Please forgive me and my A.D.D. tongue_ss.gif as I tried to find these answers and couldn't:

1. The Montreal U.S. Consulate takes its time to give you the interview date, and then the date is soon after you receive the letter?

2. This letter is a.k.a. "packet 4"?

3. I see 2 couples have been waiting just over 50 days to get their interview scheduled. How common is it for Montreal U.S. Consulate to not mail the letter and people have only found out by calling or emailing?

I see that they have been taking less time than they did for all the approved-in-the-Spring couples....still way longer than Vancouver...grrrrrr.

Thanks for any help.

1.Yes MTL can take their time giving you a date for the interview, but not always do they give you next to no notice for the interview.
2. Yep. Interview letter is in Pkt 4.
3. There have been a few cases where no one got a letter. They called/emailed and found out that they did indeed have an interview scheduled. Now, you can't even email them. They have some stupid automatic thingy that emails you back.

Hope this helps you with your questions.

Thank you Liz for adding us to your list.
It feels good to be there, although awaiting our lawyer's approval and a few questions I had to send the package I completed on SUNDAY!!!!
Fergoddddssssakes, what IS she doing with it?

Ahem, please excuse my impatience.
Hahaha.

And please forgive my next question:
Why do they make couples wait to get an interview date?
How long have people waited to get a date?
I see two couples there around 50 days or so...

How logical is it to make people wait to get a date?
Give the date and we can plan our time until then, damn them!!!
I have places to go, people to see!! smile.gif

Okay.
I'm okay now...the outbursts are great therapy.

A lot of us had to wait a long time for our interviews. I started this whole process back in October 2006. When I was at my interview, the woman giving me the interview had told me my case had expired on October 17th 2007!!(interview was Oct 24th 07) but that they had extended it to the 24th because it had already been over a year. I'm just glad that part is over and I'm also happy that MTL is moving along with everyone else faster now.

I feel the same way Carla. I talk to my fiancee every night on the phone, but as you said, it just doesn't cut it no more. We'll be on the phone for like 3 hours each night, but we might only talk for 30-45 minutes. Its been this way for a few months. It just seems to get worse as the time goes by. I try and stay positive. The worst is when I'm home all day by myself while my son is at kindergarten. Theres only so much I can do at home before I start to go crazy with boredom. I want to start packing, but I think its still too early. I've already done and purged all my stuff. Been doing that for months lol. I know things will get better as soon as I can move. I think I need to find a hobby of some sorts to pass the time lol.

I don't know about you Liz, but for me, it's like I find things to argue about and every little thing ticks me off. Its frustrating and I know its just me, but its hard knowing theres nothing you can do but wait. The days seem like they get longer, then as the days get closer to what you want, you run around like a chicken with its head cut off cause you think you've forgot something to do or get. Stressing over something thats not even there to worry about. My fiancee says I have OCD and I tend to do check things over and over again until I've done stressed myself out to the point of exhaustion. Ok, before I turn this into a book, I'll finish it up lol. Just remember your family here on VJ will always be here to help you through the good and the bad.

MTL is now sending a long a$$ email reply back. At least its something to read, rather than the same "4-6 month wait, etc". It does seem like MTL is picking up with interviews and things are moving smoothly. It was not even 4 months ago when it took forever just to hear something and not many were getting interviews, so I'm hopeful that most can get their interviews over and done with before the Christmas holidays.

CanadaHint of advice before you move about TB testing
Well I just got back from taking my 4 year old son for his return visit from seeing the civil surgeon. I had to get him a TB skin test done in order to get his AOS case finished. As of April 1st, 2008 all children from age 2 and up are required to have the TB test done. Would have been nice to know this earlier. Anyways, we ended up paying $250 for the test. I couldn't believe how much it was for something so simple. I'm not sure if thats the going rate here, but if you can get the test done for your children before you move to the USA from Canada and they haven't had the test done yet, I highly reccomend you doing so. If I could of had the test done back in Canada, my doctor wouldn't have charged me anything. I just wanted to give a heads up to those with small kids.

CanadaAOS Case Transferred? What does it really mean?
My AOS was transfered to California in March and was approved with no interview in May with no RFE's. My son on the other hand had an RFE, so I sent back what they wanted and now I'm waiting on his approval. Mind you, some wait longer, or not that long at all after they've been transfered. Just keep checking your emails if you signed up for that.

What I don't understand about Medicaid is, I'm here legally. I've obviously been approved for an EAD and AP, which I have both and I'm just waiting for the next step. I'm so frustrated with everything. Especially when there are people in this country illegally, they get everything they need, yet people like me have to fight to get nowhere.

Why don't you qualify for Medicaid? I don't know exactly what they told you, but I know there are a LOT of hoops you have to jump through to qualify and one of them is an extremely low income. For three people I believe your husband would have to make less than about $17,600 a year for you to qualify. That's the poverty line...also, there would be a lot of other things you had to do to qualify because of the affidavit of support (that's my understanding at least, I could be wrong) that your husband signed before you moved here. I have known several single women with two or three kids who made "too much money" to qualify for Medicaid. They were literally told "quit one of your jobs and we can help you." blink.gif Poo on the US healthcare system. That suddenly reminded me. Have you looked into CHIPs? It's easier to qualify for that and it would cover your son and possibly your baby, it's for children only, so I'm not sure if they would cover you while you're pregnant. However, it's inexpensive and would at least cover your son and it would cover your baby after it's born if you qualify for it. Good luck...I hope it all works out for you!

I had called the Family and Childrens Services in my county to see what documents I would have to bring in order to qualify. I told them I came here on a K-1 Visa, we're married, I have an EAD and AP and just waiting on my SSN. I didn't mention anything about what my husband makes and she told me because I'm not a perminate resident yet and have no green card, that I don't qualify. I swear, companies and government agencies hire people who don't know what they're talking about. I haven't looked into CHIP's. I didn't even know they had that in my state and I'm in Georgia. I know they have WIC, but I doubt I'll be able to get on that. I'll look into CHIP's though, thank you.

CanadaReally In A Bind Here
Thanks everyone who answered. See, I didn't know that I needed to be added to my husbands insurance within the 60-90 days of getting married. If I have known that, I would have done it. From what I got from the secretary, my A# would only be good if we added me on paper. If we do the application online, I only need my SSN. She said doing it on paper requires more information the insurance company wants, or something along those lines.

I have my InfoPass appointment for this Monday at 12:15pm. I'm worried that they are just going to say the same thing, that I have to wait. What the hell is the point of giving out the EAD cards when they are still "pending"? I just don't get it. I'm trying not to stress out, but I can't help myself. I checked out the website for the local hospital for my county and they do have a financial assistance program. So as soon as I find out what happens Monday, I might have to go that route. I've already looked into seperate insurance for myself, but we can't afford that right now. If I can't get the assistance with the hospital, I'm going to go to the county health department and see if they can help me. Somewhere someone has to be able to help. I just hope it is sooner than later.

Thank you again everyone for your help. I'll be looking into every resource I can.

CanadaReally In A Bind Here
Where do I begin....

I finally got my EAD cards the other week and this morning I went into the SSA office to finally go get mine and my son's SS cards. They told me I couldnt get it AGAIN. They said my A# was still pending with DHS. #######??? The lady told me it could take anywhere from a month to 2 months before it is "active". So, with that being my 3rd visit to the SSA office for this, I came home and called DHS about this so called "pending" with our EAD cards. The woman said it is still pending and that I need to make an InfoPass appointment.

Everything is all messed up here. Why do they bother sending the EAD cards if they are still pending? I also found out today that I don't qualify for Medicaid and in order to get on my husbands insurance, it needs to be done by the 30th of this month. I'm so frustrated with everything, especially because I need some kind of insurance because I'm pregnant. I don't know how far along I'am. Maybe 6 weeks, maybe 3 months and I need to see a doctor soon. There is no way that my husband can afford to pay for the doctor visits out of pocket, plus pay close to $30K to have a baby.

The problem with the insurance company is, we got married in Novemeber and we had 90 days to add me and my son to his insurance. Well we didn't know that, so the secretary at his job said she'd add us as being married this March then I could be added to his insurance as of April 1st, but this all needs to be done before the end of the month, or we'll have to wait until October and by then I'll have already had the baby.

So now I'm worried once I go to this InfoPass appointment, they'll say the same thing, that I have to wait. I don't know what to do or where to go. We cannot afford a seperate insurance. What I don't get is how the illegals here can get help with everything, yet someone like me has to fight and wait for things I need.

If anyone has any idea on what I should do, please let me know.

I don't think I'll be able to attend it this year. With money being pretty tight and my son's 5th birthday on the 29th, we won't have the time. Hopefully next year, or if there will be some kind of VJ get together sometime in the future, I'll be more than happy to go.

CanadaWhen flying
I'm not sure about your fiance driving across with your stuff, but when flying make sure anything that takes batteries, doesn't have batteries in it. I've seen people traveling with kids and when one of their toys went off going through security, they made them take everything out. It dont happen to many people, just depends on the officer. When I moved down here by plane with my 4 year old son, I had 1 suitcase just for his toys. It was a small suitcase, so I used it as a carry-on. Gave him something to do while we waited at the gate to board.

CanadaMoving Tomorrow
I flew through Pearson to GA back in November 2007 and I brought my x-ray with me. I just kept it in my carry-on bag. As far as customs goes. It was effortless and painless. I went through with my 4 year old son and we were in and out within 10 minutes. The time when I went was back when the Air Canada computers had crashed and everything was messed up for hours. My flight was to leave before lunch but I didnt get out of there until after 8pm. Thats a whole other story lol. Anyways, just remember to be there early, be honest with the customs officers and remember to breathe! As Kathryn said, where in GA you moving too? Have a safe trip!!

Anyway, I was watching a program and this ad for desperate housewives came up - so I took this screen shot, is it just me or does it look like these legs are mismatched??

Hey y'all,

I didnt want to start another thread, so I figured I'd just post my good news in here.

Well, today I set a date for mine and Brian's wedding. I called the probate court this morning to get more info on the marriage license, then was told if I wanted a ceremony to make an appointment with the magistrate judge's office, so I did. The big day is for Tuesday Novemeber 20th!!

The woman on the phone was telling me about the prices for the license and if we were to go to marriage counceling, that it would only be $16, without the counceling, it's $51. The ceremony is $25 on weekdays and $300 on Saturday. So I saved a bunch taking the Tuesday appointment. It's $5 for each copy of the license, so I'm getting 2. So my grand total is $86!! and I don't even need a SSN. Just a drivers license, which I don't have, but the woman said my Visa will be good enough. We figured we'd have everyone come over to the house afterwards for a small get together, but with it being so close to Thanksgiving, we're going to wait until the weekend after. Most of our friends will have a hard time getting to his house on a Tuesday night with it being a work night and all, so we can wait to see everyone. I don't know what we're doing about a honeymoon. Maybe he'll surprise me lol.

Well thats it. Just had to spread the good news to the world lol. wink.gif

I am busy downloading music and loading up my Zune. Anyone got any good new music I should check out? I like lots of different stuff from classical to alternative. I tend to stay away from country and jazz and stuff that will put me to sleep (you know, that background type of music). Fire away your suggestions!

I don't know if you like dance/club music or not. Or any jungle music.(stuff played in raves lol)
I got a few favs:
Aphrodite(all time fav of his is the Superman Theme song)
DJ Tiesto
DJ Hype

Gawd I forgot the rest lol. I have them on my desktop and I'm on my laptop. If you like these, I got more. My fiance probably has the biggest collection of music. Everything from 80's , country, tv theme songs to remixes of everything.
