He has tried the number. Said it was an info line and he couldn't find a way to get in touch with a real person. :(

Figured as much, but worth a try I guess.... sucks they shut us out like that :(

So he emailed the Consulate (since he can't find a phone number to talk to a real person) and asked about it. We're waiting on that reply.

Probably a stupid question, but here goes, lol... Have you tried the number listed here on VJ??? +649 303 2724. Extn: 2180

Appologies in advance if you have :)

Hey guys, just want to confirm something with the I-134... Forgive me if it's been answered before but my search yielded nothing aussie specific.

My fiance only started working full time a couple of months ago and makes over the poverty line but just as a backup his father is co-sponsoring. Neither of them are self employed, yet I am reading all this stuff about having their tax returns 'just incase'. Is this really necessary if I have paystubs/letter from employer and bank statements? The USCIS instructions are clear on only needing them if the sponsor is self employed. Has anyone in a similar situation been asked for them before?

I should really stop over analysing - reading VJ makes me extremely paranoid haha..

TIA! x

I know what you mean about the paranoia LOL  Even though the tax records aren't needed, my fiancee is sending her w2 forms to me anyway... we figure better to have them and not get asked for them than vice versa.

From the way she described them to me, they sound a lot like our aussie group certificates, and I am pretty sure she was able to photocopy all three onto just one page. No experience with this myself either yet, but for what it's worth, I'm taking them :D

Start here: Ticker Factory Fill in the various fields and once you get to the end it will give you a bit of html code. copy and paste that into your signature and it's all done once saved :)

Approved!!! Well, approved pending clear police checks. Which, they will be clear. They are supposed to be due today... so I think he is going to try to call to check in on them.

He also has to send the Consulate his passport.. He was supposed to leave it there today, but he is planning a trip to New Zealand this month. He is giving a month's notice at work tomorrow.. so his trip to NZ will be completed before he flies over here. I'm a bit nervous about sending his passport to the Consulate... like, what if he doesn't get it back before his planned trip?

But yeah... approved!! :)

Congrats!!!! nice to see people from here in Aus getting approved :) Just hope I'll be one of them too. Manage to figure who the other person at the consualte was yet?

Hi guys :) I am going through the checklist that is page 7 of form DSL-1076 and am confused about some thing... The form asks for the following:
Medical records – originals only
is this a) my entire medical history from all the doctors i have ever been to? or b) just the medical records that pertain to my medical examination with Dr. Millar????

Kind regards,
Wayne.

Hey I'm a QLDer (well was lol). I had mine sent direct to me and posted it onto the Consulate with the rest of my packet 3 forms when the time was right.

Still waiting for mine to come back, be another couple of weeks I think? Reading the consulate website, it says that NSW and QLD police reports get sent straight to Sydney Consulate but as CareBear said, she got hers sent straight to her. I will update this if anything changes with mine, but at this time as far as I know, mine is coming straight to me.

Dave and Shannon... Update for you - my police report arrived in the mail this afternoon, seems I had no problem getting mine sent straight to me. As for timeframe, it took 14 days (submited about 11pm on the 10th of this month, so 13 days kinda sorta)

Hey sorry to butt in on this topic.. but is paypal cheaper then using travelex cards? I have been using travelex cards to put my savings into, i loose about $20-25 depending on rate out of $400 on a weekly basis.. is paypal cheaper then that? if so i might get my mrs to set up an account for me and do it paypal way...

and another question... is there any qlders out there that have got there police check done??????? i have read that victoria and other states can get there report sent to them and take it to there interview with them but for nsw and qld people we have to get it sent to the consulate.. which makes no sense to me at all... Im just wanting to get it done before my approval so it wont hold up my process as it can take up to 28 days to get.. cheers

The nsw form allows you to nominate who and where the report gets sent to... I put my own details on it, the officer read them and didn't have a problem with it.

Okay, so here's a random question... What's the best way to transfer money from an Aus bank account to a US one? Apparently my bank isn't 'big enough' and doesn't use a SWIFT code. And if I get I get a bank account at a 'major US bank', and he transfers the money to me, I don't have to worry about getting in trouble counting that as income for taxes, do I?

Or can he open a US bank account without a SSN?

I opened a second account with my bank, had them issue me a visa debit card and sent that to my fiancee in the US. Now anythime I need to transfer funds to her, I simply use my internet banking to transfer between accounts (free and instant) and she withdraws the cash from her local atm machine.

Hey everyone,

It has been a long time since I have logged in. I am glad to read everyone is loving life in their new homes. Life here has been hectic as always. After my medical issues were resolved life returned to the usual rushed pace that it has had since I started working. The only difference was instead of working part time my work had me working 40+ hours every week and with Eric on 3rd shift and Bek in school I was not seeing my family a great deal. The kicker came when Bek told me she felt abandoned because I was working 6 days a week and Dad was sleeping through the day because he worked nights. I went into work that Monday and told my boss I want back to part time hours from 8-1 and every other weekend off. He was fabulous about it and finally got the district manager to approve hiring of support staff. I am now loving my hours and enjoying life with my family once again.

This winter has been beyond brutal. I am permanently numb with how cold it gets lol. I know most people on this thread are used to the cold from their home countries but this Aussie girl is not used to it in the slightest. I had never seen snow until I got here let alone had to drive in it or plow a driveway. Though it was fun to build my first snowman, have a snowball fight & wrestle in the snowbanks. I am just looking forward to spring!

Hope everyone else is doing as well...It is almost my 1 year anniversary of arriving in Ohio to be with my husband and I truly can not wait.

Bek has started on the track team at school so that is another activity that keeps us all busy and sadly she is starting to lose her accent :( I knew it would happen but I am kinda sad it is happening so soon. She just celebrated her first birthday here in the USA and she had a blast.

I have to say I have not had a rough time here at all...everyone has been wonderful that said my family back in AUS have been giving me guilt trip after guilt trip since I left. I am to the point of not bothering to keep them updated on what is happening. Nobody back there even bothered to send Bek a birthday card this year and when I asked why they didnt I was informed that they work and are too busy to mail a card. So I have said that if that is the stance then I wont be mailing cards either as we work and lead very busy lives here. I hate to be that way but I am truly tired of the stress this causes every single time.

Anyway, I have rambled enough. Best of luck to all those waiting at whatever stage of the process you are at...the stress is so worth it when you step off that plane & fall into your loved ones arms & you know you wont ever have to be apart again.

Hey :) An Aussie in Ohio huh??? I'll be the same soon, just waiting for NVC to finish with our file and get the consular stage finished, then I'll be moving to Dayton to be with my girl :)

Gongrats to you guys for all your successes so far, and best ofluck for what you have to come. Hopefully I'll be settled in as a ohio resident real soon :)

Congrats! B-) can't wait to be doing that myself

Got all the results in the mail the other day. The DS-2053 - which is the form Dr Millar filled out when I was there. They even sent over the blood results for my records. So I'm pretty sure I have all I need.

Oops sorry I meant full immunisation records/not full medical. I guess unless you have any major health problems you don't need to bring anything else with you :)

Hey guys, had my medical today. Thanks for the info Vanessa&Tony - although I wish I had read it before I went lol. Didn't get a copy of the medical woops. X-Ray and blood test were in the same building, Dr Millar is awesome - reminded me of my grampy. He told me Obama called for me but I hadn't arrived yet and when I told him I was getting married said it wasn't too late for him to 'fail' me.

All went smoothly, wasn't even asked for a case number and I was told I should get my results in a weeks time :) $338 gone in a flash! Yikes! Now I sit tight for NOA2.

Happy friday everyone! x

Maybe if you call Dr. Millar you can get a copy of the form mailed with your results??? Also did you need to provide your full medical details/history to them? I have lived in a lot of different places, getting my full history if needed is going to be a big issue.

Best of luck at your interview when it comes up :)

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry if this is not the correct place to post this question but I was wondering as an aussie expat living in Germany, does the australian police certificate get sent directly to the appropriate consulate/embassy when requesting the police certificate or does it get sent to you and you have to bring it to the interview? Or is police already required when NVC is requiring the documents before forwarding to the consulate?

I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Looks to me like you can get it sent anywhere??? I went to the link provided by Vanessa&Tony, Question 4 on page 2 reads:

4. Mailing Address for Police Certificate
Is the Police Certificate to be posted to your current residential address? Yes No
If NO: I authorise the Police Certificate to be forwarded to the following person/organisation:

Question 3 is your current residential details, and if you tick no, theres another set of boxes to fill out Name, address ect...

Just following up on the medical thing...

Following the call I made to Dr Waks and a quick whine to my SO - I decided to try Dr Millar's office. The lady was lovely and said that I didn't need a case number. She booked me in for this week which I was absolutely amazed at. It's going to cost me $338.00 unless I need more vaccinations (which I am 99.9% I won't need). She informed me I'll need to have a urine test so come with a full bladder  , bring eye glasses if I have some, full vaccination record, 3 x passport photos, my passport/s and the fee. She told me expect to be there for about 1 1/2 hours.

Relieved I can get it over and done with as I thought it would take at least a few weeks for the appointment.

All the best with yours Wayne+Rachel.

Vanessa&Tony Posted Yesterday, 05:22 AM

Couple of notes:
1. Make sure they give you a copy of your vaccination record and,
2. ask them if they would kindly provide you with a COPY of the medical because of the RFE's that people sometimes get due to lost medicals. They might not so ask them if they at least keep a copy for their files and if they do and you get an RFE if they would accept an emailed copy of the RFE to email you a copy of the medical...

Like I said, they might not allow the copy of the medical but it doesn't hurt to ask

Thanks so much for the info & best wishes guys... :)

Don't have to worry about my medical just yet, but I am trying to be prepared by being pro-active :) By the sounds of this I'll be going with Dr. Millar after all... maybe the receptionist I got when I went in was a new person???

Will sit tight for a little while, then get onto them a bit later. I kinda recall reading somewhere I have to obtain copies of all my medical records for the doctor and maybe the interview also... anyone else remember this too or am I imagining it?

Regards, Wayne. Best of luck to Curvebell and Vanessa&Tony :D

I was wondering if anyone can help!

I am awaiting NOA2 but was under the impression I could book and complete my medical. I live in Sydney so called Dr Waks' office and was told that I cannot book until I receive my case number. I'm confused. Doesn't the medical results last for 12 months?

Has anyone successfully booked and completed the medical prior to receiving NOA2? If so, which doctor did you see Waks or Millar?

Thanks in advance!

Hope everyone is well :)

MMM I'll be really interested to see the results here, as I will be in exactly your position soon, was thinking of going for my medical a few months after NOA1, maybe april/may sometime??? All I know for sure is I went to Dr. Millars office to try find out some information and the receptionist there said she didnt know they did them??? :bonk: She asked me to print out any info i could find on the medical and she would find someone to talk to me about it.

Hope this helps you, I'll have to kee an eye on this :)

Yeah when I was with nab back home they charged $50 to send them chase here in the us charged $35 to receive. I switched banks to St. George and got one normal account and one that had just a visa debit and nothing else.

I then sent the spare visa card to Rachel and when I wanted to send her money I just transferred the funds into that second account. So long as I kept the balance in my main account over $500 both accounts were fee free and any month she used the card it cost a once only fee of $10 for as many times as she could use the card. Not free, but damn cheap for a instant international money transfer :) since both cards were same bank, there wasn't the week wait that the $50+ international transfers have :)

They certainly do! I keep reading friends on FB in Aus planning on dressing up and trick-or-treating.. that kinda bugs me because it's an American holiday.. it would be like suddenly celebrating Thanksgiving. We're becoming too Americanised!

Umm, actually both Halloween and trick-or-treat (or Guising as its called in Scotland) are both Scottish in origin :)
From the wikipedia Halloween page
The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra h?lgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556.

And further down the page...

Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?" The word "trick" refers to a (mostly idle) "threat" to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. In some parts of Scotland children still go guising. In this custom the child performs some sort of trick, i.e. sings a song or tells a ghost story, to earn their treats.
In Scotland and Ireland, Guising — children disguised in costume going from door to door for food or coins — is a traditional Halloween custom, and is recorded in Scotland at Halloween in 1895 where masqueraders in disguise carrying lanterns made out of scooped out turnips, visit homes to be rewarded with cakes, fruit and money. The practice of Guising at Halloween in North America is first recorded in 1911, where a newspaper in Kingston, Ontario reported children going "guising" around the neighborhood.

Australia and New ZealandNSW Police Check - Which Form?

Hi,

I am from South Australia. Does anyone here know which police check shall I get? for the federal one? or SA is enough? (I guess the federal one now)

i actually just got one police check but it is apparently not a full disclosure...i am glad that i saw this topic and realized that i might be wrong.... :help:

Hey 2011fall :)

For South Australia, the Embassy website *Click Here* says:

National Police Certificate & Fingerprint Checks (NPC) will only be prepared for those people who reside in South Australia. South Australian residents living overseas should refer requests to the Australian Federal Police website or via e-mail at vetting@afp.gov.au. Residents of other states should direct enquiries to the police service of the state or territory in which they reside.

The standard timeframe to process a NPC is between 5-15 working days. The fee for a National Police Certificate & Fingerprint Check is A$140 (subject to change, please check current fee direct with SA police).

Please find guidance and application forms on the South Australian Police website.

I went to the website and had a look, the information page and link to the application form is here: National Police Certificate And the fee listed on the Canberra embassy website is now wrong, it's gone up to $159

Hope all this helps :)
