Something random, perfectly off topic and not at all K1 related.. but it'll keep us on the first page! wink.gif

Why does it say my signature is too long when I want to add more to it? There are countless people on VJ who have there a lot more than I do, including huge JPGs, tickers and whatnot. What's in my signature right now is the most it'll hold for me. Is it the color? Are the repetitive codes what is filling in my space requirement?

So, wow, maybe it was coincidence - but night and day difference between my experience with calling USCIS service number and with calling NVC today.
I got an email notification that the approval notice USCIS had sent had been returned by USPS, and to call and update my mailing address (me being the petitioner). While this didn't impact the Visa process any, I figured I might as well make sure my address was right just in case. Even for something as simple as this, the person on the phone was rather curt and impersonal ... not a friendly voice at all. Rather glad I wasn't trying to get any other information from them.
On the other hand, when I called the NVC to see if they received the petition from the USCIS, the operator there was very friendly, and took time to answer some questions I had and was quite patient with me making sure I had all the numbers written down correctly smile.gif
Is this a universal experience, or just me?

Oh, and according to the NVC op, Visa petition was sent to the Tokyo embassy on March 5th! w00t!!!

I talked to many NVC employees during our 50-something days of AP and not a single one of them was friendly. They acted like parrots, repeating the same line over and over again. Some couldn't even understand English or, basically, speak it.

Hi All! Just checking in to say hello. On Friday it'll be two weeks since our petition was approved, so I will be calling NVC to see if it has arrived there and if I can get any status update on it. Anything I need to know for calling, or just have my NOA2 receipt number in hand?

You'll need the number, as well as both the petitioner and beneficiary's dates of birth, as well as names. Here and there they'll ask you to verify an email address or a phone number.

That was fast, Gemmie.

It seems the medical goes a lot slower here in Croatia (it took me about 6 hours, or so), but mostly because they want you to run back and forth between three different facilities on three different ends of town. Besides that, everything went smoothly for me, too. The forms are being filled by the doctor, there are basically no questions asked, etc.

Today I am supposed to have photos taken, that are to be sumbitted with my K-1 form , but I can't seem to find the exact size requirements. Does anyone know? Preferably in centimetres.

I know it's supposed to be 'passport' size, but here in Croatia, I think, passport size is not the same as in the US. I also know that photos you submit with your tourist visa application are some special size, too. Are these to be that size as well?

Thank you for your help.

Once the K1 Visa is approved, your fiance has six months to leave Japan and once he enters the US the 90 days begin to count down. So all together you will have about nine months from receiving the visa to getting married (if you want to get married so late).

I assume this doesn't stand for just Japan, but I'd still like to make sure.

Just to go through it once more - once K-1 is approved, you can wait six months before leaving your homeland (Croatia, in my case) and then there are three more, from the day you enter tha States until you get married?

I wouldn't want to use up all the waiting time, but in case our visa gets approved too soon (as insane as it sounds), we'd be really happy with some wiggle time until some things are all set...

The K1 will have a validity date of 6 months from the time it is issued. That means you can use it to enter the U.S. (just once) within six months.

After you arrive in the U.S. you have 90 days in which to marry your fiance.

The process at the uscis stage is pretty much the same for everyone. Petitions are approved pretty much the same although some do face extra scrutiny when security/database checks require extra work. Few are denied at this level unless it is proven one of you isn't legal to marry...etc...

At the Consulate stage it varies greatly... Higher fraud Consulates can give you serious ageda..and others have a reputation of waiting months before they schedule interviews. Others will give you an interview within weeks! The Embassy Info link at the top will give you an idea of your own Embassy.

Thank you! We've already looked up the time required for an approval and all, I just wanted to make sure we had a bit of a wiggle time after the petition, and then hopefully the visa, too, is approved. We don't plan to wait if the K-1 gets approved, but just in case I don't graduate before then, I'll need a little bit of extra time. =)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 validity question
Thank you for your help.

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure. I assumed the box on top of that form was related to the petition itself, not the visa.

How much time do I have, though, between the petition approval (or, well, the I-129F being forwarded to the Embassy in Croatia) and my interview?
BadgerellaFemaleCroatia2008-08-01 13:42:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 validity question
I've been browsing basically all K-1 related threads. I looked at I-129F form just now and noticed, in the first top block (for USCIS use only), a box saying: "The petition is approved for status under Section 101(a)(5)(k). It is valid for four months from the date of action. ____________________ "

Does anyone know what this means?

I was told, here on the forum, that once K-1 is approved, there is a 6 month wait for the person to leave the home country and enter the States. Upon their arrival to the US, a new counter starts, leaving them 90 days to get married. Is this correct? Or, in other words, does the box from I-129F not relate to the 6-months wait?

It is really important for me to know how long I can stay in my home country, as I might end up needing every tiny bit of some 'extra' time.

Thank you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarrying on B-2 visa and HB returning home??

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarrying on B-2 visa and HB returning home??
How does that make sense, though? I mean, sure, just to state it once more, a whole bunch of things makes no sense at all, but still.

I'm about to apply for another B-2. Three so far have been denied for no good reasons at all (details in some other thread). I keep being advised to tell them, this time, that I actually want to go visit my fiance. Because, well, lying about visiting some friends and family and then, a few months after that convicing another CO that I have an ongoing relationship with an USC who... I, uh, forgot to mention just a few months ago, really does not sound like a plan to me (as well as those people who keep telling me to just outright say where I want to go and, due to all the inconsistencies in the system itself, likely deal with yet another denial).

So, sure, I really don't think it's illegal to get married, just like it's not illegal to fall in love or go to Disneyland, but I do assume that people who actually do it should, y'know, suffer a bit. At least as much as those who are not allowed to spend their vacation in the US because the color of their hair isn't something a CO is in love with.
BadgerellaFemaleCroatia2008-08-02 12:26:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarrying on B-2 visa and HB returning home??
Unless I am reading all of this wrong, I can not see how this could be legal. It sure gets done, probably all the time, with the B-2 holders both returning and not returning to their home countries, but it still does not make it legal.

When asking for a B-2, you're asking for a tourist visa, and, as much as I remember, the form (D-whatever, or whatwasit) even has a question on it asking if you plan to get married while in the States.

I would assume that, if you circle yes, you'd basically be outright denied your tourist visa. The moment you circle no and end up marrying and then doing whatever (even if it's jsut returning to your homeland), you're doing what you said you wouldn't be doing. Which then makes the whole thing a bit illegal, no?

I would assume you could still get your K3 sometime later and that it likely wouldn't take any longer, or be any more difficult. Maybe you'd even get awarded for not doing things the right way (considering the marriage on a B-2), but that's, maybe, just me and my experience, as well as disappointment with the system as is.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTourist Visa
I have applied for a tourist visa three times so far. At the time, there was no mention of a fiance or anything else in the States. I really only wanted to be a tourist. Here are details of how awesome it went down and how wonderful and fair the system is. I will be applying for another tourist visa in about a month, probably only because my fiance and I feel like donating $130 to the US government.

I really hope K-1 is nothing like that.

...(usually the embassy, depending upon the country, looks for a certain amt. of money for her to even be considered from what I understand), a stable job, a family, property/land, a car, etc.

They most certainly do - during my last interview, with a CO who was not at all familiar with Croatia, I specifically asked about the money she kept referring to - I was told that I would have to be making at least 100 dollars a day, which amounts to 15,000 kunas a month, while an average Croatian salary people live on is 4500 or less. (I make more than the average, but that was irrelevant, along with all other things that perfectly fullfill the requirements.) At the same time, Croatia is not a high-fraud Embassy nor do people here wish to immigrate on a regular basis.

Translated to something people around here would be more familiar with - it would be like saying that you have to make $15000 a month to be able to buy food in the US.

please start a new topic with a new question so that others can find the answers easier. ;)

Whether they cash the check or not depends on the person processing payment. If there is a problem with the check the entire packet will be returned to you.

I was actually hoping I could edit the title of the thread, but it seems I can't really figure out when you can, or can't edit your posts. It seems random! Either way, I don't think I should now start a new thread, since this one's already been replied to? =)

I hope they'll will try to cash it as soon as possible and then return it promptly, if the person processing payment decides to start nitpicking. Right now, we really hope they'll just want the money. ;)

I guess we're just not doing things right, so I have another question.

I assume a check without a date can't be cashed and will be returned to my fiance? He just remembered he didn't date the check.

Assuming they'll return it, how long should we expect this to add to our processing time? Is this the same as any other RFE, or, even better, is there anything he could do to correct this mistake?

The petition was sent on Aug 20 and received today. It's CSC we're dealing with.

Yes, it's I-129F in the package and everything else, after numerous checkups and triplequadriplemillionchecks is inside. It's just the 'typo' on the cover letter that does not the match the actual content of the package.

Thank you.
BadgerellaFemaleCroatia2008-08-22 09:06:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSmall mistake on the cover letter
On our petition, that was sent a couple days, ago, there seems to be a small mistake on the cover letter. I would assume something like that shouldn't and wouldn't be a big deal, but I'd still like to hear your opinions.

On that first sheet, the cover letter, it says I-129 Petition for Alien Fiancee, instead of I-129F. I-129 is something completely different (some work-related visa?), but I assume this is more considered a typo, than something USCIS would sweat over, but.. you can never be sure, I assume.

Opinions, please?
