PhilippinesVisa received today

My Fiancee received her Pass Port,Visa and Package today   The hard part of this journey is finished!
Does she have to go back to the CFO in Manila to get the stamp placed in her Pass Port being since this is where she took the class or can she go to the CFO in Cebu for this. Does it matter which one she visits?

Tell her to make some phone calls and find out.

I would guess, and its only a guess, that she would be able to get the stamp in Cebu...

Philippinessocial security card

if there is no immediate need for her ssn. it will be morepractical to wait til after you're married. remember though to do it NOT later than 2-3 weeks prior to her 1-94's expiration :)

Shirr got hers as soon as the marriage cert arrived. In any case, I would suggest you do not allow the I-94 to expire or you will not be able to get a SSN until she gets her GC.

To get a drivers license here in Iowa we needed at least 30 days left on the I-94 so maybe the SSN would also have the same restriction...

Philippinesfor the men with kids from an ex wife!!!!!
Sorry for all your troubles on this.

Sounds like your EX is still trying to come to terms with the divorce. All I can say is to keep the kids informed on what is happening and make sure they know both sides on all this.

As for why your EX is not interested in your older boy... sounds like she has decided he is too old to bainwash so she works on the younger daughter...

Give your EX some time. Sooner or later she will see the sillyness of her actions.

-Phil

PS: the one sure way to pi$$ of the EX, is to marry someone YOUNGER than she is....

Philippineswhen can icall for interview

An appointment letter will be sent to you right away when you have set up your interview schedule. You have to forward this appointment letter to your fiancee so she can print it and present one copy to BDO for visa fee payment. Another copy will be needed to show to the guard at USEM on interview day so she can enter USEM. Visa payment should be done before your fiancee will go to the interview schedule. This is as far as I know from my readings...

She will also need that letter to show the guard at the door at St Lukes for her medical.

I have found that for the past 2 times I was in the Philippines, the exchange rate right at the Manila airport was better than anything I found here in the states...

Make sure he has your cell number so he can call you from the pay phones inside customs.

Also, if I recall correctly, you do not NEED to wait across the street... When I walked out the exit doors after clearing customs, on MY right hand side, there was a waiting area just outside the fence, where my beautiful lady was bouncing up and down waiting for me.

PhilippinesHelp for a Friend
sounds like a perpetualiazion of the urban legend that the US is a land of milk and honey...

Hello fellow VJ'ers,

I would appreciate if someone here can give me an advice for a friend who needs help.

Here 's the story: She is now an LPR but had trouble left behind in the Philippines when she came here a year ago.

Her brother owed a big amount of money(in the Philippines) and my friend signed the paper when his brother borrowed that money from their family friend ,her as sort of a co- borrower.

They were not able to pay the amount as agreed in a specific time to be paid. The woman whom they owed the money threatened her(my friend) that if they will not pay they will have to file a case against my friend so her green card will be revoked and she will be deported.

Her questions are:

1. Is it possible that she will be deported because someone from the Philippines sue her for money her brother owed?

2. If they will file a case in the Philippines against her,,would she be deported?

Please any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

PhilippinesApplying for a passport for my daughter
Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of applying for a passport for my daughter. We are going to the Philippine Consulate in Chicago this next week.

I am confused about what forms I need. I have the application for a passport but it states I need a Affidavit of Support and Consent. I can't fine this form on the Consulate website.

Any suggestions on where I can get this form?

Also, I see many places on the forms that I do have were Certified copies of marriage certificates as well as Certified copies of Birth Certificates are required. That seems reasonable but then the forms also want copies of them. But on each certificate I have, it clearly states that it is illegal to make copies!!

What should I do here?

Has anyone been through this process in Chicago? Is there a place near the Consulate that I can get copies and photos made if some of mine are not correct?

My wife is also applying for a new passport with her married name. I noticed that both the passport form for my daughter and the passport form for my wife both state to include a stamped, self addressed, trackable, return envelope. Would I need only one of these to use for both applications or should I get one for each application?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

PhilippinesNeed help

Hi everyone! I have recently been in the dilemma of how to do my report of marriage and renewal of passport. Here is my story: My husband and I were married in Guam where he was stationed (we have a guam marriage certificate)...4 months later we left and relocated to Reno, Nevada. My question is...where do I report my marriage? Is it to Guam Consulate or the San Francisco consulate( which is the one closest to us now). Also, where do I renew my passport? I hope someone can help me please I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! =)

I believe you always go to the closest consulate...

Your Passport is renewed at the consulate as well.

Check the, I assume, Philippine consulate web pages for exact details.

Please provide some details about where you are from in your profile for people to correctly answer your questions.

PhilippinesPassport Renewal/Ammendment

Hello everyone!

I have a few questions about ammendment of passport to my married name. I'm a Philippine green passport holder which is valid until August 2012. I would like to ask if I do have to fill out both Passport Renewal form and Application for Ammendment of Passport Form? What are the requirements and fees? I already did my Report of Marriage. I am from Minnesota and I heard about the Consular outreach next week. Do I have to mail my application in advance or can I just do my application in person during the consular outreach? Do I have to include the application processing fees if I send the application by mail?

I tried to call the consulate in chicago's contact number but it goes to the voicemail. I hope anyone who went through the process can share some infos. Any help is greatly appreciated! Salamat!

Hi, Please PM me for details. Also read over the post I linked to.
We just finished this process this past week.

PhilippinesOur trip to the Chicago Consulate Offices

Two Questions:

Did you have to get a Visa to go from Iowa to Illinois?

How is the paint drying out there?

#1: Nope!! In Illinois the people from Iowa are wellcome. It not like Texas, where no one wants you.

#2: Paint does not dry here cause its to humid. However, watching the corn grow is a great spectator sport enjoyed by many.
PhiLandShiRFemalePhilippines2010-07-22 11:40:00
PhilippinesOur trip to the Chicago Consulate Offices
The things we did at the Consulate.

#1 Filed our Report of Marriage.
A.Because we were late in getting this filed, over the one year mark, we also filed
an AFFIDAVIT FOR DELAYED REGISTRATION.
This document is required to be notarized. Not sure why...

#2 Filed our Report of Birth for our daughter.
#3 Filed for a Passport for our daughter.
#4 Filed for Amend Passport after Marriage for my wife.

To find the Consulate was much easier than I expected. Right downtown is a large park called Millennium Park. This park is about 2 blocks in size. The park is built over the bulk of the parking ramp system.

Once in the park, go to the North West corner of the park. This is the corner of Michigan Ave. and Washington Ave. A Walgreens store is right across the street on this corner. You will see the Philippine flag from this corner of the park, next to the Walgreens store, to the left. If you have a stroller like we did, the rotating door into the Consulate will not be large enough to allow it to pass. If you go around the corner to the right from the Walgreens you will see another set of doors that will allow you to enter.

Parking was not a big problem as there is a huge underground parking ramp under what seems like, the entire downtown area of Chicago! Finding your car again, is another issue altogether… Parking payment is all done with tickets. You get one from the machine at the entrance and pay with a credit card at a payment machine when you leave. Always take the ticket with you so you can pay it as you head back to find your car. Always take the ticket back from the payment machine as you will need to use it in the exit gate machine so it opens the exit gates for you. I guess you could wait till right then to pay if you forgot to take the ticket with you but it seemed easier to pay at the point you head back to your car. If you really wanted to, you could also pay with cash but parking is so expensive that you would run out of cash pretty fast I think... I spent about $200 on parking alone but we also went to a number of the attractions there in Chicago. It appeared that $10 is a minimum charge for parking pretty much everywhere.

And NO, you can not pay the ticket as soon as you get it and think your parking will be just $10. There is a time limit on how long your paid ticket is valid. The parking authority in Chicago has NO sense of humor at all...

Once inside the Consulate, go to the desk and tell the staff person that you want to go to the Philippine Consulate. They will require a photo ID and point to a bank of elevators. Only 2 of which go to the 21st floor. There are no buttons; you just wait till someone comes down. These only take a minute or 2, the place seems really busy.

Go up to the 21st floor, as the doors open you will see the Philippine Consulate sign on the wall. Go to the left and through a door. There are 3 windows like at a bank. With the little hole in the glass and a slot underneath. The staff was prompt and very easy to work with. They helped me sort through all the copies of everything I needed for each submission I was making and insured that everything I needed was submitted.

We waited to sign everything till we were at the Consulate but the officer there just said to take them to the back room where my wife was caring for our daughter and have her sign them where he pointed, and to have me sign them too. After that, bring them back. He had seen us walk in so I guess he was not too worried about signatures… You may want to wait anyway...

I had taken 4 certified copies of our marriage certificate and 4 certified copies of our daughters’ birth certificate as well as 10 copies of each. The certified certificates both stated that it was illegal to make copies but I did anyway. The Consulate officers examined the photo copies and originals and assured themselves that no changes had been made and returned the certified copies! Not sure if that is normal or not but I now have lots of certified copies for later use.

The passport photos we provided for our daughters passport were the wrong size and needed to be replaced. The Consulate also wanted photo copies of both my drivers’ license and of my wife. Also a copy of her Green Card. We were directed downstairs to the 15th floor to room 1530. This is the office of Cal Travel Agency. A nice Filipino business that does everything from passport photos to finger prints to notary work. For $11 we got new photos of our daughter and quick copies of our licenses and Green Card.

I provided postage paid, tracked and addressed Express Mail envelope and was told to expect our daughters’ passport in about 6 weeks. We were told to pick up my wife’s passport at end of day. We picked it up the next morning as we were planning to visit some of the museums that afternoon.

All in all, it was simple and fast. The only word of warning I can give is to bring an assortment of $20’s, $10’s and $5’s. The Consulate required exact change for each submission.

If you have any questions about this please just PM me!

-Phil

Just make sure she has a good warm coat, hat and gloves and she will be OK.

Also promise her a shopping trip to get other items to stay warm and she will be in heaven!!

What part of Wisconsin do you live?

-Phil

I'm happy to read this, as Vicky will likely arrive here before the end of January, in Wisconsin. I've been a bit worried about it. It's one thing to be here all fall and winter and get used to the temperature change gradually, it's 80, then 70, then 60, then 50, and so on. It's quite another to get on a plane where it's 87 degrees and get off and it's -5.

I know Vicky's more than excited to come here, when I told her our papers were through the NVC and saw her smile on webcam for over an hour from ear to ear hehe.

I'm sure it will be fine, she'll be inside a lot anyway at first with no work permit and no driver's license. Once those things are done and ready it will be spring here anyway.

Thanks for the information. I will look for them this weekend.

-Phil

I guess it's actually Cuddl Duds with no "e" now that I look. We get them at JCPenney's. There are several styles. We've tried to find XS that they list on the packages but have never found them (even online). They run about 20$ for the tops and 20$ for the bottoms but we never pay full price. They're always on sale at Penney's.

Good Luck,

Kev_n_Jena

I wondered about that...

I guess I better keep her bare foot and pregnant from here on...

I know the answer why:) Because your wife is pregnant. Pregnant women tend to feel hot during their pregnancy.

:wow:, your wife should join the Polar Bear Club!!

Where can I get Cuddle Duds for my wife? What store did you buy them?

-phil

My wife handles the cold here VERY well. I bought her Cuddle Duds to wear under her clothes and she loves them. They are insulated underwear for women. She doesn't like the cold wind blowing in her face and always wears a scarf when it's bitterly cold like it is today. It was 4 below zero when we left for work this morning at 5am. Here are a couple pics she took herself the first winter she was here.

PhiLandShiRFemalePhilippines2010-01-04 15:21:00
PhilippinesDoes your wife think the US is too cold ?
I brought a small fleece blanket on my last flight to the Phils. The aircon can get really cold sometimes. My wife arrived here in Iowa last March and was really good about not complaining about the cold. I watched her closely and made sure she had a good coat and nice thick socks as well as gloves and a knit cap.

Summer arrived and she was pleased with the warmth. I was worried about this next winter but as of this past weekend, we had -9F temps all weekend long, she was complaining about how hot it was and kicking off the blankets.

Shirr told me she was not undrstanding why she was so cold the past Spring and not cold now even though it was so much more colder.

I think your wife will be fine if you get her lots of nice warm clothes. A good coat, some sweaters and good socks will make all the difference!!

-Phil

Thanks for your comments. Some of them were very funny.. hehe. Some of them reminded me of my wife. :)

I won't worry about it much then. I'm sure she will be fine after she is here for a while.

When I was getting on the plane in manila I saw some filipinos in winter coats bucked in the seats and I was thinking.. what the .. hehe.. I guess they were prepared for the air con.

I'll have to take her shopping after she's here since she has never worn socks and rarely has any long sleeve anything just like all filipinos.

It was funny on my Christmas visit when we went to the beach and it was full of people and I was the only white anywhere. I'm used to people staring by now but some people stopped swimming and were standing still in the water looking at me. It was pretty funny :)

Okay... Got it!... As for me, I will not send them money and will just tell them that I am having trouble here and I can't help this time. I must say that in general, Filipino families are a bit sucker with their family living or working abroad. They will always ask money no matter what, when you tolerate them doing that to you.

Anyway, this is just suggestion. What if you laid back a little bit, tell your wife not to send money when they needed it. They will start figuring things with themselves. Give them a lesson that you are not just picking-up money outside your backyard, you work hard to earn it, and you have your lives here to work on too.

Whenever we tell Claudeth's family we can't afford to send them money I imagine I see their eyes glazing over and then a little later they are asking for money again. It seems they don't listen to something that they don't want to hear blink.gif
