I think I'll give up. No matter what I type, I either get a blank page (DHL frames with nothing between them) or it tells me nicely that my search didn't provide any results.

Ohwell.

I am either really... mentally challenged, or all of this makes no sense to me.

In order to complete the search form, one needs to enter some information into some of those fields. WHAT are those things one enters?

All I have is our WAC number, or whatever it was, that our case was assigned the day USCIS got it. NVC then provided another number, that starts with a ZGB2008******. Is the latter used to track the package? If not, what exactly is? Because typing in just some random date does not accomplish the task at all....
BadgerellaFemaleCroatia2009-01-02 10:15:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAugust 2008 Filers
But what IS the reference?

I mean, is the ZGB******** the tracking number I am looking for, or is there some other magic one uses to find their case?

Question, since I seem to be very confused about this, now.

On this website, which numbers are you using to track your pacakge?

On our NVC letter (one of), they mention a ZGB[somedigits] number. Is that it?

It's how it does work... for those not stuck in AP anyway. This part of the whole process is really more confusing because it's different for each embassy so the documentation is less clear.

That's exactly what I meant - it works for everyone like that.. in theory. I mean, from what we've learned so far - it's the same. We have the case number, according to them, the file is about to be shipped, they just don't know if it'll be 'tomorrow', or in 'three weeks'. So it's the same for everyone, except that some get stuck longer than the others. Some have AP mentioned, some don't. Etc.

Really unclear part of the procedure, where you can't really figure out anything at all. Let alone be sure that what you DO know actually IS what is going on!

You call them up, the number is on the NOA2 hard copy (it's 603-340-0700), then you push 1 for english and 5 for talk to an operator. Tell the operator your WAC or EAC number, name and bday of fiance, your name and bday, and they can give you the case number and tell you when they sent (or will send) the petition out, this date is important because you can use it to track if the package has been received by the embassy or not... but you'll have to look around for how to do that, I don't know (and mines not actually shipped yet so it won't be possible to look... it's a DHL tracking number thing I guess).

Are you sure this is how it works? NVC has our case, we received an email (and then an actual letter in mail, too) from them, too, saying they have it and that it'll be shipped to the Embassy in Zagreb within a week, too. The same email contained our (new) case number. This was, if I recall correctly without checking my timeline, on Dec 18th.

Yesterday my fiance received an email from NVC, in response to his question about our case status and it mentioned administrative processing. I then called the NVC on the phone, too, and - regardless of the letter containing case number (which is a correct one, as I used it to get the information on the phone), as well as that 'we'll send your stuff' announcement, our case is still sitting at NVC and will do so until they decide to ship it over. According to the woman I talked to, this is a part of their standard procedure - some cases leave NVC in just a few days, but anything up to three weeks (or longer) is perfectly normal. Right now, again, according to her, there might be some holiday-related delay, too. Once the files LEAVE NVC, you receive another email/letter.

Long story short - what I am saying here is that the first letter (or even a set of them) from NVC doesn't mean a thing.

Random confusion:

So we got our electronic NOA2 on the 12th.

I just went to check our case online. Just because. And... we've been touched since. Our current Last Updated field displays 12/15/2008.

Abuuh? They couldn't get enough of us?

Wonder why they started in the middle of August and skipped the beginning of the month. I don't think they have an order, someone grabbed a random pile.

That's what I've been thinking, as well as saying. Perhaps a few (no idea what the actual number would be) USCIS workers are in a bit of a hurry before the holidays (planning to be away for a bit longer, or whatnot) and therefore they decided to finish the pile assigned to them a bit earlier. Who knows. It doesn't make much sense, but I have to say I still appreciate the outcome.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm getting closer and closer to where I can actually pack my bags and leave. Down from 9 to 7 exams in two days, taking one more tomorrow. Well, okay, I'm still in need of a visa, but like someone said earlier in the thread - I don't consider denial an option either. Or try to believe so.

Hahaha, if I could give you my approval first, I would. It's just that with how slow they were doing approvals I made sure to apply to give us enough time in case they went really slowly, or if we received an RFE for any reason.
But the thing with us is that I am the American, but I have been doing my entire undergrad. degree in Wales, which is where I met my fiance two years ago. I will graduate July '09, and we are planning to get married pretty quickly afterwards. So we applied with lots of time and just hoped they wouldn't approve us *too* quickly (because it would kind of suck if he had to move to America like a month early without me, live with my parents, and miss my graduation) but I think this will all still work out.

Hahah. We timed our petition.... notright, too, it seems. ;) But we're still happy about our NOA2.

Looks like it's Vermont today, doing its thing.

However, I'm glad to see there are more people who are NOT looking to move to the US the moment they receive their visa. (Or, in other words, those who'd like to play with dates to get it all sorted the way that'd work best for them.)

Wow, 3 august CSC approvals, and what's even more exciting is uh... two of them have the same sent date as me, and the same NOA1 date as I do!... man I hope my petition is sitting in that bucket too...

Our theory:

They approved us over a month too early because....

...our adjudicator decided to clean their desk for the holidays, to make room for cookies and such, and our file somehow ended up on the 'to do' pile. That must be how or why it happened.

He assured me that the K-1's do not go to NVC......hmmmmm. He claimed to have worked there for the last several years and that is how K-1's are done. Our NOA2 was an approval on Dec 22 and am in the same boat. RexT

Well, I know for sure that our K-1 spent 7 weeks (52 days, to be exact) sitting at the NVC.

yeah there are several Dec approvals that got AP....at this point I wouldn't even mind AP if they just knew where my stinking petition was! Not sure what happened in December, they were cranking out approvals so maybe they were just making more mistakes. I keep praying and I am really hoping my petition will show up this week.

I wouldn't recommend AP. It's basically the same as not knowing where your case is - they won't tell you anything, but the case itself won't go anywhere either.

I don't know if you two have it worse, or is it actually my fiance and I who are screw*d. Our NOA2 was dated Dec 12th, approved by CSC. NVC letter was dated Dec 18th. We've been in AP since. It's nearing 7 weeks and we're not yet out - my fiance received an email today, in response to his inquiry, saying that, of course, we're still there.

Someshit must be happening with many December NOA2s.

I finally landed a job last week and should start as soon as they're done with the background checks. Considering the fact I just moved from Europe... yeah, right. It'll take a week or two, at least.

The job is far from a dream job, but it'll do for the time being. Pay is great, and it comes with a full benefit package (medical, dental, visual, 401k, paid sick days, vacation days). Shifts are fine, too. It's downtown and also pretty close to where we live, so that's a plus, too. Should work fine with my returning to school, which is what we have planned for the next fall.

Oh, good news, then. I'm hoping to receive the permit before Christmas season (as in... before.. actual Christmas, I guess), so I can at least apply for one of the million jobs that are out and about at any and all stores. I have no idea what I will, eventually, end up doing here. Our city is pretty small (45000-ish people, not counting 16000 or so college students) and I can't really see many things I'd be interested in, even if there were job openings. Most people work in retail, which is something I really hope I won't ever be doing. I just can't see myself as a sales person at... Old Navy, or anything of the sort. Phone operator, even less (been there, tried that, while finishing school back in Croatia). With a college degree in journalism (public relations, specifically), I have no idea what I'll accomplish. Maybe we'll just have to move. Haha. At least there is no language barrier, I mostly sound like I am from here and, besides English and Croatian, I speak a few other languages and can get by when it comes to some more. None of those is Spanish, however. It's just my name that is a tiny bit misleading. wink.gif

My file was transfered to USCIS a couple days ago so I assume there will be no interview. Biometrics appointment is scheduled for November 24th and, overall, I'm waiting for things. Hopefully EAD arrives soon.

You need biometrics for your EAD, so expect a longer waiting time. smile.gif

I'm doing the biometrics thing on the 24th (so basically a week from now), which is why I hope EAD shows up soon after that, too. How long does it normally take?

Gemmie, it is volunteering you are applying for, so I am sure they would understand your problem and, I assume, be happy to reschedule your shift. After all, you'd be working for them for free, not them for you.

As for transportation, I fully understand it. I can't get anywhere without a car either (but luckily we have one I can use and I can drive, too).

I am about to apply for volunteering at our local YMCA. They need someone to deal with kids after school and I'd be happy to help with that. Animal shelters were my first idea, but I know I wouldn't be able to handle that - I'd likely bring about 30 dogs home...

I seriously do not have an A number anywhere on my visa or I-94. There's something starting with an A on the NOA2, but that one starts with a 0 and has a digit too many.

I'll probably contact the Embassy in Zagreb to see if they can help me. If they can't (which actually might happen because they'er pretty much done dealing with me, since I am now in the US and all), then I have no idea who I would contact....

Thanks everyone for your help.

My SSN card has been reissued (unless they lied on the phone, which of course might be a chance) and should be here next week. Then we'll start with the AOS and hopefully do it right.

My alien number, however, isn't anywhere on my visa - the annotation field says nothing, whereas my little brother had other things written there ("Going to sister's wedding in XXXXXX"). So the only A-looking number is the 9-digit one on our NOA2.

Here I come with a few more questions (as usual, we're always the ones who don't seem to be getting this right).

1. Is it important or required to have a Social Security Number before filing for AOS, and why?

2. A few other questions are here, it just seems that people don't read other subforums nearly as much as, say, this one.

3. Has anyone else had to register with their local Post Office (USPS, no kidding) in order to get their SSN delivered to their address? I have been getting mail in both my maiden and new name without problems, but apparently my SSN card has gotten lost because I never registered my existence with the post office. Jesus.

Thanks for your help. My head is spinning. Sigh.
