PhilippinesHer first job here in America!
Hello Everyone,

My beloved wife has started her first job here in America. Its only part time to start till her pregnancy gets a bit less stressful.
Now she can pay taxes just like everyone else! good.gif

She is working for a local day care in the nursery taking care of 14 new babies!!

What kind of first job did your SO do when she/he first got here in the US?

hi again,,, i just want to know about dealing the poverty guidelines. We are not yet filing the K1 visa but i just want to make it sure that everything is alright.. My fiance has two sons living in other state. Then, few weeks ago, they came at my fiance's place to find a work. In short, they are now living with my fiance. But I am sure, they will find their own place once they have settled everything in terms of their work activities..

My question is:

What if we file the K1 visa? does his sons will be counted as another household members although they were born form another state? which poverty guideline it will fall?

thank you very much..

All 3 times I came back from the Philippines, I arrived at both LAX and SFO. Everytime I was required to go through customs before I claimed my baggage. Every time I was out of customs and waiting for my bags too!!

I am working in an International Airport, as far as I know, before you get to your luggage, from the jetway, you will go direct to the immigration and lastly to claim your luggage at the Baggage Claim area.

Based on experience, I went to immigration first before claiming the luggage.

I agree with this. Shirr was never asked about any money she received from me. But she had all the paper with her to show it.

I do believe that her councel person decided to grant the visa when Shirr was asked about my birthdate and she replied "Today" good.gif

I had specially set up the interview to fall on my birth date! I figured it would do 2 things, one, make it easy for her to remember, not that she needed any help on that. And 2, show her counsel that she knew all the details about me.
She said her counsel's face lite up in a big smile as soon as she said "Today!"

A bit of reverse psychology never hurts!! good.gif

We are getting a little bit paranoid here....

those receipt was exactly what i shown for evidence for the initial I-129f filing plus phone logs and some picture and regular mail(very little) + receipts from trips there and it was approved, it will be same for the Embassy interview in approximate a month from now.
I doubt it will raise a red flag....i think there are OTHER issues that will raise a red flag like not remembering the day or moment of the engagement, not knowing particulars about you fiance such family, kids, divorce, job etc,etc

But in the end...do what you feel comfortable with and be calm and prepared for the interview...

Best wishes....

PhilippinesEmployment "Type" & K2 Visa's
Even as a contract worker you will still get a paycheck. As long as you have those pay stubs you should be ok. It shows that you have income.

I was not aware of any 'requirement' by any embassy that a person stay away from contract work...

QUOTE (Road 2 Peace Arch @ Sep 16 2009, 12:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My fiancée lives and works in Vancouver, BC Canada. Her 19 year old daughter lives in the Philippines. My petition for them has now arrived at the Vancouver Consulate from the NVC.

This week I have been in touch with the Vancouver Consulate regarding the K2 processing for the daughter in the Philippines and they will transfer the case to the Embassy in Manila once they have completed the K1 processing in Vancouver for my Fiancée. Good news.

My specific question regards my "employment" and how the Manila Embassy views it. Since the K2 Visa is a derivative of the mothers K1, this question about my employment may be moot to begin with but I'll ask it anyway. First some background. Like a lot of folks, I lost my job at the end of July. In the meantime, I've been interviewing and expect to have an offer by the end of this month or October 15th. I don't expect my employment to be an issue by the time my fiancée has her interview in November or December. Knock on wood headbonk.gif

My dilemma is really the type of employment I accept. In my field, software/IT, there are a couple of types of employment that can be pursued. One is as a full-time employee and the other as a "Contract" worker. I've always been a salary man vs. a contract worker but I like some opportunities presenting themselves now for a contract gig. I know the former is preferred or required by some Embassies and others regard the total package submitted for the I-134 as acceptable as long as you meet the guidelines. I'm wondering if there is a hard and fast rule at the Manila Embassy against "Contract" workers regardless of how highly compensated you have been in the past or would be in the future? Anyone have an opinion of how it really is in Manila? Again, this whole question may be moot since I would assume the Vancouver Consulate is really the organization that will make the determination on the K1 but I might be wrong. blink.gif

In closing, there is also the I-864 requirements later on to deal with and I will review those as well. Thanks.

I would suggest an early start. Others have arrived mid day and done well. It seems to be a matter of luck as to how busy St.Lukes is on any given day.

I would arrive at 7:00AM with some snacks and a light coat and plan to make a day of it. Wear flat shoes that fit well as you will be walking a lot.

Don't wait on the embassy to send you anything or you may get old. Go to this page and learn all you need to...Call them and see if they have your package yet and set an appointment.

http://manila.usemba...ov/wwwfk1en.pdf

This page is about Setting Appointments:

http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3238.html

Has she/he got all the paperwork ready yet, is the medical done.

Go to St Lukes -- send her a copy of the letter from NVC, email or mail your choice: it's walk in so don't worry best to go Tues-Thurs to avoid rush.
Medicals are valid for 6 months. Info about medical is at the wwwfk1en.pdf link above.

Check this site for more info on the visa process in Manila:

Check up on the CFO seminar he/she will need either before or after but definitely before he/she can LEAVE the country Look HERE:

PhilippinesLooking for a friend
Hi, I sure understand the financial troubles issue. Its not easy in the US at this time...
Do your best to work with your husband to get your AOS filed as soon as you can. I know that will make you feel a lot better for sure.

Also, because you have internet, get connected with your old friends back home by using Yahoo Messenger or MSN. If you have a web cam you can chat with your family and friends as well as see them. My Shirr uses her cam to chat with her family and all the cousins back home.

Maybe even get Skype setup. It has much better video for low bandwidth connections as might be the case with your friends and family at home.

I am sure many of the ladies here would be happy to connect an chat with you too. Everyone here is really your new family. If we don't all pull together here it becomes a very lonely place for sure. Hang in there. It does get better. I think the economy is starting to improve so hopefully your hubby will be able to get started on the paperwork for your AOS. In fact, maybe you can research what is needed and get things filled out as well as collect the information required and get it all set to mail in advance.

Find anything you can to use your time and I bet pretty soon you will find some friends and things will be better.

Take care, we all care about you!!

Oh yes, the salivating is driving her crazy!!
She also lost her taste for rice. I think this was the hardest part. Shirr really loves her rice. We have changed most everything to unscented now. She hates the house cause it 'smells bad'...

She has not developed any dislike for any people so I can be greatfull for that.

oh, she says that toothpaste smells really bad.

It seems that almost everything tastes really bitter.
Even something as basic as an antiacid... and her heartburn is driving her to tears... We got some sample pills from the doctor that really helped her but the insurance company would not pay for them until we tried everything else cause they were 'too expensive'...

I expect by the time we try everything else she won't need them any more... which I also suspect is the motive behind the insurance company balking at paying for them...

I was salivating most of the time, sensitive to smell and scents, I even hated my bath soap and shampoo and conditioner I have to change all of it to unscented. I dislike a few people all of a suddn... It was awful and a lot of it is because of the hormones. I keep throwing up since I was 2 weeks on the way until I was about 6 months. I guess maybe there is some genetic issues for the sickness cause many women never have any illness and some are so bad they end up in a hospital. Seems like Shirr is getting hit pretty hard.

How did you survive your first trimester?

Was it really bad or did you just sail through it?

Did you have the same problems on your second child?

Just looking for some thoughts from all who have gone through this before.

Philippinesmy fiancee is scared about the interview
One thing that Shirr and I did was to use the sample questions I found here on VJ. These were questions that others had been asked at their interview.

They covered things like family names and where they lived. Things about me. Our address here in the US and all such things.

We went over how she should respond. To offer her proofs to show she knew her stuff! She even had a small note from my mother telling her welcome to the family!!

But when all was said and done, she was not asked more than my birthdate and our address. But knowing all the answers made her much more at easy with the whole thing.

I am sure she will do just fine.

Congratulatons!! The next step will be to wait a couple weeks and start calling the NVC. I have not kept up with how slow or quick the USCIS is sending aprovals to the NVC.

It took them about 3 weeks to mail mine to Manila and for Manila to get it loaded into their computers.

Good luck and Speedy Journey!!

PhilippinesWaiting for my appointment letter from USEM
You or your SO should start calling the embassy now to schedule your interview. Our paperwork took about 10 days to arrive and get entered into the embassy computer systems.

Hello everyone,

I just want to ask if anyone here know where to take a Medical Exam for Australian Visa.

Thanks

This is the forum for Philippines, post in the one for Australia and you will get better responce.

Also I suggest you look on the USEm web site for Australia, I am sure your answers are there.

Good luck!!

PhilippinesSt Lukes did not keep her passport!!
I think if your interview date is very close to your medical date they return the passport so you have it at the interview.

PhilippinesSt Lukes did not keep her passport!!
Thank you for all the kind words.

Shir has been stressing a lot over this whole deal and I know its been hard on her.
I am still positive about this and try to best to show only encouragment but so many things in this entire process seem to change not only day to day but person to person.
It almost like the ordeal is designed to weed out any who lack courage and determination.

PhilippinesSt Lukes did not keep her passport!!
I am really worried.

St Lukes did not keep Shir's passport at the end of the first day. Nothing was said about something being wrong but she still has her passport.

Is this a problem?

How many people kept their passport till the second day??

Shir says she is scheduled to return for shots, she will get 3, I am thinking this is a good thing.

She is really depressed right now and I can't think of anything to say that would cheer her up...

hello to all vj friends,
i just want to share my happiness and experiences i have had when i was taking my medical last jan 26,28. it was a very long and boring process with the all the waiting and waiting me and my kids encountered. first day was like a a roller coaster. dont forget to bring your kids' immunization records and have it photocopied twice. they need that for their records. bring three 2x2 colored pics with white background and write your names at the back. have your appointment letter photocopied too cause they want that attached to your records too. hmm...lemme see what else? well i think im having braindrain...tired i guess...ill just post whatever else i think of. for now, i will get some sleep and thank god for helping us pass the medical exams. thank god we are all clear....next....interview....bye for now and thank you to all who have helped us so far.

Congrats!!! good.gif

I know its a big relief to have that all done!! kicking.gif
