K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust mailed out my I-129F
Good Luck, I just mailed mine out today too, but not overnight, just priority mail certified with return reciept (I hope I did that okay, I forgot which way people kept suggesting on here, whoops). So you'll probably beat me there by a few days! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe timeline chart is now available online
Regarding our timelines here, I could've sworn I read somewhere (Not that I remember who said it or where) that us who are sending to Nebraska should keep it as Nebraska as it will then include/factor in the 2 weeks to 1 month that we also have to wait for it to be sent to California. So... that's why I'm not changing mine, at least. I'd rather keep the timelines accurate here than somewhere else...

USPS Certified Priority Mail with Return Reciept for me, paid the flat rate (Which is where you get an envelope and basically anything you can stuff in it within reason is all one fee), it got there in just 2 days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1! Yay, in the system! Way before expected.
Kind of topic hijacking but I didn't think this deserved my own thread, but... I totally just got my NOA1 today. They somehow accepted my stupidly postdated check. It hasn't went through the bank yet either, but NOA1 is here in my hands. :D

I guess they could RFE me for it but I somehow doubt it. I hope not, at least.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1! Yay, in the system! Way before expected.

Hey Jezbelseven, I just checked my bank account this mroning and my check was cashed. So that went trhough the day after I got my NOA1 via snail mail.

:star: Cass (bebop the great)

Excellent! With both you and heishe getting a responce now, hopefully I don't have much longer to wait to hear something back. I wouldn't be so worried about it if I knew whether I'll be getting a rejection notice or an NOA1, and I'm fairly sure itll be a rejection, but I just want to KNOW, one way or the other! :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1! Yay, in the system! Way before expected.
Congrats! So you got your NOA1 before the check was even cashed? Has it been cashed yet, if I may ask?

Like I said in the RFE thread, I'm expecting my packet to be returned (Unless somehow my check gets overlooked and makes it through), and I guess I'm just trying to get an idea of when I should either be seeing the packet returned or seeing my check cashed! I figure you're one of the closest people as far as date and area combined so I might be able to figure that out from you, or at least get a general idea ;)

No-- mail it to Texas, they will forward it to the correct place. It sucks, but that's how it's meant to be done. Expect it to take a week or so to transfer it, at least, that was about how long it took for it to go from Nebraska to Cali for me.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA question for all of the British / English
I put Great Britain as I was told someone else had done the same and was approved, if memory serves.

My fiance and I weren't sure either, I kept telling him UK seemed right but he was sure Great Britain was proper as it showed he wasnt from northern ireland. He was *certain* England wouldn't do as it wasn't a proper real name. :P

I think we opted for Great Britain as that's what was in his passport under 'nationality'. British.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1 arrived today

now can someone tell me on the VJ timeline does it want the NOA1 received date or the notice date?

I was told by others (I believe it was Aussiewench) that on VJ they want you to enter it on the timeline as the RECIEVED date listed on the paper. Hope that was what you wanted :)

Congrats on the NOA1!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOh gods, I'm shaking...

Mine came today too :)

Congrats to you and the OP both! :D

I did the same thing the day mine came-- I was certain it didn't come as I was expecting my entire packet to be returned like heishe's was, and I saw the mailman walk by with all small mail, but told my fiance to hold on (talking online) while I got the mail, and came back screaming and jumping around like a nutter. :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 rejected, for a stupid reason!
I must've gotten a really nice adjucator or something-- I was certain this would happen to me (Accidentally wrote the wrong MONTH so it was postdated 2 months), but someone there actually took a stamp and stamped a 8 over the 10 I wrote on my check-- I only found this out after the NOA1 came in the mail unexpectedly, and I hopped online a day or two later to check out the cancelled check and found the stamped '8'.

It's nice knowing I'm not the only one who somehow made this silly of a mistake, though!! :P Good luck on the rest of your journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI realize it's still Monday but......

Geez -relax. Did you see anything in my post that said there were errors in timelines? No. What I said was if there had been August approvals, they are extremely unusual.

I think what the later-filers are trying to get at here is that we're trying to find out if last week's gob of approvals were a fluke and just unusual and will never happen again, or if 2 months is going to, again, become the norm, like it was a year ago, and for us to expect that to be a realistic estimate. I know I'm curious to find out if the approvals keep pouring in as it will have a huge effect on who I use as my cosponsor and where I'll be spending Christmas!

We're not demanding it become the norm, just trying to find out if it might become it. I'm fairly sure we all realize it's possible it was a total fluke and there were just some damn lucky people last week, but there shouldn't be any harm in asking!

I think we all know and can agree that the 'norm' with the K1 process is a constantly changing thing-- whereas for the last few months, it's been easily a 6+ month wait average, it's entirely possible with the given circumstances that the wait time is changing again, at least for those lucky enough to have missed the whole IMBRA screw-up.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow much evidence is too much?
I included 6-7 pages from the 6 trips we've had in the last 2 years.

I narrowed it down to about a page of the strongest relevant info from each trip (for me, that ended up being boarding passes (or iteneraries when I didn't have the boarding passes), and a photo from 5 of them (basically one from each trip).

It ended up being, basically, a copy of the correct passport page, surrounded by two boarding passes, and in one case, a train ticket on the same page. I then highlighted the relevant dates on each page in different colors (So for our June trip, all june dates were orange; for December, all December dates were blue-- I thought this just might make it easier to see why they were on the same page).

I figured it was better to show proof from all the visits so that it shows it's been an ongoing relationship when it gets further, to the embassy stages and whatnot.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresi-129f question
There was a topic about this a little while back, so you might find something helpful here-- the opinions seemed to differ, some people thought it would definately get you an RFE, while others who sign their name differently have been approved with no RFE about it. My fiance signs the way yours does-- A. Lastname, while I sign mine Angela M. Lastname.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureschecking account

my USC fiance don't have a checking account...his mother provided the check...would that be ok?

No banking account is likely going to involk question when it comes the 134 Affidavit of Support. If he has no bank account, how is he to prove he can support you and become a state burden. Even savings accounts have checks, does he have a savings account?

Well, I mean he could always have a co sponsor at the point of the I-134 and AOS, but yes I think he should have a bank account!Fo sho!

It's possible he has a bank account but no checking account or no checks. I personally have a checking account but do not get checks as I don't use them enough to pay for them or take the chance in getting them stolen, and I used my mom's checks (though I am a cosigner on her account) to send the payment. My savings account have never had checks either, so I think that's a 'depends on your bank' policy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A

Quick question. I'm filling out the G325A for myself right now. The part where it says city and country of birth. Do you think they'd get mad if I put "Cincinnati, Ohio, USA" because I know for some cities there are multiples of city names in different states, I don't want there to be confusion!

What I did was, I believe, in the 'City' blank, put the city, then in the blank for 'state/country' I put it as OH/USA. I did the same in my current address-- OH/USA.

That being said I haven't been approved so I don't know if I did it right, but that's what I did anyways! :P
jezebelsevenFemaleEngland2006-10-02 21:18:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A

I realize that, but I have read on here, not to leave gaps in employment periods and not to overlap them. So we were trying to not leave gaps?

I included my unemployed time for the same reason. Again, I haven't been approved yet, but I ended up just putting 'see attached sheet' and listed everything on the second sheet. I only actually needed one additional line (and it was to write 'unemployed', but it finished off the 5 year period), so I just decided to keep it all on one page.

At the top of the attachment I wrote:

Form G-325A Q: Applicant (My Name Here)'s employment last 5 years:

Then made 4 bits with correct headings, trying to keep them lined up as well as possible while including all the info I needed to. Excel would probably be best for this like you mentioned but if anyone doing this doesn't have excel, just pick a font like Lucida Sans Unicode where all the letters take up the same space, and space it out properly.

And then I signed it, Dated it, and printed my name.

And I was told to do that 4 times, one for each sheet of the G325A, so be sure you sign and date each if you do that as well.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Heads Up/Warning. Adobe Mess-up

I just now checked my copy in a panic, but all is well. My PDF fillable form did what it was supposed to do. I'm wondering if there's an issue depending on what browser you're using. Maybe we should do some research about that possibility. At various points I did drafts of the form on Safari, Firefox, Netscape, and IE for Mac--just to see what was working the best for me. I don't think I had a problem with any of them, really.

Anyone else...?

Same here, mine looks fine. I did one in Firefox (mine) and one in Adobe Reader 7.0, both look like they worked as they were meant to.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm having a problem with my mailing address!
Not sure if this is an issue but depending where you get your mail (Mailbox, in your door, PO box, etc) , its possibly being returned to sender due to your mailbox being too full-- which, if you aren't having someone get your mail every few days, a mailbox can get filled and I believe gets marked as abandoned or something. I could be wrong...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfinally, the game is on, the clock is ticking...

Congratulations on receiving your NOA1, you are on your way now, yes I would just use CSC in your timeline, they are going to be your service center anyway....Good luck on a speedy process

I'm going to disagree like I tend to do and repeat that I read somewhere here (Really wish I'd bookmarked it now) that we're meant to keep it as NSC if that's where we originally filed at, because if you put it as CSC then it seems like it will skew your timeline (and therefore everyone elses) by as many days as it took them to send it from Nebraska to California. At least, that was my understanding of it... Granted this might only make a few days/weeks differences, but in a situation where we're all counting the minutes we're away, I personally prefer to be as exact as possible :)

Anyhow, congrats.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A place of residence if deceased and Russia address format

Ok, I have three questions.

  • We're filling out G-325A. My fiance's mother has passed away a number of years ago; what should she put for her mother's "City and Country of Residence"?
  • The postal address scheme in Russia is somewhat different from that in US. If anyone is familiar with it, what should we put for her home & work addresses so that the application doesn't get rejected and also when someone needs to send my fiance mail, it actually gets to her?
  • The G-325A application has 4 identical pages. What gives? What do we do with them?
Thanks!

To answer your 2nd question...my mother died when i was 6 months old. I filled out all of the information about her...and under city and country of residence...i put DECEASED. i dont know, but i think that is the correct response...BUT...i just mailed mine...so, that is what i did.

Same here, both of our fathers passed away and that was what we were told to put by many others.

As for the 4 pages-- they're actually not identical, the stuff at the bottom (that you don't fill out) is different. Just fill in the right info on all four and be sure to include all four, as people DO recieve RFEs for only sending one.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresjust getting started...
I can't add a whole lot to what my fellow younguns have above (I do agree with the whole shebang that's been said), but I have to stress that IMHO you really shouldn't avoid telling your parents. My fiance (20) and I (22) put off telling his mom for quite some time as she has never been a supporter of our relationship. We put off telling her for quite some time in fear that she would do something rash, like kick him out of her house, or disown him, or something similar. We were absolutely certain she'd throw a fit and try to talk us out of it.

For quite some time I had been going through major stress because he wouldn't tell her. The stress was so heavy that we kept putting off the actual filing of the K1, and rather just working around it as long as possible. We put off filing the K1 for over a year, because we had such a hard time with telling his mom that this was the way it was going to happen, and that's that.

Eventually we bit the bullet and told her. She'd told us that she suspected this would happen someday and she had already basically prepared herself for it. We were shocked. She was suprisingly, honestly okay with it and it has made this entire journey so much easier. It was no longer weighing on our minds every time the topic came up.

I'd be scared to think where we'd be right now had he not told her.

There's another fellow young poster here who just told her mom and was very nervous about it as well but it sounds like it went a lot better than expected there, too.

Even if they do decide to talk you out of it or whatever, you are legally in charge of your lives now and they can feel however they want about it-- you make the call in the end.

Put simply-- Telling your parents is going to be one of the the easiest parts of this journey. If you can't do that, you're going to have one hell of a time with the entire K1 Journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen submitting copies of plane/bus tickets

I copied all my airline tickets on 1 page, and that was fine when I sent in the petition. It just looks neater.

You may separate the different trips tickets and copy them on separate sheets by trip, that will help the adjudicator.

I seperated them all by each trip, highlighting the dates on each page that were together. It seemed like the most organized way to do it, to have, for example, one page with:

Plane Ticket to London, April 1
Train tickets from April 2, 3, 4
Plane Ticket home from April 5

And the date highlighted in the same color on each of those, then on the next sheet having

Plane ticket from London, December 1
Bus tickets from Dec 2, 4, 5, 12
Plane ticket home to London, December 19

All highlighted in a different color from the previous page.

But yeah. All on one page is fine, I'd think. If everything fits on one page, even from several trips, I'd say you could just highlight each trip in a different color or something as well just to show they're not all the same ticket or time period.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance Visa Advice Needed
When I saw a lawyer, I, too, was told the bogus information that you were given. She worded, very 'hush hush' and sneakily, that he should come for a 'visit' but be sure not to mention he was coming to marry me, then we could 'decide' to get married while he was here, and we could have the lawyer help us adjust our status.

The reason we originally went to her was because our biggest concern was whether or not my mother could be a co sponsor as I have been unemployed for quite some time (I am the US Citizen), and we weren't sure whether my mother could support due to her being on workmans comp and other retirement issues. The lawyer also suggested the 'easy' route saying that that way, it wouldn't even be an issue, basically saying that we wouldn't need any of this 'sponsoring' stuff.

I, too, was extremely happy hearing this, though I was slightly dubious, because if this was truly the case, wouldn't more people be doing it? And the way she acted like we should be very secretive about what he says when he arrives? It didn't sit entirely well with me after thinking about it for a few hours.

So I posted on VJ asking for other peoples advice much like you did, and the resounding reply was 'Run away from that lawyer as fast as you can.'. I went with my gut and agreed that she was telling us to do something that wasn't entirely kosher and that could possibly lead to more trouble than it was worth, things like causing him to be deported among other things I was told at the time.

For awhile, the whole disappointment put me off filing the K1 because the process seemed so daunting and I was sure I couldn't figure it out myself. Eventually I found the sample papers here on the site (They weren't around before when this issue came up) and using them, the paperwork was a breeze, and here I am waiting on my NOA2. I have to wonder why I put it off for so long, honestly.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOpinions -- Call to CSC?

pre-IMBRA 90-120 days was more or less typical.

Yes, and none of us are pre-IMBRA. It's all relative regarding that. If I was pre-IMBRA, or anywhere closer to where IMBRA was affecting things, and over 100 days, I probably wouldn't be complaining because it would be 'the norm' for that. We all know they aren't currently processing May applications on the whole, that is their 'cushion'. I'd buy it if it said July, because I have seen a fair share of July approvals recently scattered in with Augusts and Septembers.

Studies are showing, at least here on VJ, that things have obviously picked up, and there are just a few of us who are for some reason being left behind. At least the IMBRA folks had some sort of idea what was slowing them down with regards to the IMBRA RFEs. Of course, there was no rhyme or reason how they were sending those out, but at least they knew what it was.

And, I'm sure I'll be yelled at for this, but again, it's all relative-- Ruthanne, though I can't say I'd be any happier if I was in your place, again, and I'm genuinely sorry you're still waiting, at least you know a tiny part of what has thrown your approval off schedule, and at least you have options now to try to find out what's going on, with regards to your senator and whatnot, and you being over 6 months. I know that doesn't help when your senator may be useless, or whatever your situation may be, but at this point to me, I'd be happier having some clue of what was slowing it down.
Again, though, that's relative, and maybe if/when I am 8 months into being screwed, that information won't be of any usefulness to me.

I think a lot of the issues here on VJ with the 'who's allowed to complain/what people are allowed to complain about' is due to the fact that it seems like every month there's a change. People who filed in June pre-imbra can't be compared to people who applied in July (a mix) who can't be compared to people who filed in August (post imbra), and on and on. There's not a whole lot of putting each other in each others shoes going on, or people remembering exactly how they felt when they were in the same situation, because there is no real 'same' situation at this point in time.

*shrug* I'm just trying to see this from both sides as much as possible, while still being true to myself. I'm not denying that I'm impatient, but I think I have a right to be, at least at this point in time. I'm not going to argue over 'who's allowed to be more impatient/upset'.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOpinions -- Call to CSC?

Oh.. by the way, do you have anything odd or unusual about your application that might be holding it up? Such as prior submissions of a K-1 before this one? Many divorces? Criminal record?

I figure I'll pop in here with my fellow August friends with my angst. My case should be incredibly straight forward. A lower risk fraud country, I'd assume. No divorces, no children, no criminal record, no previous visa applications. I didn't send them boatloads of evidence, there was probably 5 easy to read pages of boarding passes and the like, with about 5 pictures attached to that, and a few other small things. So it shouldn't take more than a day to review. We've met several times so there shouldn't be any reason for them to think we haven't met with all the proof we provided. My absolute only thought is that somehow we're in a name check as he's got a somewhat common names. Not quite a Bob Jones, but common enough.

I know we probably just have to continue 'being patient' and for all we know we're right around the corner and will all be approved on Monday, but lately my thought of 'It's coming so soon' has become quite the opposite.

I imagine I'm not the only one who's hopes got up a few weeks back when there were absolute tons of people with early/mid August approvals, then it slowed down to a steady trickle of mid/late approvals... and then when the Septembers started getting approved, I started to worry. I kept telling myself I wouldn't start worrying, at first, until the days we'd been waiting hit 'above average'. When that happened, I told myself that I wouldn't let myself worry until we were above the person who had been taken the longest in August so far (Not accounting those of you who are still in this boat with me). Using Gary and Luz's list, at that time, it was something like 60 days. That passed, and I'm having a hard time finding a way to keep telling myself 'just a little bit longer'.

Either way, I know this is of no current help to any of us, but I guess what I do is just try to remember that several other people had a much longer and frustrating wait before us, so we can handle waiting a few extra weeks if that's what it takes. We aren't alone, and things could be a lot worse :) So lets try to keep our heads up and not give up yet.

Ah. Sorry. The way you worded it, I assumed you were the beneficiary and she, the petitioner, and you were asking what the petitioner, versus the beneficiary, needed.

It's worth noting I have NOT been touched except once when they first got my packet, even this morning it said I was not touched (Which is confusing, as it says Nov 16 it was mailed, so I'm not sure how *that* happened!!), and wham, at 1:15pm, there's three approvals in my inbox. So don't be too disheartened if you haven't been touched yet, as their system still seems to be a bit silly regarding the touches.

*goes to update timelines and such*

our case got "touched" yesterday for the first time since 9/14--checked my emails as soon as i saw it--nothing. but, i almost fainted when i found the approval email this morning. "whew" is all i can say!

now i can find something else to worry about. congratulations to everyone else and patience to the people who are waiting. it's very hard.

I hate that I can't edit my post after a few minutes, and I hate double posting, but I just noticed that Amy is also one of my filing buddies (and both of our fiances from the UK, too!) , so, congrats Amy :)

You are not alone. Just please don't get too upset with us for trying to find our own 'light at the end of the tunnel'.

I realize people can relate, god knows I still empathize with people from back in May who are still being screwed around. But I think when you actually get in their shoes, even if for a tiny little week, it, at least, for me, made a huge difference. Before, I'd have said "Damn, that really sucks for them.", but now I can actually feel the emotional side of it. It's hard to explain, and although I see myself as the person who always 'tries to put the shoe on the other foot', I honestly have felt a change in the last week. I guess, to me, it's like the difference between sympathizing and empathizing... and maybe a bit of emotional contagion.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say I'm in the worst place ever and am dying, but it's like my first true taste of what people went through.

I have no problem with the OP asking-- Like I said, a month ago, I was probably doing the same thing. Everyone's got to find some way to cope, and asking questions is obviously one of the best things we can do. I think it's important for all you Septembers to do this for your own sanity!!!

I agree with what jasal is saying because we're in a similar situation at this point-- My post may have been more for jasal's sake than your guys'-- That doesn't mean I blame you guys or am upset with you for asking! I hope I didn't come across like that-- If I did, I'm sorry.

It's just easier to reply in something like this with a little bit of a related-esque rant, rather than make a new topic and then be told off by people saying we shouldn't complain because others from May are waiting, I guess. It seems like making a post in something like this one is better accepted than someone making a post saying "Cmon CSC, approve me already!".

I wish everyone speedy approvals, honestly :)

I want to see what your attitude will be and what your patience level will be when almost all of September's applications have been approved and yours has not. Just imagaine for a moment how you might feel as you see all of those who filed with you and after you being approved and there you sit, waiting and waiting.

Although I hesitate to post this as it's kind of one of those 'You won't understand until you're in my situation' things, I find myself agreeing with this post, especially the bit above. A month or two ago, I was of the cheerful nature of cheering for everyone, before me and behind me, hoping everyone gets their NOA2s fast fast fast. Posts like these ones, but for August, gave me hope that people were still in the same boat as me, waiting for their NOA2s and looking for the light towards the end of the tunnel.

That changed last week when some of my filing buddies and some people who have filed after me got approved while my case remains untouched. Like said above, I'm not angry or upset with them, that'd be amazingly hypocritical and unfair. I am however feeling huge surges of jealousy and disappointment for every new NOA2 approval post I read. And that, in turn, makes me feel guilty for feeling that way, because I am not a jealous person by nature.

The type of person I am, if I'm being left behind, especially in cases like this, I start to freak out and wonder what's gone wrong. I assume the worst, from silly things like 'they've lost my case', to the more obvious options like we're going through some sort of name check. I constantly kick myself for not doing things like sending his birth certificate and other things that I now know may have sped along the process.

I think a lot of the way we ALL deal with this situation is knowing someone out there is in the same boat as us-- whether that's being 4 months behind everyone else, being screwed over by imbra, whether its people who are on the cusp of getting noa2, whether its the people who all post APPROVED!!!111~~~. It gets to be a much harder, lonely journey when you're in your boat alone.

So while I can completely understand wanting to know if there are any Septembers approved, because I was the same way a month ago, I can also completely understand where jasal is coming from too. I hope no one here has to get to the point where we are, though, genuinely.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresImmigration Lawyer downloads and sends wrong form????

You might need a lawyer but not that one.

The biggest effect this will have on your case is a delay. Keep using this dude and you're likely to have more of them.

Agreed completely. If he/she can't even figure out the correct version of the form to file, god help you when it comes to providing anything more complicated than reading the version date! I'd thank my stars I got this warning so early in the game, personally.

I'd imagine it won't cause problems for the rest of the journey-- Several members have made mistakes that got caught and all it required was sending back the correct info/form, and sometimes they don't even notice on some things (I had the wrong date on my check and they just stamped the right date over top, for example). Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter NOA2
Since you'll be going through London, I'll just reiterate the suggestion of going ahead and filing to get your police report-- it takes about 40 days like clockwork, and it's valid for a year. If you get approved any time soon and get through the NVC as fast as some of the recent filers did (to NVC and to the embassy within 2 weeks), you'll do well to already have the police certificate on the way so packet 3 will be nearly complete the minute it's sent to you.

I forgot it took so long to get so it's going to cause us a slight delay (which sucks as we're shooting for a March marriage), so I figure this is one of the more important things to get on. Everything else we personally got done in a week or two.
