Yea I guess I had high expectations, again some people loved it, I just didn't.

yeah I was reading reviews and although some people thought it was wonderful, the majority seemed to think it was boring and Burton could have done much better.

meh... we'll see. I know I'll go see it anyway, cuz I've always loved Alice in Wonderland, and I like most of Burtons movies, but I'll do as you said and skip the Imax 3D.

CanadaLive in US, work in Canada?

I understand the USC's income would be considered foreign and not count toward the affadavit of support requirements

There is no such requirement. The USC can include any and all income and assets as long as they can prove they exist.
They would use copies of paychecks and a letter from the employer that the employment is expected to continue. All amounts should be converted to USD for form I-864.

The only time income has to be US based is if you are using form I-864EZ.

And it's been a while since I did cross border taxes, but I'm not sure this would even count as foreign income for tax purposes. Taxes are based on residence so this person would probably be filing a 1040 and reporting the income and getting credit for taxes paid to Canada. Hopefully someone who's more knowledgeable on this can correct or confirm this.

I know... it's all in my head. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain, so it's not waht bothers me... I start feeling faint as if they had taken 2 pints of blood, and I have passed out before from blood tests. sad.gif Even for vaccines, I end up making a huge fuss, get sweaty and anxious and have them give me the shot lying down. lol big baby.

Im glad the nurse who did it at your appointment was nice though. I heard someone who had her medical in TO say that when she mentionned she was afraid of needles, the nurse said something like "we're not here to make you feel more comfortable". B*tch.

I believe you need your TD booster shot every 5 years.

Tetanus is every 10 years.

I had to get mine redone as mine was almost at the 10year mark. It was free at my regular doctor.

Im confused about their requirements regarding the Tdap. I got my last tetanus shot (+ diphteria) in 2002, and it says good for 10 years next to it.

But in the list of vaccines required for immigration, it says if you havent had a booster in 2 years, you need the Tdap. If I need it, Id rather go see my regular doctor for it, but it should really still be good for 2+ years.

Has anybody figured that one out?

Also, did you have to show up at 6h30 in the morning, like they do at the woking clinic in Van, or did you have an actual appointment during the day?

no i had an appointement at 1pm smile.gif i showed up at 12;45 and pass right away

Great to hear!!
Im not a morning people and I faint if I have to give blood, so the idea of getting up at 5h30 to go get needles stuck in my arm is a freaking nightmare.

CanadaPhone Card - Canada to US
QUOTE (Kayla*Mathew @ Nov 28 2009, 09:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm not real sure about the phone card thing, but I do know that if you have AT&T for your home phone provider with unlimited long distance you can get unlimited Canada calling for $5.99 a month. I got that and Mathew has unlimited U.S calling through Bell so we pretty much talk until we're blue in the face.

On Mathews phone bills it actually shows him how much he saves by having that certain plan. One month that I looked at he had saved over $4,000.

Good thing for calling cards and phone companies with sweet calling plans. smile.gif

$4000!? It's outrageous they could charge that much!! blink.gif
But that sure is a lot of talking wink.gif

Im with Fido and their North-American long-distance plan is an extra $30/month, which is about what I spent in June on my phonecard, and I still have $3 on it. Often I'll call him and he'll just call right back using MagickJack. So the cost of phonecalls has really been minimal for the both of us. My issue is that we have no records of all our phonecalls. But with the suggestions I got, we'll have something to show if ever they ask for evidence at the interview. They might not ask for any of it, but it will just give me peace of mind in the mean time.

CanadaPhone Card - Canada to US
Thanks for your replies everyone!

I realise Im probably being paranoid about them asking for tons of proof, but I would be so upset if they did and I couldnt show anything with regards to our communications.

I need to get a new card or to recharge my current phonecard anyway, so I think I'll try Vox.ca or Pennytalk, especially since I feel my current supplier has been stringing me along promising me my records for weeks.

Im curious about Google Voice. Been reading about it in differents posts. I looked it up and it seems to only work for US phones though (?) and requires an invite. I asked for one anyway as it would be useful for Matt to call me and for me later on...
Skype unfortunately slowed down drastically both our computers... uninstalled it. We use some other webcam thing right now (Logitech Vid).

I'll do what you suggested Hugglebuggles, and get him to do print screen of some call logs online and cross-reference it with my incoming calls on my bills (just a one or two... wont go overboard -- just to have something to show). They'll realise Im neurotic, but hopefully wont deny me my visa because of it. wink.gif
We will have more proof anyway, since he is coming to spend the holidays here. Cannot wait!
And he has a few cards from me and we have written some emails I guess... But thanks for your answers, it reassures me!

CanadaPhone Card - Canada to US
Hi everyone,

Can anybody recommend a phone card that provides call records?

My SO and I don't have much proof of communication -- which is really frustrating since we spend hours talking to each other each day, whether on the phone or webcam. We can't get any records of it. We hardly email, and when we do, our emails are useless (mainly links).

I've been waiting for my phonecard supplier to send me my call records, but now I give up... Don't think it will happen. So I want to switch phonecards (my old one was gave me a great rate, but at this point, it doesnt really matter, I just want proof).

Otherwise, would anybody would have suggestions as to how to obtain the records from what we've been using so far?
Matt has been calling me though MagicJack. They won't supply call records although he can see the call log online. Could he take a picture of the screen or print screen?
When he calls me, it just says "incoming call" on my bill, with no details...

Thanks!

We have known one another since 1992. We dated for 2yrs back then, but being so young we chose to go our separate ways (as difficult as that was). We have since rekindled and wish to pursue a life together. We have prom pictures and letters/cards from back then. Our families know one another, etc. So there is definite history there.
I will be traveling in the new year to spend some time (holidays, as I have to work xmas and new years) with him and will be visiting his parents as a surprise while down there.

We have filled out the I-129F form and are preparing the rest of the packet to include what was covered in the checklist.

I do have a question however, I had seen somewhere on these forums a birth certificate inquiry. I was under the impression that only the USC was required to submit one. Do I have to provide a long form birth certificate if I am the one seeking entry to the US? Back in 78, according to my Mother (Father is deceased), one was not issued at the time of birth. Only a short form, which I currently have in my possession. Can someone please confirm if that is required on my behalf. If so, I hope to request that from the gov't.

2nd question, I presently reside 5hrs from the US Embassy in Calgary. Would that not be where I would go for my interview?

Thanks for the tidbits of advice. Much appreciated!

Your birth certificate will only be necessary at the consulate stage, not for submitting the petition. So you have plenty of time to get it.

The only two consulates processing K1s in Canada are Vancouver and Montreal, unfortunately.

Well, that was an interesting read.
That topic that got closed in the Introductions section of the forums.
Really... quite an interesting read.
The immaturity of people amazes me sometimes.

Quite amusing at the same time though.

Interesting indeed...

I was initially rather shocked by the brashness of a couple of posters, but the OP's reaction was so ridiculously over the top (and relentless) that I really can't feel an ounce of sympathy for her. If she'd made one or two tactful posts about how she is certain her fiance doesn't fall into the category of the others mentioned, it would have ended there. But she blew it out of proportion. What a train wreck...

I just went and read the entire thing. I was pretty taken aback...I wonder how long she'll last though... unsure.gif

I just read it too and wow. Her overreaction and defensiveness actually makes me think she is doubting something herself or has heard this before. If someone was to question the validity of my relationship in that manner I would have simply laughed it off, knowing its not true. If you know its not true than why let things like that bother you so much? I don't really know. But wow, I don't feel bad for her either, she obviously needs to learn some social skills.

Did anyone else see the pictures? Does something seem wrong with them to you too? I mean, he's... not to bad looking, I mean not to bad at all.

I thought the same thing. Her defensiveness made me think deep down she knew it might be true. I understand she is probably feeling emotional and vulnerable (she wouldnt be the only here) but her reaction was over the top. I read a little bit about the Mariages gris one poster was talking about. I hope she did too and will be able to see warning signs if there are any. But these guys seem to be really skilled con artists, who arent afraid to go very far to get what they want... baby and all. Hopefully she can step back, calm down and take into account what she was told.

and... yesh... he is pretty hot. whistling.gif

His whole wall is filled up with things about how he is "waiting for the first person to even look at him wrong so he can tear them open and let them bleed to death while he stands watching" and other disgusting violent ideas.
I wish I could recall some of the things on there, but he literally posts long "threats" like this everyday, and I'm beginning to wonder if I should say something. I noticed that his girlfriend broke up with him recently, so I'm betting that has something to do with it.
I'm starting to worry that if someone doesn't say something soon that he is going to explode and do something he'll regret, but I'm not even sure how seriously authorities in Canada would take Facebook posts.
/sigh I hate drama.

Call me a coward but I wouldnt say anything to him if he can track you down. He sounds crazy.
It sure sounds like a desperate cry for attention though....

Oh heck no...I wasn't going to say anything to him about it lol. I was thinking more along the lines of reporting it to authorities, but I doubt I will even do that, as I'm not too sure how seriously the RCMP would take facebook mumblings.

I think you'd be surprised! My little sister had some issues with this a few years back. She was 12 years old at the time, and a "friend" and her were talking about a girl from school they didn't like, and I guess in passing my sister said something she shouldn't have about wanting to kick the girl, or smack her, or something stupid kids say when they're angry. Well long story short, my sisters "friend" and her got in a fight, she showed the girl they were talking about a transcript of the convo, the girls mom read it and called the cops, and they came down to the school and were going to arrest my sister. She shouldn't have said it, no, but she was a kid and didn't realize it could come back around. She had never really been in trouble her whole life, straight A's, the whole bit. In the end cooler heads prevailed and they let her off with a warning, but it goes to show you how things you put out on the internet can come back and haunt you! I know its a different situation, but I was really surprised by the cops willingness to take action.

Wow Hugglebuggles, I am surprised! Kids stay stupid stuff like that all the time. That will freak a kid out for while!

As per the crazy FB poster, it would be a shame if he were to act on it and you felt you could have done something and didn't. I wouldn't have thought authorities would have done much about it either, but I guess in light of other comments, it is worth a try.

I agree...I've done some hard thinking about it the last couple hours, and think it's about time someone said something. I would hate to have something like that on my conscience if anything were to come of it.

Hmph....the RCMP pretty much just laughed me off the phone. They recommended reporting him to facebook (yeah, ok...what are they going to do, e-slap him?.)
If his ex-g/f winds up dead I can't say I didn't try.

sad.gif that's too bad. Yeah, at least you tried.
Will you report him to facebook?? I can't see what they would do either...

I can't imagine anything nicer than to spend a few days in seclusion with my wife, surrounded by nature, curled up in front of a wood-burning stove and watching movies. Purr.

God.... That does sound perfect.

The only obstacle will be getting there. The Coquihalla Highway can get pretty nasty in winter, as I've learned first-hand.

The way I look at it though, there's a very good chance that I'll be driving through several snowy mountain passes on my cross-continent trek to D.C. upon visa approval, so this trip through the mountains in winter conditions should be good practice.

Eeerh.. Yes, driving through snowy passes can be really stressful. A far cry from the leisurely Sunday drives!
Be sure to have good winter tires, and take your time.

Speaking of Facebook...I have this friend on there (when I say friend, I mean I "knew of him" in high school, and he kept asking me out, but I always said no because he scared me... that kind of friend,) who has been posting some really creepy stuff lately.

Yea it's hilarious. They'll be back together in no time.

They're a messed up couple. They make out at family functions... it's totally gross.

Ugh. My best friend's cousin and her boyfriend (adults in their thirties) got kicked out of their bank manager's office for making out. The guy got totally grossed out and told them to get out... and they're not taking this as a hint that maybe the rest of the world finds them disgusting too.

So, I'm selling my Futurama DVDs. I have volume 1-4. I posted a FB status update about it, and told people to name their own (reasonable) price. So of course I get a reply from someone saying they want them, but don't know what a reasonable price would be, and don't even give a wager.
#######?!
So now I have to find something that won't rip me off, but at the same time won't make them uninterested.

I was thinking $40. Each volume retails for about $20-30, so that's 1/2 price (in fact a little less). I think it seems fair. What do you guys think? Would you pay $40 for that? Or should I ask for more? less?

Id say $50 for the 4 seasons is fair.
