Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

If you get your green card though marriage, you can apply for citizenship 3 years after you received permanent residency (the rest of the people have to wait 5 years). Actually, you can submit your application for citizenship 90 days before those 3 years (check the date in you green card).

Personally, I dont want to apply for citizenship. Even though I like it here Peru is my homeland, the country that raised me and made me who I am. I like the US but I dont love it as my country. I feel that it would be like trading your birth parents (maybe poor and small but the ones that support you your whole life) for a new rich foster parent you just met (maybe cool and powerful but you just met). If the US accepted dual citizenship like most countries do, the story may be different. I dont like that part i the oath were you agree to "renunce to any foreign alliance bla, bla, bla". My husband wants me too though. He is a federal officer and he feels it is "safer" for me to be US citizen. As a citizen you have the absolute garanty that you wont be deported. Green Card holders can still be deported. I have known many people who think like me but became citizens after having children, because of the fear that something may happen to them and their families might end up beign separated (they crossed their fingers during the "I renunce to Peru part". )

I can understand that but You will have a family here, w /a husband , kids so You have a new life in this country it doesnt mean You trade your country ...
talking about the green card on the welcome letter it said that "It will expire in 2 years and several months before it expired I should apply to remove my conditional status"... so in 1 year and some months I should apply for my citizenship... is that right?

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

Hi everybody. I am so glad to see a post for peruvians (and their spouses). I havent checked this webage in a while (probably since I got my green card). Hubby and I are doing really well. We are going to have a religious wedding in August (we got married by a Judge more than 3 years ago with no guests, no party, nothing). we are having a Catholic ceremony (as you know 95% or peruvians are Catholic). He is Methodist but he has agreed to raise our children Catholics (we plan to have a child next year).

I miss Peru. Basically my friends, the FOOD, and yes the maid. Before moving permanently to the US, I had come here many times for tourism. I already spoke English and had a pretty "american" life so it was no shock. My parents and most of my family were already here (different States, though) so that aspect was fine. But the food was probably the hardest part. I didnt know how to cook. On my first day I burn the rice and the potatos and I started to cry. My hubby hugged me and told me everything was going to be fine. He was (and still is) an angel. He had (and still has  ) lots of patience with me. I was a complete idiot when it came to housekeeping. I didnt know how to vaccum or do the laudry

We are going to Peru for our second honeymoon this August. We will be in Lima, Cusco, Puno and Arequipa. I have already made a list of all the things I want to eat. I guess I wont have enough time. I want CORN, real corn, not this tiny sweet canned thing they sell here. I want tamales , ceviche, anticuchos, lomo saltado, etc., etc. I dont mind packing the extra pounds. Dont forget the INKA KOLA.

Oh, the best Cevicheria (seafood restaurant) is El Pez Amigo, in Miraflores. It's absolutely delicious. A little bit expensive but it is worthy.

Take care everybody,
Claudia

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

Hey MandR, thanks for the web site, they have good products. We are planning to go to Miami in October, we have a wedding but we want to travel to Peru next year too so we will see if we can find cheap tickets from here to Miami. If we go, maybe we can contact you and have a peruvian party, i have many peruvian friends there :) By the way, congratulations on you wife's green card

Hi Veroka, i havent eaten in that restaurant in Caminos del Inca, but i have seen it. I think we were taking about the same restaurant, its near el Ovalo Higuerete, the owner is the former Cheff of Costa Verde, thats why the food is really good. About the lemon and lime, yeah here they have both, but they called it lime to what we call lemon in Peru, i discussed a lot about that when i first met my husband in Peru, i was really stubborn in that but now i have realized that they call lime to the green one and the other is lemon, for us lime is a fruit and its sweet, I miss it too :P

About Alan Garcia winning the elections again, No comments

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

I think we all need to get together and have one big Peruvian party...... Infact on July 28 here in Miami they have a very BIG party for the Peruvian independance day.

If any of you come to visit down in South Florida there are a number of Peruvian restaurants as well as a grocery store chain called Sedanos you can buy Cuzquena beer.

I will post again the web sight as soon as I can find it that you can order online Peruvian food.

Ok I located the web sight for the Peruvian products

www.LaBodegaPeruana.com

Hola MandR
Have U ever have ordered something from La bodega peruana??
I was looking all the products they offer, there's something I like it and they have it Ollucos
and I also will remember for Christmas that they have Panetones :D

Here In columbus, Its gonna be this weekend a Festival Latino
www.festivallatino.net
maybe I can find something from Peru
the last weekend was a festival of art and I found a Peruvian, He make retablos which were very nice.
I dont know if Peruvians here make something for July(28) but I know in NJ they have a big celebration.
I cant tell the percent of peruvians here but I think is not too much but I could find few Online, they have a website Peruanos en Ohio and I know they meetings sometimes.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

Hi everyone,
My fiance is from Peru (Lima) he has been here for four years, he misses many things from home....especially now during the copa mundial. Before we came here (Minneapolis) we were in Lima (Jesus Maria) and before that me in Colombia (Bogota, Chapinero) and him in Lima. Things I know he misses and the first thing he does when he arrives in Lima (about 1 time per year, this year we will go to visit in January 2007!!):
1) chela + ceviche
2) arroz con pollo
3) lomo saltado
4) pan - pan - pan
5) pastel de acelga
6) acetunas
7) palta

There is a good cevicheria in Lima: la choza nautica, but I have never been there (just heard it is good).

PS> I don't know about the rest of you, but we were surprised that Alan Garcia was re-elected :0

Hola
yeah .... :D your fiance must miss the soccer... The peruvian men love soccer
talking about the new presindent and former president of Peru .. Yes I didn't expect that... I though that maybe Lourdes Flores could be the 1st woman in became president but at the end there were 2 options Humala or Garcia, fortunally I didnt vote but I dont know what to expect for Peru whit Garcia as a president.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

She is adjusting pretty well so far but is having to get used to not having a maid hahahaha.

Im from Peru too from San Isidro-Lima and yeah your right, at least to me, to not have a maid has been really difficult, I have had one since i was born, i just needed to say"i want this or that" and she inmediately made it, in fact i miss her too because she had worked for us many many years, she is a lovely person, they day i left, she cried a lot too :( Here i had to learn how to cook, so far im doing pretty good :) at least my husband is still alive :P hahahaha, well im trying to do my best, my husband loves peruvian food, so i try to cook peruvian dishes everyday. I have heard that there are many peruvian restaurants in California, but we havent gone to one yet although we have a gift certificate for one :P so i dont know if its the same or not. I have heard too that there are some markets that sell peruvian things too like inka kola, aji amarillo, aji colorado, rocoto, paneton, we need to find out if thats true or not.
I have almost 3 months here and what i miss from Peru is my family :( , i talk to them everyday but its not the same and sometimes i get depressed, my husband has helped me a lot with that, thank God i married a wonderful man who has supported me a lot in everything and he really gives me a lot of love and affection and that definitely is helping a lot. I cant wait to come back to Peru and visit my family :) I miss them a lot

Yes I miss ceviche too, everytime I think about it :crying: I miss it... ceviche de pescado, ceviche mixto, ceviche de conchas negras my favorite
There are NOT many peruvians here I mean in Ohio so Its hard for us to find a peruvian restaurant, there's only one in the whole city and the owners are old and they open on weekends at night its like a bar/restaurant I like their pisco sour
We also tried to make sangria, It was OK lol
I like this place, It wasn't too shocking moving here but sometimes I miss Peru.. my friends, my family, the food I used eat and its hard to find here.... my favorite band Libido there's none about them in the stores so We download many songs and I could talk to them online on myspace, actually many of the peruvian singers have a account in myspace like pedro suarez vertiz, gianmarco, christian meier, TK, Libido...

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFinal Packet

Hello everyone!
Im just looking over my e mail from the consulate in ciudad juarez mexico, and wondering..how long can this letter take to arrive? Do they send it regular mail? or FEDEX UPS or DHL, they told me more than a week ago that the case was already processed and that a letter (the fiance packet) should arrive any day now.. im in mexico with her so i get to share in the everyday stress of waiting for the mail..yesterday i had one fedex package come (i was excited) but it wasnt it, and then it didnt come with the regular mail either.
anyway, just wondering if anyone has experience with this consulate and knows how they send stuff or typically how long it takes to get information from them..
thanks for any info (and ur time)
adios!

I think you mean Packet 3 and 4. I dont know in mexico how much time it takes to get it but for me was around 2 weeks, they both came together so u know what papers you have bring and what day will be ur oppont. it was a regular mail but if she gets the visa the embassy uses DHL .

I hope it helps you.

QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Jun 12 2008, 05:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Did you send your I-751 through a method that can be tracked? If so, you can verify when it arrived. Did you send it directly to California or to Nebraska? If you used a cheque you will be able to check with your online banking when that cheque is cashed. You should receive your NOA 1 notification extending your greencard for a year very soon. You shouldn't have to worry but until you receive the NOA you will have no proof of your legal status. If you do not receive your NOA within 30 days after you submitted it you can go to the local USCIS office and get an I-551 stamp in your passport extending your status for a year.

Ok I will kick myself then.. and wait 30 days for my NOA
Oh, I sent it to Nebraska

veroka and vi - thanks!

Our wedding is going to be here in the States.....I finally got the reception hall, photographer, and DJ booked. Looks like the date will be Sept 9th. Lu is trying to purchase her wedding dress in Peru and bring it here. I'm really hoping some of her friends and family will be able to be here. We also plan to travel back to Peru sometime after the wedding to celebrate there as well.

Lu loves the Peruvian folk music so we will definately include that as well.

What about some of the traditions like we have here:

1. Father/daughter dance
2. Best Man/Maid of honor
3. Toss the bouquet
4. Toss the garter belt
5. Cutting of the cake
6. Toast by the Best Man and Maid of Honor

Are there any special dances or songs that are usually done?
Who sits at the head table?

Thanks!

----------------

will u marry her in peru too?

I think is the same even i saw some cakes have a hide ring so the single girls try to pull the ribbons and one of the them have the ring, it suppose she will be the next victim hahaha.

usually the parents of both sides sit in the table of course the couple is in the center...

there's a special song or type of music you have to dance whit ur future wife. She dance also whit your parents and you whit her parents....

you can download the song if you want but the type of music is vals...try w/ this song Tiempo de vals (by chayanne) i hope it help You. ;)

Wedding planning is now underway, and unfortunately I've been doing much of it on my own until my fiance can get here.

I did have some questions for the Peruvians......what is a typical wedding in Peru like? Any special customs?

I would like to surprise Lucia by including any special customs if there are any.

There's not difference between the way We (peruvians) celebrate a wedding and an American wedding,
I'm pretty sure a peruvian women would love to have a catholic wedding, in a church whit a beatiful dress and her family and some friends and You can include music, food and drink from Peru as Vi adviced you.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaMarriage in Peru????

Hi,
If you were married here in the US via civil wedding, you just need the marriage certificate to prove to the church in Peru that you are legally married. The churches in Peru want to know that the couple is married already (by the civil authorities). That means the couple needs to go through the process of first getting the US marriage license (+translation) legalized by the Peruvian consulate and then secondly legalized by the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores. If you live in a city with a Peruvian consulate, this is easy. If not, call the consulate and find out when the will be doing a visit to your city (or nearby). Otherwise you usually have to have this legalization process done in person (both husband and wife must appear and the consul signs the "Registro Civil". We did this -- it took 15 minutes.

Since you don't need to have a civil wedding, you can probably forgo all of the things like the blood tests, payment of fees, medical exams, publishing the announcement in the newspaper, etc. These are actually requirements of the municipality, not the church. Of course, the church has its own requirements :)

If you want a religious ceremony, why not talk to a church that has a bilingual priest about the options? The one on Ovalo Gutierrez might be a good place to start...it is very pretty at any rate :) Perhaps if premarital courses are involved, they would accept something done by a Catholic church in the US?

Thanks for the tips I have to go through that process
to proof our marriage in the USA in the case of a religios ceremony.
BUT the thing is that my husband is not catholic so in this case i dont know what I should do, what requirements we need??
Im trying to find it out and if you know something about it let me know.
thank you one more time :)

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaTickets to Peru

Tickets to Peru are ridiculously expensive. My wife left last Tuesday to Lima for a 10 day visit and we paid from Miami $640.00. I used to pay around $380.00 a year ago. Thanks gas prices.

Try looking into leaving out of Miami to Lima on LAN or American and get separate tickets for the trip from New York to Miami. My quick search would put at around $1,300.00 total each. Still expensive, but better than the $2,000.00 your travel agent wants

A travel agency I have used in the past is www.abstravel.com

Good luck

From cincinnati, Ohio via delta $759 only 1 stop (in january 2007)

Tus apellido de tu green card saldra como figura en los formularios que llenaste, AUNQUE tu pasaporte tenga tu apellido de soltera. Luego lo cambias, suerte

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHi, I'm from Peru

Hello Everyone,
I'm from Canton, Ohio and my fiancee is from Lima, Peru.
I just returned two days ago from seeing her for the 3rd time in 2 years (4 times total since 2009)

We will be starting the visa soon. Here are a few questions I have:

1.) I will be using a close friend as a sponsor for financial support in our visa.
What information will he be required to provide?
Also, since he is my sponsor, do I need to include information on my employer and bank papers? What if I am currently collecting unemployment?

2.) I am looking into hiring a K-1 Visa Agency to help in the document assistance. Any recommendations?

3.) My fiancee, once she receives the visa in Peru, would like me to travel to Peru, marry her in a church and travel with her to the states to perform the legal wedding. Is this a possibility?

Thank you soooo much!!!

Sincerely,
Scott - Ohio
&
Dina - Lima, Peru

but I can help you with the last question... or kinda :) after she gets her VISA k1, she will enter to the US and have i think 3 months to get marry in order to start the process for her green card.
you don't need to get marry in Peru, it won't made a difference for your papers but It's nice to have a wedding with your family and friends.
