Whats the difference? He's still your man, your still his woman. There are still other women and other sexuality in YOUR relationship. Dont matter if you are married.

Marlita no it shouldn't matter, but as Gf and BF we are not totally committed, so if he is trying to test me, so be it. But as my husband, I am his to protect and cherished. So if he isn't trying to do that, I have just be told by his actions that I am not worthy of his protection.

I think Island's SO is in Welding - Not sure of who else.

I think that practicing a trade will depend on who they can link up with and what the laws / union status of the area you live is like. I have a friend that came up and is a carpenter by trade - He signed on with a temp company that does specifically that type of work, made a bunch of contacts, and went out on his own - he now has a very successful business through word of mouth.

He is - I thought they were talking guys who were already here. Dat not us!!! unsure.gif

Island, when your SO gets here do he wants to continue with his welding experience and if so have you researched any information on this?

Sol, if you marry Garth, you will be a mother to his children, what do you want them to call you? Why not use the Japanese term for both of you. You can ask them to refer to you as what evere it is that they say in Japan for mother and your children can refer to Garth whatever they say in Japan as daddy.

Sol, maybe not daddy, but another name which they can pronounce which has an affectionate meaning. Since you have lived in Japan, what do they call their fathers in Japanese.

Kimmy, made a good suggestion, go to some job fairs and get a feel of what's out there. Listern to what they are requiring of their applicants.

See, I understand what you are saying, I have no idea what jobs are in the blue collar field that does not require a trade. I know there are others here in the same position, that's why I put this question out there.

Ok, it took me all morning to catch up.... Good morning everyone...

JALove, you are in my thoughts and prayers.....

I won't qoute everyone since it was alot, I will just add my two cents.... I am jamaica born and lived there for about 12years. Most Jamaican do not belive that I am Jamaican, because they belive I speak like a "valley girl." I live in Schuylkill Haven PA, for two years and Happy Valley, PA for 7 years. So I get it all the time that I am a fake Jamaican, but it does bother me I know who I am. Also I do not write in Patios because I never know how to spell anything and I want to make sure that what I want to say is what is actually being conveyed. When I am with Anthony and I say anything in patwah he laughs and says I sound like Ms Chole. So when I am there I talk how I talk everyday.

Rox, I work in HR so I started working on Anthony resume, my only issues in doing it is that he as work for himself since he was 18, he can take an engine out of a car put it back together but he has never gone to school for that. He is just great with his hands.

I think there was something else I wanted to comment on but I can't remember...

It seems that most of you'll SO, have a high school diploma from a high school in JA. What would be the best route for someone who didn't have the opportunity to finish high school in JA.

Should they pursuse their GED once they get here in the US. Do,the hourly wage jobs require high school diplomas. Do we think they will pick applicants who has their GED or diploma over those who may not have finished school.

Again, I am aware the answers will varies among us, because of our demographic areas.

Kimmy, is this statement true that in the JA high school you have two routes to go, one is academic, the other is some type of trade. Such as welding, plumbing, elect, auto repair, computer. I don't really know what the trades may be for the females. I talk to more men in Ja, than women, so I don't get much information on how they are routed thru school. I do know alot of them take up nurses assist.

I really wanted this this question to be infomational, to help others who may find their self in the same situations. How does the US job market recognize their level of education learning. Exclude College that is on another level.

I am aware that their high school education is set up entirely different than ours. Also, their trade school learning is set up different too. i.e plumbling, welding, electrician and computer.

If they have a trade occupation, how do they apply it here?

The jobs were all suit and tie jobs but he is not a suit and tie worker not right now at least. I have asked him many times why he wouldn't want to do desk job he said he would be bored and ppl would expect certain thngs from him smile.gif oh hubby..he love to use his hands very hard worker and he is always motivated cannot be 5 min late for work

Kimmy, thanks for this. I believe this is what is needed, by telling us how your SO felt when he went to the job fair. Kimmy I believe this was a great move, you wasn't the one preaching to him, he heard what was needed from others, so he didn't get defensive when you finally spoke about it. Great move.

Kimmy, with those qualities that you speak so highly of your husband with, I see why you made your decision. Im trying to get us to give advise to the masses, rather than to unique situations.

Would we be correct in saying that with the job market the way it is today, and what we know of our So country and their skill sets, it be okay not to aid them ( prep work)in preparing for a job interview.

This is something I feel we should speak to the masses on. First let's qualifie this by saying, each and every Man or Woman who comes here as our SO, is able to fend for their self. There is nothing in my questions or comments to belittle anyone.

For your SO job interviews and job application, do you'll do dry pratice run's before they go out and start looking and applying?

I only ask this because when I work with the guys in JA, for the summer recuritment program, I find that alot of the men spell the way they speak, and most of them do not do eye contact when they are speaking to you.
Some tend to speak so fast, that their english comes out poorly.(get gabage- up).

Now, when they get comfortable with the situation it is a different picture.

We didn't.

You did nothing because you felt nothing was needed?

The present job market is tight, so if your SO is competing against many more qualified candidates, what will give him an edge over the other candidates.

This is my thing, when I get off of the plane and into the car, I hand over whatever money I budget to spend for the trip to Joel. Now, I do hold back some US dollars back for my return flight homeexpense, but when that moment on, all of my needs must be handled by my husband.

If I want a drink, I just tell Joel and he should provide, I have not had any problems yet. If I want to buy gifts, I tell him and he gives me the spending money, so I never know when we have spent more or less than what i have handed him.

It was the same here in the US, if I was paying for dinner I would hand him my credit card, and let him give it to the waitress.

Morning Roxie - once your husband settles in and start contributing to the household - will be the same?

Just wondering - my observation is that once the man gets here...the woman stilll have total control over finances or have to buy their own gifts. I know in some situtations it depends on who manages money best but I love when a man does for their woman...don't care how small it is.

Sjb1221, my father said to me when I told him I was getting married. "Let the man wear the pants in the family" If he starts out taking care of you, he will continue to take care of you. He said you don't have to continue to show him how smart and savy you are, he know that. That is the reason he has choosen to ask you to marry him.

So, I have listerned to my father and I have gone inrto my marriage with the understanding that my husband is the provider of this union. We are partners in this marriage.

My husband brought me fresh fruit everyday when I was in Jamaica this past summer, and I treasured it as if he was buying me flowers everyday.

People will see what they want to see and people will feel what they want to feel. You can't change people, I have lived and worked among alot of different races. If you are brown skin of any race in the US, you will be look upon as of lesser value.

People are afraid of the unknown, so if they know nothing about your culture, they will shy away. Most people are good people and they don't care about race. They care more about respect and honesty.
