Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies at home and a farrin, Part 27!

Hello my friends! How is everybody? What have I missed???? ;)

I actually have a visa-related question. I am helping a friend of my uncles do his K1 visa petition.
His fiance is from the Ukraine.
I am just going back and looking over k1 visa guides etc, trying to remember how to do all this. Thankfully he is VERY organized.
Where do find out how much I write the check out for? I know fees have changed and I don't want to screw his stuff up.

Thanks!!!

It's $455

Morning!

Good Morning All,

Hope everyone is doing well. Hope everyone had a great weekend as well.

Is anyone a nurse on here? I currently have my BA in Business/Human Resources and work as a Workers' Compensation Specialist, However, I been wanting to get my Nursing Degree, with the hours I work this has made it difficult for me to persue it. However, I am signing up for a Medical Assistant program that is 9 mnths long it will start next month and then I am looking to transfer into the RN program immedately following which I have been told is not a problem by several people at different schools.

I just wanted to get a perspective from a nurse's standpoint if this would be a good move because I remmeber several years back you had to do the LPN and then RN after the Medical Assistant program and believe you me, I do not want to go through all those hurdles.

PM ClaireRN - She's not really on here much, she is on FB - but I am sure she would fill you in -

Can I join? what i would like to know from people on this forum, is have you noticed some blatant racism on the blogs in other forums on this site. I dont mean the usual anti illegal immigrant thing i mean things like shunning, ignoring etc? or am i wrong??

Yes they ask all the question but they didn't ask to see anything. I don't understand we file separate taxes and it is two different houses

Bajan, I honestly think you are going to get a different answer from each person you talk to - Is your house a legal two family? Maybe get a copy of the property record that shows that, and send it with your fiance and the affidavits? Also, if you and your father make over the combined amount required per the people in your household, I wouldn't stress on it - It's so frustrating how inaccurate and random these immigration officers can be.

She left him with DJ when he was a baby - He's mine, as far as I am concerned - no matta how hard I have to fight her!

I love Conch - I had jerked conch last trip - so good!

Where abouts. I know Hartford has a great Little Jamaica, but are there any other places closer to New Haven County?

Hartford definitely has a great JA area - It's one of the largest West Indian Populations in the US - There are some shops in New Haven, have to think about where now - And in Bridgeport, there is a phenomenal international market - all the spices, butterfish, pumpkin, cho cho,......

Not to mention the chicken man on the Boulevard near the flea market - best jerk!

Yup, I'm back home, got back Friday morning. Actually as long as the visa arrives next week I plane on going down Sunday June 27th helping her sell what she needs to and help her take care of things. Then we will be off to Connecticut Wednesday the 30th. Out wedding is set for September 25th so that gives us three days to spare before the 90 day mark. We wanted to have a full wedding with all the works and trying to get a place 5 months out is not the easiest thing to do, the 25th was the only available date at the location we wanted.

How are you doing JaP, have you heard from the embassy.

Matt, where in CT? I am in CT

While they can deny how they will handle the process - They cannot make a decision that circumvents the law. If the law provides for allowing K1s to file a waiver, then the JA consulate CANNOT make the determination that they will not accept them - They can decide how they want to process them, they can decide what criteria to base it on (as long as it meets the baseline guidelines set out by the law), but they CANNOT make a decision to deny a right that is guaranteed under US law - although they are in Jamaica, the Consulate is still covered by US law -

Similar example is that each state has District courts, which are Federal Courts - each state has their own practice rules, which can vary greatly - but they are required to follow the Federal Law that is set out in the US code - they can't make a rule that is against the law, or the case ends up in the Supreme Court and is overturned.

The reason for not abandoning this and just getting married is that they are this far into the process - the fees have been paid, etc... and all that they are asking is to have their waiver application reviewed, as is Princess' right under the law - To abandon it and file a CR-1 means starting all over and paying all the fees again - why do that when the one individual at the Consulate made a random determination that was against what is set out in the law?

Oops, just read my post, lol - Is supposed to say while they can DETERMINE how they handle the process!
susFemaleJamaica2010-06-15 08:21:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies a home and a farrin - Part 26!

Shaneete, what we don't see is the fine print that legal has stated for the process ids that each consular can decide how they will handle a process. Since the JA consular has a wavier approval unit within the embassy, I bet they have decided that this will be their process.

As have been noted by many of the other embassy, each embassy has different rules on how they are handling process within their embassy. The collective rule maybe that a K1 can file a wavier, but the JA consular may have choosen only to offer this to CR1's.

So I have been trying to figure out what I should say all weekend.

I have a scanned copy of the Blue Slip requesting he come back with the waiver package and fee.

I still can't believe they turned him away... and they kept all the paperwork...

I would do a mass blast to each and every email address you can find - Attach the copy of the scanned blue slip, state that you are providing this as evidence that you were requested to return with the waiver - Attach a copy of the regs showing that K1s are eligible, give the date and time of his appointment and a description of who he spoke with, state that the individual retained all of the sets of the waiver, but you would be happy to supply a copy - and ask for clarification or confirmation that the waiver is being reviewed.

Question - did they take the waiver fee? If so, include the receipt for payment

Consul General David Stone; American Citizens Service Chief, Steve Brault; and Chargé d'Affaires, Isiah Parnell

http://www.nilsonleg...rt_1.nilson.pdf

Visa Officer: Mr. Dean Welty, Consul General
Tel: 929-4850/9; Fax 935-6019

Jamaica could get a new United States Ambassador as soon as next month but no later than September.

Charge’ de affairs at the US embassy in Kingston, Isaiah Parnell has been the highest ranking US official in Jamaica since Brenda laGrange Johnson ended her tour of duty as Ambassador in January, 2009.

The Jamaican Ambassador to the US, Audrey Marks, said the selection process for a new US Ambassador to Jamaica is underway at the White House.

She said the nominee from the White House will be sent to Congress, where a formal announcement will be made.

Marks was responding to questions from The Gleaner that a career diplomat has been tipped to become the highest ranking US representative in Jamaica.

According to Marks, the new US ambassador will once again be a woman.

Speculation about reasons for the long delay in selecting an ambassador has been extensive. But, Marks insisted that it’s because of a backlog in the nomination process for federal and ambassadorial positions and not the result of strained relations between Jamaica and the US.

A friend of mine was robbed at Fun Holiday and they tried to blame it on her friend when she knew her friend did not do it.

I would never stay at that hotel after the way they treated my friend after being robbed

I would never stay at that hotel again after the way we were treated - the security guard refused to let my friend on the property so we could change clothes, and told me I lied when I said we had known each other for 20 years! He's a dread, but he's not even Jamaican, he's from Monteserrat!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies a home and a farrin - Part 26!
For those who travel to Negril - the quote is from a trip report about Fun Holiday:

Well, then on June 6th we left for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Locked the dead bolt on our hotel room door and left out for dinner. We came back at 9 p.m. -- our door was still locked. Used the key to get back in because the door was still locked. Upon entry to our room -- we found that we had been robbed. My work lap top, Ipod, $60 cash, two US cell phones, our passports and a backpack that had misc. items in it. No...I wasn't a stupid tourist. I didn't tell anyone I had my laptop -- I didn't take it out of my room -- NOTHING! I was being smart about it. My nephew didn't even have his IPOD out once we arrived. All items stayed in the room and were never mentioned. I had been to Jamaica too many times to set myself up to be robbed. I'm not that dumb. So clearly someone from the staff got in with a key. The police were called to file a report.

The next day we spent the whole entire day in Kingston getting new passports. We arrived back at 9 p.m. to find that items from the backpack were found under the DJ hut by the pool. Of course, nothing important -- just socks and tissues. The more I think about it, I think they items were just placed there to put guilt on an innocent person. They kicked the guy that played music off the property but he had no access to keys. I am not sure I believe it was him. The person who I think it is....is still there. Still working and still smiling in your face but I'm sure plotting to steal from you as soon as you leave your room.

Apparently, when questioned at the airport as to why they had emergency passports, they told the officer what happened in Negril, and he asked them if they stayed at Fun Holiday- so I would say it's not an isolated incident.
