I would definitely renew the GC and NOT try for citizenship. Get his mess sorted, pay the back taxes and penalties, get the criminal stuff sorted -

CanadaDESPERATE! I need to make soup!
One simple soup that seems really really fancy -

Buy prepared tomato soup, and heat according to the directions - when warm, add about 1/2 cup crumbled gorgonzola cheese to the hot soup, and stir till blended - serve immediately.

CanadaDESPERATE! I need to make soup!
What about a chicken soup?

Mix chopped onion, carrot, celery, and pepper in a bit of oil - add chicken stock, I then add boneless chicken breasts (if in a hurry), cook till chicken is done - pull chicken out, chop up - add back into the pot, then I add some more veggies - parsnips, carrots, even sweet potatoes, some fresh basil, salt and pepper - slow cook it down -

That with some nice warm rolls would be an easy lunch

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCouple Questions- help!
Hi all,

I am another one of those "beat the fee increase" filers.
I mailed my packet to VSC on 7/28, received 7/31.
As far as I can TELL, I used the correct version of the form and did it all correct.... HOWEVER....

My husband's card expires on 8/24.

WHAT IF.....
1. NOA1 doesn't reach us before then? Are we technically out of status?
2. I did do something wrong (used wrong form, etc.) and the whole packet and check is sent back to us as it seems has happened a lot lately? By the time it gets here, judging from current timeframes, it will be AFTER my husband's card has expired and OUTSIDE of the 90 days we are allowed to file???? Are we completely out of luck or what? Does USCIS at least make a note of when the original is submitted or do we have to apply for special consideration to re-open??????

Here I was thinking that this would be the stress free part of the process.... Now, after reading this forum, I think I'll be having a nail-biter month until I see my check cashed!

Thanks!
Mel

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 Vermont delays for NOA???
So according to that release and servicing date grid, I-751 for VSC should have received NOA's if they were received prior to July 27, 2007, which would mean the OP should, in fact, be worried and resubmit, as they told him since he's been waiting since JUNE....

Congrats.

VSC received our I-751 on 8/3/07. We sent the new fee of $545 because we weren't able to file before the fee increase took effect. Our check hasn't cleared yet, so hoping it gets cashed soon.

Yeah, we still have a long haul in front of us, I am guessing another month AT LEAST before the NOA1 arrives.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWe're cashed - VSC
Hi, just wanted to update everyone who is trying to get a handle on the VSC timeframes.
Our I-751 was received on 7/31 and the check was cashed 8/15 per the notes on the check, and cleared our bank yesterday, the 17th. There is an EAC number on the check, but like everyone else, it does not register on the USCIS site.

If it helps, I did write "Form I-751" on the outside of the priority mail envelope. Don't know if this speeds things up or not.

I'll keep you all posted on NOA 1 and biometrics info!!

I would give it a bit more time.... there was a press release on USCIS that shows the backlog of new applications at each service center.... it has slowed everything down due to people trying to beat the fee increase....

Hi, Mine was received by VSC on 7/31 (with old fees) and the check was cashed on the 15th. I did write "Form I-751" in bold on the outside of the envelope, not sure if that made a difference or not...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNOA 1 Received VSC
They do... but I'm beginning to wonder if the NOA dates are in any way related to the local office that will be doing biometrics, etc. My local branch is Hartford, CT, which is likey not as busy as Boston, New York, etc. I know people assigned to those local offices still seem to be waiting for NOA's for a lot longer than I had to..... Just a guess....

Hi, just wanted to drop in to say my NOA1 was received today for the packet I sent on 7/28. Check cashed 8/15. So it looks like VSC really has picked up and is moving right along. Will post again when we get the biometrics appointment!!!

I just today got my email adising card production ordered!! I was a bit worried because our packet was a bit thin. One thing I included that I think was a really good idea was a copy of both mine and my husband's credit reports from annualcreditreport.com. It gives all known addresses, and also showed where he was an authorized user on some of my cards, and the accounts noted were shown on our joint bank account.

I sent my original forms in the week of the fee change, in the end of July, and had our biometrics in Hartford, CT, in early September. So all told, it was about 6 1/2 months in total.

So to you VSC'rs, don't lose too much hope about the TSC transfers - maybe it's a different "team" who handles the transfers or something!!

Congrats, but the old TSC cases (those with February to June 2007 NOA1s) actually did not arrive at VSC until yestereday -- so it remains to be seen how much/if those older cases will push VSC approvals back.

Wow, you're good! I guess the good news for everyone is that VSC appears to be way ahead of the posted processing dates....

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhow to file k1 electronic
I do not believe K1 is one of the forms allowed in the electronic applications as of yet, though I have heard about NVC is now scanning and electronically sending paperwork to Guangzhou to bypass the 2-4 month customs slow down. If this continues it should cut down the average 1 year time it takes to K1 for Chinese spouse to around 8 months.

Candleforlove has a few members that have seen NOA2 to interview date in as fast as 4 weeks, due to the electronic document transfers.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview and polic report
You will not be allowed to attend interview in China, most spouses pass the time in a coffee shop that is on the 4th floor. Interview happens on the 5th floor.

Positive points of being there:
1. Moral Support
2. SO can take your passport to show you are present in the Consulate
3. Debateable, you can attend ACH which "may" help your case
4. Priceless moment when SO walks into coffee shop and that agonizing moment before they tell you if they passed.

A common question at the consulate is: Is your spouse here with you? Being able to respond yes and show interview officer your passport I think carries a huge amount influence.

Is it required you are there? Nope thousands pass every year and the USC is not present.

Last point and question for you to ask yourself. How will you feel if you are not there and SO does not pass, SO will be emotionally floored and will be alone and in most cases a strange city.
Being there for a approval is great, being there for SO if they get denied is even more important.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterivew questions
QUOTE (Lina y Mario @ Oct 28 2009, 08:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The CO can (and most probably will) ask anything he wants. We were asked 3 questions during our interview, and they were all for me. First one, my name. Second, my maiden last name. Third, are we cousins. That was all. 30 seconds. Done. The CO then said, "Okay, please tell your fiancee that his visa has been issued."

Consulates vary greatly, In the Guangzhou China Consulate the USC is not allowed to be at interview, which makes it one of the tougher Consulates. Many USC that go to support their SO will give them their passport to show the VO that they are there in China with them, usually sitting at the coffee shop on 4th floor.

wow, some days I just am in state of shock at this process. Your time line shows you sending in your P3 41 days after NOA1.

P3, you send back:
DS-230 Part 1 only which is 2 pages
OF-169 The checklist
EMS Mailing label from China Post (this is so they can send you P4)

If you call DOS, the moment you find out that GUZ mailed P3 to you, you can go ahead and send in these forms. You do not need to wait for the P3 to actually arrive. This can help cut off some time.

US Citizenship General DiscussionChild Support Letter Template
My husband has recently went for his citizenship interview. During his interview, they asked for evidence of child support (child lives in another country) - we were not prepared with this. Although he does make regular payment he doesn't keep good records (he western unions all payments and has thrown out the reciepts). The mother of the child agreed to write a letter, but we think rather than having her write something up - it would be easier if we wrote it for her on her behalf and she signed it, etc. Does anyone have any templates of any such letter?
Thanks

When filing the I-751 form I understand I will have to pay total of $545.00 for the application and biometric fees.

My question is for my step-son, do I have to pay $545.00 for the application and biometric fees or just the biometric fee?

Thanks ifor the help.

if you are including the step-son on the application you just need to include an extra $80 for the biometrics fee for him...

but if you have to fill out a separate application for him (if his card doesn't expire within the 90 day window of your spouses card) then he would need to submit the $465 (plus $80 biometric service fee)

QUOTE

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionChild to accompany versus child to follow
Update 2.0:

K1 and K2 visas were both issued in the absence of a parental consent document.

The next part of the story is rather odd. The U.S. embassy literature "strongly" suggests that permission for permanent residence abroad be obtained from the Kazakh migration authorities and the famous parental consent document is required for that. However... the embassy information goes on to state that it is not a requirement for U.S. permanent residency.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionChild to accompany versus child to follow
Update:

The interview went well but there will be a delay in visa issuance until we obtain another (police) document from the country (Turkmenistan) of my fiancee's birth. The consular officer did not ask for an affidavit of parental consent from the left-behind parent and stated that the visas would be issued upon delivery of the police document.

The issue at hand is whether said affidavit will be required at any later stage of the immigration process.

The embassy interview is in two days.

I am the point where, at least, I know the right question to post: if we choose the "child to accompany" option but the child actually follows within two months, would we be created a future problem for ourselves?
