CanadaMy interview experience
Im sorry you didn't get your visa today Ali, but as others have said, it seems like it won't be too hard to get the paperwork they want.

You are so close! almost there!
Good luck with the rest.

It’s not clear how many immigration applicants who claimed the building as an address gained entry into Canada.

They are probably too embarrassed to say!

Biko was in his awkward puppy stage - around 7 months old.

CanadaThanks guys...

Maybe he thinks god only lets popular people into heaven...

My future BIL is going on 600 fb friends but has no one to go have a beer with.

Its sad really.

CanadaThanks guys...
Heheh! I love facebook!

Dont worry! most people I know (me included) went nuts the first month we got on fb...
But after a while it stops interfering so much with your real life!

my fiancé used to make fun of me and my addiction, until he got his own account.

CanadaHow close/far away are/were you from your American/Canadian significant other?

Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me.

I love the Plain White T's. :)

:) I love that song!
Now I have it in my head YAY!

For me I have to take a 3-hour flight to Ottawa, then I can drive or fly to Detroit. It's not cheap, either. Round trip flights from Iqaluit to Ottawa run at approximately $1300.

I cant believe how pricey that is!
You can find a deal to go to Australia for that.

Fun poll!

We have over 3000 km between us.
About 30 hours on the road.

CanadaMore name issues

Hopefully you don't have problems like I did! But if you do, I'm armed with information now!

And, just to add, I only had an Ontario G2 license and they transferred it to a full state license. Not even a written test was required.

Oh good! I was wondering about that...
I did the exam 15+ years ago, and I was thinking how embarrassing it would be if they made me take an exam again and I failed!!

CanadaMore name issues

Ok, this is the last time I'm going to revive this thread! I promise!

So, I went to one of Colorado's S.A.V.E centers today. I decided not to go to the big one in the Denver metro because its always so busy, and instead went about 2 hours south to small town Pueblo, CO. My husband works there every Wednesday so it made sense to tag along. The lady at the counter took all of my information and then proceeded to tell me I didn't exist in her computer. That was really reassuring! Then she admitted she didn't know what she was doing and got her supervisor to run my information. After about 15 minutes they called me back up to the window and said they cleared me, on the spot, no waiting required this time!

So, long story short, I got my CO state license today :) And believe it or not, it took longer than my entire AOS journey  But I have it now and its valid until 2015! So good riddance DMV.

Oh! so glad to see they finally sorted it out! :)
What an ordeal.

Thanks for the info... I'll have a heads up if the DMV in Colorado gives me the same issues!

He looooves it and loves researching it for months before making a purchase.
So I trust his judgement.

CanadaCanadian Guilt?

No. No guilt it all -- there are proven reasons as to why some consulates are more difficult to get through than others -- I feel bad for innocent people getting caught in that quagmire, but it exists for a reason. ANd it's not like getting our visa as Canadians is a total cake walk either.

So no. No guilt here and that's odd for me as a lapsed catholic....
:)

Exactly!

And there are people from my group of filers who's fiances are already done with the process and arriving in the US (from countries that are considered relatively high-fraud), while Im still waiting on my NOA2.
Bad luck on my part... but regardless, even if I had gotten my NOA2 at the same time as everybody else, there is no way I'd even be scheduled for an interview in Mtl right now.
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-02-04 10:29:00
CanadaCanadian Guilt?

No. Not in the least.

Indeed, I'm of the mind that it could / should be even easier for two first-world nations that have such a close allegiance.

I'm reminded of the situation in Australia and New Zealand -- two completely distinct countries, separated by a 1500 mile sea, yet they have a "Trans-Tasman Agreement" that allows a citizen of one to live and work freely in the other, with adequate documentation. I'd love to see something like that between Canada and the United States, though I am well aware that there is virtually no likelihood of that happening in this day and age.

Totally agree with you Wyatt!

Same thing can be said of travelling in the European Union with a EU passport.

CanadaPatriotic Tattoo

I love my tattoo, its a Canadian Beacon. People always come up to me when I'm at the beach and ask if I'm from Canada. I meet Canadians on vacation all the time. Just this weekend, we were at the beach and another Canuck came up and asked if we could take his picture. Its a large tattoo and not discreet at all.

what's a Canadian Beacon?

CanadaPatriotic Tattoo

I have 2 Fleur de Lis tattoos (born in Quebec) Fleur de Lis is everywhere here in New Orleans so that worked out well. The larger one I have on the back of my shoulder is tie-dye coloured. I wouldn't mind getting something similar in a Maple leaf shape. I'd either have to put it on my other shoulder or tramp stamp it.

sounds cool!
you should post a photo if you have one.

CanadaCriminal Check

Oh boy, thanks so much. I just called and was going to get the FULL version at $25/per copy. I read you need two. I have never had a criminal conviction..not even a speeding ticket in my life..:-) So I am good!
Thanks again VJ'rs!!!

Oh good!

For the timing, listen to people going through the CR1!
My answer was for a K1.
kizzaFemaleCanada2010-02-16 12:08:00
CanadaCriminal Check

At what point do you need the criminal background check completed? I just called and found out that they take up to 120 days. I am going to get it done right away, but I just wondered if you need it when you file your CR1, or at the visa interview?
Thanks

You need it for the interview.

If you haven't been convicted of any crime in Canada, you don't need the fingerprint check, only a name check.
You should be able to get results in 7 days.

I just got it done, about a week after getting my NOA2.

Canadaextending wife's stay while she's here in the states
I find the fact that she was given a B2 odd too. I believe B2s are usually valid for 6 months, but if I were you, I would verify how long it is valid for in her case, because here is what happened to me 2 years ago.

I entered the US, answered a couple of standard questions. I got a stamp (like you described) and the CO wrote some illegible scribble on it (I showed it to a CBP supervisor later and she couldnt decypher it either.).
Never paid attention to it. I presumed I was allowed to stay 6 months.

Turned out I was given a 1 month visa but never was told. I never got an I-94 either.

So since it is a little unusual to get a visa, I would double-check just in case.

Even if I don't personally know a lot of the posters, I do care about them also. Like if something were to happen to anyone I talked to on here, I would be upset. I am not going to deny that.

Yup. I keep in touch with one person on VJ who has showed me more support than anybody else IRL (It's not that my friends suck, they just cant relate all that much)

She actually just emailed me that she and her fiancé got approved in London and I felt relief. I was starting to worry.
I never participated in a forum before and never thought I would care so much about what happened to people Ive never even met!
