I talked to a guy at NVC to find out steps and what to expect after sending AOS and DS3032.  I asked him when I could expect to be invoiced for the IV app and he said it can already be sent in for review even before I am invoiced for the IV...said just send in the same cover sheet from when the AOS is paid.....  I really WANT to get it sent to get things going....but Im nervous there will be a hold up since it 's not paid for yet.... Has anyone done this with success??

I feel they have slowed WAY DOWN....I've been told the 30 days as well and I'm getting told different things by different people too as far as the DS 260.  I'm just going to fill it out regardless now.  Very frustrating!  I thought we were so close and things keep pushing us back.

We were approved Nov 20....and LOTS of people were approved that day...from what I see on here, many people are approved, so not sure who is saying this, but I have not witnessed any proof of it.

Wow! 13 months! Atlanta seems to consistently beat NYC, Boston, and some of the other super-slow offices for the title of slowest in the country!

May I ask if you guys had any special issues that caused a delay or was it just Atlanta being Atlanta?

 

At the interview,we were told that the background check from the FBI was not back yet.  That was the week of Thanksgiving last year.  We called this spring and received an update and letter that our case was still in process.  They never said anything specific.  My husband did have a now 7 year old DUI arrest (which was reduced to reckless driving/probation).  But that happened before the green card and was not a problem or delay at the time of the green card.    Other items we wondered about were:  he had a name change as a child when his stepfather adopted him around age 10;  he had a divorce and then a remarriage to me after the green card... he has missing fingers from a birth defect which may have caused special review of his biometrics.... he travels extensively for work including many international trips... but we really don't know.  He had a very normal and brief interview and they did not request any more information from us at the interview other than a list of international trips he had taken between the application (July 2013) and interview (November 2013).

 

It does seem like other people with unusual items in their history may have also taken longer.  At any rate we are delighted.  We were very close to reaching out to our Representative.  The letter states that he can expect an oath ceremony within 45 days.

Wow, we JUST today got the emailed case update that we are in line for an oath ceremony!  Thank goodness!  After 13 months!  For at least six months my husband has been making little comments like "Well, it's too bad they don't want me," etc.   I bought a ton of American themed decorations after July 4th - I knew it couldn't be much longer!

Interview notice/letter received: 10/18/13

Interview date:                 11/26/13

 

Interview today was a bit disappointing.  We arrived 20 minutes early for the 9:00 appointment at the Atlanta office.  We had no wait at security.  We did have over a 90 minutes wait in the holding area, which was surprising to us since the appointment was so early.  Of course, it?s a holiday week.  He was not called back until 10:30 am.  He was gone for the interview about 40 minutes.  Everything went fine with the questions.  He was asked: What is freedom of religion?  What ocean is on the east coast?  Name one state that borders Canada.  How many senators are there?  What year was the constitution written?  What is the age for selective service?  He then read out loud, ?What are the colors of the flag of the USA?  He then wrote ?The flag is red, white and blue.?  The officer asked him several questions to confirm the information from the application.  My husband said that he had travelled out of the country since his application.  The officer said the application could not be approved today because the security clearance was not back yet.  He also gave him a form to fill out and mail in to update his application with his trips taken in the past couple of months, even though my husband offered to update the form immediately as he had his passport with the dates in it.  He also said that there was no same day oath ceremony today.   We were really disappointed that he wasn?t fully approved and wouldn?t be sworn in today.  I don?t understand why he would be scheduled before all the information was back.    However he was told that there would not be any more interviews, that once the security clearance was back and the updated list of travels was back, he would just receive a letter with his oath date and time.

 

For anyone that has an arrest record, it might be helpful to you to know that a six year old DUI (1 year prior to green card) arrest (not conviction) did not cause any issues for the officer of either the green card or the citizenship.  We had answered the question honestly and provided the citations, the court documents showing the outcome ? which was reduction in charge to reckless driving and probation, and a letter showing the probation had been completed.

 

Although we had received a yellow letter requesting us to bring some of the same documents already submitted, the officer did not look at any of these documents.  He only checked my husband?s ID and for the rest of the interview referred to the packet we had sent in our initial application. 

 

We also received an email about an hour after we left confirming that additional documentation was required and should be submitted per the letter we received, etc.

 

Anyway, hope it?s all final early next year.  We?re not holding out hope for finishing in December, although we were told it should all be done within 30 days as long as we submitted the travel updates promptly.

Biometrics finished today! We were able to walk in.  However it was very busy and we were there just over 3 hours.  Everyone was courteous and let us know up front it would be a long wait as they would take the appointments first.  It was no problem at all to walk in early due to the work trip on the appointment date.  They offered that we could come back in an hour but with a 30 minute drive, we elected to stay and wait.

Anyone other Atlantans recently been placed in the oath scheduling "que"?   We got a letter last Monday 8/4 that my husband is in the queue for oath scheduling.  We are about to go insane for this process to be over.  We hope he might get into a ceremony during my parents visit around Labor Day (in 3 weeks). 

 

Please post your recent experience with oaths in this office.  We aren't doing any name change or anything like that.  It's now been over 13 months since we applied!

I just married my husband in December in the DR and we are now going through the I-130 process.  It was quite a process to get all the documents prepared and translated and get the apostille seals.  You do have to be divorced for 10 months before the DR will let you re-marry, unless, like stated above, you are marrying the same person you divorced.

Where do I get 3032 form that he will email? I assume he prints, fills it out and signs it? Where do I email this form?

Is the affidavit you are referring to the affidavit of support (I-864)? This is what's next after paying the $88?

Is the ds 230 form coming with the packet the nvc sends or do I get the form online?

Hello everyone!  

 

Our NOA2 was approved May 10th, 2013!!!!!! YAY!!  I have looked through the info that has been posted on here and I am still a little confused as to what to be doing RIGHT NOW.  Is there something I should be doing while it's on it's way to the NVC?

 

I'm concerned about anything they might be mailing him because the mail system is horrible in the Dominican.  I thought I read somewhere that he can get his info through email, rather than mail.  Is this true? Or are they even going to send him anything?

 

I read that in the Dominican they should wait until 30 days prior to the interview to get their police report.  Anyone know anything different?  He has lived in a few different cities since the age of 18, does he have to go to each city to get one or does he have to go to Santo Domingo and it will cover everywhere?  

 

Anything else I should be doing NOW while waiting to get something from the NVC or is it just a waiting game at this point?  I thought I read to call NVC after a week to get a # but I wasn't sure the reason for this. 

 

I appreciate any input you can offer....I know these answers are probably already on here, but I have looked and these are the things that are not clear to me at this point after the research I have been doing.  My head is spinning at the moment from everywhere I have been looking for these answers.

Hello!

 

I went to get info on changing to my married name on my passport and I missed by 1 month being able to do it for free.  crying.gif   Now the charge will be $110 to just add a hyphen and my married name to my maiden name (keeping maiden name to match my son's).  Will this be a "red flag" at the interview?  My thought process is I will bring other things with my married name on it (pay stubs, bank accounts, drivers license, etc) but I just can't justify that amount right now with all of the other fees involved in getting him here.

 

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone.  I think I will just slow the process a little to ensure NOT getting an interview date in August.  If so, I would not want my case complete until probably early August just to make sure.

I have a court date for a personal injury case that I worry will fall right around the time that we may get an interview date.....is there any way to request our interview date NOT fall on the same date?  I really don't want to continue this case as it has been a LONG going process and I would like it to be over!!!  The court date is August 30th...I am still waiting to get my NVC case #...It was approved at USCIS on May 10th, so hoping case # will be available soon.

 

If there is no way around it and it ends up getting scheduled at the same time, I will just have to continue the case.  I don't want to, though, as the settlement will help with expenses to get him here and keep us afloat until he starts working.

Congrats on your wedding!  It took a little over 4 months to get the NOA2 approval...now it's been over a month for NVC to receive it and I am getting ready to fax the NOA2 approval in hopes that they can figure out what is taking so long to get this show on the road!!  ranting33va.gif
