US Citizenship General DiscussionGlobal entry program

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program.

Though it says international travel they are adding several domestic air lines and airports. Delta, American and other air lines listing the program on their web sites. Also it can be used at land entries and cruises. They officially launched the program only few months ago and now expanding it. Before it was in the test/beta phase.

They are expanding the program and it can also be used at land crossings, cruises and domestic flights. It is $100 for 5 years not bad at all for the convenience it offers. Amex platinum reimburses the fee. I am sure soon other cards will also follow Amex and reimburse the fees.

You may want to look into CBP Global Entry program. For frequent travellers it makes it easy at airport. I applied and got approved yesterday.

US Citizenship General DiscussionFunctional Illiteracy and the N400 Interview

I was just discussing the N400 process with a friend, and how excited I was that I was finally scheduled. She was then telling me about her spouse who she's been married to for 6 years now. He meets every qualification for naturalization, except for the reading and writing. He is functionally illiterate. She says he can read and write, but only the most basic of sentences. I know there has to be a way that he can get past that, or is it futile?

My heart sank because here I am all excited, and deep down I felt like I was rubbing salt in a wound.

It is very simple. I am sure he will pass.

US Citizenship General DiscussionSS card vs oath ceremony???

Of course, if you SS card is old enough that my immigration status is *not* on it, you can tell them not to generate a replacement card. I showed my passport card as proof of citizenship and told him not to generate a new card, as it was not necessary.

How old is your card? I received my card in 1981. Should I ask for the new card or current card is enough?

Ok guys, called to Customer Service and they told me my case is pending...... and USCIS has 120 days to make decision    Are you serious? What if they decline me?

I think you are worrying too much. Why don't you wait and see what happens. You are going to drive your self nuts if you keep worrying about it.

Hi Elmira, relax, you'll get the letter. I had my interview on 2/10 and still waiting to get the oath date letter. IO said March session is full and possibly for April session. So I am waiting. I would wait 30 days before I call them that way it will give them time. Email said they would let me know with in 45 days of the recommendation so they could take upto 45 days before they get back to us.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhen to file for citizenship?

I apologize in advance. I am sure this has already been covered but I did do a search and also read the FAQ but I am still confused.

My wife's CR-1 was approved and she entered US on 9/25/2009. Her conditional-removal application was approved on 3/22/12 (4 days ago).

Per the citizenship requirement, she will have to be a Permanent Resident for a minimum of three years before applying. Now, does this "three-year" count since her entry to the US or since her conditional removal?

From the date she received the Green Card or became LPR. It is 3 years but I believe you can apply 90 days before the 3 years. Search on the forum and you can find more details.

US Citizenship General DiscussionPassport Question

Yes.
1 passport photo, the filled out form, and a check.

And don't even think about just applying for a passport book. You absolutely need to get a passport card as well. The extra cost is $25 if applied at the same time, and it will come 2 or 3 weeks later, but you need to have another document proving that you are a U.S. citizen in case something happens to your passport book, whether it gets stolen, lost, or damaged. The one thing you don't want to do is to take your Certificate of Naturalization out of the bank safe again once you put it in there. That document is irreplaceable, literally.

Thanks Brother Hesekel. I am planning on applying for both Passport and Passport Card. It is worth it to carry it around as a proof of USC. In some of the Border states they can stop and check for the proof.

US Citizenship General DiscussionPassport Question

Yep, you should be able to get a same-day or 24h passport. The extra fee should be the same as expedited; i.e., $60 on top of the regular fees.

That is not bad. I'll call Boston office and make appointment so I can go there right after my Oath Ceremony. Besides the Naturalization Certificate, Drivers License is there any thing else I have to take with me when I goto Passport Office?

Yes, that should be possible, of course, you cannot apply until after your taken the Oath, but once you have done that you will be pay through the nose for expediated service :)

How much more it will cost for the expedited service? How long does it take for the regular processing of the passport?

Hello and how are you doing?

First of all, congrats on getting done with your interview.

I need to ask a quick question in regards to sending your package.

I sent my about a week ago and nothing has been back yet to me via email/txt/mail.

How long did it take for u to receive your NOA?

I saw "snail's mail"(LOL) in ur journey..should I just lay back and hope and pray that I get it in another wee or two?

Usually you'll receive NOA with in 2 weeks. Some times could take longer. Did you send the form for the txt message along the application? If now you have to wait until you receive your NOA and register online to receive text messages.

I looked into my Oath Ceremony letter and they asked me to bring the Green Card and Re-Entry Permit. Did not say any thing about the passport. If you have a passport then you can take it with you. I don't think they care so much about the old passport. New Passport should be enough for them to check and see if you travelled since your interview.

US Citizenship General DiscussionProof question

Hey Guys,

just a quick question is a copy of joint lease required to file for N-400 based on 3 year marriage?

we re moving to a new place and my wife doesnt have credit and the new apartment will be under my name only.

will that cause any problems?

Thanks!

Though your wife does not have credit she can be in the lease agreement. USCIS can be very picky for documentation if they are filing based on 3 year marriage.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship and Annullment

I had my interview after my second anniversary, my K3 visa was valid for Two years, is that the same as CGC?

I am not sure about K3 and CGC are the same. But if you have attended the 2 year interview and removed the conditions and gave you a 10 Green Card I am sure they checked the details. I would say wait for the 5 year and apply for N400 based on 5 year category. If I were you, I would still talk to any atty or get the court documents and find out exactly fraud claim your wife put into the case. Does the annulment due to fraud caused a conviction? Or in future can they prosecute you for fraud and convict you? I think this is some thing you should take seriously and find out the details to make sure you do not have future problems. Most of the times when you apply for the job or security clearance they can do a background check.

Going to higher court you are trying to dig into a can of worms. Just let it go and apply for the USC based on 5 year residency and if any questions arise then you can explain to IO. Other option is see if your ex wife can marry you back again willingly and all this goes away.

I am confused though. I thought they give a 2 year GC and then apply for the ROC for 10 year card. I wonder if OP went through that process of ROC. Is ROC only for people some certain countries or required for applicants from all countries?

I go to the courthouse and have the "Dissolution without children" the court annulled it, it's in her testimony she alledge it was fraudulent.
But the court order was Marriage dissolved without children, don't know if Immigration is going to go into the details about why and what not,

Do not goto court. Your state should have an office where they keep the vital records like birth, death, marriage, divorce. All it shows is a divorce or annulment and does not show the history. Not sure what state you are located in, try to find out the contact info. I know I got certificates from Virginia and New Hampshire vital records division. It is worth checking and see what it says. Again unless you are applying based on a 3 year married to USC not sure why they would ask for divorce certificate. My suggestion and best bet find out where is the vital records division is located in your state and get it. If you can not go in person you can also apply online and get the certificate.

Thanks folks, I got the annullment decree and in her reason for annullment it was alledge I committed fraud.
She had placed a publication in the newspaper and also sent a formal notice to my parents address, (they didn't see any letter from her or her lawyer) .
I was and am a truck driver and usually go on the road for weeks at a time, I've contacted the courts about having the annullment overturn but they're saying it's been long ago (2006) and might be a futile effort on my part. Really confused and worried

You can goto court house or state division of records and get a copy of the annulment record. It is different from decree and it just might say the marriage annulled with out any details. If that is the case then you are in much better shape. It costs only $5-$10 to get one of those and you can always show that to IO. I doubt they will ask for the decree from court. I would say get the certificate and see what says and then you can talk to an atty. I personally would not file for N400 until I check with an Atty and find out the details. Worst case you can remain as a LPR than getting it more troubles with out your knowledge.

Hey folks,
I am new on here but like a few advice if possible.
I came to the US from Manchester England in 2005 on a K3 visa, my ex-wife is a USC, and received my ten year GC a few months later.
My wife and I had a falling out and we took time apart, she filed for annullment base on fraud and was granted it. I wasn't aware of the annullment or her allegations of fraud,
I wasn't aware of the annullment and only found out a few months ago, we're both on speaking terms and occasionally have a few romps.
My question is can I file for my citizenship based on the 5 year rule, and will this revoke my GC? She's willing to write a letter stating that she was angry and annulled the marriage out of spite,
Furthermore shouldn't I have been contacted to contest the annullment?
Thanks

You may want to meet with an atty with all the case details and seek advice. Not knowing what is the fraud charge and its base we can not make suggestions for you.

US Citizenship General Discussionhow to correctly list residence

i was not originally concerned about this matter, but suddenly, i realized i mistakenly put my philippine address in my philippine marriage certificate.. and its a mess to change that.

so yeah i am just concerned that my marriage certificate has my philippine address, so do i have to write that address down in my n400 during that time period?

No. You are going to write the current address where you are living in your N-400 Application. You could have been married at a different place and it does not matter. For N-400 purposes you put your current address. That will also determine which lockbox your application should be sent to as residents of different states has to send their application to different lockboxes. If you are unsure you can make an info pass appointment and ask for advice from Immigration officer. Or have an atty file your application and save your self from head ache.

I thought you only list the time and country you travelled to and time. I did not think there is any specific requirement to fill the overseas address while traveling. At least I did not see when I filled out the application.

US Citizenship General DiscussionChild Born
I believe once the child is born in US acquires the US Citizenship. At the age of 18 they can decide if they want to obtain citizenship of parents country depending upon the laws of that country. My questions would be how do you include the child in the passport? Get a US passport ( I guess that is not possible at least till they reach certain age ) or include in parents passport. If parents are citizens of 2 different countries does the child has to be listed in both parents passports so their respective countries grant benefits.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 MAY 2011 FILERS

Hey, Congratulations!! That's good news. Have you done your FP within the last 16 months? I believe, if you have then they don't need a fresh one. Am not sure...so better verify that before your interview.

That is really confusing though. I got the FP done in September for my I-90 replacement. Now they have sent me email that FP letter is being sent to me for the N-400. I am pretty sure if I were to apply for I-131 they will require another FP appointment. It is safe to assume they would ask for the new FP every time we apply for a benefit that requires the FP. May be they want that extra revenue keep coming from the FP fees.

US Citizenship General DiscussionUSCIS contacted after became a US citizen

Checking my emails from the USCIS, format is firstname.lastname@dhs.gov. Know this is perfectly valid as the persons name on it was the same person I spoke to on the phone.

Received faked emails many times, can use tricks to put a false email address in the context of the email, but not in the header.

Curious as to what that document is, but no details on how you applied, marriage or five year, criminal record? With over 5,000 cases pending now after receiving naturalization for possible faults, could very well be a real email. You should know if any trouble areas exist, rest of us are just guessing.

From the OP post it says to bring ID and Naturalization Certificate. Is it possible they want to take the Certificate back from OP? I thought there is a legal process to revoke the Citizenship and can be lengthy to revoke USC once it is approved. From what I understand with they can revoke USC status at any time in the future for possible violations of US laws and they made it easier to approve USC and easier to take away the USC.
