US Citizenship General DiscussionGren card expiration ex-military
What waiver?

The Military would have required evidence of legal status, so dig that out.

Otherwise I agree with the prior poster, if his ast one has expired he needs to get a new one, the indefinite ones if he still has it will probably be OK once for a visit, he is likely to be just told to get a 10 year one on re-entry.

The process is similar, there is talk about "earning" ctiizenship in the UK, which could speed up the process for some.

Should the situation arise my wife is likely to go for it, having auto acess to EU is seen as a big plus.

Boiler - 7 months from NOA = 11 months+ for full process from application date in my own case, after waiting more than 4 months to have cheque cashed. It depends where you start counting. I can't believe that it would take a further 16-18 months from NOA, not when I see some people who applied at the same time as me (and after) having interview scheduled already.

NOA to TSC 26 July 2007
Cheque cashed 19 Nov 2007
NOA 26 Nov 2007
Fingerprinting done 17 Dec 2007

After what step they send the file to local center?.How many steps are in Citizenship process?I'll be applying in coming may.I hope they will clear the backlog of june and july by that time.

No chance, and for the process

Well you can only apply for Citizenship 2 years and 9 months after your CPR.

So you have a long way to go, who knows what the timelines will be then. May be a lot less than my current 18 months assumption.

7 months seems good I was worrying that It might not go to 12- 18months If I apply in coming may.Our I-751 is also lagging by almost 12 months. This type of situations creates concerns when travelling abroad

I am assuming 12 months for the 751 and 18 months or Citizenship, 7 months would be odd, very odd.

Concerns for travelling? Unless you have serious issues why you might be refused entry as a PR, no difference, but then if you have that is a whole diferent situation.

You quoted the wrong question, try 15.

From the latest USCIS N-400 download:

15. Have you ever committed a crime or offense for which you were not arrested?

Is that what you mean?

Kind of self incriminating, isn't it? I assume that also means, not getting caught.

Exactly, where would you start?

An impossible question to answer, well fully, in English law that would rule it out, but US law is another matter.

We gained Freedom from England, as a result of the revolutionary war. There was some help from france.

We GAVE freedom to France, during WWI and WWII, after France caved in to Germany in practically record time.

Thanks Guys for all your answers.

My question was about the legality of leaving without a US passport, which has been thoroughly answered here thankyou so much.

I do remember leaving for holidays before obviously on my UK passport, but they have always asked for my greencard as well. Is it actually possible that they physically wouldnt let you leave without being able to show either greencard or US passport. ?

Nick D in answer to your last question, I do want to come back at some point, and as mentioned I was curious about the legality of it I suppose.

thanks for your responses

Odd

I have never heard of anybody been asked for a GC when leaving, I never have. They just need to make sure you are going to be let in where you are going.

Certainly have when coming back.

The evidence you used to get the conditions removed on your greencard is good enough for your Citizenship application. You do not need to be on the utility bills or on the deeds. My Wife is not named on any utility bills or on the mortgage and she had no issues at the Citizenship interview.

Yikes, I didn't realize this kind of question was going to be asked for my future husband. He's from the UK and like a majority of his country, thinks gun control is extremely important and that Americans are too gun-happy.

I'm inclined to agree, especially with a Constitution that has amendments for a reason...

Now, I come from a strong military family and my dad is a colonel, so I very much support our troops, especially as they put their lives in danger for our country. It's more about Congress that I wouldn't agree with who have the power to involve the U.S. in wars, but I guess there's no stopping them except for voting them out.

*sigh*

Gun control in the UK is only an issue if you want to own one legally, illegally not a problem.

I prefer the US system. Gives you a chance.

Please stop jacking threads. This is not about gun control. Your off-topic snide comments to people are all over this board. There are plenty of places on the internet for what you are looking for. People have politely asked you to stop, so please stop.

Actually, she mentioned gun control first. As NickD pointed out, the Oath statement about bearing arms has absolutely nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. But when you start talking about morals of bearing arms, these 2 subjects mix and I was partially guilty in taking this thread somewhat offtopic by making comments about Right to bear arms. However, it was Justine+David who mentioned gun control first, so don't scream at Boiler just because you disagree with his statement and agree with hers. We see enough of this tactic in congress and media, it's really not cool

I wasn't making any kind of statement regarding his opinions, only that they be given context to immigration issues. She was voicing concern about the oath and giving it context to her future husband in Britain, he was making a comment about gun control laws.

Boiler made another comment on a forum about someone discussing the demise of their international marriage with "Just sounds like another latin marriage"

This had me thinking: if the U.S. home-front situation got so bad that it required civilians to carry guns (would this be just the naturalized citizens? As a born American, I've never taken any kind of oath), we'd have to be in the poops of the poop for wartime on our own home soil and in that case we'd probably all just be obliterated by nuclear bombs...

I can not see it ever happening, well in my life time.

The ony country I know that has his sort of ordinance is Switzerland, and that is a very different situation.

It was mentioned in the recent Afghanistan debate that it is costing $1m pa a person to deploy exta forces, and to some extent this is voluntary, I just can not see a need for a mass armed forces, or the ability to afford it.
