Thanks for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it. I have not heard a word from him since he told me this news on Monday. I take that as a sign that it is over. I will cancel my K-1 petition.

Evidence of fraud mounts - let's talk about Morocco.

I have a friend from Morocco in my office (female) so I'm not entirely out of my league in saying this.

Morocco is a much more forward-looking and developed country than most Americans would take it to be.

This being said, there are still cultural elements that tend to remain traditional.

According to the single report by the OP, the MALE child is now 11 months old.

That means he would have been born some time in January 2009.

That would have put the physical relationship around April 2008
(refuting some posts accusing him of being with the child's mother
at the same time as the OP).

If you re-read the OP's post, it clearly states that MONEY is required to make things RIGHT.

Wait a minute! - people from Morocco are shaking their heads, saying it may NOT be so much
about money, although money is definitely an issue.

What Moroccan male, having conceived a male child, would not be under pressure from BOTH
families to do the right thing and MARRY the mother?

- apparently no mention of that was made to the OP.

I wonder why?

Moroccan citizens - do you agree or disagree with this?

You're right.....he never did mention anything about having to marry her. It all does sound fishy. I appreciate everyone's advice on here.

I am in love with him, but with the responses to this posting, I'm having doubts about him now. sad.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDevasating News
I am just devasated. We are in the middle of the K-1 process. My fiance has his medical on 12/24 and interview on 1/14. Yesterday the police informed him that a women (ex-girlfriend) has stated that she has a son and he is the father. He went to the hospital and had a test and he said it did prove he was the father. The boy is 11 months old and she just now is coming forward! She wants him to pay. He has no money to pay her. So the police took his passport so he can not leave! I am just crushed.

CanadaA little later than promised... my experience in Montreal!
So, the big event. Let me ramble a bit and hope the details all come through clear enough :)

At 6:35pm on the 14th, I took a VIA Rail train out of Union Station in Toronto and started on my way. Five and a half hours later I'm in Montreal, a place I had not seen since the last time I moved to the states. I took a cab to my hotel... which turned out to be less than 1km away. But it was late and dark so I suppose it was wort the 6 bucks :P I was staying at La Tour Centre-Ville, which the VJ Embassy/Consulate Info page for Montreal will tell you is right across the street from the consulate, and let me tell you... it really is! Well, kind of diagonally across the street, but still just across all the same :) The hotel is nice enough... an apartment building converted into hotel rooms... but I really didn't spend enough time there to go into more detail than that. I checked in at just after midnight and checked back out again at noon.

The next morning I was up and making a pot of coffee around 6:30am. Making sure everything was in order and drinking a cup of coffee took longer than I'd anticipated and I didn't head over to the consulate until close to 7:30... about 20 minutes later than I'd planned. Still, I arrived outside the doors to find only three people ahead of me, so it wasn't so bad. About five minutes later a security guard opened the doors for us and asked me to stand in a different line from the three others. I thought at first this was because they weren't their for interviews, but later on upstairs they pretty much followed the same routine as I did, so I'm really not sure what the separate line was about. Anyway, I went through security which was quick and smooth... the officers were extremely nice and called me ma'am... something that has not happened since I lived in Texas! After I was cleared and had been given a little plastic card with a big letter "C" and "Window #9" written on it, they sent me downstairs to wait by the elevator. I was tempted to stand up and wander near the elevator to see if the mysterious voice would come over the P.A. and ask me to sit down... but I resisted that urge :D Around five minutes later another security officer came and took the four of us up in the elevator and pointed us in the right director for our window (#9). I stood right in front of the window, and felt kind of silly doing so because the other three sat down, but I kept thinking about how I'd read a lot of people on here say "stand at the window, someone will come!" and so I did. Eventually, yes, someone came, but there really was no reason for me to stay standing because the little letter I'd been given downstairs seemed to be what determined my position in line, rather than when I turned in my letter at this window. Speaking of which, that's all that happened at Window #9: the lady behind the glass asked for my interview letter and my little plastic card with "C" on it. Then she told us to go sit in the big waiting room until someone called our name.

So I sat, waited, and wished I'd brought a book like the person in front of me. The wait wasn't too terrible though. They started calling names just after 8:00am. I was called to Window #12 around 8:20 (or maybe 8:30... I should have taken notes!) and there another lady gave me a half sheet of paper, told me to take it to the cashier at window #14, and then to come right back. So I did and waved good-bye to my $100 US :) The cashier attached my receipt to the half sheet of paper and gave it back to me. And back to window #12 I went! There the same lady took the receipt/half sheet back and then proceeded to ask for all my paperwork: My passport, pictures, medical results (during which she informed me that they did not need my x-ray and that it was good for five or six years so I should give it to my doctor once I find one in the states), birth certificate + one copy, my police certificate (and told me "no" when I asked if she wanted a copy as well as the original), the new letter of intent from Brian (and said no again about the copy), the I-134 (and still didn't want a copy, just originals!), my xpresspost envelope (and she asked me if I'd filled it out and made note of my tracking number, which thankfully I had!), my DS-156K (again, she didn't want a copy). She also attached my pictures to my forms and then whited out my signature/date from the DS-156s that I'd previously mailed in and asked me to sign them again in front of her. Then she asked me about my previous green card. She wanted to know what I'd done with it... and this is where I did the stupidest thing ever that had me panicking right up until the interview! See, I still have my old green card. It's useless, but I never got rid of it... it's in a file somewhere in a box in the back of a closet. I'd meant to bring it with me to the interview, but I forgot it! I didn't realise I'd forgotten it until she asked about it! And then the stupidity: instead of saying "I still have it but I forgot to bring it with me" ... for some idiotic reason the words "I destroyed it" came out of my mouth. I think I must have panicked at the thought that maybe not having it with me would delay things... I wish I could have stopped myself from doing that! Anyway, she didn't seem overly pleased with this statement. She repeated my words back to me as a question, to which I blurted out "I was only 19 when I came back to Canada and I didn't know what I was supposed to do with it". And I guess that satisfied her because she made a little note on my paperwork and didn't say anything else. But I was still scared I'd just screwed up!

After that little hitch, the lady then asked me to take a seat while she turned in my paperwork and said she'd be back to take my fingerprints. So I sat... waited... and watched two other people get their fingerprints taken, and then it was my turn. I go back up to the window and the lady says "Is your father William Franklin Harvey?" to which I reply "yes". Then she says, "Oh, I have his case here in front of me." With no other explanation at all, which was kind of odd. My only guess is that she pulled up his old case to see if I was mentioned at all (for those who don't know, my father went through this lovely process when I was 16 because my step-mother is from Texas. I moved with him, but did not go through the usual K-2 process, I was paroled into the country instead.). Then she took my fingerprints and said to go back to the waiting room and wait for my name to be called again.

So I sat down again and waited... and looked out at the skyline (you can see the Biodome from up there!). And I watched as the three people from before me in line were called to the interview room. Then, around 9:30, over the P.A. system comes a man saying "Amy Harvey, door number 8 please". For one brief second I had this image of a game show and someone asking me to guess what was behind door number 8! :D Anyway, I went in and found myself in a tiny square of a room with a window separating me from the consular officer. He was an older gentleman who seemed very pleasant and was nowhere near as intimidating as his voice was over the P.A. system! He asked me how I was doing and then told me he was going to verify my fingerprints and asked me to place my left thumb on a little digital reader. Once that was done, I took the oath swearing that everything I was about to say was true and so forth. He then proceeded to fiddle around with an elastic band that was attached to a paper clip for a couple minutes... attempting to get the elastic off the paperclip. He muttered something like "more trouble than it's worth" and then broke the elastic, used the paperclip to attach my receipt to my original birth certificate, and then handed those back to me through the slot under the window. It was rather amusing and by that point I was 100% relaxed, even despite previous worries over what I'd said about my green card. He gave me my DS-156K and asked me to sign it. Then he flipped through my paperwork and asked me a few questions such as "how did you meet?" "What does your fiance do for a living?" "What do you do for a living?" and "What are you plans for the wedding?". Then he flipped through the paperwork again, stopping at my police certificate and says "Well, the law says you're not a criminal", then he flips to my medical and says "and the doctors say you're healthy", then flips to Brian's letter of intent and says "And your fiance still wants to marry you!" To which I just say "I'm glad" :). Then he says "you've been in the states before!" and I told him that I'd moved there with my father. He asked how my father ended up there and kind of laughed when he realised my dad went through the same thing. And that was it! He didn't mention my old green card at all, much to my relief! And then he said "Well, everything here is in order so we're going to approve this for you" and told me it could be up to 10 days before I receive the visa in the mail. I say thank you very much and leave! I glance at the clock on my way out and it's just after 9:45am.

All I can really say for those of you heading to Montreal yourselves in the coming months is: you're in for a treat! :D Compared to the rest of this journey, the interview really is the best part! Also: try to think before you say things! Save yourself some panic and don't blurt out things like "I destroyed my green card" if you really didn't! I am so lucky that it didn't come back to haunt me!

And, as a last bit of good news, I checked the Canada Post website and Montreal sent my visa out in the mail this morning! That was FAST! :D

I used to work across the street from the headquarters in Oakville and would get my coffee every morning from the shop there! biggrin.gif

Also, the Timmie's are most definitely still in Ohio! I've been twice so far and, while they're not the same as in Canada, it's been pretty decent. I have got to keep reminding myself to order a medium instead of my usual large though since the sizes are different here! Everything's moved up a size basicallly... We're in a similar situation.

Our petition was approved by CSC on September 12/06 and the NVC has yet to receive it. We've been back and forth with phone calls, faxes, and letters to the NVC, CSC, and the Customer Service Line. We've had the same results... NVC saying they don't have it and to contact CSC... the Customer Service Line trying to tell us that the petitions go directly to the Consulate (which is a lie, basically). CSC ignored our letters all together. NVC said they couldn't do anything and it's now been 90 days.

Brian contacted his congresswoman's office last night and they're being extremely helpful. Said they've dealt with this same situation quite a few times and that if he e-mailed our information to their immigration specialist, she'd look into it for us. Apparently they have a liason at the CSC. So we have our fingers crossed that this will find our missing paperwork.

That's pretty much the best advice that can be given... contact your congressman and or senators office. See if they can do anything for you!
Amy and BrianFemaleCanada2006-12-13 12:28:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC hasn't received our approval from CSC yet
Brian contacted his congresswoman's office a few days ago and she was very nice and willing to help. They have an immigrantion specialist working in the office and aparently have dealt with this exact situation before. She had Brian e-mail all our details to the specialist and told him that they would look into it for us, I think she claimed they have some sort of liason at CSC.

So... we'll see how this goes.
Amy and BrianFemaleCanada2006-12-14 12:02:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC hasn't received our approval from CSC yet

Well, ya it's really frustrating. A lady from NVC told us to send them a copy of our approval, so they can check it with CSC, and we did that. She said they will send us a letter stating they haven't received our approval, and i think she said they will mail the same letter to CSC. Maybe you can do that too.

That's part of the "running in circles" bit we've already been through. We sent the NVC a copy of our NOA2 and they kindly sent us back a letter saying they did not have our case. It was never mentioned that they would be contacting CSC at all. In fact, we were told that until 90 days had passed, the NVC could not do anything else for us. 90 days is up now and Brian's supposed to be calling NVC again today, but I really don't foresee anything happening other than them telling us they still don't have it.

We'll be getting Brian's Congresswoman or Senator or somesuch involved shortly, I'm sure. Because this back-and-forth nonsense with no straight answer from either end is ridiculous.
Amy and BrianFemaleCanada2006-12-11 14:23:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC hasn't received our approval from CSC yet
Our petition was approved on Sept 12th and the NVC still has yet to receive our paperwork. We've been running in circles between CSC and NVC in an attempt to figure out what's going on.

Someone on the Misinformation Line tried to tell us that our case was sent directly to the consulate, but our NOA2 did not state that, it specifically said it was going to the NVC first.

It's all rather frustrating.

I agree, Lay's Ketchup are definitely the ones to go for!

And, MarilynP, All Dressed? Is that really not available either? I was trying to think if I'd had them when I lived in Texas, but I can't recall at all. Thank goodness for parents, eh? :P

When I lived in Texas as a teenager, the one thing from Canada I missed most of all was ketchup chips (I wasn't old enough to have established my Tim Horton's habit yet). They just do not exist there! I worked at a grocery store and once asked our chip distributor guy about it and all I got was an odd look ;) Luckily my parents were nice enough to bring me back some after they took a trip up north for a wedding.

CanadaTim Horton's

Seeing how I turned a coffee thread into a food fight, and now a "don't diss my beer, hockey team or Country" thread, I have a question for all you proud (and rightfully so) Canadians. (1) For those of ya'll (me being a very Southern boy) who move into the States or have already done so, will you continue or do you still use those unnecessary letters of the alphabet (namely "U") in commonly spoken words (ie. colour, neighbour, flavour, etc.)? (2) If you have school aged children who are now attending school in the States, are they marked incorrectly for this spelling? (3) Will "out and about" still be pronounced "oot and aboot"?

I can mix a little of all of that into one. I lived in Texas for three years and had my last two years of high school down there. Colour remained colour, same with neighbour, and flavour. As did centre and theatre (unless referring to a proper noun). And yes, I was marked incorrectly on several essays during my 12th grade English class because of this. I managed to talk my way back into proper marks most of the time, though usually I had to give in and change the spelling. However, the really sad thing is that it was a British Lit course :P And yes, my pronunciation of words such as "out" and "about" stayed the same. Though I still insist it does not sound like oot or aboot. Besides, Texan's add an extra syllable into those words that I just could never comprehend :D It was also brought to my attention that I say "sorry" differently than Texans as well *shrug* It got to a point when anyone new found out where I was from, the first thing I would do is say "Yes, I'm from Canada. About, out, doubt, and sorry. That should cover it."

I made a real effort not to acquire a Texan accent while living there (thankfully the general accent in cities like Houston are no where near as thick as in the rural areas, I doubt I could have avoided it there). I did, however, come away from the south with a weird sort of inflection/rhythm to my speaking that everyone back in Canada loved to point out to me. It used to confuse people a lot too, I once had an Irish woman ask me if I was from Ireland because of it... apparently Canadian+Texan=Irish? It's mostly gone now (I've been back in Canada for almost four years now), but after a conversation with any of my friends/family in Texas it usually comes back for a few hours.

Luckily, once this K-1 process is done with, I'll be moving somewhere far more North than Texas and thus will likely not acquire any more strange additions to my way of speaking :D

CanadaBoth Parents names on birth certificate?
I believe the requirement is only that you submit your long form birth certificate. People often mention both parents being listed as a way of distinguishing between the long form and the short form types of certificates. As long as it is your official long form birth certificate, I really don't think it matters that only one parent is listed. As you said, there are probably plenty of other people with only one parent listed for various reasons.

CanadaCanada post - is the tracking up to date?
If I remember correctly (used to work at a postal outlet), Xpresspost is a 2-3 business day service. Key phrase being "business day". Assuming it actually LEFT the postal outlet/mailbox on the 12th (that depends on the time of day you mailed it) then I imagine it will be delivered today or possibly tomorrow. As previously stated, Canada Post has both Good Friday and Easter Monday off, so those won't be considered business days.

Edited to add: I just saw your signature says "next day"... I guess my memory isn't as good as I thought :D Either that, or I'm just getting mixed up with Xpresspost USA, which is what I used recently to send stuff from here in Canada to my fiance in the US.

CanadaCanadians getting Driver Licence
When I moved to Texas at age 16, I had my Ontario G1 and they let me trade it in for a learner's permit without having to take the written test or anything. I did have to surrender my G1 to the Texas DMV though. Three years later, when I returned to Canada with a full Texas DL, I almost had some issues trading it in at the MTO. They wanted to give me a G2 instead of of full G because I had had my Texas DL for less than two years. I was a bit pissed because I really had no desire to take a driving test again as those things make me rather nervous. Lucky for me, when the lady at the MTO printed out my temp license (to use until the actual card was mailed to me) it gave me full G status and when she questioned her supervisor about it he said that if the computer says I get a G, then I get a G! :D

Of course, if figures I've not used the darn thing for anything other than ID up here as my car didn't come with me from Texas. And with that, I'm off to look up DMV information for Ohio. *crosses fingers* I really hope they'll let me trade in my DL so I don't have to take a driving test again!

It's funny really. Brian (the USC) is already a hockey fan and plays the game too. Whereas I, born and raised Canadian, don't mind watching the sport but am not really a huge fanatic. Go figure :P

CanadaCanada Day Party

my Mum bought that one for my hubby when our original plan was to move to Canada. Its pretty funny.

I'm going home for Canada Day tho, there's an LoTR convention in Toronto that weekend, with fireworks by Gandalf and a party and everything! :)

A LotR con in Toronto?! Oooh, must have details! I am so uninformed, it's ridiculous :D

CanadaCanada Pension
I think if you have a legit job and you're under 18 they will take the CPP from each pay as usual, but you do get most/all of it back once you file your taxes. Thus, you didn't really contribute to CPP.

I'm probably way off on this though because I really have no accurate concept of how all the taxes/contributions/etc. work here in Canada. I was living in Texas when I first started working at 18 and my brain kind of got stuck in that mode despite having now lived/worked in Canada for the past four years.

CanadaAnyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?
Well, really, you don't have to be a Canadian citizen to visit Canada.

No clue how it all works, but back when I was an LPR (man... I hate reminding myself of that :crying: ) I went to visit family in Canada for Christmas and I just used my green card both ways. It seems silly now, but at the time it never crossed my mind to use my Canadian passport to enter Canada. I wonder, if Canada has similar rules to the US (that you have to enter the country as a citizen), then why would people have been successful in crossing the border with just the green card?

Edited to add: You know what? I just pulled out the good ol'green card. It states your country of birth right on it... so if you're a Canadian citizen by birth, maybe that's got something to do with it being accepted. *shrug*
