I'm an older guy, maybe they felt bad about leaving me out in the sun! I really don't know how i was able to go in but I did see a lot of people waiting outside. It was ready the next day like they said. It will still be a couple of months before she can come here but the hard part is over. Buena Suerte and let me know how it goes. Glad I could help in some way.

Hi Claudia,
We arrived separately on Monday afternoon. I flew into El Paso and took a cab to the Holiday Inn, then a couple of hours later took the hotel shuttle to the Juarez airport and picked up my fiancee. We took a cab back to the hotel and had dinner at Barriga's next door. Great food, service and atmosphere. We ate there every night. We would recommend the Holiday Inn. Clean. Helpful staff. Security. Free breakfast. Free Happy Hour Tues-Fri. Nice 2.5 star hotel. We felt completely safe there.

Tuesday morning we were up early and walked to the CMI clinic. We arrived at 6:15. The guard told me I would probably be waiting for a couple of hours so I walked back to the hotel. At 7:40, my fiancee called and said she was finished and on her way back to the hotel. By the time I got the elevator and went downstairs, she was coming in the front door.

She said the process was very well organized. They ask for her passport and appointment letter, address in Juarez or the hotel name and room number, and phone. They took her picture and gave her a wristband with barcode and a card with a barcode.

Once you begin, they scan the barcode and give you a printout of process. That travels with you and they put the different test results on the printout…Blood, vision, physical exam in private room (you are asked to strip naked and given a paper hospital gown), asked about any contagious diseases in your life, broken bones, scars, look for tattoos, ask if you are diabetic, hypertensive. Measure height, weight. Then they ask you to get dressed from the waist down and they take you for a chest xray. She had a front and side xray done - but the other people she saw only had a front xray. For K-1 (no vaccinations), you finish getting dressed and go to cashier. She was told to come back at 2:00 for the results.

Oh yeah, males and females are separated, including children from their parents (not infants). Also, if kids need vaccinations, they will not give them until the parent is present. Kids do not have to strip naked, only to their underwear, and they will not let kids leave the clinic alone.

We walked across the street to the Banamex at the mall. This is the part that pissed me off. If you have pesos, pay the fee in pesos. You will pay the equivalent of $350 in pesos. However, if you have dollars, they will first sell you pesos at the day’s rate, then charge you the fee at the buy rate, so I ended up paying $388. They used a rate of 13 to the dollar. They won’t take dollars.

When we returned to the clinic at 2:00 to pick up the results, they did not have hers. She went inside and was told that there was something on her lung that they needed to check. They wanted to have an ultrasound done to determine if what they were looking at was liquid in her lung. They scheduled an appointment for her at 4:30 at a radiology clinic about 15 minutes away by taxi. The doctor met us there, did the test, made a CD and a report. It took less than an hour, and we had to pay separately for the ultrasound. We were told to come back to CMI the next morning at 7:00.

So, the next morning we got up and went to the clinic. She was told that everything was fine, that the area they were looking at on her lung was just scar tissue from an old automobile injury where a broken rib had abraded the lung. They needed some time to complete her report with these new results so we went to Denny’s to eat breakfast and then back to the clinic. A little after 9:00 she had her medical envelope and CD and we headed for the consulate. We’ll add here that everyone at the clinic was very professional and courteous. Additionally, they were conscious of her appointment time (even though we had an open appointment). They wanted to make sure she was out of the clinic in time to get into the consulate the second day as originally planned.

It took us from about 9:15 to 9:30 to wait in line to get inside the consulate and go through airport style security. They are serious about the list of things you can’t take in, so leave everything but your documents and ID at the hotel. At the end of security, your ID is entered and you are given a number. We were told where to go wait - behind one of the buildings they had a covered outdoor waiting area, with huge ceiling fans and water mist that actually did a very nice job of keeping the area comfortable. You sit there and watch a flatscreen monitor that displays your number and the window you should report to. We saw numbers from 1 into the 7000’s and it made little sense to us. At first it was confusing because we would see a number, for example 5113 -> 55, and 20 minutes later see 5113 -> 63. Eventually we figured out that the same screen is being displayed inside, and as people move from one step to the next, their number gets put back up on the screen.

Eventually our number came up (after waiting about an hour and 15 min) and we went inside. There was still someone at the window we were supposed to go to but we did not have to wait long. We stepped up to the window. The Greeter was very nice and asked for the DS 156. She basically went through the list of required documents, original birth certs and divorce decrees. We had forgotten to bring the letter of intent to marry (though we had already each provided one with the 129F). She said no problem and filled one out with my name and handed it through the window for my fiancée to sign. We had front-loaded the 129F petition with relationship stuff and we were not asked for anything else. She asked for proof of financial support and I gave the I-134. She said that was fine. I had all the other stuff - bank statements, letter from employer, letter from bank, mortgage, house appraisal, tax returns, check stubs, w2s, etc but she didn’t ask for any of it. She saw the 134, pointed and said that will do. After signing the 156 and 156K and something else, we were told to wait to be called for fingerprinting. We waited about 5 minutes for that. My fiancée was fingerprinted then we sat back down and waited another 15 or 20 minutes for the interview. As we waited, we could see that some people were rejected because they did not go to the DHL line after their interview, but rather just left looking very upset and in some cases, crying.

Those 20 minutes were long, waiting, knowing that the interview was next. She felt confident she could answer anything they asked, but you still never know what it’s going to be like. We talked and laughed and just kept our mind off things. Then her name was called to another window. We got up and went over. There was a US officer there with our file in front of him. He was very polite. Here are the questions he asked:
How long have you known each other? Over 4 years
So, you work for xxx company in yyy city? No, I work for xxx company in zzzz city (trick question)
What do you do there?
Have you ever been married? No
Do you have any children? No
Ever had any problems with the police? No
Ever had any problems with immigration or been denied a visa? No
Do you have your B1/B2 visa? Yes (handed through the window)
OK - here is the DHL form. Take it to the next line and you should be able to pick up your visa in the morning.

So that was it! We were walking back to the hotel by 12:00 noon. It helps if you are prepared. I can’t tell you not to worry. Only you know if you have everything in its proper state of affairs, and even though we reviewed everything the night before, we still forgot that damn letter of intent to marry!

I would advise anyone to frontload their 129F petition as much as they can, otherwise they can expect a longer interview. We had everything in there already for proof of ongoing relationship - photos, phone records, frequent flyer statements, emails, passport stamps. We didn’t have to provide anything extra, even though we had it ready.

It’s generally safe there. You’ll see patrols occasionally. Don’t go for a walk after dinner and don’t go out after dark. Be careful but remember why you are there. Good luck!

Hi,
Just to reiterate, the letter you received is what Ciudad Juarez considers to be packet 3. I don't have my letter in front of me, but the link they refer you to is one of these two links (I think the letter refers you to the forms page, but read them both, and do what they say). You have an open appointment, so once you have everything in order, just show up for the medical, and then go to the consulate the next day. You can pay the banamex fee at any banamex in Mexico (in case you don't want to go to the bank in CDJ). Make sure you take that letter with you.

Here are the links...good luck! I'll be traveling this time next week to CDJ to meet my fiancee. We're going to the medical on Tue.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 medical exam
Teff,
Having returned from CDJ last week, I can directly answer your question. Your fiance must take a medical exam in CDJ, at one of the two clinics next to the consulate. No exceptions. What he does NOT have to have are the vaccinations. K-1 applicants do not have to have the vaccinations in order to get the K-1 visa. However, they will have to have the vaccinations for the adjustment of status (AOS). So, medical exam in CDJ=Yes. Vaccinations in CDJ=NO.

From what I understand, the medical exam taken at CDJ is good for the AOS (for a year), however he will still need the vaccination records to submit for the AOS. We haven't gone that far yet and I'm still trying to find a Civil Surgeon here that won't charge an arm and a leg.

No checks for anything. A visa, mastercard, dollars or pesos will work for the medical. I would definitely already have pesos for the Banamex fee. I got ripped off paying in dollars - it cost me $388. Make sure you have 8 dollars US for the DHL fee. Hope this helps. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQUESTIONS ON FORM DS-156
I think for work and study, they do not care so much for the DS-156 if you are filing a K-1. The DS-156 is a standard department of state non-immigrant visa application used for multiple visa classifications. In fact, my fiance left those two questions blank on purpose because she had the basically the same questions as you. She was expecting to answer them in the interview but she was never asked!

Yes,, you'll need a copy of your birth certificate. They will take the original but give it back, and they'll keep the copy. As for Scotia bank, I would venture to say that the US government accounts in Canada are with Scotia. That is why. Good Luck on Tuesday!

Just be sure to arrive during the daylight. If you are arriving from El Paso, it takes about 45 minutes, with a quick stop at the border on the Mexican side. Coming back to El Paso from any of the hotels near the consulate you need to allow about 2.5 hours, and sitting in line in traffic at the border isn't so fun, but it's generally OK.

If you are the USC, you can't go into the medical. You have to wait on the sidewalk. If you don't mind pickups with mounted machine-guns and troops in the back patrolling every 20 minutes or so, then you should be fine. I just think they are magnets for attention. If your fiance(e) is applying for a K1, the USC will have to wait outside the consulate.

The alternative is to walk your fiance(e) to the medical/consulate and then return to the hotel to wait. There are several just a two minute walk... Holiday Inn, Microtel and others.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affidavit of Support

Here's some more reading on this issue.

http://digital.libra...531/metacrs461/

I really have no dog in this fight, as we are beyond that stage. I can just offer two things...first Ciudad Juarez took my I-134, and nothing else - no supporting documentation, of which I had everything. They asked for the form only. That was last month. But, it is true that their instructions only say that the USC must provide proof of solvency.

The second thing I would offer is that none of the links to threads or off-site PDFs are relevant to the current revision. The most recent reference (2007) cited is a year older than the previous I-134 revision (Oct '08), with the most recent revision being May '10. I'm thinking I read somewhere that with the previous revision the I-134 did become legally binding.

I'm really only interested in what's true, so I just hope that what I had to offer here helped. What happened at CDJ doesn't count as true or not true. It's just what happened :)

No one can answer your question with any degree of accuracy because you don't say what kind of visa. Since you mention the I-134, maybe you are talking about a K-1 Fiance(e) visa. If that is indeed the case, it will be the consulate in Ciudad Juarez you need to look in to, since they are the only one that issues Fiance(e) visas.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS 156 necessary for K-1 visa

According to thr Juarez portal where my finacee and I will be having our interview, the DS156 form is required. This form is only avialable online but everytime I fill it it out and try to click continue to go to the nwxt stage it blanks out. Does anyone know if this form is actually required for K-1 applications and if so how to get the form to work on properly on the Dept of State website? Thanks.

The DS156 is DEFINITELY required. Try to fill it out then use File Print when you are done with the last field. Don't try to save it or continue. It won't work. Otherwise just print it out and fill it in by hand.

As far as the DS160 goes, it does not apply to K-1 visas. The London site is not clear on that, DoS is very clear here: http://travel.state....forms_4401.html

13. When I apply for a nonimmigrant visa using the online DS-160, are additional forms required?
No, with two exceptions. When applying at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate that is using the new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, you will use only one (1) form. For Embassies and Consulates that have converted to this new process, the DS-160 has replaced all of the following forms: DS-156, DS-157, DS-158, and DS-3032, which are no longer necessary.
NOTE: The exceptions are Fiancé(e) Visas (K-1/2) which still require use of the forms DS-156 and DS-156K, and the Treaty Trader/Treaty Investor visa application, which is explained in #14 below.

I would take the trouble to fill out the I-134. I know the CDJ instructions tell you specifically that the I-864 is not required, but they are silent on the I-134. I had everything you have (except work id), plus the I-134. They only asked for the I-134. It's easy to fill out and consolidates everything on one form. CDJ has so many people working there you never know what to expect. It's easy for them to be inconsistent and maybe they are on purpose! Better to be prepared with everything you can think of than not to have the one piece of paper they ask for!

Taxi from the airport will be fine. It's only 10-15min. You pay inside the airport at a kiosk, so virtually no risk there. Cost is around 70 pesos. He should be fine. The Holiday Inn has a free shuttle to the airport but is not allowed to pickup at the airport.

Hi. The CDJ consulate will send the open invitation letter to both the petitioner and the beneficiary by regular mail only. You can use either copy to get into the medical and the consulate because the only difference between the two is the mailing address. The beneficiary's name and case number appear on both, and those are the important things. Mail in Mexico can be slow, so don't worry if you don't have the beneficiary's copy.

As far as the new address goes, just make sure you put that on the DS-156 for your current address in Mexico. And, as Keka said, the petitioner's financial status is the important one. If the beneficiary is unemployed, it's not an issue.

For the forms and instructions, go here:

Thank you. The reason why I am concerned is because I jumped the gun and booked a flight to Cuidad Juarez on 09/19/10. I just want to find out if they have it and when they send packet 3 out with the invitation letter. I did not want to book the flight last minute because it would be more expensive.

Just so you're not expecting something else .... the invitation letter IS packet 3. A single sheet of paper. It will just tell you to go here http://ciudadjuarez....ianceforms.html , download and complete the forms, and show up when you are ready.

BTW, I think your mid-sept date gives you plenty of time. Your letter should show up in a week or so.

Does anyone know if the NVC sends the visa packet by DHL to Cuidad Juarez? If so, does the NVC give you the DHL tracking number. I am trying to find out if Cuidad Juarez has my K1 visa petition. I called the Dept of Sate and the NVC and all they told me is that it was sent out to Cuidad Juarez on 07/26/10. It has been three weeks since they shipped it.

The NVC doesn't give you a tracking number. It's probably a certainty that CDJ has had the package for 3 weeks. They probably got it before you received the NVC letter. From the time you get the letter from the NVC assigning the CDJ number until the open appointment letter comes is around a 4-6 weeks. You won't hear anything from anybody until then. The appointment letter is sent to the USC petitioner and the beneficiary via REGULAR MAIL, so in all likelihood the USC will get it first, as regular mail in Mexico is generally slower than in the US.

As an aside, I tried to get information by calling all the CDJ phone numbers with different credit cards (everything from a debit card, mastercard and amex) and none of the cards would accept the per-call charges. You can try that or maybe someone else had better luck calling CDJ and can offer additional advice.

Not for a K-1. The DS-230 is for Immigrant Visas. The K-1 is actually a non-immigrant visa, even though it 'feels' like an immigrant visa. A fiancee is not a 'done deal', hence USCIS is hedging.

Oh yes Thank you i read it. Now I understand. so why did you guys wait two months? i guess it takes a long time to get all that info together right? im already getting as much together as i can,

also i noticed on the juarez k1 section it notes you must have plain (passport style photos). but arent those the same as the ones I sent in theI-129f petition package...and what happens to all the info and pics in the package? are they sent to the consulate or to me or to my fiance?

We didn't wait two months. You cannot show up without the appointment letter and I didn't get my copy until May 21, she got hers a week later. So, it's taken us about 3 weeks to agree on a date to go there because I was at conferences and my daughter's graduation. We could have tried to go right away, but we would have paid an arm and leg for airfare. And, yes it has given us time to pull together everything, including additional proof of relationship and support stuff.

The photos you have to get done again, either there or a couple of days before. We're going to avoid the streets as much as possible so she's getting new photos and paying the Banamex fee tomorrow in Guadalajara.

All the info that you sent with the petition gets sent to the consulate. You (he) should have an identical copy with him when he goes for the interview because that's one of the places they can get specific questions to ask him. We are going to have an exact duplicate of the I129F petition package, as well as everything they ask for. In the end, we'll have identical personal copies of the I129 petition submission and the interview documentation submitted.

Does all that make sense?

I'll add a couple more things...Regarding Mexico city, the travel.state.gov link above has a dropdown list for you to choose the first three letters of the applicant’s NVC case number. I don't know what Mexico City might be, but it's not MEX and there are no other Mexican cities in the list besides CDJ. Hence my comment about Mexico City.

Secondly, the Steps to Obtaining a K Visa page that I mentioned you could look at at your leisure has some VERY WRONG information in Step 5. You should ignore that completely. I asked about it earlier today in the K1 forum. 'Advanced Parole' is in the title. Several people responded with great comments right away.

Congratulations on the petition approval! Like I said...soon! I would be surprised though if your fiance had to go to Mexico City. I could be mistaken but I think CDJ is the only place in Mexico that processes the K-1. It would have been closer for us too (Guadalajara). You will know for sure when you get the NVC letter. Maybe someone else can chime in.
