QUOTE (bobs @ Apr 12 2009, 09:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hey guys i am ready to send AOS and DS 230 . Can i send both in same envelope together or i need to send in different envelope.

Yes separate them inside the outer envelope but you can mail them within the same. Make sure you have tracking information it helps you pass the time tracking it and when it is received

National Visa Center (Dept of State)RFE at NVC for I-864 not original signature
Oh How idiotic am I!!! I sent the wrong copy of the I-864 in after I went over everything a hundred times and was so paranoid I can't believe I did not send the original I-864 signature in headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif
The good news is everything else is in order according to the operator. Operator was very cooperative and nice and informative!
A bit of advice you cannot check your paper work too many times!

I will get these sent pronto!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Case complete or is it or is it? or is it?
Ok Since I had my RFE and my documents have been received at NVC I have been about as patient as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

So i call AVR a lot and the message says that they have received my documents from check list and wait 6-8 weeks for their response. Ugh

So I decided last few days to check the online payment status because this at least makes me feel better. day after day showed paid and then wala today NVC website: "Sign In Failed" YAY the NVC no longer handles my case yay

So i tried calling operator and they said no I don't have any info on your case wait 2- 4 weeks for them to review HUH?

so I figure wait til after business hours call operator again hee hee I'm so tricky.

So the operator tonight was really cool unlike the earlier jerk!! She says um hmm ok let me look type type type. Ok Sir seems all your material is in order it is showing case is completed here and the next step is for us to issue an interview date blah blah blah. So I asked could you check again make sure all documents are received and in order because after a long process I don't believe easily. So she told me a little different information second time, like that it is all documents in order but it is in final review for completion but then like heed and hawed around the terminology about "IS IT COMPLETE OR NOT" then she would not give me a straight yes or no answer so I was wondering, I know I know I know it is near compltee if not officially, but has anyone experienced the silver awkwarded worded operators saying different things about case complete or in super secret final review status.

Anyway I will wait for the official notification but I am complete or almost complete or nearly complete or finally near almost complete!!!! yes.gif
Dan & JuanMaleChina2009-04-29 19:34:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long does the final review at NVC really take?
I didn't even wait for the checklist to be emailed I called and asked exactly what they needed and I sent it express mail and it still took 2-3 weeks after that for me in mid april.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Waiting For Case Completion At NVC
whistling.gif Ok so the operators must be tired of hearing the same questions they all seem to say last few days Sir you will just have to be patient I don't see it yet just try calling back in a week yeah right I am not gonna wait a week that's why I know everything by heart when I dial. I am really hoping my RFE documents are in the right place and just a technicality no more RFE I just want to be case complete so I can move on with the next part!

Congrats to everyone moving to the next level!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow to answer why we got married so quickly
QUOTE (Gary and Alla @ Jun 7 2009, 02:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
QUOTE (Svadharma @ Jun 7 2009, 12:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all! My husband has his interview on the 29th of June and I have been trying to help him get ready for the interview. The only possible question that might be hard to answer is why we decided to get married so quickly. We met one day and essentially started living together the next day. We got married after only knowing each other for 4 1/2 months. If they ask him this, the only answer I can come up with is..... "because we fell in love and just knew that we wanted to be together." I don't know if this is a good response though... any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The good response is the truth. Why DID you get married so quickly? What's wrong with your answer? I met my wife completely out of the blue, completely by fortunate accident and 3 hours later I KNEW I was walking around with my wife to be. Took her two days to figure it out, but she is slow like that.

4-1/2 months from meeting to marriage is not a long engagement but rules out drunken blunders in Vegas. Doesn't sound so unusual. Hey, when you know it...you know it.

I hate this question in so many ways. I am paranoid and wondering how many red flags will pop up. I am 45 years old I have never been married. I enjoyed my single life sure it would be nice on many levels to have a family and all that, well I tell you what getting married is a hassle, its a lot of work stress and money. I was cruising along on my own. Then somehow I came across this woman online, which almost instantly changed my view and my life. I have no explanation how I knew that she was different, but I just KNEW. And like the timeline of a couple months I knew this was serious serious love. I had never met her in person but spending up to 8 hours a day online just felt right. Well when I planned on visiting her the whole idea of how to proceed, we were pretty sure that fiancee and engagement and eventual marriage would be a good plan, and we would see how it went. So my red flags are maybe, quick relationship, married first visit, maybe age gap.

Well my position was that i KNEW she was THE one for me and I for her and that if we married right away we would certainly be apart for a year maybe and that we could use the time apart to plan and know so much more, even though we got so close so quickly. Well we were apart 9 months but of course endless online time together.
So now we are still very happy to be married and really really hate being apart, but accept the fact that we have to be patient. now if they are going to be asking such questions why don't I visit more and longer etc. I don't know how much money and vacation that VO's get but most people can't afford to take off work that needs them there and pay thousands of dollars to travel across the world. If I had my way she would be here with me and all our problems would be solved. If they ask her this question we will be totally honest but I HATE that honest sounds so flaky. I mean we fell in love we arenot children and we knew it was right to be married, that is the only explanation they should need.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProof of employment. The Work Number? BLAH!
QUOTE (vareska @ Jun 3 2009, 08:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
OK so I am not alone in this worknumber BS smile.gif

I sent paycheck stubs with my AOS packet today, and I also sent a copy of returned employment verification letter request that I sent to my company HQ, and they just returned it to me with the worknumber stamp and their ID on it...
So I wrote a brief letter that I included with my AOS packet in which I explained that due to company policies I am unable to obtain the letter, and that they (NVC)can check that info on worknumber website. I created the salary key on worknumber, printed out that page with code and sent it also to NVC and said they can use that if they need further proof. Hopefully it will work...

sounds solid! they will let you know if they need something
Dan & JuanMaleChina2009-06-04 20:58:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProof of employment. The Work Number? BLAH!
Oh It is sooo frustrating. My employer also uses the work number, and like you said they have to use the phone or internet, get an account, pay a monthly fee etc, what's the deal! So I asked our HR department to do the letter and they said that they have a timeline of 6 months to generate a letter! I was like WHAT? then they said ask my departments HR person and so I emailed him the template and said it has to be on letterhead and I made it easy for him and he did it for me well he forgot but when I bugged him he did the letter. There HAS to be a way a person can do this for you, i would ask until you get it in writing that they will not do it for you, and then maybe submit THAT letter with all the pay stubs and maybe your own history of employment that is a connect the dots approach to the same result.
Good luck I know this tune!

My husband mailed me all the copies of documents he submitted to USCIS and NVC to be brought for my upcoming interview including the form I-864 and tax transcripts but unfortunately it's still hasn't arrived here. I am leaving to Manila on tuesday and i am afraid i will never get those documents on time. Although we have already submitted to the NVC our form I-864 together with tax transcripts they will still require those during my interview, right? My question is...since my interview will be on the 18th but i am leaving on the 9th for my medical...can we still request for a copy of his tax transcript? Is it possible for the IRS to fax me the copy of my husband's 2008 tax transcript so i can get it faster than have it send through mail? or have it fax to my husband and husband scan and email it to me? Is it acceptable to bring scanned form I-864 during my interview? or does it need to be an original copy? This is the only way i can think of getting those requirements faster. Pls if you have any idea you can share with me...i appreciate it. Thanks!

whoa....i never made copies of my docs...and neither has my husband. we sent originals to NVC and i thought the only thing im supposed to bring with me at the interview is the medical report, passport photos, and proof of a bonafide marriage. am i screwed for not having made copies of the docs???

I actually sent extra copies to NVC just for an example like this. I will make extra ones anyway I have the copies made already!

I only sent in the most recent copy of everything... but I fully anticipate an interview... but don't really care anyways. We are definately a real married couple and an interview doesn't frighten me at all.

We just had a similar experience. We filed in late July. No touches along the way and got the card a few days ago with no interview. We filed in Nebraska and got the card from California.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionA 1:00am interview?
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum. If so, feel free to move it!

My fiancé received his appointment letter a few weeks back. It's set for January 17th in Vancouver, but at 1am?! I am guessing that this is a typo, but I wanted to ask to see if the consulates actually do interviews at bizzare times like that? Kyle tried to e-mail them and ask, but never got anything back. Does anyone know? Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support
QUOTE (SnowyTater @ Apr 15 2008, 03:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey guys,

Those of you who've already done your affidavits of support, what did you have to go through to get the statement from your bank concerning your account, money details, etc?

I just went to my Bank of America branch and told the woman my situation and what I needed. Said all I needed was a letter or statement on bank letterhead with all the necessary details, 3 copies.
She says there's an official process the bank has for these immigration things that I'll have to go through, that they can't do it at the local branch and it has to be sent off and will take some days to process. Fine. Starts asking me for information and details about the actual immigration...? I don't see how this is all relevant since it's more of a "to whom it may concern, this person is not that broke" letter, to my understanding.
Says there'll be a $10 for it. Then a few minutes later says there'll be a $20 per hour "research fee" for it and that'll be an X unpredictable amount.
Then she says she can only have the statement sent to the "address on my records," my home permanent address, and not to where I'm actually at; the best they could do is have it faxed into the local branch, which obviously doesn't help since no one there is willing to put an original signature on it as it's not the "official process."

Did you guys have to go through something like this? I thought I'd just go to one of those personal bankers, they could look up the details of my account, write a quick letter and sign it. My mom is my co-sponsor and she's already gone to her branch (still Bank of America) and her personal banker did exactly this for her no problem, no mention of an "official process."

Just wanting to know how it worked for everyone else and if the immigration guys care what the statement looks like/how "official" it is?

Thanks a lot. blush.gif

That sounds pretty crazy. My bank really did nothing like that. I told them what I needed, the banker looked at my account information on the computer. I told him what info I needed in the letter, and he typed it up on a company letterhead, signed it, and gave it to me. I don't know why they would charge for such a thing.

US Citizenship General DiscussionBeing citizens of both countries?

Yep there is nothing wrong with that at all just as long he has his US citizenship when you decide to move. Many people get both. There's really no downside to doing it other then you could be summoned for jury duty and you still have to declare taxes outside of the US, and maybe if you are in the age range, possible to have military duty (which hasn't happened since Vietnam).

I've had both for a number of years now and have both passports...

Well the selective service only goes until 25 I think, and Kyle will be 24 this year, so we don't have too much longer to deal with that. You still have to file your taxes, though? That's a bummer. :(

Thank you for your information! My husband is a Canadian citizen, and we're actually going to be submitting his paperwork for ROC within a couple of months. Our (tentative) plan is to get his citizenship here, and then if the timing is right with jobs and such, move to Canada and get my citizenship. That way, we can live wherever we want, when we want.

I know that it's possible for both the USC and immigrant to both become citizens of both countries. I'm wondering if anyone has done this, especially with Canada. I'm just kind of looking for the timeline that you took and how it went. Thank you!

CanadaCanadian Birth Certificates?
QUOTE (trailmix @ Sep 10 2007, 11:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Conflicting info here - which raises an interesting point. Do they want the 'Frame' version, which has parents names and place of birth - or do they want the long form Certified Photocopy of Birth Registration (the 'real' deal)?

I don't have to get one but curious - since the latter is the one I had to have to get my U.S. passport.

Exactly - that's what I am wanting to know! The "Certified Photocopy" is $50 and the "Frame" version is only $25. I'd rather not pay twice as much if I don't have to, but I don't want to be a cheapy and not be approved because I didn't get the Certified photocopy for twice as much!!!

CanadaCanadian Birth Certificates?
QUOTE (Nini & Bee @ Sep 10 2007, 05:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The consulate will want to see the long version Frame Certificate, which shows parents and their place of birth on top of the regular stats.

Is your fiance the USC or the Canadian? Usually the non-USC does not need to show the birth certificate until the interview stage.

My fiancé is the Canadian, I'm the USC. We photocopied his birth certificate and sent it with the I-129F. I'm just really hoping there isn't a problem and it's not held up because we send in the short, wallet-sized version. I'm going to tell him tonight though to call in and request/order a copy of the long frame version in case there is a problem and he will need it anyway for the interview so he may as well go ahead and request it now,

CanadaCanadian Birth Certificates?
I have a question for those who have already filed who are from Canada.
I realized today while looking at some information to try and start gathering some information and documentation to prepare for the interview. I realized that the birth certificate my fiancé sent in was the short version, not the long. Will the send it back asking for the full Birth Certificate?
Also, which version of the birth certificate do they want to see at the interview/in the I-129F? Do they want the "Frame Certificate" or the "Certified Photocopy of Birth Registration"?

I believe this is the list people use.

Well not to nitpick or be annoying, but which number do you phone? I mean, for example, I went to the Detroit Service POE (Land) and they have more than 10 phone numbers on that page with all of the information. Which one would be the right number to call to see if we can get a stamp there or not (all land POEs not just Detroit)

CanadaWhat's your song?/lyrics?
Our song was originally "Far Away" by Nickelback. It was current-ish and Kyle is a Nickelback fan. However, now that we're together, we have two other songs that are better suited to us - "You're My Best Friend" by Queen (it was the song that played after we were pronounced husband & wife at our wedding) and "Sweet Thing" by Keith Urban.

CanadaHow did you meet?
Like so many on VJ, my husband and I met on the internet. But I'll back up to give the full story.

My freshman year of college, I went to school just under an hour away from home. I absolutely loved it there. It was a decent sized school, not too big, not too small. My roommate, my classes, and my friends were all amazing. So I did the only logical thing - I transferred to a monstrous university in my hometown. I still don't really know to this day WHY I left the school I was attending. My excuse since I graduated was that the first school I went to didn't have my program, but I hadn't chosen my program at the time I left, so I don't really know. But before I could go to said monstrous, I had to move back home while waiting for my term at the new school to begin in winter quarter. Many of my friends had left home, so I didn't have many people to hang out with, so I started going into Yahoo! hockey chat rooms (I am a HUGE hockey fan).

I started going to the chat room in September of '05, and I got to the point where I was going in there on a nightly basis. There was maybe 10-12 of us who would come in nightly, or at least a few times a week. We got to the point of comfort that we would come in, chat about the days events in hockey, watch hockey and simultaneously chat about the games we were watching. Then, after we'd exhausted the hockey conversation, we would talk about ourselves. Sometimes we would play Jeopardy or other silly things (this was a voice chat room, so we could actually talk to one another).

This pattern continued once I moved to the dorms on campus. I was in the chat room less than before, but I'd still say I was in there 2-3 times a week. It was April 28th, and the NHL playoffs had just began. A friend of mine in the room was using the chat feature to play an old Columbus Blue Jackets vs Vancouver Canucks game over the speakers (he and I are both Jackets fans). Kyle comes into the room, hears the game, and being the good Canadian boy that he is, says "Go Vancouver!" So I decided to send him a PM to explain to him that it was an old game and that my friend was just replaying the game because we were bored and we were both Jackets fans. So we spent the rest of the evening talking about hockey. We talked the next night, and we talked about ourselves and got to know one another. This was the first time that we used our webcams (his typing went to hell when he saw me - he thought I was cute and his fingers couldn't function properly ). A week after we first started talking was my birthday, and he wanted to send me flowers. I gave him the address to my dorm's desk, and that day he sent me a dozen roses! It was the first time any man (other than my dad) had sent me flowers! My roommate (who probably thought I was weird for talking to people on the internet instead of going out and partying) was even impressed.

I decided that I wanted to fly to Calgary (it's the nearest big city to where he lived) and meet him after school was out for the summer. I didn't have anyone to go with me, though. Round trip international flights aren't exactly cheap. But I decided I was going to go for it anyway. I'm actually surprised my parents didn't try to talk me out of it. I flew up there June 8th. I was so nervous to meet him. I was afraid that he wasn't going to like me irl, and I didn't know what I was going to do for the whole week if he didn't. I went through customs, got my bags, and couldn't figure out where to leave to find him, I was so flustered! I finally found the sliding doors, and when they opened, there he was, wearing a Rick Nash (he's the star player of the Blue Jackets) jersey. :luv: We had an awkward hug, left the airport, and got lost in the rain while trying to find our hotel. After one night, we drove back to his hometown, about 3 hours away and spent the rest of the week there. The trip back home after that week was one of the most miserable experience I've had. I flew back up in August, though and spent a month with him at his parents place in BC (he had moved there to save up money since my visit to see him).

CanadaPostcard Exchange!

Thanks for your responses everyone.

I have several meetings today for an animal shelter I volunteer with, so I will not be on the computer much (if anyone expects immediate replies to any questions).

This is the most recent exchange list based on August's draw.

1.* Ant+D+BabyA
2.* Canadiandggal
3.* Christi and Ian
4.* Colleens
5.* coraliesolms
6.* JLovesA
7.* Kathryn41
8.* Kayla*Mathew
9.* kizza
10.* lilacvioletiris
11.* OBX
12.* Pauley
13.* sdw
14.* SupportGeek

There is also Chickaflick, but she has stated that she is unable to participate in September's draw, so the new 'leader' may want to coordinate with her to see if she is ok to come back in going forward. I could also provide the main list of all past participants if you wish, in case anyone wants to follow up to see if people would like to rejoin.

If whoever decides to take this over could please email vjpostcards @ gmail.com, I will be able to get them set up with that email address, and make sure the contact information for the participants is made available to them.

One thing I'd like to note is that this all seems started under the assumption that just one or two people are responsible for all the missing cards thus far. I personally do not think that is the case (at least not by someone who just decided not to send the card on purpose), so perhaps that should be researched by someone who is concerned about this before conclusions are drawn.

Good luck with the exchange going forward.

You forgot me! But I just signed up, lol.

How can I get in on this? And what are the general rules? This is quite a long thread and I didn't want to read 20+ pages to figure out how this may have evolved. It sounds fun though!

Canadato become an american citizen or not
I'm bored & thought I'd throw my two cents in as a USC.

Kyle and I have talked about this issue a few times. His original thought was that he would have to give up his Canadian citizenship to be a USC. But when he found out that he didn't, he was much more receptive. The biggest benefit, of course, is that we would never have to deal with USCIS again! Another thing is that we're both young (under 25) and neither of us are into a full-fledged career, so we may want to move to Canada in a few years - who knows? We want to be able to move to Canada without wasting all of this time and money, so him becoming a citizen makes sense. Also, at their current prices, it would cost more money in the long run for him to stay in the US and keep getting green cards than to just shell out the money to become a citizen.

I would never see him as anything but Canadian. It would just be a choice we make to make life easier down the road for us.
