Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies a home and a farrin, Part 24!

I thought I was the only one to fall asleep and wake up in the wee hours searching for food :star:

LMAO - nope, it's the norm with us - Usually cause we have gone back and laid down to nap or :whistle: before dinner - next thing you know it's 3 am

It just now hit me that he's coming today and I'm so nervous. Like a little child waiting to see their daddy. I said to him this morning what's the first thing he's going to do when he sees me, he goes "give you your catch (chocolate) so you can get off my back!" lol

Aw, so happy for you!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies a home and a farrin, Part 24!

Ok so now we must had Secrets Jamaica USa to our travel list. I'm sure some yardies live close by so it could double as a link up.

I say do the AI. I love that I can eat and DRINK as much as I want and don't have to pay anything. It's a nice place for sure so I say if they have good rates do it up, just be sure to pack walking shoes. I never made it to their beach so I have no idea about that part of it.

Seacrets is a blast - Here is a daytime video:

Y5_eyqABBow

And here are my friends on the beach side at night:
M0LVE1dO9Vc

I love the convenience of the AI too - I never used to, but lately, especially with how busy my life is here, I really like the ability to not think and have food, alcohol, etc... readily available - DJ and I are really bad most trips, and will end up falling asleep / not thinking about food then it's 3 am and the only thing we can find is Burger King or cow foot soup on the road :whistle: I lose weight every trip, lol -

I have seen several really good rates for different AIs - Still have plenty of time, I am just thinking about it now - It's a long trip, so I am thinking that half of it at an AI would be a nice way to unwind after my semester ends.

Morning all!

Dillon my mother always told me "stay outta man an ooman bizniz ca wen 2 head lick pilla, everybody a p*ssy 'ol" In other words don't go saying anything about someone's man or woman because when they both lay down in bed after doing the dirty, everyone is suddenly a snitch.

Just checked dhl's website, visa ready for pick up!!!!
I'm trying HARD not to buy the ticket RIGHT NOW, I won't :no:

Congrats KJ so happy for you - I am sure your finger will be on the trigger all day today, waiting to press buy, lol -

I agree with Dillon on the man thing, although I would wait till yours was here - if I know something, I believe in saying it to the person once - what you do with it beyond that is your business.

Hey Sus!
Are they having that festival downtown Bridgeport this year? Hubby really enjoyed it last year especially being among so many Jamaicans in one spot. Not many in our area.

Yep, Saturday, August 21st, same spot!

Have you checked into Hartford at all? He would be in his glory at the West Indian Club -

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaican Food!!

Jerk baby back ribs on the grill or oven.

For 4 servings

- 1 kg (2 lb.) Pork back ribs

For the jerk seasoning

* 1 onion, finely chopped
* cup finely chopped scallion
* 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 2 teaspoons sugar
* 1 teaspoon ground Jamaican pimento (allspice)
* teaspoon ground nutmeg
* teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1 hot pepper, finely ground
* 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 3 tablespoons soy sauce
* 1 tablespoon cooking oil
* 1 tablespoon cider or white vinegar

Method:

Mix together all the ingredients. A food processor fitted with a steel blade is ideal for chopping and combining.

The flavor of the jerk marinade may strike you as a little harsh when you first mix it, but I assure you, the flavors will all blend and mellow as the meat cooks. To increase the heat of this rather mild marinade, add hot pepper sauce. If you want less heat, remove the seeds and membranes containing the seeds from the peppers before grinding them.
Rub the jerk sauce that you just created over the ribs and let it sit for a couple hrs if you can. It will enhance the flavors of the meat as it gets time to really penetrate the meat.

Grill ribs over indirect heat in covered grill, turning occasionally, until ribs are very tender, about 1 1/2 hours (or roast ribs on rack in shallow pan in 180°C. (350° F.) for 1 1/2 hours).

Cut into 1- or 2-rib portions to serve.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWEST KINGSTON JAMAICA BLOOD SHED!!!!!!

Hey Malbarb,

I doubt it will have any effect everything going to go good on your day.

Hey lifejourney, which part is not true. fill me in

There is not bloodshed occuring - I get Lifejourney's point, the heading of your topic seems like there is major chaos going on - Yes, there is the potential, but everyone is praying that it will not amount to that. People are starting widespread panic by making false statements or spreading rumors - Classic example - businesses in Kingston were boarding up windows yesterday as a precaution - Some fool was running down the street screaming that a hurricane was coming. (he obviously missed the correct news).

MLBarb, I wouldn't worry about this affecting the visa - However, if your interview is soon, I would be sure to stay in the safer areas, be aware of your surroundings, and alert to potential issues - steer clear of protests if you encounter them.

Just wanted to share a quick update with everyone. Just got the below from the Embassy. I am trying to see if there is a way to pick it up in Kingston tomorrow. Otherwise, I think DHL will get it tomorrow but then it won't be Monday or Tuesday before they get it to MoBay since Friday is their last day of work for the week in the MoBay office. I will let you guys know what I find out about that being an option. Anyone else have updates?

Girl, during the holidays some places raise it from $18 to $24 a can. I've seen it lately for $10 on sale. Can't do can ackee. Back in the day can ackee was not allowed in the states because people were getting sick. I went to Canada for Caribana and I had 8 cans with me they took them all at the border. I didn't know they were banned.

Our market has it for $7.99 a can

Definitely saltfish - all types - Unfortunately, not ackee - You can't get fresh ackee in the US, only the canned - however the international market is cheaper for it than other spots.

rathid...boiled bannnans too I'm just going to wait...wait Posted Image mi caan believe Posted Image -- my husband will only eat the chicken breast. He don't do beef or pork or shellfish. The first time he had can callaloo at a friend's house he didn't even want it on his plate said it was digusting. So I grow as much as I can in the summer and freeze it.

I am not a fan of boiled bananas - They are okay if you are eating liver or something saucy, but not my favorite thing. Love callalloo

No, our apples don't look anything like the yankee apples well, the colour is the same, but they shape like a pear. My dad has avacados in his yard that are the size of papayas

You should have seen Yankee's twins with the apples when we were in JA - they ALWAYS had one in their hand! So cute!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBienestar Familiar or go with a lawyer
She will have to start a process asking for full custody since the father is not gonna sing any document for reason you mention. this will be easy but she has to follow the laws and procedures. I will suggest you to hire a layer.
Good Luck.

She was never married but the guy was never in his son's life. I talked to her and a lawyer told her that he thinks the case will not be compilicated because the father has never been there.

He will not sign any document because he is on the run from the police. He commited a crime against a minor.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBienestar Familiar or go with a lawyer
Getting full custody for your fiance's son could be a long process or not. If her exhusband or her son's father is agree, they only have to go to Bienestar Familiar and give to her the custody. Is her son living with her?? he will also have to sign an authorization for the kid to get out of the country, in other case she will have to start a legal process in Colombia, proving that her kid is going to have a better life in the states.

Hi,

I need for my fiance to get papers showing full custody for her son. She told me about bienestar familiar. I heard it can take up 6 months or longer to get the custody papers. Is there attorneys in Colombia that can do it much faster?

She talked to 1 attorney he said he can get it done in 10 months

Another attorney says 6 months. But that's the same amount of time it takes without using a lawyer.

cristina1977FemaleColombia2010-02-20 11:02:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAnybody know about having to register a divorce in Colombia?

Here is the situation, two natural born Colombians get married in Colombia, but shortly after move to Venezuela to get jobs, this was in 1980. Marriage does not work out, the husband returns to Colombia in 1997. The wife applies for a divorce and her attorney recommends since the assets of this marriage are in Venezuela and their marriage was already registered in Venezuela, the divorce is handled in the courts of Venezuela.

Power of attorneys had to be hired to represent the husband living in Colombia, the divorce is finalized. As the wife is also a natural born citizen of Colombia with her family living there, she likes to return to Colombia, the wife is currently a citizen of the USA. The USA and the USCIS does recognized the Venezuela divorce, the wife marries a USC. Venezuela recognizes the divorce and the marriage in the USA, and the marriage is registered in Venezuela.

But what about Colombia? The attorney that handled the divorce in Venezuela, left Venezuela, so contact with her is impossible. Impossible to find anything on the web on this subject about Colombian law. But been told different stories, one is that Colombia does recognize the divorce, but it was to be registered in Colombia, we don't know if this was done or not as the former husband was living in Colombia at the time. Another story I got, is that Colombia does not recognize the divorce, and the wife as far as Colombia is concerned, is a bigamist. These are from attorneys in Colombia that represent themselves as attorneys on the internet that one doesn't know from Adam, could be crooks, but both are asking for US bucks.

Anybody here go through this? Basically, you got married in Colombia, but got a divorce in another country. What steps have to be taken to correct this, if there is even a problem? How does one find out if a divorce was registered in Colombia?

Thank you for any honest replies.
