K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	NVC Computers down	What do they actually do at the NVC? Of all the steps the NVC appears to be the weakest and most mysterious step. Someone, on the forums, said it is only a formality when K1 visas are concerned. We want our wedding to be in the April, but if the NVC takes as long as others are reporting, we will not make it. Yours is properly with it so give the DOS a call and ask as that's what I did. The status on the NVC page still says 'AT NVC' but man on phone said its as just sent it so that will change shortly. I was just logging in to message you! The status on the website updated for our case about 10 minutes ago to 'In Transit!   Exciting stuff! Thanks! K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	Is it too early to start calling the NVC?	I didn't know we could book it so early! What do you need in order to book a medical? I thought they had to have your papers at the Embassy?   If we can book an appointment this early that would be fantastic for me, being able to space the appointments out would make my life a lot easier, as I will have to travel almost 700 miles (the joys of living in the Hebrides.) Minnescota, when you ring the Knightsbridge doctors they require your embassy case number (beginning LND) before they will let you make an appointment. You also need to be in possession of your police certificate.   Whether I have done the right thing by booking so early I don't know. Hopefully (fingers crossed) London will receive my case before my medical on the 23rd. I've booked my medical for the 23rd January as I'm down in London on other business and it will save another 300 mile trip / £80 train fare. I just hope that I haven't booked it in too soon. They said it was not received and won't be for about 4 weeks at moment so I'm going to call again next Friday as that's the 4 week mark for us.   Thanks for the update :-) I think the USCIS website gets updated when the petition goes from 'approved' to 'shipped'. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	November 2013 filers?	Hi Darwood!! I dont know how you applied for state ID, but i could not produce anyone! In in California and INdiana you still have to waiting for your green card to be ready! Social card is possible, but with only working authorization, will say on the front. So I have been waiting for this such a long time, for get such a previldge making ID,... I got here in February, and I still dont have status, i dont drive, but you can open bank account anytime, you need your passport! I cannot wait my green card, and shout out!!! finally, i can get insurance, id card, and live happily ever with my American Husband!   It's amazing how things are different state by state isn't it!. Chase told me no bank account without a state issued ID period. A friend in Vegas got a Chase account without a State ID no questions asked. Often it depends upon the person you get.   I've been lucky to get a state ID card, SSN, health insurance, buy my own car, get car insurance (using my British driving licence) all pre green card.   My state ID has now expired though but I'm going to try and extend it once I get my EAD card. Here's some practical info that may be of use in terms of 'what next'...   1. Go to your local social security office and apply for a Social Security number. It's key to loads of things here. There's a guide on this website about how to apply. It recommends you wait 2 weeks before applying, I waited 6 days and had no problems and the card arrived 4 days later.   2. Apply for a state ID at your local DMV / BMV. This is another major step and will make the process of opening a bank account much easier. The card they will give you will probably expire on the same date that was stamped in your passport yesterday. You won't be able to extend that date until your receive EAD / AP card.   3. If you don't have any set marriage plans and if it suits your circumstances get married sooner rather than later. I emailed the embassy to ask them if I could have email confirmation of my date (since London is sometimes slow sending them out, and there has even been cases where the letters were never received) and they emailed me this morning, telling me the date and saying they mailed it yesterday I kind of wish I had more notice, but thankfully I don't live TOO far from London, only about 3 hours by coach. As if I had to fly down from like Scotland or something it would be real short notice for a flight or something like that! Otter, sorry me again. I'm going to email the embassy. I looked at my case status on the USCIS website but no info on updates...   Click on 'Sign into my account' on the left hand of the page and its on the next page displayed.
