Hi to everyone, here reporting to "AP DUTY", well my Noa2 was approved on 02/27, and my petition arrived at NVC on 03/04, I thoght I was gonna fly thru it, since it's my second time around, but I was wrong; I'm not stuck on AP and this morning when I called they asked for my figrl's e'mail address (tht was a first) and then the response was the same as usual, and since I read from page one, I know I should be expecting to be @ NVC for the regular 50 days ( which I'm really not counting on), but hopefully be out of there soon, in the meantime, just wanted to join this great group of people and make it a pleasent wait.

Good Luck Everyone

LUSH

Welcome and good luck!

Badgerella: Sorry to hear about your leg - hope it heals quickly. Maybe best to get it treated there before traveling to US where you'll need to deal with medical insurance here. Since it is a pre-existing condition you'll likely get a lot of grief processing claims here (I'm assuming you'll be joining your fiance's health plan, right?)

I won't be traveling to the US anytime soon (we expect it to be August-ish, even if my visa gets approved April 8th), so whatever this is, it'll have healed by then. We have free healthcare here in Croatia, so I'll be definitely taking care of this particular thing, as well as anything else I can think of before I leave. As a citizen of Croatia, I keep this insurance for life (or at least most of it), so many things will be done here even when I move to the States. Health-tourism is often a good thing. wink.gif

As for my insurance once I get into the US.. we don't know yet. We'll think about it when I am there. I'm overall in a good condition so there shouldn't be too many problems. wink.gif

Get well, and stay healthy.

A while back I looked into the subject of temporary health insurance. In the US insurance is usually offered as an employment benefit (unless you qualify for Medicaid/Medicare which pretty much by definition K visa immigrants do not). There is no 'automatic' government health insurance, at least for now.

To add a dependent to an employee's policy, you need to demonstrate the dependent's relationship, e.g. marriage, birth or adoption of a child, etc. So for K1s there is a gap. US Immigration law for K1s means that they enter the US as unmarried, and then marry within 90 days. But employment based health insurance means that they cannot be immediately covered under the employee's policy, and can be added only after marriage. So for at least the time from POE until marriage there is no coverage (and in fact, it probably takes a few weeks after marriage to add the new spouse to the group policy).

So personally - I think it's prudent to have a 'bridge' policy for catastrophic issues that can never be anticipated. While 40+ million Americans have no health insurance, I personally think it's a really bad idea to walk around uninsured. Accidents happen, and sudden health emergencies happen even to healthy people. Hospital costs in the US can be frightful if paid out of pocket. I'm rather amazed that this subject gets virtually no attention on VJ, since I would think it applies to virtually all K1 filers. Anyway, here's the post I wrote about this subject some time back:

http://www.visajourn...h...t&p=2631105

I know this subject really has nothing to do with AP@NVC, so is inappropriate here... but I do feel it is very important and offer this as a public service announcement wink.gif

I definitely agree that one's health is really important and that accidents happen when you least expect them. However, we still do not have a detailed plan about my insurance and how all that is going to work out. When I finally get there, we'll see if I can be added to my fiance's insurane (not likely, to be honest), or if there's some plan for me to live on, at least until I get my papers sorted (and find a job, of course). It won't take long until I have something. Might as well be planned before I even leave. It's just that right now there are many other things that are more important and require a lot of effort to be figured out.

I also must say that I am not that surprised the subject doesn't get much, if any attention here on VJ. Most people here are just passers-by, looking for quick information, or people looking to get married or somehow (re)united with their loved ones. It seems, at least to me, that many (of the latter) do not put much thought into their future lives at all. I have to admit that I am often really surprised at how quickly so many people can leave their home countries and, basically, start all over again!

I'll be there before the visa expires. If I get it, in the first place.

I won't be staying here that long because of my health. There are other things to do or just basically finish before I leave, the biggest and most important one being my college degree.

On an unrelated note, my month-old muscle strain turned into some sort of a calf muscle rupture yesterday, it seems. I'll be seeing a doctor later today and then dealing with at least 10 days of therapy (likely laser or ultrasound). Whee!

Just curious - have any of you had that variation before (asking for email address)?

Yes, almost every time. They'd ask me to verify my fiance's phone number, rarely ever mine and almost always his email address. I think only once one of the employees asked about my own. At least one couldn't tell whether I was male or female, even though I kept correcting them and telling them I was the beneficiary, fiancee and, therefore, a woman. I had that 'luck' to talk to a few of them who weren't American so, sadly enough for a service like this, they couldn't really speak English (or understand it, for that matter).

Everything was going smoothly for us, on schedule, until the NVC.....I received the letter that stated your petition will be forwarded to the consulate within one week. After speaking to an NVC official I found out this is an automated generic letter that goes out once they receive the petition from USCIS. Anyways, I stated I'm retired military and work as a contractor with an active DOD security clearance. That prompted a transfer to a supervisor. I was assured the additional background check wasn't for me but my beneficiary. Hmmmm... Now I did submit a name correction on 3 Mar because I made a typo on the original 129F (no RFE) but it was only one letter left out of her middle name. In fact, I already have my 2nd approved NOA2 from the name correction, yet the NVC didn't have that. So maybe that is why we are waiting.....Who knows!!! I was asked to email a copy of her passport to the NVC to verify the name correction so I did. I do hope that this is the cause of the review however I do feel this will trigger more scrutinizing of my finace at the consulate during her interview.

I have to say that so far, this is the most detailed AP explanation I've seen so far. I hope you get out soon. Good luck!

Hey we are stuck in AP as well sad.gif crying.gif We got the approval on December 29th. So is from this we count weeks? because our lawyer says it start from End of January. I dont know why...I am depressed, it got so closed... We had plans etc. NOW we are waiting i dont know for what. Does someone know if it can be denied or something like that? or how long does it take in AP? this is devastating me. I was waiting to be with my love in April, now we are walking in the dark with this.
Any information would be appreciated.
thing sadest is, you dont know anything, all that you hear is WAIT! if at least you knew that you are waiting something, but who knows...

Thank guys

I would also suggest calling NVC and checking your case status. Many answers to your questions can be found in this very thread. Good luck!

This was the best explanation I got a while ago. I'm sure someone else will chime in and help, but if you'll still need help when I get up, I'll do my best to put it in my own words. Having spent about 6 hours running from hospital A to hospital B, then C, and then back to A... all I can do is sleep.

The thread is nowhere even close to falling off, but I'll still bump it a bit!

All done with the medical. I don't need any additional vaccinations (yay Croatia!), my chest x-ray is all good. They drew my blood for HIV/syphilis test and it'll be done in 8 days. I really am confident I don't have it, so all is good. Overall, I am one very healthy cow.

Now I need to work more on gathering documents for the interview and, of course, studying for my remaining six exams.

I just wonder how you count days, since NVC got your case or when you got notification letter? Should I count from 02/13 or 02/20? huh.gif

If you know the date NVC received your case, then it's that what you use. Those letters mean nothing and are useless, since people seem to get them no matter what actually happens with their cases.

Thank you for explanations smile.gif Well, our case arrived on 13 Feb..ok, almost two weeks at NVC.. And about the letter, I will need it because when I called to make an appointment for medical exam I was said to bring a paper where they can see my full name with case # ( KEV - ************* ) I thought it is enough to tell them only case # but it wasn't.

The number you have on your NVC letter (KEV***********) is the right one, so you can use that, for sure. I don't even know what I will use myself. Or if I have to. All I remember from the instruction sheet (yeah.. too lazy to get up and go check unsure.gif ) is that I need my passport and three passport photos with me. What for.. I have no idea. They seem to be collecting so many, all over the place, that I am starting to suspect some weird voyeurism, or.. something. >_>

I don't think I could have gotten the medical done before getting out of AP. However, here in Croatia, the Embassy sends you Packets 3 and 4 at once, and those contain, amongst other things, all the information about the panel physicians and the medical itself. Besides that, pretty much no one seems to be applying for K visas, so they maybe process one or two a month, if that many at all. The medical should be done in a day, too, but we'll see.

If you can do it in advance, just go for it!

I mentioned Washington many pages ago in one of my posts. The NVC employee I talked to at the time had a bunch of problems with the English language, so I couldn't tell for sure what they were saying. It was something along the lines of this.

One odd thing they asked me several questions about a woman I had never heard of. Seemed it showed up on their record that she overlapped as a resident of the appartment my fiance moved into in Dec 2007. The overlap was only 2 months and he seemed to accept it when I said Charley had always lived there alone. Just made me wonder if this had popped up as a flag for us and was the reason for our extra checks.
