Your opinion is your opinion, and it's off-topic. The chief thing is to know whom you're marrying before you marry. What "you think" is not necessarily correct. Please refer to ALL of the previous posters' replies, and please avoid injecting incorrect "thinking" into a known, viable avenue that the OP can pursue.

Kind Sir T-BoneTX,

Yes, you are correct..."my opinion is my opinion." And that is what a good percentage of the posters on this forum are giving free of charge. That is the entire point of VisaJourney...sharing information and giving opinions/advice.

As to your second point about what "I think," I do not respond to a posting unless I have researched the answer to a certain extent. I did read and refer to ALL previous posters replies...and those were opinions/advice as well. The response to the poster's question was researched at the U.S. Department of State website...please read below, and I quote:

"Can a K-1 Visa Holder Leave the United States?

The K-1 visa allows a fiancé(e) to enter the United States one time only. If you leave the United States after entering on a K-1 visa, you may not re-enter on the same visa."

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHelp-Fiance had to returm Home

Try and get the consulate to revalidate the visa.

If not, another K-1 is your only option.

Or you could get married and then file for a CR-1.

Sidenote to future K-1 entrees: Another relevant example as to why you should always get married ASAP and file for AOS upon your entry into the U.S. You can always request an emergency AP. You never know what can crop up.

I don't agree with your sidenote. Many people on VJ met by internet and only have known their fiance(e) for a short period of time. I went through this process several years ago and married in my SO's country. I wish that I had lived with her for several months BEFORE marrying her so that I could see what type of woman she was...she was looking for a meal ticket and a VISA to the USA. Thankfully, I cancelled everything shortly before her interview in Bogota, Colombia. But, that brought up other issues of getting a long-distance divorce, etc. What a nightmare!
Additionally, the way I read the posting...the fiancee already left the USA and returned to Russia. The way I read the guides, the K-1 visa is a ONE-TIME entry for 90 days. There was no mention of an "emergency" exception. I think the only option for this person is starting over again. He will not like hearing that but...

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBogota: Application Fees for Nonimmigrant Visas to Increase

http://bogota.usembassy.gov/pr_62_14122007.html

The application fee for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa will increase from US$100 to US$131. This increase allows the Department of State to recover the costs of security and other enhancements to the nonimmigrant visa application process.

Applicants who paid the current US$100 application fee before January 1 will be processed only if they are scheduled and appear for a visa interview before January 31. Applicants who paid the US$100 application fee and appear for visa interviews after January 31, 2008 must pay the difference -- US$31 -- before they will be interviewed.

The Department is required by law to recover the cost of processing nonimmigrant visas through the collection of the visa application fee. Because of new security-related costs, new information technology systems, and inflation, the US$100 application fee is lower than the actual cost of processing nonimmigrant visas. In fact, the US$100 fee was already lower than the cost of processing nonimmigrant visas when the fee was reviewed as a part of the cost of service study in 2004. The Department has been absorbing the additional cost. We are now collecting 10 fingerprints from each applicant, and the cost charged by the FBI to review those fingerprints no longer allows us to do this. The application fee has increased twice since 9/11, the last time in 2002.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia has already scheduled visa appointments through the end of 2007, thus applicants who have not yet made a visa appointment will be subject to the new fee.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3/4 questions

I am the US citizen, but I received the Packet 4 in the mail the other day.

My fiance did not receive the Packet 3 or 4 yet.

Does that sound normal? She has told me that the post office in her town has had issues with delayed mail, but I am surprised I have the packet 4 before she has packet 3. Thoughts?

Did you request copies of these packets? If so, that may be what you are receiving. (I asked for and received copies of mine several years ago when I went through this the first time.) IF not, you may be receiving the packets meant for your fiancee'. (fiance = male) The mail service in many of these countries leaves a lot to be desired. The service is so bad in Costa Rica that the Embassy will not use their system. The beneficiary...my fiancee' must travel to the U.S. Embassy in San Jose to pick up the Packet #3 personally.

What doesn't seem "normal" is to receive Packet #4 until/unless Packet #3 had been completed and sent in by your fiancee'. (I was under the impression that Packet #4 was simply the confirmation letter for the date of the interview and that many places do not even use a Packet #4. Colombia does not and I don't think Costa Rica does either.)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAre we likely to get rejected? Updated...

I had my K1 interview on Wednesday (June 9) and unfortunately the woman who interviewed me was not particularly pleasant. She started filling out the dreaded pink slip even before she said a word to me. She was quite sarcastic and even a bit rude when she was questioning me. Actually she wasn't nice to anyone. A man she interviewed before me was also given a pink slip. Not sure if it was a rejection or a request for more documentation as was with my case.

My fiance and I are very busy people, so to save time and to ensure that the right papers are filed we hired an immigration lawyer. I'm not sure what to make of this guy. Not only did he fill out the incorrect Affidavit of Support (he sent in the I-864 when he should have used the I-134), but he also did not say a word about my fiance's income for 2009 not being sufficient. My fiance has been on disability since December of 2008 because of a car accident. As a result of this accident he didn't work full time in 2009 because he suffered a back injury which made it difficult for him to work at full capacity. He has a job which requires him to lift stuff and sit in the same position all day so obviously that's not good with his injury. Anyway, this had an impact on his income apparently because the consular woman said his salary wasn't enough.

On the pink slip she wrote that she wanted the I-134, and that we should acquire a joint sponsor who should fill out the I-864, support their 2009 tax return as well as a copy of ID which proves their citizenship. She gave me back my birth certificate and asked me if I needed my passport back. I said yes because at the time it was my only source of identification.

She told me once I have all the papers she requested I could drop them off along with my passport to the embassy. She said I didn't need to make a new appointment and proceeded to ask me if I had any questions for her.

In my disappointment in not having been approved right away and being consumed with fury because we'd paid so much money for a lawyer who by all indication has not done his job, I only asked her if I will need to pay another fee of US350. I completely forgot to ask her exactly what is the status of my case now. She did say it will be on hold until I submit the documents she asked for. But I don't know if our petition was approved pending the delivery of these documents or if it is still under consideration.

I'm not sure how to interpret her behaviour and how she conducted the interview. She had a lot of negative energy flowing off of her. She was indeed a condescending and sarcastic. She was rolling her eyes, releasing deep sighs of impatience etc. While she was interviewing the guy before me and I saw how she was behaving I prayed that I wouldn't get her, but as fate would have it I got her and she made me feel nervous and uncomfortable even though I came prepared and am happy with my relationship with my fiance.

Now I don't know what to think. I've been on egg shells since Wednesday. I can't help but have this sinking feeling that we're going to get rejected.

My fiance has sent me the I-134, but most of our family and friends who we've considered asking to be joint sponsor have not yet filed their tax return for 2009 so we're having difficulty finding someone who actually has the crucial piece of evidence ready. Since she specifically requested this I can't go back to the embassy without it.

I'm a little scared because I don't know where I stand. I guess I'm writing here because I need to vent and get the advice and opinions of other seasoned VJers.

Thx, D

Hello D: It sounds like the "not particularly pleasant" woman has approved your visa based on the condition that you provide the correct paperwork and sponsor's affidavit of support. Since she said to drop off the required papers at the Embassy and that you did not need an appointment...sounds like they're going to match up these papers to your file and put the visa in your Passport. Final filing date for income tax was April 15th...most of your family and friends have not filed yet?????? This is a little unusual...don't you think? Final point...hiring a lawyer to do you paperwork is fine if you have lots of money and lots of time...most of us on VJ do the paperwork ourselves and we are COMPLETELY SURE that is the correct stuff PRIOR TO THE INTERVIEW. If he filled out the wrong papers...wouldn't it have been your responsibility to check them over PRIOR to your interview to be sure they were correct? Just because he claims to be an "immigration lawyer" does not mean he/she will do things correctly. Many people report that using a lawyer causes time delays plus the costs for his lawyer fees. Anyway...good luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBogota Visa Interview Timetable Questions

I have an appointment for a visa interview at the Bogota embassy on a Wednesday. We have to get medical exams for my fiancee and her son before the interview. When should we schedule the medical exams? The day before? The Monday before? A note on this website says "Try to schedule the laboratory and medical exam at least 2 days before the interview. This will allow some extra time to deal with any unexpected problems." What might be the "unexpected problems"?

If the visa is granted can we pick up the visa from the designated delivery agency in Bogota? If so can we pick it up the next day or when? If we don't pick it up when would it be delivered to her home in Cali? Where is a good place to stay in Bogota? This website has a note listing: "www.bogotacolombialodging.com, www.hotelbogotainn.com/, or www.welovebogota.com/". Any other suggestions? It also says "Documents in Spanish do not need to be translated into English." Is that correct?

Can I get into a shorter line or a quicker interview since I am a US citizen and I will accompany my fiancee to the interview, or does that make no difference. Also, should her 11-year old son accompany us to the interview. He is included in the visa petition and he has to go to Bogota for the medical exam and I don't know where we would leave him if he cannot accompany us.

Thanks mucho.

Unexpected problems are those which my crop up unexpectedly...hence they are called "unexpected problems." Check with the Embassy during your interview as to where you an pick up her Passport. I think they have them available at the Embassy the following day or at 4pm the same day. Suggest you review the "Embassy Reviews" section of this forum. I've stayed at the Boheme Royale in Bogota...a nice hotel near the Andino Mall...beautiful area of Bogota. You will need to take a taxi to the Embassy...but they will arrange it for you. You get no "special privileges" since you are the USC and accompanying your fiancee to the interview. I had planned for my wife's 15 year old daughter to accompany us. But, everything fell apart a few weeks prior to her interview when I found out that she still had a boyfriend. So, I cancelled the interview. She never made it to the USA.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionThose who filed their i-751?
May be this will help
What is the A# and the Alien Registration Number? Are they the same thing?
Yes, these are two terms for the same thing. The A# is a case number that USCIS assigns to certain people, and then
(usually, for exceptions see below) stays with you for the rest of your life, much like a Social Security Number. Most
people get their A# when they apply for adjustment of status. It is also assigned if you apply for an employment
authorization document (such as an F-1 OPT), a V visa, find yourself in deportation proceedings, and in a number of
other situations.
Many USCIS forms ask for the A#. If you do not have one yet, simply write "None".
There actually are four separate types of A#. You can tell them apart by the number of digits and the first digit. The first
kind is an eight-digit A#. These are manually assigned at local offices. If you have one of these numbers, simply treated it
as if it was "0" plus the number. Nine-digit A#'s that start with the digit 1 are used for employment authorization cards,
usually related to students. Nine-digit A#'s that start with the digit 3 are used for fingerprint tracking of V visa applicants.
All other nine-digit A#'s (these actually always start with a 0) are permanent A#'s and remain permanently with you for
life.
Therefore, the rule is: if you are asked for an A# and have one, always give this A#, regardless of whether it starts with a
0, 1 or 3. If you have both a 0-A# and a 1-A# or a 3-A#, then use the one that starts with a 0.

You can't get the stamp if your passport is expired. I only know this based on cases which I overheard while we were waiting for a stamp in my husband's passport for the same reasons. We did it before the biometrics appointment, but I suppose it depends on what facility you are going to.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionFiled I-751 late
There was a post by Katharyn41:

“There were two members of VJ who missed their deadline dates while I was going through the ROC process as well. They included a letter to USCIS apologizing for the delay and requesting consideration. Both of them were accepted and eventually approved for Removal of Conditions. In the USCIS Field Manual there is a section that discusses late filings for ROC. It basically states that it is up to the adjudicator's discretion whether they will accept a late filing or not, but generally they allow a 60 day 'grace' period in which to receive late filings, so I will just say get the application in ASAP, make sure you apologize for the late filing and ask them to look with favour upon your request to consider your application even though it is a week late. Good luck

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRemoving Conditions need your help and opinion on GC expiration

Friends,

thanks for the quick response. Here is what happened when we went to DMV this morning. They refused to renew the Drivers License as there was no Form I-797-C. So I just set up an infopass appointment for this coming tuesday. I will let you know how that goes. Ironically, there was another couple (also from India) going through the same circumstances. They got their GC extention right away but their biometrics was late, so their GC had expired. But since they had the extension letter they got their License renewed.

BOTTOM LINE: Its better to have a letter giving 1 year extension (I-797C) than having a biometrics appointment letter.

If no I-797C go to infopass and set up a Passport Stamp thing.

infopass will do it. I have one on Thursday. I didn't get my NOA1 either. Don't call USCIS, waste of time. My daughter can give you better answers than USCIS.

United Kingdomsending games to UK

Damn, my son wants to bring some of his Gamecube games over to the USA as he has heard they can be played on the Wii (can they?). I guess as they are region 2 they wouldn't be compatible with a region 1 Wii.

Double damn.

That's a good question. I'd assume PAL Gamecube games wouldn't run on an NTSC wii but I imagine very few if any people have tried that yet. I do know that *some* freeloader discs work on the wii, so theres a possibility that might work, come to think of it.

A list from a game forum I visit says:

Freeloaders compatible with the wii:
1.0 - Unconfirmed
1.04 – Unconfirmed
1.06 – Works
1.06b – Works
1.06B – Doesn’t Work
The Freeloader-booting Action Replay – Works (But I don't *think* action replay lets you play international games. I'm not certain, but I think Action Replay is more of a cheating device.)

It's kind of hit or miss, but perhaps it's worth a try to track down 1.06 or 1.06b and give one of those a try with the wii!

United Kingdomsending games to UK

Now how about X-Box? I am no good with game consoles. Last one I bought was N64 back when they were new. I was THIS CLOSE to ordering some games for my BF for his new X-Box that he got on special but then I rememberd about the whole region thing. pfft.

Xbox and xbox 360 are the hardest ones to figure out for me-- there's a lot to consider and research. DVDs are ALL region locked on the 360 (and I believe the original xbox as well), so US dvds won't play on UK consoles without a workaround.

However, not *all* games are region locked on them, it depends on the publisher, and it's kind of hard to find a decent list of everything thats region unlocked. Here's a list for 360 that you may find helpful: http://www.play-asia...1-fc-49-en.html but I can't seem to have it pull up the same for original xbox.

Sometimes you'll run into things like the american version being region free, but then the japanese version is region locked. I think this was the case for the 360 game 'Gears of War', if memory serves.

I'd suggest googling 'xbox region free games' or 'xbox region unlocked games', you might find some lists that way, but be careful and try to verify any list you find before purchasing.

Something else to consider with these is that some games may or may not work properly on UK tvs-- I'm not certain about this, but, for example, I have a chipped US ps2, so it can read any discs, NTSC or PAL, but games like Singstar Rocks (UK version) will not play properly on my tv, due to it having no option to switch from 50 Hz refresh rate (the norm in the UK) to 60 Hz (the US). So, to play that game, I have to buy this little converter to play on my computer screen, versus the tv. SOME games do have a choice of which you run it at (Burnout 2, I believe, had this option), but some games are 50Hz with no option for change.

, I know, confusing!!

For those of you who plan on bringing over your UK system to the US or vice versa I strongly suggest searching around to see if you can find anyone who is willing to 'chip' your system. I personally lucked out-- My fiance knew someone at his university who chipped my system for about 20 quid, and now I can play all the UK games my fiance will be bringing over here, versus having to sell them all off for cheap and rebuy them at full price here-- all I have to do is buy that converter for 50 to 60 Hz.

Does anyone know if the Nintendo Wii games are regional too? Or the old Gamecube games? Purdy please! :P

Both are regional, sadly. :(

I know there IS a freeloader for the gamecube-- this allows you to somewhat bypass it, but it doesn't always work. My fiance used a freeloader trying to play a US game on his UK gamecube and it never worked properly.

So if my nephew asks for a Gameboy DS game, I can get it here and sent it to the UK? I can't keep up with all these damn things.

The Nintendo DS, yes, you can. :)

I'm fairly certain the gameboy advance (which is the model before the nintendo DS) is also fine for this.

The only things you have to look out for are if you are importing from somewhere, like, say, japan. Then you have to be sure the game has the option for english language. But on the majority of recent game handhelds, UK to US and US to UK are fine and dandy! :D
jezebelsevenFemaleEngland2006-12-02 18:50:00
United Kingdomsending games to UK
Playstation games are region encoded-- the UK uses PAL, US uses NTSC. Assuming they don't have a chipped system (which the huge majority of people don't-- I do because I import games from japan), games bought here will not work there.

There are a few games you *can* send through any countries. Nintendo DS games are region free, for example, as are Sony PSPs. So if they have those, you might consider getting them something for those instead. Otherwise, your best bet is ordering off UK sites and having them sent that way, as Tim and Bethanie mentioned.

United KingdomHow much is Medical and where is it?

After reading all the guides provided again there is only one price and that is the medical in London, which has already been provided by kind posters, what I would like to know is how much the WHOLE process is for CR1 for one person so that I can double that amount, can anyone see what I am getting at?? sorry to be a pain in the bum.

Janice

That's really impossible to answer because it depends on what you count as being part of the whole process. Are you talking about just the paperwork and appointments? Are you counting travel costs? If so, that'll vary on when and where you travel, for example. Are you counting in any possible phone calls you may have to make? Are you counting food you'll pay for while in London? Hotel? Do you need any vaccinations at the medical?

These kinds of 'how much will it cost' questions are always hard to answer because it really depends on your exact situation and what you count as 'part of the process' compared to normal everyday costs.

United KingdomSending the P3 back

What happened to your timeline by the way Jezebelseven? It's not there when I click on it!

My guess would be... Adman linked to it, so it's been taken off of Jezebelseven's account - maybe you can't have two people linking to the same timeline?! (Shame! That would also explain why a couple of people's timelines appear twice, I've noticed...)

Oooh. That's exactly what happened. We thought we could save that whole 'double timeline' thing if he just linked to it, but I guess that doesn't work so well! Nuts.

I'll have to steal it back from muh monkey, since I'm the main poster, I suppose!

United KingdomSending the P3 back
Thanks you two-- I believe the confusion stemmed from the worded slip that came with p3 saying to 'send back enclosed forms only' (which was obviously only the checklist), and that they 'didn't want our personal documents yet'. I suppose by that they mean the I-134 and any supporting evidence is what they don't want now.

I hadn't really researched as much as possible on what he should be doing on his side of the pond, was too focused on the I-134 stuff myself to even start thinking for him too :P And I'm guessing that bolded line above slipped my sight because it's under the packet 4 stuff, so I thought that was something later or something.

He's not sent any of it in yet but was about to send in the checklist tomorrow, so now we'll just delay it by a day and send it all together it sounds like, because he's had those forms filled out, just thought he took them to his interview with him. Glad we found this out now though, I'd be kicking myself for waiting so long for P4 only to find out it was our fault it was so delayed!

United KingdomPolice Certificate - Reassurance please!!!!
I love this thread. Because apparently Ad got his police report a few days ago and didn't tell me because he didn't think it was the right thing, but its worded exactly like featherB's post. So now I'm really really relieved.

United KingdomEver had a package to UK lost?
I've noticed the two packages Adam has sent me via royal mail in the last month have both been terribly beaten up-- boxes ripped open enough for the contents to fall out (luckily they haven't yet). Starting to get really annoyed with that.

Another thing I've noticed is that every time I send chocolates over there they melt, but every time they've sent me some from there they're pristine. What is the deal with that? Is it something in our chocolates that make it melt faster?

United KingdomEver had a package to UK lost?

I think the collective power of people thinking about my package sped it along its journey! Andy called me to say that it arrived today! Better late than never i guess. I hope the UK to US service is a bit more reliable because I want Andy's mom to send us Jaffa Cakes and Bueno Bars :D

mary

The package I was worrying about as well showed up at Adam's place today. Royal Mail must've read the thread! :P
