I just want to be prepared for fees that, might be unexpected. Are they're any hidden fees, the fees I know of is the medical exam$85, the police certificate$80, and the fingerprint which I am not sure the fee for that. Also I would like to know how long did it take your fiance to receive the VISA in hand from the approval date.I was told that they use to give it to the beneficiary that same day if their appointment was in the morning. They would have to come back later that afternoon to pick it up. please share your experience Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome...they have not done that in so many years I can't even remember how far back. on the fees, to cut the cost of the medical in case shots are needed have your fiance get his shot records and take it to the local clinic...the shots are cheaper there than having him get them at the medical...I can't think of any hidden fees...one of the most recent yardies who went through will answer you questions with the PC and fingerprinting....wait did he file for the non-impiedment form yet...you really need to get the PC now

Good information Roxcie - I would add that the time it takes can be substantially longer now - there was the big investigation into the court a few months back with issues of forged decrees - they have changed the procedures and divorces are taking much longer.

VERY true...I know a few people who got caught up in that and still waiting a year or more.

Thank you so much and I am trying not to stress, but it is very hard because I really miss him, and want him here and the process already took an additional 5 months beause they kept sending the information to the incorrect address. It took almost a month for them to send his information to him, and he lives in Negril, and it was only coming from Kingston Jamaica which is only 4 hours away. I really appreciate all of your feed back.

Thanks a bunch

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDenied ?

Hello, Thank you for the encouragement. How long did it take for your cousin's case to go back to the USCIS and be reviewed and then approved?
Did they ever find out why it was sent back?

Hi Mrs.Edwards -- they didn't tell me about it until after everything happened so I'm guessing from the time it was sent back to USCIS it took 7 months for it to be approved... first they told them it was going to take a few weeks then they told them 180days. As far as the reason -- They had "gaps" in their relationship which was clearly explained -- said their evidenced looked "doctored" -- Of course the CO didn't tell her husband this at the interview. All they told him was that his case will not be approved today and that the case is being sent back to the US and this wife would receive a letter to go to court (which never happened)..."have a nice day, sir" -- that was about it -- It wasn't until I talked to him for hours that I found out everything that they asked him...so, don't take it as a DENIAL. My cousin asked the CO several times if he was denied and the CO just said he was not approving this visa today...no blue slip or anything ---
TRELAWNY PARISHFemale02011-06-27 15:05:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDenied ?

The same happened to my husband who had his interview on June 7, 2011. He had a large file of information, pictures, western union, money gram, phone records, letters, afadavits of our relationship,my w2's for the past 3 years, marraige certificate, my pay stubs, airline tickets and itineraries. We have been together 7 years and married for 1 1/2 years. He answered all of the questions correctly and they still handed his passport back took his file of paperwork and said that they were sending it back to the USCIS for further review. They never gave him anymore information. No blue slip. I have since emailed and called the embassy in Kingston. Had my congressman contact them and also the DOS and USCIS. According to the congressman they are questioning the validity of our relationship. They all say we will have to wait until the case is back in the USCIS. The only redflag we have is an age difference. They shouldn't deny because of the age as I have know others to get their visa with an age difference. I don't know what other proof of our relationship they could want. I sent everything.

Mrs.Edwards/Kay and others who have had their case returned to the US sorry to hear that -- but don't give up...my cousin's cause was complicated and his case was sent back with no reason...stay in constant communictions, but please find out everything the CO asked them during the interview...that was key in getting their case approved...it took a very long time but they got approved so please don't give up. His wife had to attend a second interview; the we interviewed separately; then together --- wishes ya'll the best.

Trelawny

I emailed and also called the Kingston embassy. They wouldn't tell me anything.

Hi Mrs. Edwards --

Kay -- sorry you're going through this as well -- the embassy is not going to provide any information once the case is sent back. From the experiences friends and family members have gone through recently -- they were also told the same thing...best I can suggest is to wait to hear from USCIS. Don't take it as a denial they may just want to interview both of you and get more information

US Citizenship General DiscussionNATURALIZED, left the US with a Foreign Passport and applied passport overseas
QUOTE (Completely @ Sep 18 2008, 12:39 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have some questions in mind that has been bugging me for how many months..

Here is the story... I did get naturalized last June 2008, but have failed to apply passport in the US due to my job requiring me to go back ASAP. I left the USA with my DOD card and a copy of naturalized certificate.. As soon as I came back, I went to the locall US Embassy in the Middle East and applied passport, they did process the passport to me, but the officer gave me a hard time and edudate me that it is illegal to leave and enter the US with a foreign passport.. But commonsense, you can enter the US with your foreign passport provided you have a greencard or visa that allowing you to be in the States legally. But in my case, I left the US using my certificate and applied the passport overseas..

Did someone ever done this before? Did you suffer or encounter any consequences when you went back to the states? Did you get question by the immigration officer or even detained?

I am asking because I want to be prepared if ever I go back and enter the US next year.

Please, share your experience.

Thank you.,

I had to be in England with my son's father who was sworn in for his citizenship on the day we were to fly out. They (claimed) they could not reschuled his naturalization ceremony to another day before his trip. So, he was able to travel to England (british citizen) with just his passport and no green card, because they took that from him at the ceremony. We went to the U.S. embassy in London and applied for a temporary U.S. passport and paid the fee. He had to show is naturalization certificate to gain entry into the embassy and for them to process the passport. We had no problems leaving England or at POE in Baltimore.

Hope this helps.

US Citizenship General DiscussionGreen Card will expire in 30 daus

What matters for N-400 purposes is that the Green Card is still valid at the time the N-400 is received.

The applicant needs to include copies of the valid Green Card with the N-400 application. If the card expires shortly afterward, that's not a problem, although the I.O. may raise an eyebrow. It would be very unusual and rather cruel of an I.O. to expect an applicant sitting in the hot chair a the N-400 interview, just a jump away from becoming a US citizen, to file an I-90 for a new car she will never receive.

Thanks Bob -- have a great week.

another thing is (probably more to the point) that you should renew your green card if it expires in 6 months and you are applying for naturalization. Because if you are for some reason unsuccessful, and let your GC lapse there could be complications with your permanent residency.

Hope this helps!

Please forgive me if I'm posting this question in the wrong forum. If the GC will expire in 30 days and the person wants to apply for citizenship, will they need to renew the the Green Card then apply for citizenship or can the person just deal with the citizenship application without renewing the greencard? US Citizenship General DiscussionBEWARE! If you have not gone to your biometrics yet....

True.
But . . . the only time you'll show the CoN is when applying for your first passport which should be almost immediately after becoming a US citizen. Thereafter the CoN goes into the bank safe, hopefully to never see the light of day again. To make sure that's the case, spend the extra $25 for a passport card in addition to the passport book.

Hi Bob as I sit at my desk cracking up at your reply but have to agree with you 100% -- I have not touched my "certificate" since 1990  after I walked out the passport office -- and it's in a safe place.

QUOTE (cc2cuz @ Dec 7 2008, 04:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok basically we were in the process of removing the conditional status on my wife. The uscis sent a letter requesting evidence and I needed to respond by Nov. 18th. We were waiting on some documents from State farm, so once we received them I got everything together and sent it off to the uscis on Nov. 12th. I told the post office worker that it needed to get there asap. I figured a week would be a lot of time for the papers to get there by the 18th.
My wife recently received a letter in the mail saying that her residence was denied due to abandonment. They are saying that they did not receive the evidence requested by the due date. Because it is an abandonment we cannot appeal but we can only file for a motion to reopen the decision.

Does anybody have any info on this. My wife and I are so stressed out. I could not have helped it if the post office screwed up and took forever for them to send my evidence. I have a certified mail receipt saying that I sent the envelope on the 12th. What can I do?? Are they going to deport my wife, because the post office took to long to send the evidence? Do I have any chance at explaining this to an immigration judge and reversing the decision. I'll talk all the info I can get
Thanks

Hi, this happened to someone I know a few years ago. She was placed in removal proceedings and went before an immigration Judge. Her removal proceedings were terminated and she was allowed to continue with her petition. USCIS claimed that she abandoned her pettion to removal conditions on her greencard.
