Philippineswhy do Pinays

My point is that if there was more intermingling among members outside just their regions, it would help negate any festering hostility towards one group or another. This thread and some of the responses is a case in point. There are a lot of VJ members from other regions that have a tainted view of Filipinas in general. While this regional subforum provides a sort of cultural safe haven, the downside is that it can also breed contempt. That's why it would help if Fil/Am, particularly Filipinas, would venture out into the other forums, especially in Off Topic, to help dispel any misconceptions as well as diffuse any contempt.

I would tend to disagree...

The few times I have wandered out to Off Topic I found most of it is swamped with politics... with both sides very firmly entrenched, each with little or no tolerance for opposing opinions...

What is not simply shouted to silence, dipped in ridicule or sarcasm, is dismissed as stupidity...

Its not a place I would suggest anyone go unless they are looking for a fight...

Pinays dont only marry white men...most of them marry Filipinos. Some marry blacks, latinos, chinese... any ethnicity. Pinays marry men, period.

Yup, even some of the men over there do that.... whistling.gif

However, there IS a difference when it comes to relationships. In general (and there ARE exceptions) white women in the USA have never experienced true hardship. They do not really understand the concept of community and relationships. They often do not appreciate discipline and sacrifice and are very materialistic. They are focused on careers and a new car - not on a husband and family. I am not even saying this is all bad - just reality. But they tend to be spoiled and driven by their careers. Relationships are a distant second for many. Consequently, it is hard for men who want a more traditional marriage and relationship to find a woman in the USA that meets their needs.

I will use you as example with my apologies. I initially thought your login name was a bit strange for a filipina. Now I see that you are not from the Philippines and it makes more sense to me. In fact, no filipina would use a name like that. They are too discrete, honorable and conservative. If that does not make sense to you then you really do not understand what a filipina is. What do you imagine that most people think when they read your login name? Immediately, I discounted as someone only interested in partying and selfish physical/material pleasures - someone who does not really understand relationships and the importance of family and relationships. That is absolutely typical for most women in the USA and is exactly why most of us appreciate the values, beauty (physical and otherwise) and unconditional love we found in the Philippines.

I nominate this for Post of the Year

Amazing Post, very well stated...............

Philippinesbuying the ticket for Pam to come here what does she need

is when you are walking to the terminals or that glass booth in the middle of the floor where the ticket counters are?

When entering the airport the ticket counters are directly in front of you. When I paid this fee I had to go to a central desk, sort of in the middle of all the ticket counters.

The ticketing agent will direct you.

No need to worry about that!! :)

PhilippinesSeattle / Being Sick / Veggies

sorry to hear your not feeling well..my thoughts to you is to get your sore throat checked out though..I am a nurse and my thoughts to you is get a strep test..not to scare you or anything but if left untreated, it could get very serious..i know you may not have insurance and it would be a little bit of a burden to you, but its worth getting looked at..I hope you feel better, and enjoy your new life..but please go to a clinic and have them treat you..good luck..

I agree with Raven on this. Get that sore throat checked!! I am sure there are public health clinics that would charge little or nothing.

Strep is not a pretty thing if left untreated.

Have your Hubby get a humidifier for your bedroom, that will also help a lot!.

PhilippinesDoes Fiancee need Bank Account ?

My wife to be has a friend that has a relative applying to K1 and she told my fiancee she needs a Bank Account in Phil for K1.

I never heard this before. You can walk into BDO to pay any fees I know.

I'm sure she doesn't need a Bank account but she asked me to ask you folks.. so I'm asking :)

We did not need one...

That being said, we did get one, so it would be easier to send money back to her family.

No where in all the K1 docs does it say you need an account.

If you wish to get one then do so.

What a pain!! Well, we didnt know that they would have her maiden and married name on one clearance, (although it is kinda weird how they have it on there) so we had them do a clearance in Mhay's maiden name only. I didnt want to have an RFE for it. So now we have the NBI clearances and police clearances (one in maiden and one in married name also)

dito ko na lang ipopost, for some reason, i feel at home here,

we got our marriage license yesterday, and yes, this is it, we're finally getting married, i should really be happy, its just that, there are still some few things that bother me,

during my almost two months stay here in the US, i can say that its okay overall, we had arguments which i think is just normal since we are still in that "adjustment stage," anyway, i just want to ask for some opinions,

before he met me, he was living with his now ex-wife and her daughter, or his step daughter, he lived with them for more or less 14 years, and i understand if he loves his step daughter so much, and there is nothing i can do to change that, and i wont,

okay, eto yung nagpapangitngit ng kalooban ko, he still have a "family picture" of them together around the house, and he has this photo of his step daughter pinned at the center below his monitor, his password is his step daughter's name, my computer password is his step daughter's name (for heaven's sake!) since he was the one who set it up,

i dont know, i guess im just jealous, i havent brought that topic up with him, i dont want him to think that i feel insecure or just being childish, but i am really jealous, punyeta ako nga hindi nagdidisplay ng picture ng ex ko or ng kahit anong makakapagpa alala ng ex ko eh!

im sorry but i just feel terrible, i mean, what if magkababy na kami, kelan nya pa aalisin yung mga pictures nila, pano pag lumaki yung bata at marunong ng magtanong, "nay sino sila?" at pano ko sasagutin yun? hay naku!

lapit na kami ikasal, and dont get me wrong, we love each other so much and i cant imagine myself without him, kaya lang yung mga isyung katulad nito, hindi ko lang maiwasang hindi magdamdam,

HI there,

As what above posters said, talk to him! Tell him how you feel about it. If there is a picture of the ex wife and him around the house I think in my opinion that should be kept and buried but if it's just the daughter and him maybe you can just leave that there. I don't think he will be very insensitive when you guys have your own kids and when you tell him how you feel. I understand the feeling of insecurities and fine if he'll call it being childish.. To start a new beginning is to vanish all the hurtful memories of the past.. if those pictures bothers you a lot then tell him to keep them away from your sight.

I saw lots of "old" pictures here of my husband and his ex even the ones during their wedding... I just threw them away. It was long kept in the cabinet anyway so I told him I'll put them all in trash and he doesn't care. But pictures of his kids I post them all everywhere. I love them.

Best Wishes to you and have a happy married life! Speak up because if your husband is white then he needs to hear it. Some of them needs to be told first before they can realized its bothering. Enjoy and have fun on your wedding day!

By the way if you want to shout then SHOUT by all means then if he'll ask you why then start the sentiments..

Vida Taylor

I think the best advice here is TALK! If you do not say anything about how you feel, how will he ever know?

Speaking your feelings is so very important in any relationship.

No man wants to live in a vaccuum so always be willing to speak out about the things that bother you.

After all he is the man you fell in love with so help him to understand your world.

I am sure he will love you even more for that.

PhilippinesAny Filipinas in east Nebraska?

My wife just moved here this past month and I'm wondering if there's any Filipina's around the east Nebraska area like Lincoln and Omaha. The town we live in probably doesn't have a single Filipino family living here. I'm sure some people on here can relate to that feeling.

We live in eastern Iowa. Also tends to be lonely but there is a large group of Filipino's in the Des Moines area.

Google will find them.

Congratulations!!

Sometimes, something as simple as writing it all down, makes a world of difference.

Your Filipina is a smart girl, hell they all are! I know my sweetie sure is!! She can work the numbers just like anyone.

She was a bit shocked, when we went over the bills the first time. Paying the mortgage every month was met with a stunned 'Every Month?!?!?'

When I responded with 'Yup! Every month for the next 25 years!!' I got stunned silence.

The realization that EVERYTHING in the US is, bought, taxed or requires a fee, was a real earth mover.

The Land of Milk and Honey concept was quashed rather quickly...

Now, she still wants to buy more that I think is needed but then, I was never spending money for more than one pair of shoes a year... :)

-Phil

All I have an update.

So after arguing about creating a budget last night I went to the Gym and then came back to the house after an hour. When I got home she started to create a budget like I asked and we finished it on an Excel Spread sheet. Basically once we really put down how much we spend a month she realized she cant keep most of her money to her self.

I'm pretty sure our budget will still need some tweaking (example food is only 200 a month which i think is to low) but for now we agree'd on that she can keep 388 a month for purely her wants and to send money to her family. This is definitely a huge step in the right direction. I am okay with her sending some money to her family and she can have some spending money for herself since it seems very important to her. She went shopping alot in the Philippines before she came here. so i guess its something she grew to love and it reminds her of home.

Unfortunately with this budget I really don't have any spending money myself but its fine. I don't really buy to many Wants as it is. maybe a new pair of shoes every year or a couple ps3 games and thats pretty much it.

Thanks again everyone for you responses. I really appreciate it. I actually mentioned to her that alot of Filipino's disagree on visa journey about this being culture for the guy to pay everything if both are working and that her money is her's and not ours (and of course my money is also ours). Not sure if she actually read this or not but maybe that also helped with the situation. Thanks again.

Philippinesearly checkin for morning flight...

Hi VJers,

I am flying with my fiance to Seattle on April 3. We're on delta and the flight leaves Manila at 840am. We will be flying in from Davao the night before around 5pm. Recommendations on what I should do for a night? She also needs to pick up her CFO sticker at NAIA. They are supposed to be open 530am-midnight. I am not sure if Delta would let me check in the bags ahead of time (night before). I really don't wanna blow extra money on a room for a few hours. Need that money for the wedding. HELP!

Last time I flew in from Manila, I had a connecting flight the next morning. The US airline told me they would not accept any luggage more than 4 hours before the flight left the gate.

PhilippinesWife Finally Coming Home! Re: JFK Immigration
First let me say Congrats!!!

I think, mind you this is only a guess but I think, you could meet her in the baggage claims area... After she exits the immigration area.

You would need to ask the guards at the airport.

Good Luck!

-Phil

I have a question for those of you who have had a loved one come through the JFK POE. Can I meet my wife before she goes before the immigration officer or be present at the time she sees the immigration officer? I'm interested in the mechanics of it.

Last time I was at JFK I was a boy. I don't remember anything so... I visualize driving to NYC to JFK... parking in some parking lot... then I head to arrivals... find her flight number and gate number... This is where I draw a blank.

Since this is an international flight I'm sure I just can't go to the gate itself and finder her stepping off the plane... go to baggage claim and drive home... too easy Posted Image

Do I seek some employee or official to some "secret area" for spouses or fiances?

Thank you for sharing your past experiences!

My sweety will be here March 24th! Wooohoooo!

He sure can! You will need a Social Security Number.

He will not be able to deduct any of the costs involved in the visa though...

Hey all!

First of all, I wanna greet everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I hope everybody who is with their loved ones had a great time during the holidays!
And to those who are not, just hang in there and you will be with your beloved soon.
Anyways, now that it's January, everybody is preparing the forms needed for their taxes.

I'm wondering if it's possible that hubby can claim me in his taxes?
I'm currently unemployed with a 2-year Conditional GC.
If yes, is there any papers that we need to present with the filing of taxes?

That's all!
Your replies are greatly appreciated!
Have a good day!
