I talked to the Embassy just now.

They have an electronic copy of our file, the date of the interview has not yet been set (the guy said it often is the NVC that sets it, but our case says nothing about it). I mentioned the 7 week wait, he said there were no notes about it, at all - so.. our case spent seven weeks at NVC sitting at someone's desk?? Who knows. Either way, they'll contact me with instructions and some interview date as soon as they physically receive the case, which should be next week. Funny fact - they knew me by the name, they didn't need my case number, or anything. That says enough about the number of K1 cases that go through this embassy, haha. Another funny fact - I asked if he wanted the case number to check if they had it and he didn't need it because - the cases just sit there in his drawyer if they have it. So there really are just a few of us going through this process in Croatia.

Now we wait. DHL says our case is in Ohio right now. Should be here tomorrow, I assume, but I doubt there's anyone available at the Embassy on Saturdays.

I got the information from NVC, not someone at random, when I asked about our case being stuck there forever and expiration dates getting closer and closer. So it should be perfectly valid, what they said. It makes sense, too. What they're holding onto, for whatever reason, can't really expire, can it?

OMG! I just called juarez conculete and they have received my package! BUT they said that there are alot of people waiting before me and that I might have to wait months!!!!! even after my NOA2 expires!!!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO????

Your NOA2, or any other document can't expire as long as it's in USCIS, NVC or USEM hands. They all get automatically extended as long as they have them. So about that, you really don't have to worry.

I couldn't resist, so I called about half an hour ago.

Our damn stack of papers was forwarded to Croatia yesterday. About time.

52 days of waiting, according to the dates she mentioned today. We thought they received it on the 18th of December last year. Apparently, it was the 15th.

for those that are still waiting, you should just call USCIS everyday and speak to a supervisor, yes they will give the same answer but maybe someone will actually do something!!

Or they'll get pissed off and do something nasty to your case. Just like those at NVC could.

I don't know anymore how often I should be calling, who I should ask to speak to or what kind of answer, other than 'Oh hey, you're out of AP' I should accept.

I am getting more and more sick of this process.

If anything, not many people care about the US Embassy in Zagreb, or the visas they could obtain, so it's perfectly free to contact them. As for NVC, thank god Skype is cheap.

Meh. Meh. Meh.

DHL hasn't been working for me, so I can't even track the packages. Next time one to Croatia appears, I'll be calling New Hampshire again. Probably to just hear that we're still in AP, but oh well.

And counting, of course.

What a bunch of idiots! Why would they keep it there?

And likely you've called and received no information...?

For no reason at all. Our background is 100% clear.

We've been calling about once a week. They say nothing. Some mention AP, some talk #######.

I read a little about AP a while back, especially AP at NVC, but I didnt worry about it too much, just hoped for things to go normally - and they did. Then, I got stuck in AP at the embassy - I didnt even know they had AP at the embassy until they cancelled our interview. I have been trying to find out more about Embassy AP, but have not seen anything and have no idea about how long it will take. I know there is no timeframe for NVC AP, but I was wondering if anyone has seen anything on embassy AP and how long it takes - especially Tokyo Embassy.

Sorry, but i was kinda thinking you might be an expert now Badgerella. Thanks.

Unfortunely, I don't know that much about any AP procedures at all and that is mostly because - nobody seems to know. So far, I've gathered that you can end up in AP at any stage of the process - USCIS, NVC or USEM, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were possible even somewhere in between, somehow. What I know, hopefully for sure (from reading posts here and asking one of the NVC agents), your papers can't expire as long as they're in their hands (again, any of the three - USCIS, NVC and USEM) - if things get stuck, all the dates get automatically extended.

Apparently, the only thing one can do is to sit and wait. What makes me worried the most, even though there are people who have gotten their visas recently after a long period of AP-ing at the NVC stage, is that our visa will be denied for some reason. I can't think of any reasons why it would be so, but after all the waiting, I am starting to feel paranoid and any and all scenarios where the US government pins something on us at random comes into play.

Try to look around the NVC/Embassy forums, and the like, for more information about delays and various processing. I have to admit I knew nothing about NVC AP, as well as the special NVC forum on this website before our case got there as well.

It seems many people who filed in July/August 2008 keep getting stuck at various stages of the process and that those aditional security checks or whatever they are take longer than they ever did.

ssgtam08 - AP is administrative processing that can, apparently, happen at any stage of a visa process. Nobody knows for sure what is being done there, or why. Timefrime is also unknown. What we do know, though, is that it doesn't feel good when you're in it.

Been feeling crappy lately.. even though we have the NOA2, our case is in London, and the medical/interview is waiting to be set up, I can't do anything about it yet cause I'm not going anywhere for a while.

This is kind of similar to our situation. We have our NOA2, but our case is not in Zagreb. They're chewing on it at NVC, doing their mysterious AP thing. Normally, it wouldn't be that big of a deal that the case is 'delayed' somewhere, but since we don't know what's up with it, when it will come out, and how it will affect the actual interview... it's eating us alive.

Why do I say your situation is kind of similar? Because I am not going anywhere for a while either. Even if the case got forwarded to Zagreb tomorrow, I'd still have to call them and reschedule the interview for mid to late March. I have to make sure I leave myself enough time to graduate before I leave.

Either way, meh. It's something like 6 weeks and 4 days of us being stuck at NVC. And it's hard to believe that AP doesn't affect one's interview. Even though there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that could raise a red flag of any sort. Unless, of course, they make it up.

For AP, or the fact that we're worried about the outcome of the interview?

As far as we know, there should be no reason for AP. No previous marriages, no name changes, no children, no immigration history or criminal records of any sort. Nothing at all.

Why worried about the interview? Because we're in AP and we have no idea at all why it is happening. Nor we'll ever find out, as much as I know.

Some questions they ask for on your medical (Philippines - St. Lukes)

1. Any Major operations?
2. Do you have Asthma?
3. Are you allergic to any medicine or food?
4. Do you smoke marijuana?
5. Do you smoke cigarettes?
6. Do you drink alcohol?
7. Have you ever had Chicken pox? (if yes) Where are the marks?
8. Have you ever had an abortion?
9. Have you ever attempted to commit suicide?
10. When was your last menstrual cycle?
11. What are those scars? How did you get them?
12. Do you have dentures? Any permanent fillings?
13. How many pregnancies? Any miscarriages?
14. When was the last time you had sexual contact? How was it?

If we ever actually get out of AP at NVC, I can at least look forward to a medical that's not nearly as detailed as this one, as well as the one from Maliciant's summary.

According to the girl who recently passed the medical in Zagreb, there are no idiotic questions asked (such as number 14. here.. #######????). They draw some blood (HIV test), do a chest x-ray and ask to see our vaccination record. The end.

What is "AP"?

AP: Administrative Processing, also referred to as AR: Administrative Review. As described by US immigration, this is further processing of an applicant's file after the interview...there is no minimum or maximum time requirement for this. As described by fellow VJers, AP is a black hole, of which no one has an idea where it begins and where it ends...and it means more time waiting...waiting...waiting...not knowing when you will get the visa, you are at the mercy of the consulate at this point of the stage.
The effects of AP: mad.gif crying.gif cray5ol.gif

I am still being positive and deep down, I am not even thinking that my fiance will be put on AP, if he does....at least I know that UK is much faster getting back to you with the visa than other countries.

AP happens at the NVC stage, in New Hampshire, which is one step before the consulate-related business, aka the visa interview. Therefore, people stuck in AP really are not at the mercy of the consulate. They're just nowhere, waiting for whatever nothing to get done.

3 weeks and counting, for us. We'll be calling again sometime tomorrow.

You can do it. I always call and I'm the beneficiary.

They want you to have your WAC number (the one from USCIS) ready (later it'll be whatever they give you), beneficiary and petitioner's day of birth. They might ask you some additional questions which you, as the beneficiary, should easily be able to answer (email(s) or phone number(s) verification). Sometimes they'll ask who you are, sometimes they won't.

The information you get from them, though, should be taken with not just a grain of salt, but an entire warehouse instead.

The whole thing is even more annoying because it really seems to be happening at random.

We have our NVC letter, the one that came via snail-mail. It says our case will be forwarded to the USEM (Zagreb, Croatia) within a week. So the letter itself clearly is useless and tells you nothing.

Sure it will be forwarded. Maybe. Eventually. We learned about the AP XP days after the hardcopy. We emailed them, and then called, too. Two different people on the phone so far, two different answers.

If you don't get stuck at NVC, that is. We have our snail-mail letter. But our case is still rotting in New Hampshire. It's been over three weeks, now. =/

what reasons would cause a hold up at the NVC?

I must admit I actually - do not know.

What I meant to say is - our petition/case is perfectly clear and easy. No previous marriages, no name changes, no police or any other records. But we're stuck, for a reason we don't know... and won't ever find out.

the bulk of the verification should of been done at USCIS, why again at NVC...

I really don't know. It's called Administrative Processing and it's explained, I think, in the special forum down this website... NVC thing. I must admit I never really took time to read it all, since all that matters is the fact that - you can't do sh*t about it. It gets stuck and you sit and wait and......... hope your petition doesn't expire in the meanwhile.

Some get out after a few weeks, some get months and, as far as I understand, some get eaten by a grue there, too.

NVC sent us letters (mail and email_dec. 17) saying that our case will be forwarded to the embassy. i'm about to call the embassy on monday for interview appointment but just found out today that alot of earlier filers' cases are stucked up at the NVC for the Administrative Process (more back ground checkings) eventhough NVC sent them notfication letter saying that their case has been forwarded to their designated consulate.

thank u,
jazz

As much as I have learned, so far at least, NVC is nothing but a giant pithole that makes no sense at all.

We got our NOA2 on Dec 12th. NVC has had our case since Dec 18th, or something like that. We've gotten one letter, saying they'll be forwarding our case to Croatia in just a week. It's been about two weeks since, mind you.

My fiance then sent an email inquiry and got a reply saying the case was AP'd.

Meanwhile, I've talked to two different NVC agents on the phone. First one said (a few days ago) that the case was still there, under some whatever standard procedure and a bit delayed because of the holidays. All was good and there were no problems at all, she said. Yesterday I talked to a guy who said it was AP and that the said thing, of course, has no timeline.

Now we'll see what happens. If I call again, I'm sure they'll tell us it's been stolen by a little green potato.

Definitely not our case, the one that was sent to Croatia 15-ish days ago.

Just talked to some NVC guy and he said we were in AP. Maybe if I call some other time, they'll say they've never seen it at all. Who knows.

Yay.

Only one item has been sent to Croatia in the past 15-ish days, or so (my fiance managed to get the search to work; I still can't).

If the woman I talked to on the phone the other day had no idea what she was saying, it's ours. If it's not ours, it's kind of cute to see that so few Croatians are trying to get into the US this way.

I'll maybe call NVC later today. Curious, what can I say.

I think I'll give up. No matter what I type, I either get a blank page (DHL frames with nothing between them) or it tells me nicely that my search didn't provide any results.

Ohwell.
