I am curious as to what your result is, Ricardo - and hope they allow you in. I think that the shock and amazement coming from many yardies is that we have seen many people be blue slipped to have their fiance attend the interview with them - and now suddenly they are not allowed in? Are they still going to blue slip to have the fiance attend?

Also, for the fiance visa, the affidavit of support info is being provided at the interview - what if there are questions surrounding it? A fiance might not be able to clarify something in that -

I can understand for a visitor visa = But family based, the petitioner should be allowed in - and if they make a policy that they are not to be present at the interview, then the policy should be published somewhere and they should not be allowed to blue slip people to return with their fiance.

Glad to hear that you got through - but this is beyond ridiculous of the embassy - I have seen many people get blue slipped to return with their SO - If I went down, was there, denied entry to the embassy, and got a blue slip to come back for a second interview I would be flipping out! There is no rhyme or reason to this process, it's like whatever the mood of the day!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaica & Cosponsors?

-1 apples and oranges.. the poster cited saying cosponsors are allowed in Jamaica was not a K1 filer and can only say cosponsors are allowed for CR1's...

Here is the one to talk to...

Ummm... the post that was quoted, at the time of that post (2008) was a K1 filer - As for apples and oranges - Yes, Jamaica accepts co-sponsors, whether K1, K2, CR1,.... - The question is will the Jamaica consulate accept a co-sponsor if the native country would not? I don't think anyone can answer that particular question here, because I don't believe anyone on this site has gone through that.

Probably from the embassy itself, at the link they provided in their message. If you want help, then be grateful for ANY effort made or advice that people give you - Otherwise, google is your friend - good luck.

Okay, I will add a DJ to break the Andre chain, lol -

I was walking through the crowd at Amnesia, coming back from the bar when I felt someone touch my side - Byatch that I am, I shot an evil glare over my shoulder and kept moving - I spent all night avoiding men - it was the first night we had arrived and I was tired! Then as we were getting ready to leave, this really cute man approached me - guess who! He had also been the one that I gave the laser death glare too for touching me, lol - We were basically inseparable that trip - went all over the island, to Rebel Salute, etc.... sparks flew, but I still said I wasn't going there again - I came home, we talked, he kept pressing on when I was coming back - I avoided the subject,.............. then he bought me a ticket - the rest, is history.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaSTRING OF DENIALS COMING OUT OF JAMAICA
Nikki, not everyone has a timeline - Go to the Jamaica portal page and read through some of the recent JA threads, you will see what's going on that has people nervous - Admin review seems to be the big thing lately, where the petition is sent back to the states and sits in limbo for who knows how long
susFemaleJamaica2011-07-11 11:59:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaSTRING OF DENIALS COMING OUT OF JAMAICA

I agree... a string of denials .. carries no weight when our cases are placed for approval. Lot of these denials probably if they took just a little longer time to know their Fiances and their wives. Consular offices are not hung up on reviewing those "pictures, chat logs" i see people on here kill them selves over.. com'on we all know... it's sometimes loaded and created. The process at the embassy will forever climb a mountain and only become harder.... perhaps like the consulate in Nigeria. People there keep up with trying to fly around the visa process... hence - denials.

Not only that - We also are only seeing one small piece of the picture from the posts we read on here. We don't truly know the length of a posters relationship, how many visits they made, what they submitted as evidence, what their finances look like, what their fiance's medical, criminal, certificate of non-impediment looks like, what questions were asked at the interview, what their responses were, etc.... - Trust me, I know how easy it is to panic at what seems to be happening lately, but I think we have to try to take a step back and have faith in our relationship and know that it is valid -

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow safe is Kingston?

don't feel no way, but it's common knowledge to most... Ask me how safe is Istanbul? Sorry I have no clue. The fact that I've spent 20 years amassing an impressive collection of rare 7's & sound system dubplates, immersing myself in the culture & gaining facts about Jamaica would be beside the point.

Common knowledge to most who have never visited and read the news reports.

hmm, we have huge geographical areas that are relatively safe. Kingston and Manila have small residential enclaves from Colonial times that are safe, if they will let you past the armed checkpoints to visit them. Just like all major 3'rd world cities.

Ummm.,... Point proven again - no small residential enclaves with armed checkpoints...........

All my friends who have gone to the Sunsplash Festivals or just vacationed there, as well as any travel agent would advise one to fly to Montego Bay and avoid Kingston like the plague, pity Mike's girl has business to attend to there...

Point proven again - There is no festival called Sunsplash, it's SUMFEST - and why would someone going to Sumfest fly to Kingston? It's on the opposite side of the country, and would take you about 5 hours to drive there - Most tourists do not fly into Kingston because it is not convenient to the typical tourist destinations - As for the travel agents, most will steer you towards an all inclusive and tell you not to leave the property - but most have never been there, and like you, are speaking from what they have read / heard and have never been there.

I just spent three days in Kingston, have friends who live in Kingston, etc... - It's a fun and vibrant multi-cultural city. Are there areas you want to avoid? Most definitely = but should it be painted as a horrible place with someone holding the paintbrush of ignorance? Definitely not -

Mike, your fiancee will be fine - look towards the hotels JAP and I gave you - Another option in the area if you want to save money is the Liguanea Club - it's a private tennis club with rooms, a great pool, etc... that I have stayed at and enjoyed - good restaurant there too. If you have any more questions or need advice, those of us that know Kingston first hand will be happy to give factual advice.
susFemaleJamaica2011-07-31 04:26:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow safe is Kingston?

Kingston is not at all safe, one of the most dangerous places in the western hemisphere. As far as what taxi's to use, I hope other VJ'ers can help, otherwise I would advise her to elicite the help of an airline rep while still inside the confines of the terminal.

You might want to post a question in the Jamaican forum.

Please don't give advice on things you don't have first hand knowledge about - I could easily say that the Phillipines isn't safe either and cite you news articles - same for everywhere.

There are areas that are perfectly safe, there are parts of the city that are not safe - just like any major city.

Mike have you made hotel reservations for her? She needs to use a red plate taxi - those are the legal taxi cabs - When she arrives at the airport, there is a JUTA desk that will help her get a taxi - the hotel will do the same. I would suggest she stay at the Wyndham, Liguanea Club, the Hilton - a few others = those are major hotels near to the embassy which have restaurants there. She will be fine with what she needs to accomplish.

Mike just saw this on another site:

UPDATE: U.S. Embassy announces change to Visa Application Fee Payment Process for Cayman Islands residents
by On the Ground News Reports. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 12:15pm

As of August 31, 2011, the National Commercial Bank (NCB) will end its collection operations for nonimmigrant visa applicants through Financial Integrated Services in the Cayman Islands.

Starting September 1, 2011, applicants residing in the Cayman Islands will be required to pay their U.S. nonimmigrant visa application fees at any National Commercial Bank (NCB) branch in Jamaica before their visa appointments. All costs for visas and related services will not be affected by this change.

For further information about the fees associated with visa applications, please visit the U.S. Embassy Kingston’s website at http://kingston.usembassy.gov.

A list of NCB’s branch locations can be found on their website at http://www.jncb.com/locations .

In your email can you ask the embassy if it's possible to have them deliver the passport to her address or DHL office in the Caymans. I'm not even sure if they deliver there but you can ask. Good Luck.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJAMAICA POLICE RECORD

My fiancé went to get his police record today. It cost 3500 n told him it'll take 25 working days. He should get an interview Amy day now. Idk what to do.

Why did it cost so much?

25 working days is for the slow regular processing and that's $1,000.

he could have paid $2000J and pick up in exactly 1 week.

Exactly, Mrs. Blackwood -

Lexi, I know this process is nerve wracking, and not trying to be harsh - But you have to READ these forums and follow what others are telling you - I see you posting the same questions over and over, the police record issue has been discussed ad nauseum - and then you come in and say he paid more than it costs, even for an expedited one, and can't get it for almost a month? Something is NOT right there.....

There is a ton of useful advice from those who have been there, done that - But if you don't read and follow it, no one can help you -

Unfortunately, no one can give you an exact answer to your questions - people have paid anywhere from $15,000 to $26,000 for their medical, depending on what shots he needs - if he can get the shots at a clinic in advance or has proof of his shots it will be cheaper. Same thing with the exchange rate - no one can calculate it for you to the exact amount, it depends on the day and where you change the money.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaKingston Interview, How Long Until VISA In Hand?
It can take 4 days - it can take 2-3 months - there is no rhyme or reason as to why, and as Life's Journey said, don't make travel plans until the visa is in hand, not just approved -

You aren't allowed to attend the interview anyway (most recent news), unless the embassy requests your presence - in which case you will get a blue slip and have to schedule another interview. So why not wait to see what happens at the first interview, and then fly down once he has the visa in hand if you want to fly with him?

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaFiled for a foreign Spouse Again

So I met and married a Nigerian guy in 2006, filed for him in 2007, in 2008 the petition was returned to USCIS because they questioned the bonfides of the relationship, short courtship (10 Months), limited visits(2), and not enough pictures of different visits. After that, we stayed in contact for about 3 more months after that. At the end of 2008 I went to Jamaica on Vacay and met Adrian. The whole 2 weeks I was there we chated everyday but he was the perfect gentlemen. On the last day of being in JA he asked for my number. I gave it to him. He called about 3 weeks later, we stayed in contact for the next 4 months. I went back to JA and we became the bestest friends ever. I was falling for this guy and didnt want to. For the next 2 years I have traveled to see him, met his family, his children, and shared in his life. Mind you I am still married to the Nigerian guy. In 2010 he asked me to marry him in front of everybody on my birthday. I accepted. At this point I was no longer in contact with Nigeria so I had no idea where he was. I emailed him asked for an address I could send him a gift(divorce) and he gladly gave me an address. 30 days later I was divorced. In May I had a big wedding in Jamaica with family and friends present. I am afraid that immigration will give me problems because I have filed for someone before. Is there any advice, tips, suggestions, comments, or concerns that I should be aare of. Have anyone oe know anyone that has had this kind of experience, if so tell me how it was. Please I am looking forward to hearing from you all. Blessings be with you all.

Adrianna

Plenty of people have married before and divorced - One of the questions on your petition will ask if you have previously petitioned someone. Check yes, and then write see attached. Write an explanation of what happened previously - One of the main concerns with people filing multiple petitions is that they are fraudulently marrying just to get people GC - that did not happen in your case, your ex did not get a GC - marriages end all the time for various reasons - There are others who have petitioned successfully for more than one person -

Just be prepared for the questions that might arise.

i'm on the same step as you.  i really doubt they got it so soon but if anything you can call the embassy starting monday or email them next week. they are going to send packet 3 to the address you wrote for your fiance. however, i already downloaded packet 3 from the naples consulate website and filled it out. it's usually the same packet from what i have heard... the packet  on their website has all the instructions and form attached.

That's...confusing.

Where is the case status update from? The USCIS web site? Maybe you could take a screenshot of that, as a proof, and send them another e-mail and attach the screenshot, showing technically your case is there already. For how long has your case supposedly been at the embassy for? Is it possible the update is just on the web site but they're yet to receive your documents? Also did you get packet 3 by e-mail?
Can't think of anything else to help, hope it won't be as confusing for me when ever the time comes.
Again, good luck and let me know how it goes.

No packet 3 yet.... We did the screen shot thing and sent it Friday .. So hopefully Monday ?? It has only been "ready" for one day as maybe they haven't entered it yet in Napoli???
Thank you for your help... The waiting continues ....
Did you get a chance to choose what day you wanted your interview or did they give you a random date??

ChinaGifts to the bride's family
To the OP, $8000 is way out of line. I have traveled and lived in China and that amount is really quite out of line. Many of the gift customs are different, and vary widely from each area of China.
The golden rule though applies in China just like in the US, if Chinese parent asks you if you have the money to support their child comfortable, answer with an honest yes, but do not say how much money you have in your bank accounts, that is considered rude no matter what country you are in.

Also a couple lesser known customs which will put you in good graces with the family.

If your fiance has sisters or brothers with children under age 10-12 a nice custom is to give those soon to be neices and nephews RMB200. No envelope needed, just over a casual dinner, this one goes a long way to making your fiances siblings happy with you.
Monetary gifts to the parents of your fiance can be handled with the meeting of the parents the first time. Will use my recent case as example. When I asked my fiance to marry me, I did so with the clause "if your parents approve". We then had dinner at a nice restaurant with her family. I politely talked about our relationship with the father, answered several questions from the mother and father about myself, career, future plans etc. When it was apparent they where warming up to me I politely asked for their blessing in marrying their daughter. This was about half way through the evening. Evening proceeded on with us talking about several things, but the parents still had not answered. Toward the end of the evening the father said he would be happy to have me marry his daughter. Just as the evening was ending I handed the father a red envelope with RMB5000 enclosed and then gave the customery end of evening goodbyes, thank yous etc.
One thing to note, chinese custom is that when you hand a gift to someone, hand it to them with 2 hands, this shows respect for elders, also do not expect them to open it, they will not open in your presence and this is why the actual amount does not matter. The amount should be significant, but not anywhere close to the amount the original poster had listed.

AzzudiinMaleChina2009-04-15 07:50:00
ChinaWARNING ATM USE IN CHINA
Helpful hint, before you travel to China call your banks security department, tell them you will be in China and for how long. They will actually put extra security measures on your account to protect you if you lose your card or it is stolen, they can also raise your daily limit to allow for the currency exchange rate.

I do it everytime I travel there and they even called me once in China to confirm it was me using card since it was odd time I used it (4am). Couldnt sleep because of the time change so went for a walk.

AzzudiinMaleChina2009-04-12 19:06:00
ChinaHappy ever after?
I am sure everyone had their times of doubt as they went through the VISA process, people have doubt for regular weddings in one country. Lately it seems all the stories I am seeing are bad ones about people asking divorce questions and others returning to home countries etc.

I want to hear happy endings, people that went through process and now 3 or 4 or 5 years later are still happy and think it was best decision of their lifes.

I am sure in my decision but positive stories would be nice to see, instead of all the negative ones popping up on board.
