Well, I'm back from Montreal and one IR-1 visa approval richer! The things I was fretting over were indeed touched on in the interview (the medical history, the first 'technically illegal' AOS attempt), but I answered honestly and she accepted my explanations. YAAAAYYYY!!!

Congratulations, CHD kicking.gif

Hi Rajaa,

my hubby told me that I could look for work without my green card. My immigrant visa serves as a temporary green card for 1 year.

I am not looking for work right now, I am going to apply for Arizona driver's licence first. I am learning the driving regulations right now, I bought the driver's manual this week.

How are you all doing?

Hey Nimche,

I got my SSN card today in mail, I took them only 9 days to make it. kicking.gif

I do not have my Green Card yet, I suppose it would take much longer to produce it than the SSN card.
The immigration officer at the POE told me it could be 1 - 2 months.

Hope this helps

I have one last question that I just tought about it.

In plane when we are coming back, they will hand two cards to be filled out. One is for custom and second for I-94. I know that she doesn't need to fill I-94 but I was just going to make sure.

Thank you guys.

We are all packed and ready to go for 15 hours from now.

Thank you

You guys are so much of a help.

Hey Nimche,

when I was flying to the U.S. on NOVEMBER 16TH 2008, I was handed two cards - first for customs and second for I-94. I asked the crew if I really have to fill in the form for I-94. They told me that it is necessary to fill in the form for I-94. The crew was right cause the immigration officer wanted to see both forms - customs and I-94.

Hope this helps

Hi everybody,

I am already in the U.S., I arrived on November 16th 2008.
I would like to share my POE experience with you.

My POE was PHOENIX, Arizona.
I got off the plane and went to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. There were 2 sections – for U.S. Citizens and Residents, Foreign Nationals.

I was told to go to the Foreign Nationals section. Unfortunately, only 4 counters were opened at the Foreign Nationals section, so there was a huge line. I waited about ONE HOUR before it was my turn to speak to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer. I handed him the brown envelope and my passport and told him I had an immigrant visa. He opened my passport, checked my immigrant visa and then told me to follow him.

We went to an immigration office, there were about 4 other people waiting. I was told to sit down in a waiting room. After 30 minutes I was called to the counter. The immigration officer handed me my passport and was smiling all the time. He apologized for the long wait and told me welcome to the U.S. He did not ask any questions, took a fingerprint of my right index finger and I signed an application for a green card. The officer mentioned my green card should arrive in mail in one or two months. The officer also gave me a document with information about removing the conditions of residence in 2 years.

That was all, I went to baggage claim to pick up my suitcases and rushed to meet my hubby.

Hallo from Berlin,

Well, I have to talk long for the whole thing and what has happened to us. Visa got rejected due to short amount of years we have been married. Consular said you should have at least 10 years to get approval devil.gif

I am kidding.

Lets see, I am trying to be detailed (architectural explanation)

I flew with Delta. from San Diego to JFK and JFK to Rome. Since I have been flying with them for long time I am a premium member. They upgraded both of my flights to business class. (That was one of the best parts)
I got to Rome at 8 A.M. and Mimche at 11 A.M. and we were going to fly at 5 P.M. to Naples but because of the strike for AlItalia everything was cancelled and we didn't know till 7 P.M. and then we took the train with two other American Guy and Gal and came to Naples and arrived at Midnight. (This was all Monday)
On Tuesday, She had Medical at 8:15 A.M. and we got there around 8 and everything was done by 11. X-ray and measurements (She had all the Vaccines in Iran) and 180 Euro of our money.
On Wednesday Interview appointment was at 9 A.M. and we managed to meet the 8:45.
Front door and Security and all that and then we sat and saw all the people from medical day.
There was this guy had his desk in the lobby and was checking applicants documents. After couple of people we met with him and he said where are you documents. I told him that I have submitted everything and embassy should have all of them and he had this question mark on top of his head.

We sat again and we were called for her fingerprints. She looked at the file and went through everything and asked for original birth certificate and the rest was fine till she said “go pay this $400 and have a sit” my turn to have a big question mark.
I told here that I have paid the $400 and NVC has received it but she said there is no record of it what so ever therefore I have to pay it again. She said if you have already paid the fee we can email NVC and ask them to email us back your record of payment.
I told her that I am not willing to stay in this city for another day and I will give her the website for payment. I didn’t have it with me and I went back to Hotel and got it and then went back to embassy and she logged on in my account and said, there is no other problems and wait for consular to call you.
Consular (SHE) called us and then flip thru documents page and ask couple questions and told us to pick up your visa today at 5 PM.

That was it. Visa in Passport and is valid for one year.

Congratulations everyone (Specially to Nimche and Mimche) (Thank you)

Any questions are welcome.

Peace

Hey Martina,

Thanks, and congrats to you again. Isn't America GREAT!
Looks like you'll be home sooner than Ring Ring.
She's got a schedule full of friends and former co-workers that want to see her before she moves away.
Since she was working for the airline until a couple of weeks ago, she hasn't had the time to pack and see friends.
Now that she's retired (sounds like old person...but she's not) she has time to do things.
But she'll be home for the December holidays.

...the journey continues.

I am having a going-away party tomorrow evening. I invited about 15 friends to a restaurant, we are going to drink wine and beer and eat goulash. Then we are planning on going to a night club. I might get home really late, I guess. Parties in the Czech Republic are great, I got home at 4:00 AM last time.

Hi,

I was able to track one package going from the NVC to the U.S.Embassy in Madrid.
The package was sent on November 4th 2008 and was delivered on November 6th 2008.

The tracking number is 9483001220

I don´t know, if this was your application or no. No packages were sent on November 3rd or November 5th.
You might call the NVC and ask them when they had sent your application. If it was on November 4th 2008, you application has already been delivered.

Hope this helps

I passed my immigrant visa interview today, my immigrant visa was approved. I am soooooo happy !!!!!!! kicking.gif

I came to the U.S. Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic at 2:30 PM, my interview was scheduled for 3:00 PM.
I went through the security check, the security guard took my cell phone and put it in the box. He gave me a badge and I could go to the consular section of the U.S.Embassy.

I took a ticket from a kiosk and waited in the immigrant visa waiting room till my number appeared on the screen.
The consul asked for my medical exam, he didn´t want to see the X-rays. Then I was told to give him my passport. The consul didn´t ask for other things cause I had already submitted all documents to the NVC. The consul went through the papers and told me to wait until my number appears on the screen once more.

I waited about 10 mins and then I was called to the counter. I signed the DS-230 Part II, the consul took my fingerprints and asked me ONLY two questions:

How many times have you been to the U.S.?
Have you overstayed your visa?

Then he told me I was approved. I spent only 45 mins at the U.S.Embassy.

Hello,

You need to first check if you have Two year Residency requirement for your J1 visa. If INA 212(e) Two-Year Foreign Residence Requirement Pertaining to J-1 Exchange Visitors also applies to you then you need to get the waiver first.

Here is the link for J1 waiver.

Also, you can do Google search and you will find lots of postings on J1 waiver. Hope this helps.

Best.

thanks for info!!! My DS 2019 form says that I am NOT a subject to the 2year residence requirement,is that ok??

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK1 Interview Review

My interview was scheduled on 15th July, 2010. I was told to report at 8 a.m. I reached the US embassy at 7.15 a.m. After the security check, I was given a token number. Waited in a hall where immigrant and non-immigrant interviews were to be taken and got my finger print done.
Then I had to wait patiently for my turn. I went to the counter when my token number was displayed. An Indian lady took my papers and went through them.
She returned me few papers such as:
- Call logs, emails, greeting cards,
- Documents showing my fiancés visit to India (boarding pass, hotel and restaurant receipts)
- Birthday gift receipts, original date of birth certificate,
- I-134 supporting documents (bank statement, investment details, 2008-tax return) and X-ray report.

Finally, she told me to deposit the fees and informed me that K1 visa fees had increased to $350 US dollars. I submitted the bank draft and returned her 2 copies of the receipt. You can check exchange rate from the embassy’s website. Also, it is better to call or email them upfront to get the correct exchange rate. http://newdelhi.usem...vvisafees2.html
I had to wait for the final interview which was to be taken by the Consulate Officer who was an American lady. I was asked the following questions.

  • Who was sponsoring me?
  • How did we meet?
  • Was it an arranged match or other arrangements?
  • I previously visited US on J1 visa (Exchange visitor visa) and the Consulate officer wanted to know for what purpose my previous visit?
  • Whether I had gone to US for studying or whether I was working there?
  • a) Consulate officer asked for J1 waiver document (Two year foreign residency requirement documents)
  • When did I return from the US?
  • What is my qualification?
  • When did I get engaged?
  • Where is snaps/pictures?
Finally, the Consulate Officer told me I should get my passport/visa within a week. I was out of the consulate office by 9:30 AM.

TIPS for folks who visited US on J1 visa and applying K1/K3 (fiancé or Spouse visa):
Please ensure that you get the J1 waiver (Two year residency requirement) first before applying for any K1/K3 visa. Without the waiver the consulate officer will not issue K1/K3 visa. Also, getting J1 waiver from India is a real painful task, so start working on it upfront.
