Tonight i realized how much all of you guys prayers were needed!! I ate dinner and then Leidy's mom called me, so we called Leidy 3 way and started talking to her since they moved hr out of the intensive care unit...so we were talking then Leidy started telling something that i didnt know and that made me start shaking and i had to tell Leidy and her mom to hold oncause i felt my food coming up my chest, she told me that they had to use the machine that gives you an electric shock to try to bring you back when your heart stops!! I couldnt believe what i was hearing!! So basically Leidy was gone for a moment!!! This is why i say that all your prayers are SOOO appreciated!!!! Thank God she is getting better now!!!!!!! I could not imagine having to deal with something happening to her!!!!

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

Bad news you guys, maybe you've seen this already and I'm not sure if it has been verified with the embassy or not. But it looks like as of November 19th, the embassy in Bogotá will deliver the visas to the beneficiaries instead of picking them up 48 hours later.

Scott, since you're the next one up, can please confirm this information for everyone else. It's a real bummer if it's true. huh.gif

In response to what you wrote Diana, yes picking up is no longer an option. The service cost 50 000 COP and takes about eight days (or so they said) to get to whatever city you want to have it sent to.

Well if they use a reliable courier service and if the beneficiary can stipulate where to deliver the visa it might not be too bad.

I also noticed that they said the embassy can be reached via email again. The address is IVBogota@state.gov. I will be very interested to see if they actually respond to emails. I will ask them a question and see what happens.

Yes, but if it has to be delivered to her original address and it is far far far away from Bogota and the two of you plan to leave together from Bogota to the States after the visa is issued...BIG PROBLEM!

Jeff y mabel,
Your NOA2 letter is a very beautiful document and it is good feeling seeing it come in the mail but NVC will receive your case wether you receive your NOA2 document or not.
Looking at your timeline NVC is very close to receiving your case...give it another week of so before being too concerned. (It's taking much longer than it use to for NVC to receive approvals...ours took about 5 1/2 weeks)

I seem to remember someone saying that the hardcopy of the NOA2 is eventually needed for AOS.

How long did it take for you to get your hardcopy Scott?

Amazingly ours came in less than a week but I don't think that is so typical these days...I think we were just lucky.

For some reason she couldn't fax it, as if they had run out of paper at the embassy or something lol. She's going try sending it by fax as well later today, or if not early tomorrow even though she sent through servientrega.

By the way, I just noticed in your timeline that you called the embassy last week to confirm if they had gotten the fax. What number did you dial? The same number of the fax? Or where did you call?

In fact I just called them today again to confim what the Dept.of State already told me was our interveiw date...I'm a little obsessive compulsive... laughing.gif

So am I understanding that these shortcuts may not be used, or just that more documents may be required? Thanks and if you aren't sure, not a problem!

UPDATED GUIDE 11-14-2007

The following guide is intended to help K1 visa applicants going
through Bogotá, Colombia. Also this guide is only that, a guide.
Always check the embassy's website and call the embassy as well.
This guide was written for K1 visa applicants, both beneficiary
and petitioner that have no kids, have never been arrested and have never been
married.

1. Once your I-129F is approved (NOA2), your case will
be forwarded to the National Visa Center. Normally
it will take about 1 to 2 weeks to get from CSC/VSC to NVC.

2. Start calling NVC everyday about 1 week after
your I-129F has been approved at: 603-334-0700
press 1 then 2
. You will need to reach
a live person to get information on your case since
the NVC’s automated system does not handle K1 visas.
Give this person your receipt #, they will let you know
the status of your case, whether it has not yet been
received, already received, or already sent out to
the embassy in Bogotá. Once NVC receives your case, they
will assign a new case # that will begin with BGTXXXXXXXXXX.

A. If it has not been received.
Keep calling until they receive it. Don’t pay attention
to their script. They will tell you it may take 4 weeks
for them to receive your case.

B. If your case has been received.
Ask them when it was received and if it has been forwarded
to the embassy. If your case has been received but not
forwarded, wait 2 to 3 days from the day NVC received it
to call back and ask again. If it has been forwarded, most
often than not cases will be sent out in 2 days after NVC
receives it.

C. Once you know when your case has left NVC to Bogotá. You
can now calculate when it should arrive via DHL at the
embassy. The norm is 3 business days. For example, if your case was
sent on Monday, it should arrive at Bogotá by Thursday, the latest.
(Your case will also arrive electronically from NVC to the embassy)

3. Now that your case is in Bogotá. Do NOT wait for the embassy
to send your fiancée the packet 3. Wait 2 business days to use
the following shortcut. Using the example days in section 2C:
If your case has arrived on Thursday it is best to use the
shortcut on Monday. The reason to wait 2 days is to give the
embassy time to input your information in their system. You can
also call U.S. State Dept. Visa office at: 202-663-1225 press 1 then 0
and they will let you know if the embassy has received your case.

Shortcut - Fax packet 3 to the embassy 011-57-1-(315-4155). This will save
you at least 2 weeks if not more by doing so. I would advise to send the
packet 3 via courier as well (i.e. Servientrega)

Packet 3 Contents:
1. Cover letter
2. Copy of fiancée's passport (biographical data page)
3. DS-230 Part 1 (pages 1 & 2)
4. OF-169 ( page 5 of packet 3 instructions)

The cover letter should be simple and brief. Include the BGT case #
on the cover letter.

4. Two or three days after the embassy has received packet 3, they would have
already scheduled you for the interview. You can wait until your fiancée
receives packet 4 to find out the date of the interview. OR you can
use another shortcut. The shortcut is to call U.S. State Dept. Visa office
and ask them the interview date. Once the embassy schedules your interview,
U.S. State Dept. Visa office is automatically notified of the date.
You may also call the embassy consular section for visas, only available on
Wednesdays between 2:00-4:00pm at: 011-57-1-(315-1566) for the interview date.

Packet 4 Contents:
1. Passport
2. Baptism Certificate (Fe de bautismo con notas marginales. Fotocopia autenticada)
3. Birth Certificate (Registro Civil)
4. Police Certificate (Certificado Judicial del DAS)
5. Migratory Certificate (Carta del DAS, entradas/salidas)
6. I-134 Affidavit of Support and evidence.
7. DS-156 (2 copies)
8. DS-156K (1 copy)
9. Laboratory/Medical exams/Vaccinations
10. Evidence of your relationship (photos, e-mails, boarding passes, etc.)
11. Six passport style photos, 5cm x 5cm.

Embassy:
Finally the big day is here. You will want to be at the embassy no later than 6 a.m.
I suggest 5:45 a.m. At 6 a.m. there will already be a small line. At 6:30 a.m. you will
not be able to see the front of the line. There will be 3 lines at the front gate of the embassy.
You will want to get into line 3. Do not follow everyone that gets into line 1.
K1, K3, CR1/IR1 visa petitioners need to get into line 3. This may get you in and out of
the embassy quicker.

Tips:
If your fiancée lives outside of Bogotá, have her start getting the Police
and Migratory certificates ASAP. As it may take several weeks to receive
the certificates for people living outside of the capital. If your fiancée
lives in Bogotá, she can get the certificates in a few days.
Try to schedule the laboratory and medical exam 2 days before the interview.
This will allow an extra day just in case any mishaps should occur.
You will need an English translation of the birth certificate, get it done in
Colombia. It will be a lot cheaper and faster.

Based on what I am seeing this phase moves much quicker than the USCIS portion, providing of course that we have our ducks in a row and utilize the short cuts!

Steve,
I hope that everything goes at light speed for you but our inteview date even using the shortest of shortcuts took almost 12 weeks from our approval date NOA2. I understand the pain and I wish you and everyone very speedy processes!!!

On the address change you will have to wait until your case is received by the embassy and then include the change of address when you fax them the packet 3 shortcut...I had to do the same thing and it wasn't a problem. (The embassy seems to be well organized)

Page 111 on this thread will help you see the steps you need to take to simplify this whole process and pull things together efficiently...Lucho and Diana organized these steps and they are very very very helpful!!!

So I am planning to go ahead and fax the papers and see what happens. !!!

What is transmitted electronically? The petition package from NVC to the embassy? That would be a new development in the process. Please clarify.

Thanks.

Bill,
Yes...the case is sent electronically as well as physically from NVC to the embassy.

MV-JR,
It does'nt matter if the embassy has "physically" received your case but it is important that it is in their system and the State Dept. can absolutely tell you the embassy has input your case in their system.

Hello, Matt y Fernanda!

I had the exact same question you are posting right now: can I get the vaccines ahead of time? I called directly the doctor's office in Bogota, and they clearly told me vaccines needed to be taken 10 days before the interview at most. Otherwise your spouse may have to get the shots again.

So, my advice would be for you to wait until you get your appointment date and then get the vaccines 10 days before the big day.

Juan Carlos.

I agree with Juan Carlos...also I would suggest using their doctors for the vaccines to avoid any issues or unnessesary stress at this point in the process...it might cost a few pesos more than it would if you were to find your own doctor for the same, but at this point that should be the least of your concerns. It's almost over, low stress is priceless at this point!!! wacko.gif

My advice would be to fax packet 3 shortcut on Wednesday morning and call to confirm (consular section – visa) on Wednesday afternoon between 2:00-4:00 Phone: 011-57-1-(315-1566)

Worst case is they have not received your case yet and you may have to re-fax...Best case is they have received your case and will schedule your interview ASAP!!! Either way it won't hurt to fax.

Also another way to find out if your case was received is to call Dept. of State at 202-663-1225 press 1 then 0...they know immediately when the case is input into the embassy's system

Lucho,
Things may have changed since you went through the process but once NVC has sent the case to the embassy they have no way to tell when the interview is scheduled...they gave me the number to the Dept. of State as did Chester a couple of posts ago...the number is 202-663-1225 then press 1 then 0 (to save from listening to 10 minutes of prompts) unsure.gif

Also some more info that may help some people in the future...the embassy told me that if my novia does not receive the interview letter in the mail (we all know that the Colombian mail system is not that reliable) the letter will also be sent to me and it is the same letter and can be used as well.

Good luck Scott... and here's to a an early December interview. I'm kind of jealous we didn't get it a December interview because that would've been a great time to be in Colombia.

Diana

Congrats Scott..................Diana I am not one bit jealous. LOL>LOL. I would love to be in Colombia though, anytime, well except for the other day when they had the freak storm.
Scott, good luck to you. You are right there, the waiting is VERY close to being over. Don't get to confident in the US Embassy in Colombia. They can be great and they can be horrible. After talking to you the other day, I am convinced that you are well prepared and will not have a problem. Good luck to you!!!

Thanks Buck, Diana, Lucho, Byron, Charles.........The list goes on and on and on....

I think we are prepped pretty well so we will keep our fingers crossed and pray to God for a good outcome unsure.gif

Hi everyone, I'm kind of new with all these, and very happy I found this web site, from now on I'm hoping there will be more $$$ on my saving account, I had been paying a lawyer up to this day, never again, that's for sure. I was scared to screw up, but all you have to do is read the forms carefully.

I have a question, Does anyone have the fax for NVC? good.gif thanks

FYI...I threw away 400 bones on an "ATTORNEY" and got absolutely ZILCH...fortunately for me it was only "400"

If you're a member on this website and reading a few posts as well as asking questions, a lawyer in my opinion is throwing hard earned cash right down the drain. With the expences involved with this process and with todays economy in my opinion a lawyer is not the way to go. They are just way way way too much money for not much work...which you will end up doing anyway!!!

Best of luck

Hello Colombia Club !!!!
helpsmilie.gif

We are one of the few K-3 here fromwhat i can see. e received the NVC case letter sending to BGT on 10.23/07 and immediately faxed all the packet 3
forms as described in the shortcuts here in the threads by Mike. DO we still need to send originals by courier, my wife seems to think faxing them is sufficient and to bring originals to interview.
blush.gif

If I (The petioner) have already given all my originals of birth certiifcate and divorce, do i need to bring more originals to my wife at her interview ??

we called the embassy and they verified they recieved the packet 3 faxes, but she forgot to ask the above and we can only call the embassy on weds.

anyone with advice or help will be greatly appreciated

THANKS good.gif
BRIAN & YENYS innocent.gif

Brian and Yenys,

If they embassy confirmed the receipt of packet 3 there is no need to mail it...they will schedule your apointment with that.

As for the originals for birth and divorce, they have them in the original petition but if you have more bring them. (it can't hurt to have a stack of papers a mile high!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) laughing.gif

I called the State Dept Visa section on Friday to see if the embassy in Bogota had us in the system yet but the woman said not yet and to check back Monday...We are planning on faxing then.

Hope to see you in Bogota... kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hello to everybody in this Great web, my husband and I, we recieve last week our BGT Number and also lastweek they told us that they sent our case at the Colombian Embassy, I heard to many people that they are in the K1 in others fourums that they sent the respective form (DS 230 part I and OF 169) wich is the same for K3 except for the form OF 169, before they recieve the package 3... I found in the Colombian Embassy website the package 3 for K3... We just recieve the BGT number last week and they sent it on Wednesday to Bogota... my Question is ... May I send the form DS 230 Part I and the OF 169 next week... Is the way to win time for to gett the enterview sooner .... but it's not too earlier to send it? There is someobody that can share a similiar experience with us??? whistling.gif any advice is very very welcome! helpsmilie.gif ... ....... Thanks to all, and God Bless to everybody that is here!!!

Wow...a lot of things have happened for everyone since I have last visited...I had a great trip last week to see Yenifer and to be honest I have just been a little burned out from this ridiculously SLOW process...but we have all of our documents ready and we haven't lost faith nor will we ever lose faith.

Over 5 weeks now since my approval and it has not been received by NVC...they are no help either telling me I have to wait 90 days until anything more can be done with on mt inquiry.

Anyway I want to say CONGRAULATIONS to you Buck on your recent marriage to your love!!!! good.gif

Good luck Mike on your upcoming interview. yes.gif

Things are getting very close for you Byron keep us posted. kicking.gif

God Bless

Hey gang,

I have a question that will need to be answered when our packet 4 is on its way...I know that there is a reliability issue with Colombian mail so does packet 4 usually make it to the states and will that be good enough in case packet 4 doesn't make it to Yenifer in Colombia? Does the invitation letter from the embassy come in each packet 4 so that if we receive at least 1 of them we will be all right?
