. one normal and one super thick wool
good gloves, and maybe even mittens 'cause they're warmer.
good big waterproof boots
warm slippers
tech wicking socks
thick wool socks
nice leather waterproofable boots dressy boots for around town
big waterproof snow boots for ploding through snow
those little elastic crampons for you can quickly slip on over your boots

That's everything I can think of. Probably not all completely necessary, but most of it would be get used and appreciated.

Excellent list.

I will plan on getting as much as I can before she gets here.

I have found that buying clothes is almost impossible as she is such a tiny girl. I got shirts once before in the smallest size I could find and when she sent pics it looked like extra large on her... crying.gif

We are few hours away from Des Moines in Illinois. We delayed the flight a couple weeks so Meryll would arrive in mid April. This allowed her to adjust to the cold weather more gradually through summer and fall. I had a down coat, gloves, hat, scarf, long underwear, and sweats ready for her arrival.

I plan to get as much ready in advance as I can too. I am about 45 minutes West of the Quad Cities. We might be close...

I am planning to have Shirr arrive mid to late March so its a bit nicer here at that time. She wants to see snow really bad and make a snowman so March should have good snow for doing that. And its all gone in a few weeks and then its Sping!!

I think it was frost and not snow. Hale happens, and up in Sagada, the temp does drop to freezing on very rare occasions. But actual snowfall, nah...?

When I arrived here, it was late summer. Everyone was in shorts, while I was in a jacket. They had the AC running, while I had a heater under my desk, also running. Adjusting meant putting up with the cold, and trying to get used to it, but up to now, I have my own heater under my desk (even after we've moved). The new wardrobe idea is great biggrin.gif but it's also important to learn how to layer clothes. I hate doing that cuz it means more laundry tongue.gif but it DOES work.

Also, just because "it doesn't feel that cold", don't let your girl leave the house without gloves. I went out once while hubby was at work, and didn't wear gloves because it didn't seem too bad. Oh did I regret that decision...

Oh yes, Layers is always a good idea. I do that myself when its really cold out. We had -10F this morning and it was also windy! I do not even want to think about what the wind chill was...

I hope you were not injured from the cold...

Cold is very unforgiving and will hurt you. The damage done is long term and does not heal well.

I 'am gonna have to call Bull$hit on that statement.

No way, No how.

Too close to the equator to snow.

Mountains are not high enough either.

I would have to question this as well...

While proximity to the equator is not contrary to snow. IE: Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa

I do not think there are mountians in the Philippines close to 20000 feet tall...

Re-posting. Forgot to type in message on my previous response...

I would say main concern is dry skin followed by cold weather.

For dry skin:

- Buy her lots of lotion. Lotion for extra dry skin....

For cold weather

- Verify her set of clothes and shoes first. Then buy the most appropriate clothes for your weather there.

Never heard of a woman complaining to new set of wardrobe. good.gif good.gif good.gif

Thanks!!

I knew about the dry skin issue. Really low humidity I think...

This post is addressed to all the ladies out there who have been in the States for a while.

The Philippines has no cold weather. Right now here in Iowa, I can set a pail of water on my front step and its frozen in the morning. Its like living in a huge freezer. ohmy.gif

I have spent some time in Baguio and its about the coldest place in the Phil's that I can find. And its not really cold...

So, now my question:

How do you gals adapt to cold weather?

Is there anything special I should do to prepare for my love to arrive here?

Its just not possible to crank up the furnace to 80 degrees.

What can I do to make my heart.gif love heart.gif comfortable and warm?

PhilippinesJust got off the phone with MISS LORRAINE
I just called and spoke to Miss Lorraine. Wonderfull lady.

She was not able to schedule an interview appointment for me but did confirm that all my papers were there and as soon as I was “Documentarily Qualified” I could call to schedule an interview. She said I was required to use the 1.888.877.9888 phone number.

Miss Lorraine said that if I had all the papers and forms printed then I was ready for the interview. Or rather Shirryl was ready.

I am really puzzled why I was told, when I called the embassy service line on Monday, that I needed to wait another 2 weeks...

Should I call back again right away to schedule or wait some more?

Thanks for any help here.

Hello All!

Now that I'm just patiently waiting for my visa to arrive right at our doorstep, I figure out to start packing my things already. In that way, I wouldn't be rushing to pack everything when I get to leave.

So, I just wanna hear the Do's and Don'ts in bringing stuffs..
I'm thinking of bringing along

1)All of my Nursing books (copyrights and photocopies) since I'll be taking my NCLEX on March there
2)My burned CD's of reviews and practice questions
3)Dried fish and bagoong (cover it newspaper and then tin foil) yes.gif
4)2 kilos of mango (a friend of mine said it's fine to bring as long as you'll declare it and pay appropriate tax) unsure.gif
5)Seasonings, (Pinakurat) vinegar
6)fragile religious images

Will all of these get through the airport?

Hope to hear from you..

You can NOT import Fruits and Seeds and may have a problem getting the fish past Customs. I am positive the Vinegar would be OK as long as the bottle is smaller than 375ml.

You are better off buying the seasonings after you get here. Almost everything is available on the internet these days.

PhilippinesTAAS NOO, PINAY AKO!
QUOTE (nickoftime @ Jan 14 2009, 07:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was amused last night that based alone on an opinion veiled with sarcasm that I posted in one discussion thread here, someone already extrapolated about the likes of me using Americans for the purpose of getting a green card and ruining the image of Filipinas. And I am now the enemy, hahaha!

I lost track of what were posted there and well, I am anymore interested to know. It however, made me wonder -

ONE: Why is it that there are SOME USC (read: males who have American citizenship) who easily think, conclude and/or accuse that Filipinas come to the US for the mere purpose of getting a green card? What I find it perpelexing is the fact that they, themselves have either a pending petition to bring their Filipina SO or have been with their SO who came here via K1, K3 or CR1. Is it not that the presumption why they filed their petition for their SO is because they really believe in true love and that when people are in love, they need to be together? Why then this seemingly standing assumption that Filipinas come to the US for the mere purpose of getting a green card? I find it really insulting to us, FILIPINAS!!!

TWO - What really is the image of a Filipina that has been projected to the world, in general and to the USC in particular? Is it the concept of Maria Clara as portrayed in Jose Rizal's Noli Me Tangere or that of Gabriela Silang who was a historical figure in the Philippines? Or should the Filipina image be taken in the context of the present setting or trend that Filipinas comprises about 70% of the work force in the Philippines so much that it could easily be concluded that the vast majority of the Filipinos are working women?

THREE - If the Filipina decided to work and be empowered by being financially independent, does it make her less of a Filipina?

Ah, I leave it to you, peeps. For now, I've got to go and be empowered not necessarily to overpower my husband but only to be what I have always been, an intelligent Filipina who knows my priorities as a wife, a mother and a woman, wink**

Well.... if the issues you point out were not problems then why does the embassy have so many people working to discover these things?

Why does the Philippines Government have counseling sessions that are required before a Filipino can leave the country?

As far as "If the Filipina decided to work and be empowered by being financially independent, does it make her less of a Filipina?"

I would say... yes, it does. It makes her an American woman. I have no desire in any way, shape or form for an American woman...

American women have forgotten that marriage is WE and US, not ME and I....

If you want Independence.... stay in the Philippines, stay single, why marry at all??

Why not marry a Filipino man if you want to marry??

You have your independence now... why do you even want to come to the United States?

Just a few random thoughts on this entire process...

Oh, congratulations on becoming an American woman, I will morn the loss of the Filipina...
