James,

Don't worry, you'll be fine. Your wife's visa will be good for her to enter the US, at POE the Immigration officer will stamp her passport with the I-551 stamp which will let her go in and out of the US for a year even if she doesn't have her green card with her. Meanwhile sit tight until you receive her green card in the mail which could take anywhere from 2 to 7 weeks, depending on how fast the USCIS can process her paperwork. But don't think that she cannot travel unless she has her card because the I-551 stamp will let her do this.

Diana

Diana you are such a good help I would love to send a postcard haha.

So we can be worried free? Do you think that the persons at the POE will demand a permanent address out of Adry or can she ask how long will it take to process. We are only staying 4 weeks max at my home residence now and then in between hotels from then on till March/April. Will they let us put down my Father's address at the POE just in case it takes longer?

And at the POE will they take her passport from her? She was worried about that as well and we need that to help process her Korean Visa as well. Also when they ship the green card via mail do they require the applicant to sign off on it or is it just mailed regularly?

Questions questions questions biggrin.gif.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Adry says a very special thanks to you Diana! You should add us in facebook --- caliboylost@yahoo.com (me) aarzayus@gmail.com (adry)

James,

Once your wife enters the US the USCIS will take about 2-7 weeks to enter her information in the system. If you marked the DS-230 to automatically get her SS# they will mail it to her as soon as her info is available in the system. You can call the USCIS a few weeks after she's arrived to find out if they're done entering her info, if they say they have and the SSA hasn't sent her her SS#, then you will have to go there in person to get it. But eventually she should get her SS# and her green card in the mail.

Diana

Hello Diana and everyone else. Seems I am going to be one busy bee coming in January. I got off the phone from calling the USCIS today and was told limited information on how I should go about my wife entering the country, getting all her documents in order, and then leaving the country in March/April to go with me to South Korea. Yes... its going to be one jalapeno of a burning mess if I do not get things right. So I was going to come back here to see if you guys had any more advice or suggestions? Right now I know that my wife's CR1 visa can get her in and out of the country once she gets her resident 2 year card. But i dont know how long this takes and we have a limited time frame to work with. (PLUS my tour is ending in the states and im going to be jumping place to place for schooling and then taking vacation back home in california). I am almost thinking that I should just leave my dad's address as a place where we can file all our paperwork from because its permanent. Anyway feel free to give me anything you can to help me in this ongoing process lol.

PS I wish my wife and I could stay in the states to tackle this together but duty calls...
PSPS And yes the Korean Visa A-3 military dependent visa is a cinch to get.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving- Ken, I hope Leidys enjoyed her first turkey day, and all the first Thanksgiving's that Club Colombia fiancee's experienced.
Today marks 7 months in AP for me, and am quite sure that nothing will happen this year, if ever, in my case. But, I just keep trying to forget about things- some days I want to write a scathing email to the embasy, and other times I want to plead with them! Oh well... helpsmilie.gif

Joe

Joe I do not know what to tell you. Can you think back on the day of beloved's interview that could possible help give you clues on to why this would take so long?? Was the CO unhappy this day? What was the atmosphere like on that day? Was there an unusually large amount of people being interviewed? What kinds of questions did they ask? Was there any descrepencies that were brought to your cases information? I want to help you if at most just being a P.I. so that we can help you sort out some ideas and how you can reattack this. Obviously your Congressman is not doing enough, did you write to any other reps that are more active in the immigration policy reform? Maybe teamed up together they can steamroll the embassy and get you the information you both deserve. For goodness sakes, its going to be the Holidays and they should take heart.

For my sake I know I am just a recent visa interview aproval but I am still going to be alone for the holidays. Tickets are outrageously expensive on the return leg from either Bogota or Barranquilla. You have to return to the states after the 6th before you see a sharp decrease in prices. Sucks for me because I cannot take any more leave longer than a week in my military job for January due to my time constraints. Thus I ended up just buying a solo one way ticket from BAQ to MIA on the 8th for nearly 500 bones.. Ugh... And 40 dollars more on top of that because of that stupid tax. Ahwell. I hope to read you complaining about this stupid tax too, soon ahah.

PS I hope you are using a magic jack to talk to you woman, they are an extremely powerful way of showing your phone history and muy barato tambien.

Colombia Club II - one more thing to add.

BEWARE! THE EXCESSIVE TAXES

When I purchased Leidys' one-way ticket on COPA Airlines, I paid for an all taxes-inclusive ticket. Yet, when Leidys flew out of Barranquilla, she had to pay an additional tax, and she was not directed to the "Extencion" counter where her boarding pass should have been stamped as paid. This set me back $40 at Western Union yesterday.

BEWARE! If you are sending for your Fiancee and ______ cannot fly back with you, be prepared for this person to get stiffed at the airlines counter, because they look unprepared or unexperienced to deal with this sort of discrepancy.

Ugh one more thing i have to worry about when I fly Adriana out of Barranquilla :/. So I am picking a date for January 8th to fly from B because right now as it standings any flights closer from the 8th are insanely expensive. Sucks because I wanted to fly and be there for her when she flies to the US for the first time and visit with her family. Now that we did indeed confirm the astronomical prices we agreed that it is best I fly her out of Barranquilla alone straight to Miami. Although I really love the holidays, I am going to have to lay down my heart complete ribbon until mi esposita can be with me. So for all of you else out there Happy Turkey day, i hope it is a good one for you but for me I need to jump leaps and bounds through this holiday season till January smile.gif.

Sooooooooooooooo with the CR1 visa... whats next? Social Security? Military ID? Are some of the things I know but since I am moving straight to S Korea in March I want to get a tackle on things. I know the visa for S Korea is insanely easy to get so I am not worried about that one. Just want to remain on top of things with no surprises.

Thanks to kens great posts we are staying at the apartment now. Everything is as he said. We had the laboratory and doctor appointments yesterday all went well. Riding the city bus standing up is like an e ticket ride. We went to the central commercial mall down town after the doctor and hung out long wait for taxi back from there last night. Well today we are going to check out the sheriff restaurant for lunch soon and visit my fiancees aunt later then interview tomorrow. Good luck to everyone else and any questions on things here will be happy to answer.

I think it is great that my posts were able to help you. Please let us know what happens at the Interview. Remember, PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION AT THE EMBASSY ARE A REAL GOOD IDEA. ESPECIALLY, WITH THE CONSULAR OFFICER LOOKING AT BOTH OF YOU/SIZING YOU TWO UP.

Visa approved more details later but they did not ask me any questions only fiancee so I could not ask about joe or for a tour of the embassy lol

Flying Lover, we both were having our interviews today lol. Had i known we would have had a blast talking to another VJ member while waiting. I can only guess now which couple you guys were. We were the muy bajo couple that went up to window 5 i belive and spoke to the red haired/beareded man who made my wife laugh alot. We also brought a ton of evidence and paperwork and we had that huge blue backpack. After he told me he didnt want to keep me there any more longer than we had to be he told me visa approved and i told my wife and we kissed on the spot with big smiles. Still we probly were not as noticeable as the blonde haired man and his daughter in window 1 lol. Anyway congrads my VJ amigo!!!

Visa also approved! We arrived first in line today but unfortunately this does not mean anything as you still have to be routed up the chain. More details to come in our review of the embassy. But quick things that i remember of note was the CO was very nice and handled us well. He seemed to take a liking to Adriana because he told her a number of funny jokes. Then when he started talking to me he just asked me what I did and if Adry paid me 10,000 bucks for her visa lol. He was very surprised on all the evidence we brought over and liked the magic jack phone logs. He also liked the fact we had a unique photo album done that included snap shot photos from 4 different visits including the wedding and honeymoon to show validity of our relationship. Thanks to WINKFLASH.COM. The only complaint i have is that they process the visas in the order they receive because arriving first and waiting as long as we did was wrong and that the person that helps at the W40 podium know what the heck is going on. Because we almost had to go through a K3 interview until we repeatedly told her that we got the CR1 pushed up for our convenience. They tried to make us pay for the DS 156 but since we eventually got the CR1 interview we only had to pay for the domesa shipping of her visa. Gracias a Dios!!!

James,

Form DS-156 is the visa application for K visas, both K1 and K3. If you choose to go for the K3 visa, your wife will have to go to Banco de Crédito with two filled out DS-156 forms and pay $131. But in all honesty it's a waste of money because you already paid the visa fee of $400 to the NVC for the CR1.

Diana

I agree Diana cool cool. GUYS just about ONE WEEK LEFT before the interview. Next tuesday i will have mi esposita en mis abrazos uno mas vez. Gracias a DIOS. I fly out of Miami at 5ish am and arrive at Bogota at 1030am. Thanks to all that have given me advice and been with us on every step of the way! Thank you Diana, I did in fact receive notice today that they schedule my wifes CR1 interview for December 15th 2009. So i am assuming that the visa package is enroute or already in the embassy. I sent an email to the IV Unit a little earlier while I am on night watch from the military email requesting that they change the K3 to a CR1. They were gracious enough to push back the K3 interview before precisely the way we had it planned out accordingly "everything is going accordingly as I have forseened "insert evil emperor from star wars laugh muauahaha*. So anyways I am hoping i get a response from them tomorrow or the next week stating that they can in fact do this and then I will go to expedia and buy my tickets smile.gif. Hello all glad to see everybodies cases beginning to nudge a little more to the finish line. My wife's case has finally been completed at the NVC and now they are going to schedule for an interview in December more than likely. I already know that November's dates have all been filled up but when I brought this to the attention of the NVC employee that my wife already has an interview and if they can send the package prior to November 19th we could knock out the CR1 Visa interview without any problems. A hole in one manuevere if you ask me! But anything smart and simple for the government is much too complicated in reality. Their supervisor 'Sue" replied and said i need to file an expedite request or get my military commander to sign off saying that i am being deployed somewhere.. Gahh.. Why can't anything be simple with these people. All i want is that the package arrives before November 19th. The embassy is up and ready for this why can't the NVC be? Soooooooooo this is all im waiting on guys. That package. Maybe i can track it but I dont know what they are going to do with it. They said that they will hold on to the package till they schedule an interview during the first two weeks of November.. A big fat NO NO for our situation.. We need all the time we can get. So does anyone know how long it takes for the NVC to send a CR1 package down to the embassy after they go case complete on it?

I live in Orange County, CA. - thanks for asking! Hey, you think we may be on some sorts double top secret probabtion or some ###### like that!!!! Who the hell knows.....

Joe,
Yeah I went to bed shortly after getting off work at 1045am or so just so I can get back up and do it all over again at 9pm yesterday night. I gotta love the night shift! Thats cool. My hometown is Temecula California and I definately miss it, especially Alberto's and their carne asada burritos haha. Well much props to your work, I really like Canon and own a very cool Digital Elph 650 from them thats done me a great amount of justice.

Diana,
Yeah I meant to say the DS230 along with the supporting docs for the IV package. I send this last monday and it was confirmed to arrive on Tuesday. Every day since Wednesday Ive been calling to check up on it but I keep getting the same response; 'keep checking with us the next week.' I found a wonderful thing when I began searching on the USCIS webpage for help for military dependants and their families. They seem to have a hotline available to us to answer the same questions I asked earlier. I guess that part should be easy for me. Anyway the main thing is if they process the IV package before halfway in October that they may schedule an interview for November or not. Either way I still can change the K3 that is on for November 19th to the CR1 like you all been saying right? Thats the biggest issue for me right there is if they will allow that to happen or not. Oh and Diana if your tired of scooping up after your cats get a LitterBox Robot. They are awesome!

Greetings from Bogota, Colombia - the city shrowded in fog/clouds. I´m stationed exactly 2 blocks from the U.S. Embassy, but at the moment, on Carretera 70 waiting for Leidys´ Medical Exam to be completed. The city is a much different environment from the Northern Coast. Sightseeing is an activity reserved for the idle rich rather than a simple VJer like myself.

For Example: A trip into the nearby mountainside to check out a trendy brew pub would cost $45USD per person each way - taking the Transmilleniu Public Transportation. A simple day trip from Barranquilla to Santa Marta del Rodadero by comparision would cost roughly $45 for two persons, meal included. Leidys and I went this morning to have her TB and blood work performed, and I checked out this cool park on the mountainside near Carrera 38. The photography speaks volumes of the local environs, just too bad it is so expensive to travel the countryside.

With all of the Medical exams being completed today, Leidys and I plan to have a VJ reunion with some local Bogotans tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday morning is the Visa Interview, and we´re both anxious and excited for what is to come. WeLoveBogota.com has an excellent apartment that Leidys really loves. She keeps telling me the apartment is so nice, that it makes her feel as if we are already on our honeymoon ¨Luna de Miel¨. Pretty cool advice on the accomodations, VJ - we really love our hotelapartment! good.gif

Hasta muy pronto,

Ken

Saludes amigos,
Ken, Adriana was so sad that Leidys never called her because she wanted to go out on Sunday tongue.gif. I hope you guys get to meet up and share your experiences as well as the medical portion. A very big GL on your interview. I am sure Leidys will get her visa. My case is still pending at the NVC for the CR1. I sent in the IV package monday last week overnight so they should be working on it by now. However, my impatience is like a shimmering crock pot soup waiting to explode lol. I try loggin in every day to see if I will get a login fail or call the NVC for updates but they keep on saying they are working on the packages and will inform us of the result with 4 weeks. Crapola i say! The good news is that the K3 interview was pushed far enough back to sufficiently allow my work to take the time off in advance to help support my wife in her endeavor. Also this allows for the CR1 to have enough time to be finished at the NVC as well. I am a bit curious though how they schedule interviews. The K3 date is set for November 19th but should the CR1 close out and be on the Embassy's proximity before the 15th maybe they will schedule this for an earlier date, no se. I am just curious is all and wouldnt mind it to being earlier but work constraints and all. I am doing it just like you all say and playing it by ear. I hope they are still lenient on interview dates as if they have the CR1 interview for December than I can still change it for our K3 interview date instead.

Woooot regardless that there is some good news to be passed. Adriana's best friend Julie is getting married so she will be going back to Barranquilla for 5 days on thursday. Ill take comfort in the fact that she will be spending time with her loved ones too as well as her friend. For me I will be planning to go to the Marine Core Ball in early November. Gotta get my dress blues in tact! Ok now I am just rambling but hey its almost 2am on a Tuesday morning and I am working the late night shift smile.gif.

Oh yeah.. almost forgot to ask. With my pending reassignment (not a deployment) to Osan, South Korea. How should I go about filing Adriana's paperwork when she arrives here in January but we leave my post in Febuary en route to the other country. I am hoping that we will have no issues regarding our return back to the states in the future, like in 2011, after my time in Korea is done.

take care amigos,
PS- Joe I really am saddened your case has been taking so much time. I pray and continue to hope for the best.. On a separate note, what kind of work do you do that helps occupy your time?
Angie y Shane- I am also saddened how long yours has been taking too. I believe the embassy knows the sense of urgency that is at stake but why they are taking so long is beyond me. I wonder if the interconnected federal branches are involved and when they see a red flag in the system that one agency contacts the other and that one begins a field investigation. The field investigation sends out agents to unravel the facts about the persons being investigated much like the same way a Secret Clearance applicant has to go through when holding a classified level job. Just my thoughts.. but i hope for the best because your case seems so simple in itself.

Thanks and thanks again.

Diana- that Cat Sitting DVD is available on amazon.com. I tried to get the version that auto loops around when I am not available to restart it. Unfortunately my cat is way to picky on what he likes to watch. Sometimes he will watch it and sometimes he doesn't... He is sooo moody.

Hal- yeah it is such a silly document.. And if is filled with useless information or (God forbid) false information because my wife never left Colombia at all then Ill wait till the last moment when the embassy wants it.

My k3 visa docs were recieved successfully at the embassy and now they reported to us to check back Sep 20th or so to see where they place us for the interview. I am praying that they put us in November, I guess Ill have to explain that to them in advance that we are actually trying to tackle to CR1 visa and would rather have that switched around. So we will see very soon.

So now I am waiting for the AoS and the DS3032 to go through the system. As far as my other documents are concerned my I864EZ package is a go and the IV package just needs a cover sheet. So now just waiting on NVC biggrin.gif.

Ahhhhhhhhh ok thanks for the speedy responses you guys.. So here I was just busily preparing some documents and downloading music when my yahoo instant messenger chimed that I had just recieved mail. I checked right away and found it to be the online documents from the NVC concerning the AOS and DS3032. So i sprang into action and paid right on the spot for the AOS bill and sent my wife the DS3032 for her to fill out and scan back to me. I also received from her through the mail her DAS police certificate and the DAS migratoria. However the DAS migratoria is in a sealed enveloped meant for the embassy, (she has two of these because one was meant for the K3 as well). My question (silly i know lol), if the envelope is sealed and meant for the embassy then why does the NVC need it.. Are they allowed to open this up as well? (confused)! Otherwise I am just going to write on my cover letter that the DAS Migratoria that they requested is inside this supicious looking sealed envelope... I hope they do not call in the bomb squad on this one... i wouldnt want to delay anyoneeeeeeeeeeeeee at allllllll. Yikes! Here are some pics of it..

Thanks for the support Joe and co, I really think things will get better for you and the AP will end soon.

Just wondering if the baptismal certificate was needed at the NVC side of the house for CR1 visa? The K3 checklist for the embassy seems to want one but since we are only doing the K3 as like a practice run, should we even need that for the CR1 afterall?

That is great that your guys cases are moving along so well, mine is just begining to set its foot on the racetrack. The embassy now has Adriana's paperwork and is in the process of sending her the packet 3 paperwork, but I'm going to go the recommended route and have Adriana email them the choice of agent and ds230. Or maybe it would look better if I email it on her behalf from my mil. email. The NVC just recieved the I130 package yesterday and now comes the task of calling till twice a day till i can recieve the case number and let them know our emails.

You guys are awesome, Ive learned so much that maybe I can help other airmen in the command file their paperwork in case they have no one to turn to overseas while stationed abroad.
